This is a really great book written from the perspective of a responsible progressive. Published in 1949, it carries the Constitutional History of the United States up to the beginnings of the 20th Century. It deals with the fundamental issues and conflicts of the American Ideal and Constitutional Government. We grapple with the same issues today and always will as long as people of good will seek to govern themselves. I highly recommend this book.
