A broken child becomes a broken adult.

Ajayan is a mirror of how the lack of motherly love and care can lead to tragic consequences in later adult life.

Despite being adopted by a welcoming Doctor Uncle who found him abandoned at the hospital, Ajayan could not build a peaceful life for himself. Even a welcoming foster brother could not make him feel at home. Loneliness and inner turmoil ruled his inner being.

Proof that there is no substitute for mother’s love. And the lack of it muddles the grown-up adult’s perspectives about family relationships and sexual desires.

I have been wanting to watch the movie for such a long time. This book found me unexpectedly and pulled me in. The scene by scene progression made me feel like i was watching the movie as much as I was reading the book.

As I turned the last page, I understand why this movie has remained one that is often mentioned and discussed widely, even after three decades of its release.
