What might have been... Cute librarian Tim finds himself long overdue for a boyfriend. He hasn't even had a date in almost a year. Which explains why he can't keep his eyes off the handsome construction worker renovating the library!
Sporting bulging biceps and tight jeans, macho Karl seems as straight as the steel beams he carries by the circulation desk. Still, the blue collar stud's killer smile melts the librarian's heart.
A déjà vu moment leads the two young men to discover the past has a way of catching up with you. Will fate, and their own choices, deny them the chance to find out what might have been?
Checking Him Out is a short, standalone gay romance with explicit scenes and an HEA ending.
Devyn Morgan is a contemporary man with a love of contemporary romance! He grew up in several different states due to his parents' careers, which instilled in him a love of travel and seeing new places. After finishing college, he traveled around the globe for two years in search of romance, experiences, and adventures. In that time, he came up with more story ideas than he could ever use, so he started to write gay fiction.
He currently lives in the eastern US with his partner and a dog, but he still considers himself a free spirit.
Can you spell cheese? No, can you put a capital C! But it's fun, light hearted, super sweet cheese and a great book to read if you have an hour to spare. This is a lovely little story.
Do not listen to the audio version it is horrible. He literally reads the book, Google could do the same maybe even better job. Now the book; It is readable coming across as being written by a beginning writer. The book hits left and right sometimes, by shear luck, the praferable nail on the head. The book is unrealistic trying to be realistic. A lot of filler words trying to describe situations and paint a picture. Not really doing it for me.
3.5 stars. QUICK read. Story started out cute, but as soon as they got into the relationship it became a little boring to me. It passed the time, but I probably won't be reaching for it again.
The book starts ok. At least at first Tim is kinda fun and as a book-aholic I always like fellow bibliophiles. But then shortly after talking for the first time (or as it turns out second time since they had one non-conversation 6 years earlier when they were both in college but didn't know each other and we're both closeted) Tim freaks out and refuses to go on a date because Tim eavesdropped on a conversation and discovered Karl's friends were jerks 6 years earlier. Then apparently a grand gesture apology is all he needs because suddenly Tim is so happy he's crying and they are both in love and want to spend forever together. Because they both somehow know this after 3 brief conversation 2 of which Karl spent most of the time apologizing.
Then it was like the author just decided she was done telling the story because it skips their first date and jumps to that evening and a relatively boring sex scene where they aren't using a condom (lost a star just for that) because first dates with someone you just met is a great time to go bareback.
Then it skips to their 6 month anniversary (not a real thing because it isn't impressive enough to celebrate) where they have been living together for a while already (what are they suddenly a lesbian stereotype? But fine) but then one of them says 'I love you' to which the response is clearly lets get married.

A second chance… Filled with playful and flirty banter, this was such a fun read that I found myself blinking at my tablet when I was done, surprised that any time had passed at all. The sparks between Tim and Karl are almost snuffed before they get a chance to ignite when Tim recognizes Karl from an incident years earlier, and I loved the gestures Karl made to prove how far he’s come in the years that have passed. I found myself snickering at Karl’s bluntness, he’s a little rough around the edges, but that’s exactly why I thought he was such a great balance for Tim’s slightly more reserved manner. This is a feel-good book that was a great way to decompress after a long day when I was looking for something quick, sexy and light-weight. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Basically a 3 star novella, but I had to add a star for purely personal reasons. There was a MM fan/librarian named Carrie in the story so I was basically a character in it.
