My name is Mac Brennan and if you haven’t guessed, I got myself trapped in Hell because I couldn’t bring myself to kill my Ex. It was a split second decision that left me trapped in Mammon’s domain with no way out. Now, if I want to get out of Hell alive, I’ll have to rely on the girl who shot me and left me for dead. Twice. Not the best odds, sure, but I’ve had it worse. Unfortunately, the Prince of Greed still wants her dead, and let’s just say that isn’t an ironic title because of his selfless nature. No, what Mammon wants, Mammon gets. Usually. My name is Mac Brennan, and it’s time to give ‘em Hell.
When New York Times Bestselling author, J. A. Cipriano was in second grade, his teacher gave everyone in class a journal to write down whatever they wanted. Their first subject was to write about something they didn’t like. J. A. chose to write about why he didn’t like writing. His reasoning was simple. He had bad handwriting. Even then, he was destined to be an engineer due to his messy scrawl.
Unfortunately, he found through the course of this little adventure that he actually liked writing. That year was sort of the high point for his writing career because he won a writing contest for the state. He got to go to a big dinner and his teacher was all dressed up.
He kept writing little stories, year after year, and in sixth grade, won another contest. In seventh grade, he broke his arm and got the cast signed by both Dean Koontz and Stan Lee. It is, by far, the coolest cast he’s owned. That was about the time he found video games and anime. His writing turned mostly toward fanfiction until about ninth grade when he wrote his first novel, a small book about twenty thousand words called Revelations. In sophomore year, he wrote two more books to complete the trilogy because he saw Star Wars that year and learned trilogies were the cool thing to do.
He rewrote Revelations during his senior year, and his wife swears it is the best thing he’s written. J.A. is not so sure. Every time he reads it, he cringes, but then again, he hates everything he writes, so there is that.
It was about that time, he got heavily involved in a fanfiction writing group, but that isn’t one hundred percent accurate. It was a world based on a popular anime but everything was created especially for this world. It made it so that every story someone wrote was unique.
Imagine writing a Star Wars novel set 1,000 years after A New Hope, where everything that happened was a distant memory and you get the idea. You have the force, some distant memories of the past, and that’s pretty much it.
He wrote about a million words (863K to be exact) for them before he decided to do his own thing. He wrote another novel. He put it in a drawer. He wrote another one that eventually became the basis for The Hatter is Mad. His next novel was Kill It With Magic, his first real novel. It’s not bad, but it’s bumpy. This is unfortunate because the books get loads better as the series progresses.
Since then, he’s written six more novels, four of which are in the Lillim Callina Series, and one in the Abby Banks series. The other is stuck in a drawer for time undetermined. He’s writing his next book now which is about werewolves fighting mummies in Ancient Egypt. After that, he will move onto Abby Banks 2. The Spy Within will come out in June or July.
J.A. also has three chinchillas. Two of them are grey, and because of this, they are named Slate and Cadmium. The third is named Jet because he’s black, and Jet is old English for black. See, creative. He also has a cat named Turtle. This does pose problems for his two-year-old from time to time.
Hellbound (The Thrice Cursed Mage #6) by J.A. Cipriano is a thrilling ride through hell and back with some shady characters you will grow to love. Mac wants out but doesn't want to kill his ex-girlfriend like his contract demands so he takes her with him. Along the way, they get into so much trouble and meet the most evil creatures, battle the most strange, travel to the unknown, pick up a helper (they could use the help no matter how shady), and try to find the way out of hell. Good luck! Going back on a contract doesn't sit well, and they make even more enemies along the way, that's what happens when you try to kill them. (In self defense but they don't care) It is a great plot, lots of action and fun, and amusing characters along the way. Loved it! Thanks for letting me read it.
I waited to post the review until I finished this one because I couldn't wait between books long enough to write them. This series would only be better by being one long novel. Can't wait for the next installment.
Wow! I didn't expect that! Mac ends up going to hell and fighting his way back out to save his friend Jenna. He makes some interesting friends along the way. Anything more than that would be a spoiler.
As all of the books in this series, the sixth one started off with a bang exactly where it ended in the previous one. Mac is still up to his eyeballs getting himself into deals and trouble right and left. The action is still non-stop to the point you can’t catch your breath, and the writing is still superb. I just wish a little tiny bit that we could get a little bit less action sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, it’s really fun and a great read, I’d just like to stop and take a look around once in a while. But, to be fair, the books are always a great read. The cliffhanger in this book is a killer; so much so, I’m curious to see where we are headed. How will Mac get himself out of this one!?! Highly recommend!
Thanks to the author for the e-copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
I felt a tiny bit silly when I realized I was smiling after finishing the last line of dialogue in this very satisfying read. So please, enjoy its non-stop action and witty dialogue yet, don't be surprised when the ending brings a smile to your face with a bit of warmth to your soul. Savor this one.

Oh my freaking goodness! Indiana Jones has nothing on Mac Brennan. You are swept away in a tidal wave of action and magic. I highly recommend this series to any lovers of this genre. I voluntarily read a free copy and this is my honest review.
Interesting twist on a concept of Hell. While I have found the series entertaining, there's a part of me that finds it disturbing that we can make hell and Lucifer something to joke about!
