Engaged? Soon-to-Be Engaged? Or Just Thinking about Building a Healthy, Vibrant, Godly Life Together as Husband and Wife? . . . Marriage is not for the faint of heart. Men, look at Ephesians 5:28: “So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself.” Men, are you ready to make a commitment such as this? Ladies, are you ready to hop on his train? Consider Ephesians 5:22: “Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.” How are you both going to work out that verse as a couple? Anyone fighting yet? From Me to We is a transparent, surprisingly honest, and widely informative guide that will inspire readers to safeguard their marriage by tackling tough questions and issues before they say, “I do.” Lucille Williams, pastor's wife and trained Prepare/Enrich Marriage Facilitator, offers straight-talk about marriage with unprecedented insight as well as challenges and discussion questions—a must-have tool for premarital counseling. This compelling, entertaining, and insightful guide covers topics including the all-important question of Why are you getting married? as well as forgiveness, communication, expectations for marriage, baggage, sex, and money—all from a biblical perspective.
I couldn't handle the anti-feminist views and ideas. I was angry and offended while reading the book. However, the discussion questions at the end of the chapters were good and I plan to use them.
This book has some really great messages that any couple can take value in, but some are a bit redundant, and some are from the 1950’s and not applicable to the average couple. If you can read between the lines and pull from what will work for you, it will work. But constantly reading that women stay home, bake, and are home when their husbands get home….come on. Give us lessons on what to do when we are out earning our husbands also. We are a very traditional family and even I felt a bit slighted at times, so I can see where this won’t resonate well for a lot of todays families
From Me to We is a biblical pre-martial guide for couples. She said several times that a fairy tale marriage is achievable if you have Christ as a focal point in the marriage. She includes topics of: defusing arguments, sex, dating your spouse, finances, and communication. I love she shares he honeymoon story as well as other couple she encountered. Definitely love how she states you need to take of Me so you can help We. Great book for those who think they maybe ready for marriage, engaged, or couples who have grown apart.
This is a great book for couples who are getting married or recently married. It's all about God's design for marriage and how not to be selfish! I highly recommend it; in fact, I am giving it to my son and future daughter-in-law to read together! Lucille also has an excellent website LuSays.com . She has another book out this year called The Intimacy You Crave. I'll be reading that one also.
Not a big fan. A lot of gender stereotypes and awkward fantasy language, especially in addressing intimacy. She kinda comes off like that awkward aunt who wants you to come to her with sex/marriage questions but just makes it worse......do not recommend.
I would recommend this book if you are a newly devoted Christian couple who strives to be married in the future. "From Me to We" presents a digestible way of understanding how two individuals with differing backgrounds, familial upbringing, daily habits (amongst other things) can learn to become a united front. Tackling the world together rather than alone.
It is never easy bringing two lives together as one. There will be disagreements, misunderstandings, miscommunication, but there also has to be compromise, gentleness, and active listening on both parts. Though some may think that the suggested rules and guidelines in this book are "dated" it actually gives you a good understanding of how God intends marriage to be.
If you decide to read this book, I would love got hear your thoughts. Give me a reply when you do.
I bought this book for my boyfriend and I to read through together and it even taught us both alot about it each other and encouraged great conversation and discussions among us. Highly recommend!
