At the end of the last book Raja had been reunited with her family, but then Prudell’s enemy forces had attacked, costing the rebels many of their number. Malcolm, the head of the Highland rebels, leads a small party across enemy lines to rescue anyone they can. But they find their missing men changed, augmented by cyber-limbs (reminding me more than a little of the female henchman with the blades for legs in the Kingsman: The Secret Service movie) and brainwashed to fight for Prudell as part of her Reborn legion. Raja’s father gets captured in the process. Stranded behind enemy lines, they seek a way to unravel the brainwashing, and rescue Raja’s father, and perhaps make a strike at Prudell as well.

For a second book in a trilogy, this held the attention, and came to a satisfying conclusion while still having plenty of threads left to complete. I missed Stirling from this book (the few scenes that did feature him, he felt remote). Raja still impresses me. She’s strong, and tough, and scrappy and we also gained some more interesting characters this time around. I do love that this series loves to feature diversity. It makes such a change from bland casting in most of the other books I’ve picked up. I also liked that we got to see more of the cities, and actually meet some of the residents of those cities rather than focusing solely on the rebels and fighting enemy forces. Prudell still remains a moustache-twirling villain, in the spirit of Donald Sutherland’s dictator in Hunger Games, rather than gaining a rounded human personality (there were other bits and pieces that reminded me of the Hunger Games: Mocking Jay like the city and the brainwashing). There are plenty of fighting action scenes as well as scenes where Raja gets to show off her emotions, as well as plenty of surprises. I look forward to seeing how this wonderful series concludes.

One of the best dystopian series I have ever read! After being completely gripped with the first book, I was racing to read this sequel to find out what would happen next! This book was possibly even better than the first! Again, the author's worldbuilding was just spectacular and so thorough and well though out that it was completely believable. After losing her love after finally finding it, Raja is completely heartbroken, and being reunited with her family does little to assuage it. She puts on a strong front and puts all her effort into being the rebels "Bullet Girl" , a figurehead for fighting against the corrupt system. Faced with dangerous missions and all new heartache, she embarks on a journey to infiltrate the System at the core and bring it to it's knees before the rebels. Treachery and deceit follows her group and they must figure out who the spy may be that's giving away their every move, and try to fix Stirling after he suffers incredible mutations and brainwashing from the government. I was left sitting on the edge of my seat so many times in this book and was completely enraptured by every word! This was a completely awesome book and I am really loving this series! I fully recommend to anybody and everybody, even if dystopian isn't really your thing!

Another amazing book from this author. Although it wasn't quite as gripping as the first book in the series, it definitely held my interest and made for a great and suspenseful tale. Lots of unexpected surprises with even more to come.

Racing through to find out what happens - always the sign of a good story well plotted with well drawn characters. It is a great example of its genre
