They say love is blind.

They’re right.

****

It’s been two long years since Maddox Paul walked out of the office and out of Cassidy Moore’s life. Since then she’s been languishing under a boss from hell and untangling herself from an unrequited crush on her old boss.

But now he’s back, and so are all the old feelings and insecurities she thought she’d let go of. It doesn’t help that Maddox is utterly clueless and confusing things by crossing boundaries he doesn’t even know exist.

How does girl move on when the only one she can think about is right there all the time?

****
Maddox isn’t as oblivious to how Cass feels about him as she thinks, but he knows she’s good at compartmentalizing those feelings. From day one, they’d had a special connection, and he doesn’t know what he would’ve done without her all these years.

It’s more than a work relationship. She’s his rock. He loves her, just not in that way…

Right?

Wanted to give it 4 stars but I couldn't bring myself to it. Like other reviews mentioned I felt the amount of "enemies" took away from the relationship development in a bad way. One minute you'd see improvement, then the next few pages and they're back to fighting. The ending skipping past one of the actual problems in the relationship was also confusing. Maybe the author had a page limit or didn't know how exactly they wanted to show the problem being addressed but I got the impression there was a temporary break up period of some sort followed by sudden forgiveness. Imo that's not really a fix but to each their own.

It would've been nice if the MCs cut each other a break at times and acknowledged that they are both new to the kind of relationship they we're developing into and weren't so quick to shut one another out over and over and over. People do have feelings and sometimes it was aggravating for me seeing them take one anothers words so.. personally? It was as if he would say something and she'd jump to the instant worst conclusion rather than ask why do you feel this way? And it would happen vice versa. Maybe that was also intentional to add angst. Made the characters seem too hot headed to me and sometimes made me want to stop reading.

What I really did like though was how open both characters were with their feelings and what thoughts they were having. Their moments of sharing with one another seemed like a foundation for a really healthy and happy relationship. The mental state of the MCs as individuals I felt was relatable and as I battle my own anxieties I felt certain parts of Cass were relatable and other parts just weren't explained. Felt like I was missing some backstory as to why she was the way she was. It seemed like it was supposed to just be accepted especially with Lo pushing the subject. I felt at times Lo was a good and bad friend. One minute she's insisting Cass get over him, then staying with him to work things out, then being overprotective friend and going off on him etc. She seemed a bit overbearing at times to me but she was a great supporting character. I'd read a book about her and would still try more books by this author.

Overall I think it was a good read, and encourage any one curious enough to give it a try before dismissing it. I didn't expect this one to be as complex as it turned out to be but it was refreshing having two characters that really cared deeply for one another thay didn't stem from insta-love or sudden lust.

I loved this book and would definitely recommend it to all readers! Cass and Maddox have such a wonderful story. I wanted to so badly give this book 5 stars but I just couldn't do it. I had issues revolving around Cass's anxiety and the reasons behind it. I felt it was never fully addressed and I had a hard time understanding why she had this anxiety. My other complaint was the end...there was a big build up and then the moment of truth and then we skipped ahead and never really got to hear that conversation. Although the issues were resolved, I felt cheated out of that conversation. These minor issues hardly took away from such a beautiful story. The author did an amazing job on character development and was really able to convey the feelings and insecurities of each character while flawlessly transitioning between multiple points of view. I can't wait to read more by this author!

Ever had that best friend that you didn’t dare take the risk to find out if there could be the most amazing love story around. Well that’s this book, Maddox and Cassidy met at work, there was an instant friendship. Cassidy encouraged Maddox to pursue his dream, working his way up the ladder. While he was gone for the two years, Cassidy and Maddox kept in touch but it wasn’t the same. Maybe a bit of a case of the hearts grow fonder from a distance.

Now Maddox is back and the intensity has increased. This is a beautiful love story that has you wondering how it’s all going to turn out. The tension is palpable and just adds to the drama of this story. The strong personalities only adds to the complexity and enjoyment. My only downfall to the story was that the end seemed to fast forward instead of giving you the insight to how the problem was solved. It left me feeling as if one of two things had happened, the book was getting too long and it got cut, or it was too hard and after what was a fairly emotional book, it was too much to take on. Either way it left me feeling cheated.

Just the same, it’s the first book I’ve read by this author and I look forward to reading more.

I did enjoy this. But, I felt like there was too many "bad" guys in this. We have his ex wife, Phil, the girl he almost it slept with. It was kinda unneeded. If there had only been one, say her boss we could have gotten deeper with the story and characters. We never really got a whole lot on Lo or anything or the guy she tried to set cass up with. I really think if there was only one "bad" guy and more depth it would have been a better story.
