I received this book from the author for an honest review.
OH I love 2nd chance romance stories but I got tell ya, I loved the mystery plot of the story even more.
So our story starts with Dani and Ren both denying what the other feels for them. They have friend zoned the other and when someone tells a lie, Dani runs. She runs far away. Ren is devastated and tries to move on with is life.
10 years later, Dani is in the hospital with her best friend when in walks DOCTOR REN …WOOOO BABY!! The two pick up right where they left off. Him perusing her because he will not let his heart go. Her freaking out because she has loved Ren her entire life but the lie is still in the way.
So while you have Ren and Dani dealing and figuring stuff out is when the mystery starts. Dani is an attorney in town. Her client asks her to investigate another mystery local man. Dani is blindsided with what she learns and has to rethink everything she has known to be true.
As much as I love a good 2nd chance romance, the mystery plot kept me engaged. I loved where Dawn took me as a reader. I am really looking forward to book 2 because I was wondering how Matt is dealing with everything that has happened and is he is going to keep pushing Claire away.
Intricate Plots and Sympathetic Characters, But...
I've been reading this author for years, but I never realized she wrote contemporary romantic suspense. Until this book, I'd only been familiar with her Regency romances. This story had excellent bones, with intricate subplots and sympathetic characters … and a surprising complexity and interweaving when all was finally revealed near the end of the book. There were so many exciting potentials once all the storylines merged that I wished the book went on longer so they could be explored. I stated the book has good bones, but unfortunately, the execution wasn't always good. Especially at the beginning, the author told more than showed, except for a pivotal scene that changed the direction of three people's lives. Also, the story about the heroine's true lineage didn't quite get enough play early in the story to make what happens later make sense within the context of the entire story; it felt like it came out of nowhere—though it was still emotional, making more than one tear come to my eye. The heroine is a bit flighty, and she tends to want to run away rather than remotely confront anything that may be difficult. That certainly got annoying after a bit. I also think that, at the end, while it might be a nice thing to do, how everybody seems to forgive pretty major transgressions didn't seem quite realistic, especially the hero’s ex--she was quite the number … and pretty horrible to everyone throughout the book! The book was actually well written when the author showed what was happening instead of simply telling the reader. I simply wish she had done so more often! I'm intrigued to see what happens in the rest of the series, though.
One minor annoyance. I am an RN in the United States, and how much of the medical aspect of this book was portrayed is wildly inaccurate. The bulk of the book takes place ten years after the first pivotal scene at the end of high school. The author mentioned at one point that this story takes place in the United States. I don't know how it goes in the rest of the English-speaking world, but for a person to go through college, med school, residency, and specialty training—and the hero is a surgeon—it would have taken way more than 10 years of education to complete. Also, too, the two primary surgeons seem to do every type of surgery, which just doesn't happen. Even surgeons specialize for the most part; a surgeon who would do general surgery would not do more delicate neurological surgery. I also thought it was funny that the doctor supposedly did not know how to pronounce NICU. The narrator spelled out the acronym; in the hospital, we pronounce it like “Nick-you.” Surgeons don't typically, too, follow their patients in the hospital as closely as the hero did. I rarely see the medical profession, nursing, hospitals, etc., portrayed as they really are, so this is a minor annoyance … but one just the same.
I received a promo code for this audiobook, but that did not affect my review.
This is my 1st read and review for this author and what a great start in getting to know her stories, this story is about second chances. Dani was in the foster system she grew up with Ren he was her best friend and Dani loved him but he had a girlfriend who chased her away, but Ren loved Dani too and before he had a chance to tell her she left and it broke his heart but he had to move on with his life. Circumstances arrive and the both of them are thrown together again but will Ren be able to tell her how he feels after all this time or will Dani run again?. This is all I’m going to give you guys but there is so much more to this story it will keep you reading right up until the end, a great read and I will be keeping my eyes out for more from this author. I highly recommend this book especially if you love second chance romances.
Long time friends who have secretly loved one another was driven apart by a jealous girlfriend. A decade later they get their second chance to reconnect and act on their feelings. Cute story and adorable couple. I'm a fan of Dani and Ren. Ren went through his own family issues and became available just in time to run into Dani again to rekindle their friendship. Dani feels she's damaged from being in the foster system. She finds out who her family is, where she came from, and how it happened. Pretty good story. I thought both were a bit dense as teenagers and just the same when they met again about their feelings. Glad they finally came around to acting on their love!
A great emotional storyline with romance, humour deceit, heartbreak, action and danger. Sometimes it is best to be open about your feelings. As best friend they should be able to talk about how they truly feel, then decide if they want to act on it. Not saying anything caused so much unnecessary pain. Which in the case with Rendall and Daniella. Getting a second chance after ten years came with new and old drama and insecurities. Love the unexpected twist and turns, it makes the story intriguing and entertaining. A fantastic second chance romance Looking forward to reading more of the series.
Dani and Ren were best friends growing up. When his now ex-wife lies and drives a wedge between them Dani runs and he doesn’t see her again for 10 years until her law partner is brought into this hospital. Dani grew up in foster care believing that her parents abandoned her. She discovers the truth, that she was kidnapped and supposed to be killed for financial gain. Will she find her way back to Ren and admit she’s always loved him before she pays with her life? There was plenty of drama and romance in this second chance story.
Dani and Ren have loved each other for as long as they can remember. Unfortunately, neither got a chance to tell the other. Due to the events that happened in high school, Dani disappeared and never said goodbye to Ren. Ren was just as heartbroken as she was. Fate brings them back together again and this time Ren will not make the same mistake. He will do anything he can to keep her by his side. I loved this story and definitely look forward to reading Matt's story.

Daniella (Dani) Brosen and Rendell (Ren) Sousa were childhood friends and each of them wanting the other, but too scared to admit it out loud. Fate jumps in and Dani leaves without a word, breaking both of their hearts. Fast forward ten years and fate jumps in again and tosses them back together.
I liked watching the reunion between Dani and Ren slowly take place. They each had their walls up and needed time to slowly tear them down. A little bit of drama and a small twist to keep you invested in their story.
Dani and Ren had been best friends growing up and had wanted to become more but was afraid to tell the other. But when something happens she ends up running and he’s left confused and hurt. Ten years later they run into each other again and talk and start to reconnect but she has issues from her past that has her at times afraid to commit. But things happen that will help her. I've read a lot of books written by Dawn Brower; she is one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books.
This is the first book in the Heart’s Intent Series; Dani & Ren were best friends growing up; she was an orphan and didn’t trust anyone except him but when she just up and took off he was heart broken. Now ten years later tragedy strikes her business partner and throws them back together. All the old feelings are still there.

This is a well written second chance romance between Dani and Ren who were best friends who were afraid to admit they loved each other. Fast forward ten years and they meet again. The author does a great job bringing strong characters and creating an intriguing story filled with drama and romance. It's a short story that moves quickly and smoothly and I enjoyed reading.
I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
I really enjoyed Dani and Ren's story. Second chances and friends to lovers are two of my favorite tropes. Lies and not communicating really did a number on their lives, but Ren fought for their second chance. The story had some suspense I wasn't expected, but it made the plot more interesting. The narrator did an excellent job bring the story to life. She did great distinguishing between the characters. Overall, this was a really good listen. Can't wait to continue the series.
Great second chance read. It kept your interest and was fast paced, smooth read. The characters and the storyline are wonderful. Dani had walls to protect herself due to a bad childhood. Ren her best friend lost her once he won't do it again. Will she let her walls down for him and find her hea? It is worth the read. I received it from booksprout and voluntarily left my review.

A second chance romance with a nice story line and plot. It is well written and has well described characters who develops well through the story. It is fast paced and easy to read. Story of a nice length. About taking chances and letting your feelings out. Tear down your walls around the heart. Recommendable read.
Dani and Ren were best friends for years and loved each other for just as long but they never admitted their feelings. Ten years later, they see each other again and the sparks are still there. This is a second chance love story between two people who finally get their happily ever after. The writing is good and the story is packed with drama, secrets, lies, romance, and a sweet ending.

This is an extremely entertaining story! I loved the characters and the story-line. This is a delightful second chance romance. I love Dani and Ren's story. This is a touching and emotional story but was a wonderful story.
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.*
This book was so emotional. I enjoyed reading the story about Dani and Ren. I cannot imagine what she must have gone through when she found out the truth. I cannot believe that he didn't know what his wife had done. Such a great story.
A fun and intriguing story as Dani and Ren have a second chance at love after past mistakes, lies, drama and many twists and turns. There is still plenty of hot chemistry between them. I enjoyed this tale.

Sharp characters. Fully detailed roles. Good word usage. Fast paced.
Enjoyed the action between people. Very believable. Would like more adventures with these people. Perhaps their lives with their children or in New situations.
Dani and Ren The storyline was easy to follow and the characters are delightful, and story flowed well. They must heal the wounds of the past to create a future brighter than either had ever imagined.
This wasn't a bad book per se, but.... it wasn't that good either. I listened to it on audiobook and the narrator irritated me terribly. All the giggling was awkward as heck. Not sure if i'd ever revisit this book, but it wasn't terrible.
