I hate writing reviews like this just in case the author reads this, but this story was both a bummer and boring. Boring hero. Boring heroine.

The H and h meet at her first ball. She's the protected virginal Greek princess (not really) of an IT tycoon. The H is another IT tycoon in want of vengeance against the dad. No, the H doesn't knowingly seduce the h, but they have a sexual encounter that is exposed to devious dad very quickly after the fact. Wow, that had to be embarrassing.

The H is whisked away and beaten up although he's already a tycoon, shocking I know, and the h is whisked away and shamed. She ends up pregnant per the title. She tries to talk to the H, but he's pretty darn angry so she ends up in a MOC with daddy's dull right hand man.

Ten years later and Daddy and her husband are both dead. The H's revenge play is circling in. Honestly, what is the fun in a revenge plot if your target is dead? The H wants to destroy the company as the h's father stole his computer plans years ago and had him shut out of the industry.

Once the H finds out about his son, he puts the moves on the h. Nothing too over the top. They realize that they still have a connection, but it's zzzzzzz.

I think my issue is how old school the h's father is about the heroine's virginity being such a commodity. She knows she's going into an arranged marriage which makes the H look awfully good. I hate, really hate, to inject reality into a Harlequin, but couldn't she at least tried to get a job? The dad is more distant than cruel to her so it's not like she's some poor little dweeb. Well, I guess she is some poor little dweeb, but it's by nature rather than nurture. She floats along in a loveless marriage for ten years and doesn't really do anything.

Anyway, no snap or sass connection for the MC's. Tell rather than show their passion. Having the son be autistic was a nice touch in a way, but it dragged down the story. Harlequins being as short as they are do short shrift to a child with disabilities when it is just a side story.

Well I wasn’t plunged into existential despair – a hazard I’ve come to expect from this author – but the heroine did get a raw deal out of her one night of rebellion with the smitten-then-revenge-filled hero.

She passively endured ten years of a loveless marriage to a man who was indifferent to her autistic child. Then she was under threat of bankruptcy from the hero who had a beef with her father, not the heroine. She should have told him about her pregnancy. But that was her only sin, really.

Hero wasted all that time on revenge and then realizes he’s gained no satisfaction from it.

I take it back, this story was dark and depressing. I should have known better.

Good romance. It was a good premise and it did hold my interest but it lacked intensity.

This romance began like a fantasy but slowly derailed into a swirl of boredom.

My issues-

This was a hookup story that never quite made it to a believable romance.
The heroine...she hooked up with the hero. Didn't tell him she was pregnant and believed every negative thing her father said about him. Strike strike strike against her. She let others manipulate her. And not telling the hero he has a child had me not liking her.
The hero didn’t tell the why behind his revenge for far too long. He was a pansy.
The romance was bland. I didn't feel a connection between the two.
The son's issues felt tacked on to add drama.

Basically this is a story about two strangers who didn't really build a believable romance. Shame that because I liked the escapism of the beginning.

Kate Hewitt writes drama and angst well. In Demetriou Demands His Child, vibrant dialogue and intense scenes bring to life a cast of strong, well-developed characters. The secrets and lies of these characters explode on the pages once the truth gets out, giving this well-written book panache. Iolanthe Petrakis had been sheltered from the world most of her life. However, on the night of the ball held by her father, all that changes. Sparks fly between her and Demetriou. They share a passionate night in each other’s arms but Demetriou sends Iolanthe away when he finds out her father is his enemy. Fast forward ten years and things aren’t going well for Iolanthe and the family’s company. She is forced to seek out Demetriou for help but once the truth she carries come to light, Demetriou must now make the decision of his life!

Say it isn't so! Did Kate Hewitt really write this book? Savings grace was that I didn't have to pay for it. Free read online at epub.pub. I'm not even sure I can describe what was wrong with it - disjointed lead characters, perhaps? Not enough character depth? IMO, this is the worst book written by this author.

The story takes place in two parts. Part one, young innocent Iolanthe attends her first ball and meets our hero, Alekos - aka - bitter enemy of Iolanthe's father. Alas, Iolanthe's father is arranging her marriage to one of his employees so they only have one night together.

Part two, ten years later following the passing of her husband and father. Iolanthe discovers that her husband squandered nearly all of her son's inheritance except a 40% share in the family company. She approaches Alekos, hoping that he will change his mind when he finds out that Niko is his child. Niko, her son who appears to have Aspergers, there was lots of skipping around this. Every time the hero asked what was wrong with Niko, she kept skipping around the answer. Perhaps Kate Hewitt was subconsciously empathising with Iolanthe who didn't seem to like labels on her child? Unfortunately Alekos, still eaten up over hatred for Iolanthe's father wants to destroy the company, no matter what.

This book has so many "duh" moments. Despite Iolanthe telling Alekos why the company was so important to her son, he didn't/wouldn't defer from his path.

I suppose the ending was ok otherwise it was heading for a score of 1.5.

This was really sweet. I think I'm falling into the rhythm of Harlequin Presents books. They have a ton of melodrama and are only slightly longer than novellas. This sort of results in a story that doesn't come to a super satisfying ending...? But they're still really compelling!

I borrowed a four-pack Harlequin bundle from Libby, but I'm going to log each one separately. I'm not cheating myself out of any reading goal progress.

Une romance qui oscille entre passion et vengeance. Elle a le mérite de traiter, certes en surface, de la différence d'un enfant par rapport à ce qu'on voit d'habitude. Ça se lit sans prise de tête.

Iolanthe Petrakis is for the first time going to a ball. Like Cinderella without the evil stepmother her father has kept her isolated in their home but has decided she is now ready to go out and soon pick a husband. She is only 20 and innocent and doesn't like the man her father has chosen for her but knows she has little choice. She meets Alekos Demetriou at the ball and after a small conversation and a dance she is totally enamored of him. An innocent in the arms of a handsome man can make mistakes and she makes one. Giving him her virginity without realizing that her father knows Alekos and their is bad blood between them. What starts out as him seeing a lovely girl across the room ends up with her father breaking into his room finding her there and taking action. Unknown to Iolanthe is their history and she doesn't know that her father takes him in an alley and has him beaten. Being in control is all her father wants so he find she has become pregnant and tells her she will not be wanted buy anyone but his choice Lukas. Feeling she should let Alekos know she finds his address in her fathers things and goes to his penthouse, what she doesn't expect is to be treated horribly and runs out in tears never telling him about the child. Ten years later her father has died her husband is killed in a car accident and Alekos owns a majority of the company this is just the beginning of a deep wonderful story of a mother protecting a child who prefers to stay in his room with his computer and not be with anyone. When Alekos finds out about his son he want to be part of his life and from here the depth of the story begins. Fantastic story about secrets and revenge. They say revenge is best served cold but these two are anything but cold to each other. Not to be miss Ms. Hewitt writes another great book.

Kate Hewitt writes stories that are strong moving and so very enjoyable with characters that come to life on the pages and reel you in with their emotions and the dramas that are happening in their lives and this one another book in The Billionaire's Legacy series is a must read.

Iolanthe Petrakis is innocent and beautiful she is young and pretty much kept isolated in the country by her domineering father, she lost her mother when she was very young and her father threw himself in his IT company, but it is time now for Iolanthe to go to her first ball and with her dreams in her mind she meets the most handsomest of men and decides that at least one night of her dreams will give her joy to keep with her forever, but there are consequences which change everything.

Alekos Demetriou is a self made billionaire an IT specialist he has worked hard to get there after being cheated out of something that meant so much to him years before he doesn't seek revenge but gets on with his life. But when attending a ball in Athens he meets a beautiful young woman not knowing who she is and one night together will have lasting consequences but not straight away it takes a while before he discovers the outcome of that sizzling night .

Truly this one had me turning the pages as I got so involved with Iolanthe and Alekos and their lives and journey to what is a beautiful HEA involving family and company troubles and some truths that need to be shared these two beautiful people deserved happiness and that is what they got thank you MS Hewitt for a fabulous story, this one ticks all the boxes for a great romance and I highly recommend it.

A big part of this book is secrets and lies keeping them apart, so the amount of time we have seeing their romance is not as much as we might want. I enjoyed the story, I just wanted a little more time of them actually enjoying each other.

Iolanthe Petrakis was an innocent, sheltered young lady the night she met and seduced Alekos Demetriou. She had no clue that the man she was having a night of passion with had a history with her father. When Alekos finds out that this beauty in his arms is his enemy’s daughter, he sends her away without an explanation.

When Iolanthe discovers she’s pregnant, she attempts to tell Alekos, but he thinks she was all a set up pawn and doesn’t treat her well when she visits him. She’s scared and doesn’t manage to get out the words that she’s pregnant.

Ten years later when Iolanthe is now alone in the world other than their son, she needs help … Alekos’ help. To get him to agree to what she needs, she’s going to have to tell him about their son. What she doesn’t expect, is his demand that she marry him right away!

An all around great book. The main characters were interesting but the one I loved most was Niko.

I have a grandson that is very similar to his character, so I was eager to see how the author would have Alexos interact with Niko. I was happy to see Alexos' patience and understanding, and his willingness to step back and let things happen at its own pace.

Iolanthe needed a stiffer backbone, but you can't help but sympathize with her. Her father was a tyrant and Alexos's treatment of her was horrid. It took ten years for her to finally grow a pair and find happiness.

Utterly boring

The story had potential but went nowhere. There was absolutely zero chemistry and the "love" story was unbelievable. Actually, I don't think "I love you" was ever exchanged. The epilogue was a waste of time and certainly did not share any light. A waste of my money and an hour and 45mins of my life that I'll never get back. This was not a good romance story. Certainly not Harlequin consistent.

well written and enjoyable. The story starts when they are young and meet without knowing who the other is. Then it skips ahead 10 years. There wasn't a lot of high drama and OTT asshatery. Mostly it was getting to know each other in spite of the baggage of the past. Also I enjoyed that the secret baby who is 10 years old at this point has what was more or less Asperger's. That gave a different element to the father coming in and demanding his child bit. Anyway a pretty decent read.

I liked this book. It is a light feel good read. This is about Iolanthe Petrakis who has a one night stand with ruthless tycoon Alekos Demetriou. She becomes pregnant but Alekos found out who she really was, which was the daughter of his arch rival/enemy. He sends her away. Now its 10 years later and it all comes crashing down around her. Recommend.

2.5 stars; not my favorite but the writing is okay. Could be so much better.

I was expecting a drama, at least where the Hero realize his mistake and apologize. That's the kind of drama that I want. But somehow, I get the angst but not the redemption. That's why this book felt kind of off.

But overall classic blackmail romance and I enjoyed it. Look forward to read more.

Revenge

Revenge isn't everything. But it got him through the hard parts. But what he does find instead of it. Is her and his son. Letting go of the hurt and hate. Have them a future to be proud of.

Interesting

A book that starts off bumpy and gets bumper as it goes. Kinda like life. I also enjoyed the fact that it wasn't a perfect child but one with autism. Finally realism and not all roses. Good little read.

I'm actually quite surprised with how good Kate Hewitt could write about feelings. The main character is a strong woman in the present, and really knows how to put up in a balance the necessities of her own and what will make her happy or not.

1.5 stars, the only redeeming quality was the niko plotline and that was still boring and not explored properly (they don't confirm what disorder he has even though it's mentioned he's on the autism spectrum once and it's never brought up again)
