A worthy read for anyone interested in the Gallipoli campaign. Lieutenant Colonel P.C. Fenwick's Gallipoli Diary written for his wife, provides a detailed account of the Lt-colonels two months as a medical officer at Anzac Cove. He shares his state of excitement leading into the campaign and his eventual disillusionment and collapse of health. As this was written to his wife in the event his was killed there was no need for censorship or to protect her from the knowledge of combat. Fenwicik notes the poor preparations and organization that would dog the campaign as well as the dangerous geography and physical conditions. He often speaks of the lack of water and inability to avoid ingesting flies due to their number. This volume also includes many photos, surprisingly including a few from a short term truce to bury the dead.
