Just as the new Empire has begun to settle, Korba discovers a threat directed at Chelan. Nothing would cripple Korba more effectively than the acquisition of his precious mate by enemy factions. If abducted, she would be the perfect bargaining tool, his ultimate weakness.
Forced to relocate Chelan, Korba chooses a remote, heavily fortified Iceanean outpost. But Chelan has another idea. Where better to be securely sequestered for the duration of the threat than on her own home planet? How could the enemy possibly locate one Earth woman hidden among billions?
En route to war in the Balatesian system, Fremma, Commander of RIBUS 7, is charged with the task of covertly transporting Chelan to her sanctuary. But there he must leave her. It is imperative that she not be on board RIBUS 7 while the ship is engaged in battle. However, she will not be undefended.
With preparations made and security forces in place, Chelan is dropped off on her little blue planet. But reintegrating into her culture is not as easy as she expects. Protection by the Empire from external threats is a given. Protection from her own kind is another matter. Earth, once her home, is now as alien and inhospitable as the Empire once was. Keeping the truth about her disappearance quiet is critical.
Surviving unscathed until RIBUS 7 can return for her is paramount. But when plans go awry, whom can she trust?
This series would be so much better with a different h. Chelan is absolutely worthless. Girl needs a backbone and a prescription for anti depressants. Mental illness is a serious condition. Her alien boyfriends seem to recognize her problems. They can conquer the universe but can't make a pill to chill this chick out. Chelan ruins the entire series.
This story was well worth the wait. We find out Who Chelan loves more than life. Who will betray Korba, Who will fight the demons of help for just one smile...the outcome surprises. A must read for Ribus 7 fan. What Mills delivers exactly what was promised!
Chelan really has the worst and best of luck. Her ongoing story is fascinating and I keep waiting to see what is going to happen next. This book ends on somewhat of a cliff-hanger that has me anxious to read the next book.
I thought this book was absolutely amazing. I have always been a HUGE fan of this series. Its just so indepth and makes you think. The characters each have their own personalities and help Chelan in their own way. I can not wait for the next book Talon to come out! Hopefully its not too long of a wait.
Warning! Spoilers!
So in this book Chelan has been Empress for about 2 years now and things are strained between her and Korba who doesn't seem to have a lot of time for her. He tries but she is not his number one priority. Which I can understand, I mean hey hes trying to rebuilt the Empire with new laws and also fight ROPE but I mean come on. Help the girl out some.
I always liked Korba and I know he truly does love Chelan but time and time again he has shown that he can't truly give her what she needs and doesn't understand her. He misunderstands her illness in the first book and because of the things she says during her delirium almost allows her to die. He also tells Dar that if she ever becomes a problem or interferes in his job to kill her for him. UMM HELLO!!?? WHAT?! Then he finds out about the illness and still leaves without saying or doing anything for her. Comes back a long time later and just expects her to love him still, which she does but I don't always understand why she help a torch for him so long. He didn't kill her when he should have first thing, he does take care of her himself because hes drawn to her but...then the illness happens and he leaves her.
Then the second book he doesn't heed her intuition and fears with Chelan about Ticees. He just assures her that everything will be fine and leaves her to fend for herself and her worst fears are realized. Korba does eventually get her back and does avenge her but at the same time he did that for her but also because they couldn't have an Emperor who would do something like that anyway. Was being corrupt. So now hes Emperor and Chelan is the Empress but....doesn't have time for her. He has other things he has to deal with.
Freema I mean who doesn't love him. He's always been there for Chelan no matter what and I can't say how much I love him as a character and his humor. He is just amazing hands down.
Dar is too. He can come across alittle agressive and I can understand why he has a little bit of a harder time with control compared to Korba and Freema because of his genetics and how the Guild always wanted him as a "stud." He never had to work at getting girls or being with anyone. But he was always there for Chelan and loved her. He did leave her and in a way he did seem to give Korba the opening he needed but he always was trying to do what was right by her even though he loved her. I am personally happy they are together now in this third book. Although I don't know how I feel about her having to relinquish her love and feelings for Freema and also Korba. But mainly Freema, just will be sad for him...So anyway sorry had to get all that out and put my thoughts in about Chelan and her relationships with her guys. Can not wait for the next book!
I absolutely love this series and am excitedly waiting for the fourth book. I have enjoyed the character developments and have re-read the first book many times. I adore Korba, Fremma and Dar.
Spoilers - I was disappointed how 'things' turned out with Jim, as it was quite clearly coming. With Chelan's issues with men I was surprised that she continued to stay with him & the resulting situation was horrible.
The thing I was most disappointed and surprised about was Chelan's decision at the end of the book regarding Dar. It just doesn't make sense!!
Most of the book was ok- but I honest to god could not have imagined a worse ending. Seriously wtaf?. Challen has no spine, and is so wishy washy. She supposedly forgets 2 people she loves just for one, and seems to have no problems with the consequences. I'm legit angry about this. WHY?! Will not be reading the rest of the series, and i feel like i wasted hours of my life reading this.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Revisiting Earth is not quite as grand as she hoped it would turn out with her parents passing. Chelan contacts her brother and convinces him of her story. Lonely and confused she contacts and old friend who ends up being after more than her friendship.
Y'all, this book is BRUTAL. Some of what happens is so difficult. If you are feint of heart then stop reading this series. I was broken after book 3. BUT I've read book 4 and it was so worth it to push through. Highly recommend this series!
