Sloan Kenneth Steele, a popular NYC author, has recently uprooted himself from the stony, callous grip of Manhattan. Wishing for a fresh start after an ugly divorce, he relocates to the city of Maxim. He is still close enough to his adult children and grandson to feel at ease, but there are enough miles between them for him to relish his newfound privacy. Besides, Sloan believes that home is truly where the heart is. What the notorious skeptic fails to realize is that his new life would have its fair share of things that go bump in the night. Not one to easily scare, Sloan ignores the odd goings-on in his newly renovated property, and immerses himself deeper into his work. As time wars on, he gets to know the locals and the place he now calls home. Then, a chance encounter at a grocery store in the wee hours of the morning weaves a path straight into his heart…
Emerald St. Claire is a divorcee with an army daughter. A bit of a hermit, she does enjoy the company of others from time to time, as long as it doesn’t infringe on her passion – fixing the beloved worn and broken. Emerald loves her ho-hum routine, taking comfort in the predictability of her life … until Sloan enters the scene. The two forge a fast friendship and romance, but as Emerald gets to know Sloan better, she realizes he is not what she expected. He is more than she ever anticipated – a tapestry of manliness, suaveness, and contagious humor.
On his part, Sloan finds in Emerald what he always desired – someone he can depend on, a person unafraid to love and be authentic, regardless of who is watching, even if that ‘who’ is the ghost that dwells in Sloan’s remodelled historic home. The house has a troubled history, and so does Sloan. This begs the question: Who is haunting who?
On their independent journeys to self-discovery, forgiveness, and love, they find surprises around each and every dark corner. Will Emerald be able to endure a love that is unexpectedly meshed with the paranormal, and will Sloan finally become a believer in not only ghosts, but the resilient spirit of the human heart, with its ability to heal?
Tiana Laveen was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. She moved away, and now lives inside of her mind, but her heart is occupied with her husband, two children, and twisted imagination. She enjoys a fulfilling and enriching life that includes writing books, public speaking, drawing, painting, listening to music, cooking, and spending time with loved ones.
Tiana Laveen is a uniquely creative and innovative author whose romance fiction is geared towards those who not only want to temporarily escape from the daily routines of life, but also became pleasantly caught up in the twisted, well developed journeys of her unique characters. Tiana creates a painting with words as she guides her reader into the lives of each and every main character. Her dedication to detail and staying true to her characters is evident in each novel that she writes.
Exhilarating, Haunting,,Romantic, and Suspenseful are the words I choose to describe Ghostwriter. Maybe I should add comedic to the list. I was on the edge of my seat,a little scared, all while fall for the older hero and laughing at Aunt Sugar. Tiana did a wonderful job confronting serious issues in a style of her own. I don't give plots or spoilers in my reviews the author has told the story and I recommend you read it.
This is one author that I will not hesitate to read anything she has written. So she writes a story named Ghost Writer and haunted house and I actually want to read it. That in itself is a feat because I don't do scary but I know Tiana Laveen is going to make it authentic and intriguing.
Her books are so diverse, whether it's Forgive me Father for I loved, Smoke and Mirrors, The "N" word, The Fight Within; I just know my world is going to be shaken up.
Sloan Steele is an interesting man, broken after is divorce but ready to move on with his life. Emerald is a beauty with a crazy Aunt Sugar. Lord help me, I wanted to strangle that fictional Aunt Sugar. Sloan and Emerald is just beautiful together.
Even the home where the ghost reigned had a beautiful story woven into the fabric of this incredible book. This is rated high on my must read recommendation. I ain't'fraid of no ghost.
Whelp ... the verdict is in and I am a bona-fide FAN-GIRL of Tiana Laveen. I thoroughly enjoyed Ghost Writer and don’t generally read stories about haunts and haints. But the creativity of Ms. Laveen’s stories is never run of the mill and hasn’t let me down yet so I thought I’d give it a shot. And as with the rest of her tales, this one was good too. I loved the mature love, character development and back stories. I’ve read ev-e-ry-thing she has published (although I’m sure there is much more that is written and locked away – sigh) and Ms. Laveen hasn’t failed me yet. She always invites me back into her imaginary worlds with an open mind and willingness to “give her story a chance,” when I ordinarily wouldn’t, due to the subject matter. Whether it’s a mystery, romance or thriller I’m always left satisfied and often times in love with a character or two. Looking forward to the next and then the next. Hats off to you Tiana Laveen, YOU ROCK!
You never cease to amaze me! The N Word 1 and 2 were the first books that I read by you, and I immediately fell in love with your writing style. I've since read everything that you have written. And once again I was not disappointed. Loved the complex and flawed Sloan and Emerald. As a 50+ woman myself, I loved how they embraced each other and had no time for the mind-games that the young folks play today. They said what they felt and loved every moment with each other. I even loved poor Peter and Sadie; that's how good you wrote this book! I was in tears after Sloan finished Peter's story. Wow, I'm truly at a lost for words right now. Kudos to you Ms. Laveen! If you've never read Ms Laveen's books, I suggest you do! This is book is awesome, as well as everything that she has written.
Wow.....so many lessons taught in this book! Tolerance, acceptance, emotional support, but above all, unconditional love.
Sloan cracked me up...he's a bit irreverent, a whole lot sarcastic and emotionally damaged. Emerald has learned how to distance herself to save herself from eventual pain. She suffered from abandonment issues just like Sloan did...I think this was one of the many similarities which allowed them to be so open and honest with each other.
Aunt Sugar was a mess!! She was hilarious and so much a product of her generation; very staunch black and white opinions with no room for shades of gray.
A bit out of the norm for me, genre wise but a stellar Laveen masterpiece, nonetheless.
I absolutely loved this book. it was a great combination of different genres, paranormal, romance, mystery. i loved the fact that the hero/heroine were and older couple in their 50's and proved that life does not end will old age. The book was romantic, incredibly funny and sad. Sloane and Emerald are perfect together. Aunt Sugar is crazy funny. Mike is funny too. I enjoyed the mystery surrounding Peter Jones. Overall the book is an enjoyable read. I am looking forward to the next book.
I was pleasantly surprised that the author was able to take me out of my comfort zone with this mature love story with a paranormal overtone.
Sloan and Emerald both had some issues in their childhood that shaped who they became as adults. In the story you see that it prevented them from being in a relationship with someone who didn’t allow them to be who they were. This also spilled into the ability to communicate and express certain emotions with their children. This couple was definitely better together than apart and had me thinking of 1 Corinthians 13:14.
Peter pulled at my heartstrings, he and Sloan’s life was so similar that it was no surprise that Sloan was the chosen one. I feel like with all of Peter’s interference with Sloan and Emerald, he orchestrated a love story that he himself wasn't allowed to have.
In this well told story, the characters are well developed and as always there was a message in the madness.
This is my review and how I see it. In this book author Tiana Laveen deals with some truths and it made me look at some of my actions as I took this journey along with these characters. The male lead Sloan Steele, moved to Maxim to create a new start in his life after his wife, smelling of another man, and with a smile informed him that she wanted a divorce. Emerald St. Clarie, also divorced from her husband Andre of fourteen years, is a Maxim resident who receives frequent calls from her bitter toxic Aunt Sugar (my opinion).
I kept wanting Emerald to provide a few hard truths to her aunt and hang-up the phone. Sloan's son made me want to nut punch him. These were my moment of anger when reading this book.
Sloan and Emerald first time together had be hollering. I was laughing so hard that I cried.
I am glad that Nikki and Emerald had a chance to mend their relationship.
This story had given the best of a little bit of everything. Told from several points of view and Sloan Steele the author became Sloan Steele ghost writer to his favorite author Peter Jones. Emerald proved to be Sloans perfect match in every way from the time they meet until the very end of this story.
There were times in reading this book, that I was angry, I laughed and cried. I believe that good books can bring out so many emotions of its readers, because it pulls you into the story and takes you along for the ride and you find yourself growing a bit with the characters as they reexamine things in their lives.
I can't wait to read more of the Raven Maxim series and more books from Ms.Laveen.
Throughout the readings of Tiana..this new series was inevitable....it's thought provoking delving into the realms of afterlife and angry unfulfilled spirits...we all have experienced some kind of unexplained sighting in the form of dejavu...I swear my house I sold several months ago was haunted..never my life have I experienced such nightmares...bad dreams...a feeling of bad spirits waiting to haunt dreams..it happened to more than a few of us...anyway...the story is an adult one.. very real and she made her characters leap off the pages..Sloan and Emerald are in their prime..at 50 and 54...both been married with adult children and at least 1 grandchild...both not looking for a chance at second chances but found it in the middle of a wine section in a supermarket aisle...little did they know the beginning of their blossoming love will make a restless soul free to reunite with his true love...p.s. Aunt Sugar Will make you laugh till the end....what a character
I have been waiting forever for a mature love story, in which both the hero and heroine are grown and act that way. Sloan and Emerald are kindred artistic souls, in need of a second chance at love. This book is an exploration of love. What it looks like, and feels like in all its many forms. The book is so much though, love isn't exclusive to finding the one and living happily ever. Love can also break your heart. It can anchor you or give you wings. Love grows and breathes or dies depending, on what you bring to it. Ms. Laveen has a way of writing anguish in such a way that it becomes breathtakingly beautiful. She brings all the pieces together so you take a journey with each character. At the end both you and the characters are made so much stronger.
I'm a big romantic but this book really got me thinking about life and Love and all that comes with it. The family oriented part of the story line has encouraged me to hash things out with my own mother. Thank you Tiana for a wonderful novel!
yassssss I truly enjoyed this story the paranormal aspect made it even more interesting I especially liked that love can come later in life and become even better than what we expect I'm looking forward to the next chapter in this couple's life great romance!!!
This book was intriguing and I enjoyed it from start to finish. I'm looking forward to the next story and hope we catch another glimpse of Sloan and Emerald.
I chose this book and more from this author because she is a great writer! But this story, wow, only a author with special skills could write a story like this! The main characters are all characters in this book! But my favorites, Sloane, Emerald and Aunt Sugar. Peter Jones scared the s.... Oh of me! Emerald and Sloane were a perfect fit, I am to easily frighten about ghosts to ensure what they went through in that house! Aunt Sugar kept me amused, I needed it, and I could not not complete it, I love Romance so it was worth not putting it down, long, in which I love, and it kept me in suspense! Loved it, I love Tiana books they are all best sellers to me as Sloane book ended up being, now, I am ready for the next book in this series!
OMG!!!! What a terrific book. This book kept me glued to my seat. SLOAN & EMERALD are the perfect couple. It was wonderful to characters who are mature who can be honest with themselves and each other. They were destined to be together to have a beautiful second chance at love. Sloan needed Emerald more than he knew and Emerald needed Sloan. Their chemistry leaped off of the pages.
This book had me literally laughing out loud. Some parts between Emerald and her Aunt were totally hilarious. As well as SLOAN and his friend Mike they had me doubled over with laughter.
I enjoy how Ms Laveen writes, she will have you sucked into her world of characters. This is the 3rd book of hers I have read and I have yet to be disappointed. I LOVED THIS BOOK.
This story is about lost Love, regrets and healing of the soul.To enter into a new beginning and to look at !I've in a different perspective and come out on top. To see yourself in a better light to become a better person and to Love yourself.
Great story taken on a life of it's own. A history of a time when Love between two different races was forbidden. It travel through time and soul heartache to rectify a wrong and to give new birth to people that needed !I've to make them happy.
Riveting story with likeable and inspiring characters
This is a great story and like all of Tiana Laveen's books have elements of romance, injustices, both likeable and unlikable characters, and are thought provoking. This story has a great mystery that the main character has to solve, but it turns out to lead him to a road of self discovery and love. Sloan and Emerald are such an amazing and inspiring couple. They teach you to be open to love at any age, and you are never to old to learn and grow as a person. I recommend this book and all books by this author.
At first I could not understand the title...how did it fit what I was looking for. Ms. T, you have me hooked. This was several genres wrapped up into one. Loved the parallels in the love story of Emerald and Sloan. Then the reuniting of Peter Jones with his true love in the afterlife was moving. You made me cry girl. This was a very creative way to intertwine the paranormal with the bwwm genre. Loved it...I am ready to visit the city of Maxim again.
Never a disappointment with anything Tiana writes. I so loved how the characters all evolved and learned things that brought the families all together. I loved how we all learned that you are never too old to learn and grow either. I'm usually not a fan of straight out ghost books, but leave it to Tiana to pull me in hook line and sinker. Get this book. You will not only not regret it, but you will be happy you did.
This book was definitely different from the few books i’ve read from Ms Laveen. I don’t know how to review it properly, so I am saying this: I enjoyed it, it took me a while to finish it. Sloan, you are a great man and love everything about you, except you need to slow down on the smoke. Emerald, girl you are wonderful and I have no idea how you put up with your aunt Sugar... that woman is insane! 😂 Great characters!
Well developed & beautifully written. I laughed, cried and stayed on edge throughout this story. It was a story within a story of second chances and a revelation of family secrets. My heart goes out to all of the Pete’s & Sadie’s of the past who had to hide their love.
I almost gave up reading this book. I kept going until I fell under the spell of it. I love love stories like that. And I'm so glad I kept going I well give you my rating again. A plus Five stars ratings the best love stories of all time. Again I love stories like that they are true to the heart and soul.
I was waiting on the sexual dynamics I'm used too. Sloan and Emerald made a really good couple, this story was just not my favorite, but I read it because I wanted that HEA, which I got, but just not a lot of hot sex.
Loved this character, I laughed so much when she was talking my daughter was looking at me crazy. I bought this book long ago and just getting around to reading it, again worth the wait. Sloan and Emerald where just lovely and loved the fact that they were older.
Gave this book five stars because it was the first romance novel to bring tears to my eyes. I fell in love with Emerald and Sloan. I loved there imperfect but perfect love.
Love the story, loved the characters and was very surprised of Peter's story, but my favorite was Aunt Sugar. I hope she is in the other books in this series.
