Evie and Friends are back in the final installment of the Pennyroyal Academy trilogy. Evie and friends have advanced to the first class cadets class of the academy and are about to go home for the Summer holidays when they are ambushed and attacked by witches making them retreat back to the school where the witches have started an all-out war to try and destroy the academy. Can Evie and friends save their beloved school before they are all doomed? Read on and find out for yourself.

This was an amazing finale to this trilogy. It was very action-packed and magical. Fans of Princess and witch stories will enjoy this trilogy. Be sure to check this book series out at your local library and wherever books and ebooks are sold.

This was a great addition to the Pennyroyal Academy series, which I started awhile back. Yes, it's definitely a middle school book, but gosh darn it, I liked it! :P I was hoping this was a trilogy, but it sounds like I'll just have to be patient for the next one.

The previous book, The Shadow Cadets of Pennyroyal Academy, left off after a narrow victory that cost Princess Cadet Evie her voice.

There are plenty of books where protagonists go on adventures and suffer incredible injuries, even disabilities, which then get erased as they're miraculously fixed and made to be all better. Of course, you don't want the character to be so disabled that they cannot continue to move forward in the story, and it's much easier to just magic (or science) away the difficulty in some form or another. I felt that M.A. Larson toed the line fairly well - he didn't back down from the damage Evie suffered in order to win the day in the previous book, and he also didn't let that stop her. It could have been easy to say the infirmary princesses found some healing potion that fixed her right up, but Larson didn't do that. In fact, I greatly appreciate that there aren't easy remedies for the various ailments caused by witches' curses in such a plagued world, and so it is highly common for people to be living with some difficulty or other (as many do in any world). It's nothing to be ashamed of and quite commonplace in this world, and I'm glad he didn't shy away from most of his characters having some issue - be it a patch of ice for skin or a Princess living as a goat.

Evie's voice now comes from an enchanted neckband, which can be removed or lost if she's not careful. Yes, she has her voice back in a way, and granted, magic is involved, but if she doesn't have her neckband, she doesn't have a voice. Her neckband is her accessibility device, making it possible for her to easily communicate verbally. Just because she has access to an accessibility device doesn't take away her disability - does having the help of my wheelchair or medications mean I'm no longer disabled? No. There is so much erasure of disabilities in literature, and I was relieved to find that this series does not seem to fall heavily into that ableist habit.

Just as with any disability, not every single aspect of it is bad - her removable voice can be extremely useful. Just as sometimes my wheels can be incredibly useful. Despite the constant danger of losing her voice for good, her neckband can open new possibilities - in a skirmish with witches or other enemies, with her friends, and along her travels. For example, the story begins with Evie's disembodied voice scaring the pants off of Princess Cadet Basil at the very end of their second year at Pennyroyal Academy.

Evie's world has grown darker and more dangerous as Calivigne's forces launch a large-scale attack on Pennyroyal Academy on the day that everyone heads home for the summer. Very quickly, the Academy is surrounded with no way out and no end in sight to the siege. With Headmistress Beatrice unable or unwilling to see that this is more calculated and organized than the usual witch maneuverings, it is up to Evie and her beloved friends to find a way to save not just those who made it safely back to the fairy-protected walls, but the Academy itself and all hope for the people of this world and the future. A Princess completes her mission, she adapts to the circumstances in order to attain her goal.

I loved this book and this series, and I very much hope there will be another book. Yet I was satisfied with the ending. I want to explore this world, these characters, and follow the story further, but if the only way to do so is in my imagination, so be it. The ending leaves you yearning for more, but certainly not in a disappointed, desperate way.

Very sweet ending to the Pennyroyal Academy trilogy.

After surviving the harrowing Witches Night of their 2nd year, 1st Class Cadets Evie, Maggie, Demetra, and Basil are on their way home for a much needed rest before their final year at Pennyroyal Academy. On the way through the forest however, witches attack, and our sheroes find themselves trapped in the academy with scared family members and a delusional headmistress. Naturally, the gang must escape from the school and find a way to stop the witches before evil destroys their beloved symbol of hope and courage forever.

Larson does a great job, as always, of keeping the action thrilling and the characters loveable. While the formatting of this book is a bit different since the cadets aren't at the academy, their "real-life" adventures out in the world make for entertaining fare. Many of the loose ends from previous books tie up cleanly with answers and resolutions, and the gang learns to make their own way in a world with danger and magic.

My only complaint about the book is that the ending felt rushed. All the build-up of the previous books comes to a head and then it's simply over. "The End. All gone. Woo-hoo!" ...Hmm. Not the delicate spooling of mysteries and solutions from the previous books. In fact, the ending made me think there should have been one more book or another trilogy.

All in all, a quick, magical read full of strong ladies and gents growing up, kicking butt, and saving the world.

My daughter and I have read all the books in this series as they've been released over the past couple years. I was in love with this series up until this last book. I'm not sure if I built up my expectations as I waited for the final book to be released, but this book was a bit of a let down. I was disappointed with the ending, was left with a few unanswered questions, and overall felt like the series wasn't really over. I wanted more closure regarding Evie's family. Perhaps I just want more books, because despite my low rating of this book, if another book were released, I would definitely read it!

I wish I could reread this entire series with a fresh set of eyes! This book was incredible and it tied up so many loose ends, and there is even room for another book (which I'm hoping there will be)!! All this to say, this series took me by surprise, and I was even more impressed that a male author chose to have a female protagonist. So neat!

I highly recommend these to anyone who likes Harry Potter, The Princess Academy Series, and anything fantasy/adventure/mystery/intrigue, etc..

So enjoyable!

Personal Response

Personally I really liked the book The Warrior Princess of Pennyroyal Academy. I like how it put a twist on the “typical fairy tale story”. I also liked how in the end everyone had their own goal in mind, which gave a great setup for more books in the series.

Plot Summary

The book starts off with Evie and her friend Maggie riding in their coach to Maggie’s house. Evie decided to stay with Maggie over the break after finishing her first year at Pennyroyal Academy. The two talked about their stay at the academy, and all was well, then everything turned for the worst. The coach was ambushed by witches; the two ran back to the academy with the witches in hot pursuit. When they got back to the academy, others were there who had also been attacked. And with depleted fairy food and the academy surrounded by witches, Evie had to come up with a plan to save herself, her friends, and the academy. Her first plan was to get a magic harp from Rumplestiltskin with the help of his brother Rumplesoutsnout. That later failed when the two of them were teleported due to them both sitting on a magic chair. Then Evie went back home to her dragon family to ask for help with the academy. Her mother, father, and sister all agreed and helped the cadets reclaim Pennyroyal Academy.

Recommendation

I would recommend this book to anyone from the age of 12-18. I would recommend age cap because the book is directed towards teens and M.A. Larson had them specifically in mind while this book was written, so it is a bit more appropriate for them. But, some adults like young adult books and if so, I would recommend this book.

I was thoroughly disappointed in this book. The writing is not the best. Things don't come together well and it's very jumpy and disjointed. I thought the same about the first two but thought the story was worth the mediocre writing. However, I disagree with that in the third book. I spent the whole book half part bored and the other half thoroughly not enjoying myself and finished it simply to finish the story. Things just happened in such an odd way and the story just wasn't put together well. For example, it takes them so much time and effort to get to a certain spot in the forest and then they separate, go on missions and are suddenly back at the academy without any resistance. How did they magically get back across the witches lines? I don't get it... So many times these things didn't make any sense. Also, the book had no conclusion. I saw they were off to finish things, not to start a new quest but to finish what they'd been doing, with only a few pages left in the book and was really confused. I like that Evie has more of a story left to do on her own, but also, it was a really weird spot to leave us. I think a middle grader won't mind the writing, but as an adult, I could hardly stand reading this book.

I'm so sad there is not going to be another installment to tell the rest of Evie's story. I almost want to give it less stars because I don't want it to be over 😉. But this is for the series as a whole. Props to Mr. Larsen and his writing. It was unexpected, refreshing and well written. This is everything a princess should be! Now to force my girls to try it.

ok so

ok, so, i read the first book years ago. then i reread it in like a day and then had read the second one 4 days later. then i took longer on this one. it took me over a month and like over half of it i read in the past two days. but that’s only a MONTH in between, so why do i not remember??
do I not remember because it didn’t HAPPEN, or do I not remember because i have worse memory than a GOLDFISH?

i cant tell if these things came out of left field or not. i feel like they did! but i could’ve just forgotten! but it’s only been a month!!
why do i forget everything i read this is a problem actually

anyway, overall, i don’t know how I feel about how this ended.
and it doesn’t feel like the story’s really ended, you know?

book one was perfect. like it was so good.
books two and three were also good but idk how i feel about how it all ends
but would i rec this series? yes.
also i thought there were still like 20 pages left because they put the first chapter of the first book in the back. i HATE when they do that
also I WANT A MAP WITH SEVIGNY ON IT
also for real HOW OLD ARE THESE CHARACTERS I LEGITIMATELY HAVE NO CLUE
ok i looked it up and the author said evie was about 15. OK BUT IN WHICH BOOK
does she START the series at 15, or END it there? or in the middle? and what is "about"?? sir

There was plenty of action and a few more surprises in this 3rd book from the series. I did thoroughly enjoy it, but I'm unlikely to reread it.

A few comments:

Why was Evie trusting Malora again? Even if they're sisters, Malora has disproved herself over and over again. Hoping someone becomes trustworthy doesn't make it so.

Why did Evie abandon the carriage driver after saving his life, getting him out from under the carriage? She just sort of abandoned him after they fell, didn't search for him, and didn't care much what happened to him. He would've at least been lamed and surrounded by all those witches. I could understand Evie wanting to make sure that she herself was safe first, but she never did try to further help him.

Often in this book, Evie and the other princesses seemed to use anger to dispatch the witches, rather than the compassion which was in their mantra. That made me wonder if they were lessening themselves and becoming something less than princesses. For example:
Maggie: "If any of his turns out to be true, I'll feed you to the wolves myself."
Where is the compassion in that?

Marline should've known better than to send her hawk in a prank. If it was a prank. She should've known that wouldn't turn out well.

About the magic chair: why didn't they think to follow the trolls with the stolen harp by sitting in the chair themselves? Or does it not always deposit people in the same place from the same place. (Is there not a one-to-one correlation of places? Math. Ha-ha)

Enough moldy rotting places!! Why?

There was so much in this book about families who didn't get along, and families who gave up on each other, or had an evil member, or whatever, that I found the betrayal after betrayal after betrayal discouraging. Of course, some families are like that in real life, too, and some (but not all) of the families in this book were knit back together. But it was still painful to read.

I wish Malora's character arc had gone differently. Some of us had even wondered whether she was the warrior princess.

Speaking of that, three of us in this household are disappointed by whom it turned out to be. Not that it had to be the expected one, but that there were other good choices. My husband was rooting for Basil. Looking over at other reviews, it looks like a fair amount of other reviewers were also disappointed in the choice for warrior princess.

The next mission, to destroy the witches' training center: since the attack on this princesses training center went so poorly, devastatingly, and was so massive in nature, why do they think just a couple of princesses can pull off the reverse?

Why does this type of story always have to end with some horrific battle at the end? I'm thinking Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Divergent, the Avenger series, etc ... I am tired of teen battles. They don't really resolve many inner issues anyway; it's just survive and/or massacre all the "bad" guys. Not much depth or meaning or character growth, and not even very interesting. It's just a bunch of repetitive fighting. Sigh. I know I'm not in the target audience.

Favorite quotes:

"I'm saying I want to talk to someone who I know is honest."

"If there's one thing I've learned during my time in this world, it's that there's no conversation that cannot be improved with gravy."

"I'm sorry I was so mean to you out there."
"Mean to me? Evie, we're in a bloody war here!"

Let me start by saying that this whole series has been truly breathtaking. I haven't read anything so original in such a long time. I didn't know these three books were something I needed in my life but MY GOODNESS I NEEDED these in my life. This is the last book in a three book series and it was wonderful.

It reads smoothly. The pacing of everything in the book is fantastic, it doesn't lag or feel drawn out at any point and I don't feel like anything is rushed or cut short.

The author does a great job of making sure all the questions are answered by the end of the series. And honestly, the plot of each book and the overall series is SO GOOD. There were so many things I couldn't have predicted (and I usually feel like I can predict what the plot twists are going to be). It was extremely refreshing.

BIG POINT HERE. I want to say that yes there is a small romantic aspect in the series. Ya know girl likes boy. Etc. But this aspect was honestly so minimal and refined that it wasnt even a main plot but a nice additive. This isnt a book about a girl falling in love with a guy and I think it's great. A girls life isn't about finding love. But there was so much development and growth for the main character, especially in regards to her family. I loved how important family was in these books and how it was about to portray some very real and relatable aspects of family dynamic.

Finally, I loved this book because it's written from a female protagonist but there's still action. This female spends just as much time saving others as she does being saved if not more. I like how it shows that you can be strong but still need help.

Overall there's just so many amazing things about this series that I never expected when I picked up the first book. I can remember almost putting it back down in the store but I'm so glad I didn't. This is definitely one of those stories that you'll never forget.

OH HOW LONG I HAVE WAITED FOR THIS.
The process of this waiting was really one of the main things that made my reading experience all the more enjoyable. After finishing Shadow Cadets last June, I had to know when the final installment would arrive. And to my utter dismay, there was no set release date at the time. Every day was long and tedious. I ended up re-reading the first and second books because my hunger for them was so immense. And once August rolled around I WAS READY. I re-read (for the third time) Pennyroyal Academy and the Shadow Cadets of Pennyroyal Academy, just before reading this one. And when I checked my Goodreads, I had already rated it five stars. And it definitely was.

If you haven't read the first or second books in the series, I recommend this thoroughly for those who are getting into fantasy (or those who are simply overwhelmed by high fantasy and intense world building and such). Lovers of middle-grade fantasy will especially appreciate this (even though I'm not quite sure how old the characters are. But it reads like a middle grade, whether or not the main characters are within that age group). But this book got me singing and it's just fantastic.

If you haven't read this one yet - warned of spoilers or talk of events from previous books! I have not hidden this review due to the fact that this series deserves more praise (shout out to M.A. Larson).

I had a number of theories going into this.
1. When I first read the synopsis and found out that witches were taking over the Academy, I PRAYED that they wouldn't stay there the whole time. Too much has to happen in the final book for it to be stuck in a castle.
2. In the first and second books, everyone kept going on and on about how Evie is the Warrior Princess. But I found that a bit suspicious. I mean, why shove it in your face? So I decided that Evie was not the Warrior Princess. Nah, she's just a badass who was raised by dragons. I'm sure she'll have her own cool title.
3. I wanted to know about EVIE'S BIRTH MOTHER. The first time I read Shadow Cadets, I was on a red eye flight for five hours and I really wanted to read that thing. So about halfway through the flight, I just started skimming. After re-reading it a few months later, I found out that I missed quite a bit. For those months, I thought that Evie's dragon mother was actually Evie's birth mother, but she was under a curse or something. I don't know how I came to that conclusion but wow I'm disappointed in myself. Anyway, VORABEND. I had plenty of side theories about who she was. Since her husband, King Callahan, was known to have looked out at the sea for hours at night, I thought that maybe she was a mermaid. Hahahahahha I know. Whatever. Then I thought she might be a sea witch. Anyway, I thought she was some underwater creature. I wanted her back story so freaking badly.

And guess what? I CAUGHT THEM ALL. They left the castle, Evie was not the Warrior Princess, AND VORABEND IS FREAKING PRINCESS MIDDLEMISS. (I totally didn't catch that AT ALL).

And I completely forgot about the Queen of the Academy.
GOsh some much happened in this book.
Well, at first I was scared that it would end too soon because of the long journey to Goblin's Glade and such. But it ended up working out really well.

There was a whole lotta drama in this book. A lot of people died.
Remington's dad (yep he's king now poor child)
Basil's sister (yep she got a sister, but apparently she's been dead for a bit. well, turned into stone but I count that. Also she got the same name as meee)
Forbes's mom (killed by a dragon OF COURSE - no wonder he hated them. also Forbes had a fantastic character/redemption arc damn son)
Sage (I think, though she was also turned to stone. we don't know what happened to her. honestly)
Marline??? (poor girl, what a great character. pretty sure she's dead since she doesn't show up again. I really thought she would. plus basil left her stone hawk brother in the woods. this family was screwed over them we must avenge them)
Calivigne (well duh she's the villain. though i wish there was more of her. I felt like I knew Javotte more than Calivigne, and apparently she was a distraction of whatever.)
Countess Hardcastle(honestly thought she was dead already but nope. Evie snatched her from this world when she started spewing bs about how "Callahan was supposed to be hers" that sounds familiar...cough cough Malora wow some mother
Also Malora (poor Malora. I really loved her. she's the prime example that witches can be good. apparently no one else gets that and now demetera's gonna kill them all. I really don't how she'll do that. also, Malora is so confusing but i get i mean she's confused. she was confused until the end. poor baby her sacrifice killed me ah)

I think that's it?? i mean a lot more must've died the entire castle basically burned to the ground.
But wow I loved this book. Vorabend did not end up being a supernatural creature, just a Princess of the Shield who married for love (and then got screwed over by being painted and then being sucked into said painting). And poor Callahan had to choose between his daughter (cause Vora was preggers) and his wife. He chose the daughter cause that was the thing he talked about in the letters (how Vora would hate him if he made a different choice). But SHES STILL ALIVE. PLOT TWISTT. She's Middlemiss and she's marrying some guy (a wealthy king I must say) I was wondering why they mentioned the royal wedding but now I get it.

Demetera and Basil. Good for them. Super subtle, but I caught on. I was glad they kissed (I saw it coming guys I saw it coming!!) Maggie is the next Headmistress, I swear to you. Poor girl went through a lotta stuff. Evie is still my fav and is still not treated right. Remington is the only good one. Also he was yet again removed from the plot for a good portion of the story ( i say again because this has happened too many times). BUt they're together at the end no matter what Evie's dragon parents say!!!

There was stuff I kinda wanted to be resolved. Like what was Cinderella doing? She didn't show up til the end like what. Also, is Remington's mom still alive? I guess the kingdoms are patrilineal but whatever. I wanted to meet Remington's little brother, they talked about him a lot. :( But oh well. Also Maggie's dad? Is he still cool or just an annoying parent? But I guess it'll only be resolved in my imagination.

Overall IT WAS AMAZING. Lots of action, fun dialogue, DRAMAAA. I only wish they were longer (like 700 pages or something...sorry Mitchell I know writing books can be difficult)

I love it so much and very satisfied. Evie still deserves better

a good 3/5 stars book.

This was by far my favorite book in the trilogy. I loved finally getting information on the witches and information on the mysterious portrait.

Without giving away spoilers (because I think this series is worth a read), I did feel a little bit disappointed with the wrap of the series. I also felt that there were some areas where the author could develop the setting and the ambiance.

I think the author builds the conflict and tension well. There were hints of suspense and where the author surprised me. But often the resolutions to the conflicts in the stories felt flat or rushed. The saving grace in this book was that the final battle was epic and emotional.

Unfortunately, the series wrap after the epic battle was so rushed. And the attempt at the twist at the end... didn't make any sense. There was no character development to get you to support the twist outside of a few facts.

I was also disappointed at the overall sense of setting and ambiance, and magic system. There was a lack of ambiance and lacked a feeling of time passing. I felt my imagination had to do a lot of heavy lifting to create this for the story. The Princess Magic System... was a little lame... It was a nice thought that the source of their power would be compassion, courage, and love.... but it's application felt limiting especially compared to the witches.

I loved the villains in this series. They seemed to just be more complex and interesting than the hero team. They were humorous, crazy, and grotesque and I loved it. The giants and troll brothers were the best.

I will say the humor of the male and older female characters in this book (and Marline) really helped elevate the storytelling. They were some of my favorite characters in the series. And again the author was skilled at surprising the reader and creating tension.

Overall, I think a less critical reader would be over the moon about this book and series. It was a solid read that I enjoyed, flaws and all.

Goodbye, And Good Riddance Pennyroyal/Library Loan

I was rather disappointed with the beginning of this book. This is the last in the trilogy, and I’ve been very dispirited with what I’ve read so far.

It appears the author struggled with this one, and it’s not truly about the Pennyroyal training we’ve come to expect.

Rather it goes into a huge battle that last the entirety of the book.

There’s such a push for every book to be turned into a minimum of a trilogy, and unfortunately, sometimes even more. This seems to hold even more so true in the genre of Fantasy. As the saying goes, more is not always better, and sometimes, less is more.

I see a spin-off, or a book 4 coming. It has to manifest into something more, other than the way the ending is written. Either that or there’s going to be some enormously disgruntled readers of this particular series. Than again, seeing that book 3 was published in 2017, this could possibly very well be the case.

For myself, I’m perfectly content with stopping here. Without providing any spoilers, I loved the MC the 3 books have followed, and have no interest in there being a new MC.

Looking back at my other reviews on the book 1 and 2, I had rated them as a 3 and a 4, respectively. This one barely comes in at 3, and I’m genuinely crushed to give it that.

Goodbye Pennyroyal. It was fun while it lasted, until it wasn’t.

The Warrior Princess of Pennyroyal Academy picks right up where the Shadow Cadets leaves off. I didn't expect the action to happen so soon-- I thought it would follow the previous pattern and pick up the next school year. But, things can't stay quiet at Pennyroyal Academy that long. When the Academy is attacked by giants and witches just as the last few stragglers are leaving for the summer, Evie and her friends must begin a dangerous quest to save the school, friends, and family they love.

This book packed a lot of action in! The immediate threat from the witches and giants set the pace for the rest of the book. The journey to find the magic harp did seem to be a long part of the book for its results, but it still provided action and excitement.

I definitely did not see the end of the book coming. I had no idea the series didn't end with this book, but the way the story was wrapped up made it obvious that another volume is coming.

spoiler alert! scroll down for details

I was very surprised at the revelation that Demetra was the Warrior Princess and not Evie. It seemed an odd choice, since Demetra's character was never all that well-fleshed out even after three books. Why spend three books focusing on Evie, only to have her not be the princess of the prophecy, after all? I guess we'll have to read the last book to find out.

Larson, M. A. The Warrior Princess of Pennyroyal Academy (#3), 359 pages. Putnam (Penguin), 2017. $17. Content: G (some danger)

The students of Pennyroyal Academy are supposed to be heading home for the summer, but a concerted attack by a massive force of witches turns many of them back to the safety of the magic barrier. Then a trio of giants set-up shop outside the border, effectively stopping the Academy from ever getting out a plea for help. The barrier will be coming down any day, so Evie, and her friends plot a way out to make a run for help. Along the way, however, each of her friends seems to have a slightly different mission, leaving Evie almost completely alone when she needs them the most.

So many unanswered questions at the end of this – but in a very good way. Larson still has me enthralled with the interactions and plot devices. I do hope, however, that this series will find a natural end soon, so that I can meet new characters and places form inside the author’s mind.

This was a great end to the series. The main plot thread that was throughout all 3 books were concluded, as well as my plot twists and secrets being revealed.

Personally, the ending was open ended. There were many secrets revealed in this book and therefore more missions for the characters to do and complete. I would like a spin off book talking about if their new missions were successful.

In terms of the romantic subplot, there was barely any moments between Remington and Evie. The only time they could get significant interactions was when the book ended with them taking a mission together. The side couple in this book had more chemistry than these two did throughout the series. I feel like there were opportunities the author could have had to help their relationship but decided to make it short, or summarize their moments.

This series is great and I appreciate when there are girl and boy friendships that do not lead to relationships.

This third installment in the Pennyroyal Academy series begins just as Evie and the other second year students have officially advanced and are being sent home for the summer. In a move that no one expects, the witches have launched a coordinated attack against the carriages filled with Pennyroyal students, faculty, and family members. The princesses fight back hard, and return to find Pennyroyal Academy under siege. Evie, Basil, Demetra, Maggie, and Forbes set off on a secret mission to get help before it is too late. The theme of family is woven throughout the book, as each of the Princesses and Knights must decide what influence his/her family has over the person s/he hopes to become. Highly recommended for fans of the series, grades 4 and up. I strongly suggest reading them in order.

This was a really great conclusion to the trilogy, overall. I liked the continued development of the characters and some of the ending twists (both expected and not) were handled pretty well. I will say that the very end felt weirdly rushed, almost like words thrown on the page in order to get the characters to a particular place. It felt weird and didn't make sense in a lot of ways. But, except for the last chapter-ish, I thought the ending was satisfactory. I liked that some things were left open-ended, but not too much.

I fell in love with this series from book 1. I don't feel too sad now that it's over now, I'm a little disappointed. The ending...I just didn't like it. I mean, we spent like the whole series thinking that the Warrior Princess was Evie and then, with less than ten pages left, we find out it's DEMETRA. No!!!! Whyyyyy?!?!😫😭😫 I was going to give this a 4.5, but that ending gave it a 4. Grrrrrrmmmmm

What I DID like about this book was the action and adventure and EVERYTHING except, you know, the end. Evie gets her dragon dad back and her human mom...sort of. But I guess you know that since I put on spoilers and you're still reading this.

I loved this series and I recommend it to every fantasy fan in the whole wide universe.

It's not often that I read the final book of a trilogy first, but I did. Now I have to go back and read the first two. It was that enjoyable.
This fairytale was filled with princesses learning to be warriors. It also had knights learning as well. Lest we forget the other important players: there be dragons, giants, trolls, ogres, goblins, and plenty of witches wanting to destroy Pennyroyal Academy. Amidst this fight are other missions that the warriors are undertaking and find that they are constantly getting sidetracked. Sprinkled with well placed humor you will find cameo appearances by Cinderella and Rapunzel. Truly a delightful read and well worth a recommendation. For middle grades.

Evie and her friends find themselves in another adventure. This time to try and save Pennyroyal Academy. There are many partings and returnings together. Evie'S dragon family gets involved.
There are giants and organized witches. There are terrible battles.
Evie learns more about her human family.
And the warrior princess turns out to be a surprise.
This series teaches values of kindness, compassion, teamwork, understanding and courage. Evie and her friends learn to bring out the best in each other and are willing to let each person seek what is most needed even when it makes it hard on the team.
I have enjoyed each book in the series.

I had read the first two books in this series via audiobook and that’s what I would have preferred for this one. To my surprise I found that the audiobook doesn’t exist. For some odd reason they never made one and it seems the author dropped the project. I got the print version and proceeded to speed read through it. The story is still chaotic, jumpy, and convoluted. Characters would show up with no backstory, do something heroic only to disappear again. Other characters would tell long winded stories just to tie up loose ends. The ending definitely shows that the author meant to write more books. But it seems that won’t happen anymore and maybe that’s for the better.

This is a fun to read last book in the series about Pennyroyal Academy. I do think it has potential to be continued if the author chooses to do so though and I would love to see that happen. As the story begins, Evie and Maggie are attacked by witches and rush to the Academy and find that it is under attack by witches as well. There is lots of action, adventure and courage as Evie and her friends try to save the Academy from the witches. They learn again that fear is conquered by love and that kindness and respect are the marks of a true princess.

I think this book was good up until the battle. The battle at the end seemed half arsed and ended a little too prematurely. Further more, the twist at the end of Evie not being the warrior princess left me completely questioning what i had read in the past 3 books. It just did not make sense, for it was Evie who had done majority of the things throughout, planning it, and acting on it. Further more, Evie being ripped from the title of warrior princess, given that,u know, she had just killed the most powerful witch in existance felt off.

Amazing end to the trilogy. I genuinely did not expect the twist with Demetra being the Warrior Princess, so it made it all the more surprising when it was revealed. I had an inkling from the start that the headmistress was evil in some way or another, and was glad to see Forbes finally man up and do what was right concerning his father. I wish we got an epilogue at the end though, or something, just to see Evie reunite with her mother, but overall it was just as adventurous and action-packed as the previous two books.

Due to the plot twist and unexpectedness, I gave it 5-stars, but I am not sure if I liked the ending. I hope that there is another series after this about the same characters in order to fill in the questions that I still have about this book. Overall, it was a good story, but I am not sure about the ending.

This is a great book for those of you who like reading books like Harry Potter. The genre of this book is adventure. Anybody can read this book but start from the first book which is just Pennyroyal Academy and the second book is The Shadow Cadets of Pennyroyal Academy. This is the 3rd and last book.
