This is my first foray into games using the Powered by the Apocalypse system, and I have to say, I am very impressed!

As an introduction to role playing games, this little book ticks all the marks: it is clearly presented, the rules are easy to understand, it encourages creativity, and does not get to crunchy. By explaining that each individual DM (dragon master) should interpret and expand the moves system to match the game they want to play (and providing direct references to the inspirational materials), this game is perfect for the beginner and experienced game master alike.

As a world book, this product could not be better. It paints a picture of a beautiful, diverse, and accepting world ruled by dragons and inhabited by creatures that are only limited by the imagination of the individuals playing the game. The constant reminders to keep play rooted in the traditions of the realm- without expressly defining those traditions - provides a creative freedom that is rarely seen in sourcebooks that define a world.

I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in role playing, dragons, or especially those interested in role playing dragons, as an invitation to participate in a vibrant and special world in which both external and internal exploration are not just possible, but encouraged.

I was very disappointed in this game. With Powered by the Apocalypse games, it's key that the rules are focused on the core gameplay and support that gameplay. Unfortunately, the rules don't support at least one of the key modes of play.

One of the major interactions in the game is supposed to be interaction with the wilderness, but nearly two thirds of the Moves in the book are only usable when interacting with other dragons! That leaves Act Despite Danger, Moon Magic, and Shadow Magic as the only options when interacting with the wilderness. Note the lack of any sort of 'assess' move.

To me, this makes the game as written unplayable. I could play a game set solely in the 'civilized' areas fairly well, using all the Moves provided, but that's not what the game claims to support. If I want to do the kinds of games the book claims to support then I will have to hack my own Moves (or borrow from other games) in order to do so.

I do have to give credit to them for at least not following the recent trend of leaving playbooks out of the rules.

A cute family/kid friendly TTRPG where you play as a clutch of young drakes fighting back against the darkness. It's a PbtA game, which makes it easy to understand for people who have played other Powered By The Apocalypse ttrpgs, and I like the friendship gem mechanics as well. Epyllion feels like a Saturday morning cartoon, tightly focused around themes of friendship, kindness, and personal growth.
