Sideris Gate, Book 1 of the Paradisi Exodus Series Genre: Near-Future Scifi, Apocalyptic Earth, Colonization, First Contact
The last ship to leave. A new galaxy awaits. And time is running out. The last ship to leave Earth is in lockdown and controlled by the corrupt Challenge Command. Chief Solomon Reach and his Reacher crew hatch an insane plan to take back the ship. First order of business: survive. Second order of business: launch the ship and make it to Sideris Gate, the wormhole that will deliver them to the planet New Eden in the Andromeda galaxy.
If only it were that easy.
If Solomon fails in his mission, Challenge Command will leave three thousand of his crew to die on an apocalyptic Earth.
The Paradisi Chronicles Universe In the last decades of the twenty-first century, ten families seeking to escape an increasingly devastated Earth focus their power and wealth on constructing spaceships that will allow a select few to leave Earth and colonize the world they call New Eden. Here, on their new home in the Paradisi System, these Founding Families hope to avoid the environmental and political disasters that were destroying Earth. But they find that the world they claim for their own is already inhabited, and the Ddaerans, although human in their appearance, possess abilities that the Founders and their descendants find both intriguing and frightening…

Built by seven founding members of the group, Paradisi Chronicles has grown by leaps and bounds as more and more authors continue to explore 200 years of history spanning the flight from an apocalyptic Earth to the settling and expansion of the Paradisi System. _____________________________________________________
USA Today and Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author Cheri Lasota is an author, cover designer and editor. Her bestselling debut novel, Artemis Rising, is a 2013 Cygnus Awards First Place Winner and a 2012 finalist in the Next Generation Indie Books Awards. Cheri also helped found the Paradisi Chronicles, a massive open-source Sci-Fi universe set on the fictional planet, New Eden. Her Paradisi Exodus series focuses on the early years of the human exodus from Earth to the new planet. Cheri’s most recent project is her ambitious Historical Fantasy series, Immortal Codex, which explores the lives of immortals throughout history.
This is a great start to a space opera. After the ten ships built to carry the Founders, read riches families who paid for the construction, left the dying Earth, the eleventh ship, reserved by contract for the workers of the Reach Corporation readied to leave. But when Solomon Reach the engineer who owned the company learned that Command Control planned to replace 3,000 of the Reachers with their own family and friends, he sets out to ensure his people are the ones to go. There’s a lot of intrigue but more scrambling through passages between the decks. I’ve enjoyed other books about the Paradisi Project, but this tells the story from a different angle.
A fast-paced sci-fi space adventure with plenty of action, intrigue, romance and even some ethical quandaries. Lasota does especially well in capturing the desperate, hopeful, frontier spirit of the last humans to escape a dying Earth. I do wish she had painted a clearer picture of the layout of the space station and spaceship, as the characters travel extensively through these structures over the course of the story, but such uncumbersome explication is a notoriously difficult problem of this genre. That minor concern aside, Sideris Gate is a quick and enjoyable read that sets the stage for the rest of the series.
I enjoyed this installment of the Paradisi Chronicles very much. The story is rich in characters with some action and suspense. It is a story of hope, betrayal, fighting for survival and a little bit of romance. The protagonist, Solomon Reach, is a very likable guy in a very tough situation. Even though he has to do some unlivable things, I found myself having great sympathy for him. At the end of the book there is a great nail-biting sequence. Can’t wait to read the next book to see what happens and how it all works out.
Bit too much in the way of fight scenes for me - although probably well written, just too much blow by blow detail, not my cup of tea. Same can be said for the (rather mild) sex scene. That said, it is still a good story. I look forward to other books in this world.
I love the Paradisi Chronicles books. First I read the two books by Cheri Lasota. It seems the perfect way to start. I am eager to read the next book. Hurry please, I need to know what happens next.
The characters in this sci-fi novel make the story worth reading. They're in a struggle for survival as the Earth is about to implode and people in charge of the evacuation to another solar system intend to pull a horrific double-cross. Is it ever right to threaten an innocent person? Would you be able to watch as thousands of people are left behind to a sure demise? If you love sci-fi, you're sure to find something in the Paradisi universe you love. And if you enjoy Ms. Lasota's unique voice and style, you won't be disappointed by her latest release.
I've read all the other titles in the Paradisi Chronicles and LOVED them, so I snatched this one up as soon as I could.
This is the follow-up to "Paradisi Escape." Both are fantastic books. The author doesn't just tell a story, she created the ship that it takes place on. You actually feel like you're on the ship and part of the story. I felt very invested in the characters & look forward to Book Three in this series-within-a-series.
