She killed him, but did it make a difference?

Her kind has been exposed, abused, and segregated, and now Teddie Leason is top of Britain’s most wanted list at just nineteen. Teddie has to decide whose side she is on, what she fights for, and whether it’s worth her life.

How can she protect the man she adores, the Uncle who has taken her under his wing, and her unfaltering friends, when she can barely take care of herself? Dealing with new power and a history that has long since been forgotten, has rendered the world’s most powerful EVO vulnerable and at risk.

When will she be dealt a winning hand? Could a clandestine, renegade group of EVO change not only her fate, but that of everyone affected by this unprecedented war? And how does Teddie fit in a world bracing for a shift of unfathomable magnitude?

Another great read...

War is brewing between the Norms and the EVOs, and Teddie is becoming a bit of a force to be reckoned with! The action really cranked up a level towards the end, leaving me diving straight into book three!!

Shit got real in EVO Shift. Teds really got her fight on in this one. Just in time, too, because things really turned against her. More so than in EVO Nation, I mean.

This was a very tense read. The dark atmosphere from the first book carried over into this one and intensified. Chapman included some natural laughs which didn’t feel forced despite everyone’s mood, and which were needed to ease the tension a little.

Now, I know Maggie had every right to be upset and be in a dark place after what happened in EVO Nation but damn, she lost her shit! I never expected her to turn this way or do the things she did, and was suspicious of her every move. It’s unfortunate that things have escalated the way they have with her, but she wasn’t exactly willing to talk.

Throughout the book Chapman gives some insights into Teddie’s childhood as well as Adam’s childhood, which was a great way of feeding us some background info. I loved learning more about the characters and that we got to discover things together with Teds – things she had forgotten – was great.

If Teds got her fight on then Yana turned into a warrior queen. I remembered her as being a little timid and shy and reserved, but she matured a lot and grew into someone who doesn’t take shit from anyone. Seeing her like this, fighting and standing up for what she believes in, was amazing and I do believe I have a new favourite character. Right after Golding. No one will ever replace Golding. Never.

Towley was back in this one, too, and I can’t tell you how much I wanted to hurt him for what he got up to. I was glaring at my screen, I loathe that man so much. Whatever Teds does to him in the final book will be very deserved, and I do hope she makes him suffer for a very long time before showing mercy. Not that he deserves any.

The ending was like a perfect summary to the book. It felt like everything that had happened had boiled and bubbled until it finally exploded (… hehe) at the end. It packed one hell of a punch and has me wondering how things are going to continue from there. Teddie has a lot to process and I’m not sure how she’s going to work through everything. I know she’s strong but damn, everyone has limits. I can’t help but wonder if she’s going to break in the final installment, and what will happen if she does.

A dark, twisted journey with plenty of intrigue to keep your pages turning!
EVO Shift is the second book in the EVO Nation series. Teddie is back with her heart crushed, life altered, and an entire world against her. In the first book we learned that Teddie was gifted, more so than others, and her gifts were what immediately set her apart from the many other EVOs in existence, but it also made her a sought after embodiment of what they stood for.
In EVO Shift, Teddie (Theyda) is once more faced with obstacles that had me physically cringing as I read. The torture and brutality is palpable in this addition to the series. Yet, Teddie is stronger. Harder. A total badass leader.
K.J. Chapman weaves a very intriguing tale of new groups—one referred to as Shift and the other the Syndicate—and these very different yet similar groups of EVOs help Teddie attempt to shift the world view of what EVOs—those with abilities—are and that they are not, in fact, dangerous.
K.J. Chapman delivers a dark, intense story that will make you shudder, make you laugh, make you wonder if this was truly something our government would be capable of should this be the reality we faced. I know that during my read, I literally had a hard time putting the book down—even when I wanted to with some of the rather intense, torturous scenes that K.J. Chapman weaves a little too well.
However, at the end of my read, I knew one thing—I can’t wait to read the third book. I want to see Teddie kick some more ass. I want to see her grow further into her powers and abilities. I want to know exactly how she moves forward. So you bet I’ll be waiting patiently for book three. Okay, maybe not patiently, but I don’t really have a choice.

(I was given this as an ARC in return for an honest and fair review)

This book has stepped up a notch from book one! Absolutely brilliant world building in a fall of normal society. The characters are just as relatable- really rooted for them. Teddie went through the ringer in this book, and I can't wait to see what happens to her, and how the story will end in book three!

All I'm going to say is, I read EVO Nation (#1), then immediately tore through this book (#2), and can't wait to get into the next one.

Yep - that about sums it up.

Which PsyOps is in Charge Here?

So, good things to report since my review of the last EVO book by K. J. Chapman. Her writing has been cleaned up quite a bit, with fewer tense errors and wrong word choices. Which is a great thing because this story is really getting good.

Each EVO person is considered an evolved person due to a manifested psychic gift. There are Telekins who have the power of telekinesis. Pyrokins with the power to create fire. Chromokins can change their body to different colors, and on and on.

Theyda Woodman grows up thinking she's an average girl, one whose Father loved her but ultimately abandoned her. And a girl who was left with a bitter, mean drunk Mother, she'd rather not be around at all.

Theyda's world is turned upside down and back again when she discovers she has telekinesis and her Mother has been sedating her. The world is sharply divided between EVO and non-EVO, with the non-EVO people fearing the powers of the EVO so much they authorize extermination groups to accomplish their goals.

Unfortunately, by the end of book two, many of the people who have tried to right these wrongs have been murdered. Theyda has been tortured, almost to death, and her close friends now think she is dead.

What will become of the EVO Nation? Will the allies who fought alongside Theyda be able to keep going thinking she is gone? I guess we'll all have to wait until book three comes out to get our questions answered.

I love this series and I'm so glad I have had the opportunity to read it. Chapman continues to deliver with her very best. I think that her action scenes are absolutely impeccable, and this is from someone who tends to zone out in action scenes. There's a change-up in secondary characters, but you come to love them even at their worst. My only real complaint is the same from the first book. There were scenes I wish the story focused on more than others. By the end though, the story had me in tears. Chapman has created an enjoyable world and it's going to be torture waiting for EVO Ghost.
