In Brooke Scott's world, business comes before pleasure.

Brooke has been running her father's company for almost ten years. She's itching to take the reins for herself, but her father refuses to let her fully take charge until she's found herself a husband. She hates the idea, but he's as stubborn as they come, and she doesn't stand a chance of changing his mind. The problem is, there's no one who fits the bill… until she runs across her old flame, now a famous football star. Maybe, just maybe, he's the one.

All-American heartthrob Jake Hall is too busy enjoying the limelight to care about anything else.

But with a new owner determined to clean up the football team's bad boy image, Jake is under a lot of pressure to find a steady girl. He never wanted to be a role model, but it's the only way to stay in the owner's good graces. If he doesn't, he risks getting shipped right out of town. He's never been too picky when it comes to his girls – blond or brunette, curvy or slim – but when it comes to a life partner, he wants to make sure it's the perfect match.

But love doesn't follow the rules of the game.

A random encounter between Brooke and Jake sends them both hurtling down memory lane. They had a thing, once upon a time, but when it didn't work out, they went their separate ways. Now that the world has brought them back together, they might each be just what the other one is looking for.

What starts as a business arrangement quickly becomes a whole lot more, as Jake and Brooke rediscover the electricity dancing between them. But just when it seems like there is hope for a future together, tragedy strikes.

The question is, will they survive it?

At first few chapters, I felt that everything was too rushed that I was thinking, "ugh. I don't know if I want to even finish this."

Then at later chapters, the story started to grip my attention, and I liked reading the story of Brooke and Jake; their lives and their daily problems, etc. And although sometimes I felt disgust at the greed for power displayed by the main lady, I know that in reality, everyone would be as desperate as she was.

However, at about quarter to the end of the story, the pace started to speed again as if the author wanted to get it all done with ASAP. So, while the whole plot is interesting, the way it rushed to the end felt like someone just slapped the book to my face, then said; "Ha, done! Suck it!" before leaving me there, confused.

Meh. Jake never grabbed my attention. I could do or do without him, honestly. And Brooke's over-the-top greedy and power hungery character made her very dislikable. The pace is decent for what you're getting.

I loved how strong Brooke's character is portrayed. Thoroughly enjoyed Brooke not backing down to her father and fighting for what she wants!
Women can be powerful in the business world without a man, but it's also nice to have one like Jake!
Love how they reconnect after all those years and have the same mindset when it comes to business.
There chemistry in the bedroom was HOT.  So glad they get a second chance.
Another great book by Lexi Cross!

This book is a mess. It starts kind of normal, two people who used to know each other meet again, but now one of them needs a fake girlfriend, the other a fake husband, so they get together.

It's not a bad book, but I had problems with a few things:

At first, I had a hard time connecting to these characters and to this story. I wanted to give it a chance, so I kept reading this story, and before I realized it, I was immersed int the story and the lives of these people. I became invested in the characters and I found myself at the epilogue and their happy ending. At times while reading this book, I wanted to shake the characters for their being so pigheaded, but eventually they got it together. There were some sexual tension, fan-worthy sex scenes, and even a little intrigue. The writing was good and the characters slowly developed and became alive.

I like the style of writing. I haven't connected with the characters and and feel no chemistry for a couple that dated in high school. I had a tough time getting started it didn't reach out and grab me. I wasn't thrilled with cheating and deceit but shell it is fake and after football league makes way to much money. Still trying to connect with the story

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the story and the characters. The characters themselves had their annoying moments for me, but they and I got over it pretty quickly. The book itself is very well written. I can not wait to see what Lexi Cross comes out with next.

I really enjoyed this book! It took a little bit for me to get invested in the characters, but when I did it was a really good read. It had some really good sexy scenes and some intrigue. Go out and get it now!!

I'm not much of a sport romances, but I love a good second chance romance. This isn't one of my favorite books by this author, but an okay read.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The beginning of the story felt rushed. I also never fell in love with Jake.
