Question Mark

Rate this book
Mark finds an abandoned racehorse on the moor, and eventually persuades his
poor farming family to let him keep it. The mare is in foal, and Mark grows up with
the colt she produces. He becomes a steeplechaser. The horse brings the
community together, until he enters the Grand National. Be warned: the book does
not have an altogether happy ending.

A poor farmer boy on Dartmoor raises a young racehorse and aims him at steeplechasing.
This does not have a great ending so young people may be disappointed. Mainly it is a novel of changes and improvements in the farming community, and how meagrely people used to live. This was Smith's first horse book and later he wrote mainly for young people with some great stories.
