The Substitute Wife

The Substitute Wife - The Complete Series

Rate this book
The Substitute Wife is the unconventional love story of Hank and Austin Ford. With the exit of Austin’s trashy mother, Hank and Austin reach an agreement to stick together. For years, Austin loves Hank from so close yet so far away. Everything changes when Austin comes of age and Hank makes him an offer that the submissive boy is only too happy to accept. But is Austin only a substitute wife for Hank? Or is their love something bigger than they ever dreamed possible? Originally, told in three parts, this erotic romance is the #1 best seller that put Keegan Kennedy on the map. The Complete Series puts their story into a single book. Also, there is a brand new epilogue, concluding their story with a surprise twist. Everyone is back including Ms. Woaweesa, Tonya, as well as Coach Murdock and Rob Hill from the short ‘Dude, the Coach Wants to See You.’ This erotic romance contains inter-generational themes, dominance and submission. This compilation is 32,000 words.

Originally hailing from Mississippi, Keegan Kennedy is a writer based out of Memphis, TN. As a child, sometimes his active imagination was the only friend that he had. Following a degree in History from the University of Southern Mississippi, Keegan floated around the corporate while dreaming of telling stories. His first novellas were in the arena of male-for-male erotica and romance. His earlier efforts were soon followed by success when his novel, Homecoming, went to Number One in on the LGBT charts in four countries: Germany, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He has a knack for uncovering love and romance in the darkest of places. With a tendency toward the melodramatic, he does more than arouse or excite the reader - he engages them.

His current release is the epic novel: The Harbinger – a chilling, apocalyptic tale of survival that decimated stereotypes and shocked his fans. Upcoming works include – a TBA romance between two anti-heroes. And by popular demand, he is re-mastering his older novellas into his new anthology series, the cheekily-named: Smooth Jocks and Gruff Jocks.

"I want to sincerely thank all of my readers! Because of you, I have spoken to and made new friends from across the globe on every continent with the exception of Antarctica - to my knowledge. Your kind words and encouragement have meant the world to me. I answer all emails, so feel free to contact me."

A very overly simplistic romance of a boy getting his HEA with his step dad. M/M if you aren’t clear on that. I liked it. It’s short but an easy read. I can definitely get into this author. Enjoy.

Actually Austin is a new improved wife model.

Life is always surprising with unexpected events and unusual complications. Everyone needs family and friends for support, but what if family is the problem?

Austin's mother is a total disaster area in motion. His step father is great, but his mother is destroying her husband. Yet, when she leaves with a trucker, everything changes and life gets better.

Success in business for Hank and his marriage to Austin makes life better and happier for both. Angie returns on Austin's 19th birthday with demands to be welcomed back home as family. But her tricks and schemes do not work.

The next word from Angie is not from her directly, but about her situation. It causes Hank and Austin to rush to a Des Moines hospital where everything changes as most family members get their wishes and a special gift.

Not really sure on how to rate this one. Not an original storyline.

Reading the first chapter of this series reminded me of another book in the same genre. I really hate books like that. It was so freaky that I wanted to stop reading but I stuck it out. Not that bad for a DNF.

I enjoyed reading this story despite the few things that made me feel uncomfortable. I'm the type of reader that I put myself in the character's shoes, so in a way, I can experience mentally what they are living. The characters had their own unique dynamic as partners and had their cute moments. I liked that Hank waited for Austin, and didn't cheat on her wife (physically) while they were together despite the attraction that he felt toward Austin, a 13 yrs boy. It was a bit disturbing reading about his pedophilic feelings toward the boy but at least he didn't act toward those feelings, not even when his wife left. Also, I liked how he was straightforward with Austin regarding what he wanted and what he expected of their relationship. I loved that he gave A. his last name, and also, took care of his future in case something happen to him. That is how a responsible man acts toward his partner when he doesn't want his partner to work outside. I took delight in how Austin was toward his husband, how caring, passionate, and responsible toward his house chores. What a sweet young man! It was awesome to read the short interactions with them and their neighbor.

So, why I gave three stars if I liked certain characters' traits and I enjoyed reading the novel? Due to their sexual interactions. Maybe the author wanted to be different and that is why he wrote scenes like that, but as a reader that experiences mentally what the characters are living, it was awful reading the first time they had sex. Anal sex is pleasurable, if the person is experiencing pain is because the other isn't doing something well. It was as if Austin was raped. Hank didn't stretch well the boy, didn't use enough lube, he just went to the hilt as if were a wet vagina. The boy was in deep pain and instead of stopping until he got used to his size or at least going slow, nooooo he kept going and going. Why subject a sweet character to that horrible feeling? I just couldn't help to think, if this happens in reality, the button's esfinter will be injured and if we take into consideration that he took Austin like that every day, the damage would be permanent. Well, this is fiction. Anyway, a good "Dom" doesn't act in that way. Another thing that I dislike is that Autin could cum just in two scenes, the others I felt like he was treated as semen trash. I felt like the majority of the sex scenes were in rush, Hank thinking more about his own pleasure though at least he rimmed the boy and used dirty talk which helped their sex interaction, those things were hot.

I won't mention other elements because other readers pointed them such as the repetition.

Well, I couldn't give 5 stars but this story has potential which makes me feel motivated to read other stories by this author.

A Satisfying Same Sex Magic Carpet Ride

How could anyone NOT award this "box of chocolates" book with a high rating? The dark segments are all resolved in the next few pages...all written by Keegan Kennedy to engage the reader in his magic carpet ride novel. My fantasies were fleshed out enough that I could suspend my literary critic and opine:" Yea, I can see this happening to me and the people I know. And DAMN, it feels good! There are many reasons why I read LGBT erotica. "The Substitute Wife" included all of them.

Repetitive

This book repeats the same words and scenes over the entire book, the mother in the book just didn’t seem to fit with the story lines very well either.

Better than I expected to be honest. What they both feel are love not just merely lust. Too bad Austin won't continue his education though.

An unexpected enjoyable read. The characters complimented each other with their bond and helped each other to become more whole and complete.

I usually like this type of book but that one was such a mess... For such a short book i think the author took too longo to end the story.

It saddens me to give one of Keegan Kennedy's books a two-star rating, much less one of his only series, but "The Good Wife" and I simply didn't hit it off. It's not that this wasn't my thing, kink-wise -- Dominant daddy claiming his step-son as a wife in permanent sexual servitude? Boy is it ever my thing! -- but it seems to lack the spark and raunchy passion of his other novellas. Could it be that Hank and Austin are so...fluffy and gooey with each other, even as they indulge in the wildest roughest sex, that it robs the fantasy of the heat it needs? I'm totally paraphrasing here and probably doing a bad job of it, but dialogue like...

"I'm gonna tie you up and fuck you boy!"
"Oh yes daddy that's what I want, I love you so much!"

...kinda just sends mixed signals to my libido and makes me roll my eyes to boot. Also, whoever gave Kennedy the idea that he needed to fill his stories with bible-thumping strawmen or shrill manipulative hens with an obsession with exclamation marks to add artificial tension to these books needs a slap upside the head. These aren't the only books where Kennedy has this stuff but they're basically the most egregious instances of it; that kinda heavy-handed stuff is not what I read these stories for so if you're gonna have that, then you better do it perfectly, and sadly that's really not what happens here.

Man's wet dream.
That was the worst story I read in years, but I had fun shitting on it with my bestie so it deserves 1 star. If I could I would rate it 0,5 star, honestly.
Spoilers ahead.

Austin's plans for his birthday were cleaning Hank's shoes? Good lord...
Hank puts up a lamp from mosquitoes? What a handyman, praise him! What Austin would do without him? (Austin literally said it)
Hank buys cake and pack of beer on Austin's birthday? Oh my, he put so much effort, praise him more!
Austin's only role is to serve and praise Hank for... bare minimum? For just existing?
Other couple in story purposefully made dumb as rock so Hank could give them basic advice and be praised again. Austin's mother made fat and unattractive so readers could tell she is evil bitch. Oh, and Hank gave her 50$ for food so praise him more.

Total PWP folks. Stepfather puts the moves on willing boy right after his eighteenth birthday. They marry and live in a salacious happy ever after with just a few bumps in the road. There's way too much repetition in each new chapter set-up.

Overall, it was quite enjoyable, being quite kinky and full of suspense. It explores a dreamy sub/dom dynamic and features a lovely theme of love. The only issue was that the writing occasionally felt repetitive.

I really, really liked this series!
But do beware, this is NOT for everyone. It runs on the very thin line of taboo.
Smut~ but of the good kind (I think) lol...
A Fun read! :D
