I found this book many years ago - probably a year after it published - in the stacks of a college campus library I was invading. Hands down the best painting into background work I've ever seen. This book more or less set the benchmark for what I considered top-notch artistry.

Review edited to add: 28 years later, finally managed to afford a physical copy again, and it's still utterly wonderful.

Always worth the full re-read. Oxydation still borks my brain in good ways.

One of the most incredible pieces of art I have ever witnessed...very hard to find used, impossible to find new, but worth every penny. This is a coffee table book that you'll never put away and always show to guests.
