MONARCHS by Alex Chu

MONARCHS is a suspenseful and surprising thriller, set primarily in New Jersey and New York City, with a side venture to modern Shanghai. A disgruntled worn-out call center rep receives a bizarre spam email, offering to fulfill his wildest dreams of wealth and status--in return for a human sacrifice. Arriving at his down point, the offer is neither faux nor fraudulent, catapulting Logan into an entirely new realm of possibilities. But the "one" sacrifice is never sufficient--until Logan's dilemma magnifies, and he crashes and burns. From that point, the thriller becomes more of a self-help exposition, as Logan determines to take charge of his own life.

I won this novel in a goodreads drawing.

A guy in a dead end job receives an email to join an organization that promises great wealth and power. The only catch is that to join he has to murder somebody. He complies with this initiation, and surges up the ladder of wealth and fame.

From there it's all pretty predictable.

I felt like this was a pretty shallow work, that left a lot of possibilities unexplored.

If you only read one book/ebook this year make it Monarchs by Alex Chu! A thrilling rollercoaster ride of emotions and intrigue starting at page one!

What is your price? Do you have a number in mind, maybe a wish you want filled, perhaps it's power you dream of, adventure, true love? Everyone has a price, but what would you do to see all your hearts desires be fulfilled? Would you be willing to lie, cheat, steal; would you commit murder?

The story revolves around Logan Weidman. Logan is a simple cubicle dweller waking everyday with little other purpose then to slave for the allmighty dollar. It is no wonder why he would dismiss the promises of wealth and power showing up without provocation in his inbox, but every man has a weak spot. It isn't long before Logan, enduring life as rolled downhill, succumbs to temptation.

A chance meeting, if you believe in such things, begins the snowball that Logan tried to avoid by not sending what he was sure was SPAM a reply. It didn't matter, nothing mattered, as soon as Logan uttered the words, "I wanna be a Monarch. Make me a Monarch!" From the moment the words escaped his lips, Logan's life would never be the same, hell it wouldn't ever be his own, again!

This story is very original, and unlike other novels in the same genre, you won't feel the ending fails you. Get ready to delve deep into Alex Chu's characters as you read this book; they are well written and full of complicated thought making them easy to love, hate, laugh, and cry with and about. Logan may start as a broken man with squandered potential, but through his life choices and challenges the story and it's characters move to a new place and purpose.

** I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review **

We have all see the kind of emails promising you great wealth in exchange for just your bank account details. When Logan Weidman receives such an email but the price being a sacrifice – what would you do?

Logan is the slave to the wage in a call centre where he was pipped to the post by a college for a management job – now said college has decided to take away all the staff bonus making everyone’s wage pretty much non-existent. He received the email which couldn’t have come at a better time for Logan. but the price being a sacrifice has him not believing a word it says. He is sure it is just SPAM mail, but when out with some of his work colleges he “meets” people who claim to be Monarchs, whether this was a chance meeting or not he has enough to drink to utter the words “Make me a Monarch”

From that moment on his life changes – for the better? Perhaps, he does get the promotion and then fast forward a few years is director. But one thing that is clear is that Logan’s life is no longer his own.

This was a great read and I loved whole concept of the Ring of Monarchs, if you are looking for something to get you hooked from the start then this is the book for you.
