In most of my writing I like to look for the extraordinary in the ordinary, maybe even a little magic. Then I add a dash of humor, because life shouldn’t be so serious ( Although I do enjoy throwing in the horrific, or heavily sarcastic, villian now and again, because that’s just fun). I live in Pennsylvania with the love of my life, and wildly imaginative twin daughters.
Want to do something just for yourself while supporting the World Wildlife Fund? The proceeds from Moon, Mist and Magic are generously being donated by these five fabulous authors who have come together to spread the magic of love with their talent!
What the world needs more of is LOVE and Abigail Owen, J.C. McKenzie, L.A. Kelley, Sharon Saracino and Maureen L. Bonatch are here to bring a little paranormal love straight to your heart! Five brief love stories, each with their own special taste of romantic torture and bliss that will make you just short of seeing dragons, ghosts, demons and more flying high above a romantic heart formation. Okay, maybe that was too much…but you will feel like love is in the air!
Imagine being part of a family with the gift to communicate with ghosts. Josie was used to seeing them, until their pleas to be heard got to be too much and she built a wall to keep them out. When her brother’s ghost breaks through and calls for help, she must go to his best friend, the one man who crushed her heart years before. Their hearts don’t stand A Ghost of a Chance against love. Great job once again, Abigail Owen!
Bodyguard/mage Lara has a secret and only her dragon knows what it is, so when she was hired to play the pseudo-girlfriend for the BIG dragon ruler, himself, who else could do such a tale justice than J.C. McKenzie? Dangerous Dreams is filled with humor from Lara’s inner dialogue, heat from the magical chemistry between herself and Rafael and evidence of how far a woman scorned will go. Hot enough to grill a steak!
Want a Hawaiian Punch? Check out L.A. Kelley’s Myths and legends 101 as a down on his luck academic learns there really are things like demons and his Hawaiian demon hunting student is more than just a sweet old man with a beautiful granddaughter. Jim is about to discover there is more to life than the material things and love makes life magical. Sweet enough to satisfy the romantic in everyone.
Sharon Saracino steps up with The Keeper, Medical Examiner, Olivia Duncan is used to seeing dead bodies on her operating table, even supernatural ones, but this one smells of vampire, not good for a woman with a secret she is loath to reveal. When the mysterious Nick shows up, a man with a hidden agenda, once again the chemistry of romance and love muddy the waters of duty and sworn oaths. What must Olivia do to keep both herself and those she has learned to care for safe? Can there be a happy ending? The perfect escape from reality!
A chance to set things right, a chance to show you are not the bullied little girl anymore and a chance for love to cast its spell. Maureen L. Bonatch brews up Witch You Were Here and gives Lucy and Shane a chance to clear the painful waters of the past, but will the hex Lucy placed on Shane be too powerful to break, leaving them still hurting or will love create its own potion for these two?

Independent reviewer for Romance Authors That Rock. This is a collection of five books, written by five different authors. I've enjoyed reading this collection. If I had to choose a favorite it would be MYTHS & LEGENDS 101.
A GHOST OF A CHANCE A Legendary Consultants Story By Abigail Owen I give this short story 5 stars. Nice sweet story very G rated. Josie can see ghosts. Bad thing is now she sees her brother. The only one that can help her is Bryce. Will he believe her that her brother needs help, are will she have to tell him the truth about her family? Bryce has loved Josie for the last six years. He was surprised when she showed up at his door asking for help. He didn't believe her. Fearing that she would go after her brother by herself he decides to help her anyway. Great story about loving someone from afar and finally getting the chance with that person. HEA
DANGEROUS DREAMS An Obsidian Flame Prequel By J.C. McKenzie I give this short story 4 stars. Rafael, a dragon shifter, needs protection. So he hired Lara to do the job. Lara is to pretend to be his new girlfriend. Can Lara protect him from herself? She has secrets and if he finds out, her life will change. Sorry to say this book ended in a cliffhanger. You will have to read the next book to get the end of the story. NO HEA. (not yet lol). I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
MYTHS & LEGENDS 101 By L.A. Kelley I give this short story 5 stars. Jim loves his Aunt Helen but she keeps bugging him about his love life. He knows she just wants to see him happy. But he has a crappy car, no money, and student loans. What woman would want him? Jim is a professor at the local collage. He teaches Myths & Legends. One of his students, an elderly Asian gentleman, walks up to him after class to talk about the assignment that was given out. I loved how the relationship between Jim and Mr. Yamada progressed. Did Jim take on more than he could handle? This story is fast paced and I loved it.
THE KEEPER By Sharon Saracino I give this short story 5 stars Olivia Duncan is the coroner for Cedar Creek. She knows there are shifters in Cedar Creek. But keeping her secret is killing her. Now she has a leopard shifter that has silver poisoning on her exam table. With the smell of Vampire coming from him. She's afraid her secret is out. Can she protect the ones she loves? Including herself? I can see lots of stories coming from this, all around Olivia. I would read them.
WITCH YOU WERE HERE A Just My Type Series Story By Maureen L. Bonatch I would give this short story 5 stars. Shane is desperate he believes he is cursed. He hires a company of witches. With his history with witches he is reluctant to hire one, even though he is desperate. Lucy is not the bullied teenager anymore. It's now ten years later and she's a successful business owner. Her company was hired to do a job. When she noticed it was someone she knew so she took the job herself. I loved this book. Have you ever thought what life would be like if you and your highschool crush were together? This book let's you dream just for a little bit. I think the author could write more books all involving the employees working for Lucy.
I have enjoyed this collection of books/authors looking forward to reading more from them in the future. Over all I give the complete book 5 BIG stars.
An amazing collection of paranormal, romance novellas by award-winning writers filled with humor, suspense and surprising plot twists. Reading this anthology is like going to a really good smorgasbord and not knowing where to start. Each piece is perfectly crafted to entertain you and leave you smiling. A Ghost of a Chance by Abigail Owen Josie is a young woman with a problem. Her brother’s ghost tells her he needs help and the only person who can help is his best friend Bryce, who Josie has avoided for years because of her their heart-breaking past. Owen pulled me into this story on the first page. Her characters are engaging, the plot surprising, and the writing beautiful. I can’t wait to read the next book about these characters. Dangerous Dreams (an Obsidian Flame Prequel) by J.C. McKenzie With her trademark, wicked sense of humor, sexy romance and strong heroine J.C. McKenzie knocks this novella out of the park, or I guess I should say dragon’s kingdom. It’s a first taste of her new series that left me hungry for more. Rafael Dragoi, the big, bad Astarot of the Obsidian dragons hires Lara to protect him, not knowing that she herself is a dragon. Secrets and magic abound in this story. The inner-dialogue between Lara and her dragon had me laughing out loud. A true delight. Myths and Legends 101 by L.A. Kelley A demon and a lovable Hawaiian demon hunter propel this story of a mild-mannered academic, Jim who discovers there is more to life than what you see and that love is part of that. A fun paranormal romance. And that’s not all. There are two more great stories: The Keeper by Sharon Saracino and Witch You Were Here by Maureen L. Bonatch. I strongly recommend this anthology to anyone who likes paranormal romance. It’s amazing.
I absolutely loved this collection of paranormal stories. Each was unique and had something individual and special to offer...something for everyone's paranormal tastes. From witches to ghosts to shifters and demons, this has it all. All are very well written with fully developed plots and wonderful romance within the short stories. Only warning...they'll leave you wanting more.
(review request submitted by the authors for an honest critique)
If you enjoy stories of the paranormal persuasion, then you'll be pleased with your purchase of "Moon, Mist, & Magic". First of all, you get five (5) short stories by five (5) talented writers for about a dollar (kindle price). That's truly a bargain! Second, you will be treated to a variety of supernatural beings including ghosts, witches, shifters, demons, vampire so you'll definitely find something or someone you like. Probably more than one. :) Really, I can't imagine anyone not finding at least one short story they didn't enjoy. For me, I found some stories sticking out in my mind more than others.
Let me break each down for you.
1) A Ghost of a Chance by Abigail Owen: Ok, I will admit on several occasions I found myself whispering, "I see dead people." You all know the popular phrase and if you don't you MUST WATCH The Sixth Sense (1999). It's an amazing, spooky movie and one worth watching at least twice. Like the movie, I found myself wondering what would I do if I could see "dead people" and how life would be for myself and for my love ones. Josie became closed off to the world. Not an uncommon or unfathomed reason to her gift. But, I like how Abigail demonstrated the usefulness of the gift and set us up for more ghostly adventures.
2.) Dangerous Dreams by J.C. McKenzie: I love dragon shifters and wish I read more tales involving them. They are magical, majestic creatures who possess great power and command respect. And in this tale, we find out they are very horny too. There wasn't any explicit sex scenes but you could feel their sexual nature through heated words and body language. In most cases, the promise of what to come is HOTTER than reading the actual "deed". (There love story concludes with "to be continued")
3.) Myths and Legends 101, by L.A. Kelley: Out of the five paranormal tales, I found this story the least memorable. Yes, it had a nice twist when they finally met and battled the obake (succubus). I did cackle at Dickenson's reaction to "it" because he was a d!ck and d!cks need to be taken down a notch or two. However, everything leading up to the explosive ending was just blah. It didn't wow me, Jim and Keilana didn't impress me, and whom the obake targeted/possessed didn't surprise me at all.
4.) The Keeper, by Sharon Saracino: Leopard shifters, a gryphon who resembles a Greek god, werewolf, a vamp, and a couple other surprise shifters. My, oh my, how I loved this story. Why? Because I didn't expect Olivia to be a ............ Oh, I am not going to tell you. I will say she's something very special and not "something" I've read about in a long while. Bravo Sharon!!
5.) Witch You Were Here, by Maureen L. Bonatch: Crossing a witch is never a wise choice. Teasing a witch in high school is doubly stupid because they can't control their emotions, say things they might regret and YOU might get a magical tattoo right on your tight little tushy. Oh yeah, that's what happened to Shane. Hilarious idea and a great ending tale to a wonderful collection of stories.
Ghosts, Demons, Witches and Shape Shifters make a great Halloween read!
Moon, Mist & Magic is a wonderful collection of paranormal stories. Each had something unique to offer. Shifters, witches, ghosts and demons, yep all were accounted for and very well written. They'll leave you wanting more. I bought this for a Halloween read. Loved it! I never know how to rate an anthology. So I decided to break it down by story.
A Ghost of a Chance by Abigail Owen - Stars - 5 I love a good ghost story and I really enjoyed this one. I laughed several times when Josie talked to her brother's ghost while trying to hide doing it from Bryce. I sighed as Josie finally trusted Bryce enough to spill the beans.
Dangerous Dreams, by J.C. McKenzie - Stars - 5 There be dragons here! I love dragons and I loved this story! Lara intrigued me by hiding her dragon nature and the mystery surrounding her. Raf and his dragon, plus the twist and the secret will have you begging for more.
Myths and Legends 101, by L.A. Kelley- Stars – 4 This books had twists that I didn’t see coming, which is unusual for me. LA Kelley is a new author to me. The predicament Jim finds himself makes the story, I think. But I loved Toshi, he was entertaining. Made me laugh. The ancient evil caught me by surprise. But all’s well that ends well. Right?
The Keeper, by Sharon Saracino - Stars – 4.5 Another new author for me. I enjoyed her fun story. There were so many secrets, and unexpected agendas it kept you guessing. I liked that. Olivia, well, my lips are zipped on that one. As with most short stories, I wanted more and you will too.
Witch You Were Here, by Maureen L. Bonatch - Stars – 4 Another fun one filled with regrets and redemption. Lucy is high-spirited. Shane was iffy but ok by the end. High school years are tough, revisiting the history later in life is no fun. Will they come clean and work it out? I’m not telling but there is a great HEA ending. Read it to find out the secrets. LOL
Over all I highly recommend this collection of stories!
It is almost rare to enjoy each story in an anthology, but this one pulled it off nicely and did just that.
Dangerous Dreams by J.C. McKenzie: I'm already familiar with J.C. McKenzie and her awesome Carus series so her short story was great. I was sad to learn there was only one more Carus book, but soooo happy to see there is a new series coming. One of the things I really liked was how her characters have conversations, sometimes very funny ones, with their alter-egos/shifter animals. I'm really looking forward to this new series and curious to see how Lara and Rafael are going to dance around each other. Lara seems to have the right touch of snarky like Andrea does in the Carus series. A Ghost of a Chance by Abigail Owen: I have only read one other book by the author but I loved it. Her Demigod Complex: In Love With Her Demigod Billionaire Boss, yes it has a billionaire, yes it has him and his PA interested in each other, but it is so ... cute and well-done. After reading this story, and the one book I read before, I'm curious to read other books set in the world of Legendary Consultants. It was light-hearted, had the right touch of humor, and the right amount of everything else. It is sometimes hard to write a short story and have it still be a robust and satisfactory read. The Keeper, by Sharon Saracino: This story had a few things that I like to read in stories. A smart ME, a hint of a mythological/paranormal world, and awesome shifters. I kinda had a hint of what Olivia shifted into so the added bonus of the mythology and ancestry behind what she was was a nice touch. Oh, and so was Nick~ I will say though that I felt like there might be more to Olivia's story ... or maybe it was wishful thinking? Who knows~ Myths and Legends 101, by L.A. Kelley: This was a cute story, not my favorite of the bunch, but I still enjoyed it. Maybe it didn't have as much of the paranormal aspect for me that the other stories did. It kinda read like a scary story or an urban legend.
A Ghost of a Chance, by Abigail Owen: I was given this anthology by this author to review this story. I really enjoyed the history between Bryce and Josie and the complications of her pyschic gift. The banter and wit, especially concerning Josie's brother was great. Though the ending was abrupt, I liked the story. My rating: B Please click on the link to the full review by myself and my review partner, Gikany, posted at That's What I'm Talking About blog: http://twimom227.com/2017/01/review-t...
Dangerous Dreams, by J.C. McKenzie: I found Lara and Rafael's story interesting. Though how Rafael missed who and what Lara is was a bit funny considering all his power. But it did make the story a bit endearing and humorous. I enjoyed this story, the mythology was interesting and the plot flowed well. My rating: A-
Myths and Legends 101, by L.A. Kelley: This was a really great story with a classic ghost story feel. I really enjoyed the flow and the characters. Jim's attraction to Keilana, her grandfather, Toshi's meddling and wit, the creepiness of the ancient evil and Keilani's jerk of a boyfriend all wove together to be a fascinating and gripping story. I really loved this one and was my favorite in the collection. My rating: A+
The Keeper, by Sharon Saracino: I really enjoyed this story. The world was fascinating as was the mystery surrounding Olivia. The mythology was intriguing and I enjoyed how the story played out. Nick's warring loyalties was compelling. My rating: A
Witch You Were Here, by Maureen L. Bonatch: This was a bit of a lighthearted story. I liked that Lucy and Shane had a history - one of animosity that was based on one-sided perspectives. I enjoyed how the story played out and the thought that broken hearts can mend. My rating: B
A fantastic anthology, “Moon, Mist, & Magic” contains short stories and prequel novellas giving a glimpse into the writing and worlds of these authors.
Anthologies are great ways to discover new authors. Normally I find there is usually one author in the list that is the reason why I pick it up. In this case, the reason why I picked up Moon, Mist & Magic was because of Sharon Saracino. However, now that I finished I find myself wanting to read more of the other authors.
A Ghost of a Chance by Abigail Owen Stars - 4 Normally I am not a ghost story fan but in this case, I really enjoyed this story. Josie was quite the treat and I found myself giggling a few times as she spoke to her brother's ghost while trying to not make it obvious to Bryce. As short as this story is, I still felt myself captivated as Josie finally trust Bryce to tell them the truth. The story ends on a happy note with just enough tease of more to come and enticing enough that I want more.
Dangerous Dreams, by J.C. McKenzie Stars - 4.5 Dragons? Did you say dragons! I love dragons and I loved this story! I'm very intrigued by Lara. Why is she hiding her dragon nature? There's quite the mystery surrounding her. Raf and his dragon, honestly I don't know who I liked more. The twist and secret in the story leave me begging for more when it ends on quite the cliffy. What? No! What happens to Lara and Raf? I need more! Consider yourself warned.
Myths and Legends 101, by L.A. Kelley Stars - 3.5 Such a cute, fun story. You can’t help but like Jim. The predicament he finds himself in made for a good read. However, for me the true star of the story was Toshi. His antics and commentaries had me giggling. The ancient evil, not what I expected. There were a few added twists that I didn’t see coming and everything ends on a happy note.
The Keeper, by Sharon Saracino Stars - 4 ACK! This one’s a toughie because there are some many secrets to be discovered. Lips are sealed on this one but Olivia’s secret is quite the doozy! The secrets, the unexpected agendas, and how everything played out was simply delightful but has me wishing the story were longer. There’s a nice HEA for almost everybody, and who doesn’t get theirs…too freaking bad!
Witch You Were Here, by Maureen L. Bonatch Stars – 3.5 Another fun one filled with past regrets and making wrongs right. Lucy is quite the sassy one. Shane I didn’t care for at first but by the end, I adored. High school years are not always what they are cracked up to be and these two have some share history to overcome. Their working out their issues and revealing their secrets made for a nice story. Great ending with a HEA that had me smiling.
I received this book from the JeepDiva for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine. Stars – 4, Flames – 1
In MOON, MIST AND MAGIC, readers will find that no matter what their paranormal taste might be it is here. There are dragonshifters, psychics who see and speak to ghosts, demons, vampires and witches ... oh my! A little bit of something for everyone!
In MOON, MIST AND MAGIC readers will find: A Ghost of a Chance, by Abigail Owen (this is from Ms. Owen's "Legendary Consultants" series); Dangerous Dreams, by J.C. McKenzie (an "Obsidian Flame" prequel); Myths and Legends 101, by L.A. Kelley; The Keeper, by Sharon Saracino; Witch You Were Here, by Maureen L. Bonatch.
All of these stories were interesting and well written. Though I feel I have to offer a word of warning about Dangerous Dreams. It says in the book that it is a prequel and this story ends with a lead in to a future book but I am not sure when that one will be available.
I am a fan of Ms. Owen and Ms. McKenzie and though I admit that I have not read the other authors writings before, these intriguing tastes will have me looking into their work in the future. That is what is so great about reading anthologies ... you get short stories from favorite authors and a taste that will lead you to finding new authors to follow.
Anthologies are a great way to check out authors that you haven't read before and this one is a wonderful example. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys short stories or wants to check out some authors they haven't read before.
A Ghost of a Chance by Owens is part of a series, but can be fully enjoyed as a stand-alone. This was a great story and my favorite of the anthology!
Dangerous Dreams by McKenzie I loved this story, right up until the end. I was very disappointed that it wasn't a complete story and ended with a cliffhanger. I wish writers would warn the reader in advance so they aren't taken by surprise. As far as I know, the ending of their story isn't even available yet.
Myths and Legends 101 by Kelley This was a very enjoyable story and had some funny moments.
The Keeper by Saracino This story kept me guessing and moved along pretty fast.
Witch You Were Here by Bonatch This was a very quick read and had some humor and surprises.
Thoroughly enjoyed the stories in the anthology. They were unique and stirred my imagination. Loved the romance, humor, conflicts, and paranormal elements. All five authors did a fantastic job and I'm going to add them to my reading list.
I loved "A Ghost of a Chance" (5 stars), "Dangerous Dreams" (4 stars, as punishment for the cliffhanger and because the sequel is not yet available) and "The Keeper" (5 stars). The writing was good and the stories were interesting. I will definitely follow these authors to see what more they have to offer ...
"Myths & Legends 101" (3 stars) and "Witch you were here" (2 stars) did not really tickle my fancy, though. "Myths" was slightly boring and I did not care much for the MC. But I liked Aunt Helen and Toshi, and the writing was o.k. In contrast, the jumpy writing of "Witch" irritated me to no end: was there no editing? I had to read some sentences two or three times to grasp the meaning - but maybe that is just the style of the author? Besides, I did not care for the MCs or their story one bit, even though the concept was quite promising.
Overall, however, it is a very nice collection and, as usual, I came home with more authors to follow and a longer TBR list (something that happens to me with almost every anthology I read)!
