The Book of Proverbs, "Proverbs (of Solomon)") is the second book of the third section (called Writings) of the Hebrew Bible and a book of the Christian Old Testament. When translated into Greek and Latin, the title took on different forms: in the Greek Septuagint (LXX) it became Paroimiai ("Proverbs"); in the Latin Vulgate the title was Proverbia, from which the English name is derived.
Proverbs is not merely an anthology but a "collection of collections" relating to a pattern of life which lasted for more than a millennium. It is an example of the Biblical wisdom tradition, and raises questions of values, moral behavior, the meaning of human life, and right conduct. The repeated theme is that "the fear of God (meaning submission to the will of God) is the beginning of wisdom". Wisdom is praised for her role in creation; God acquired her before all else, and through her he gave order to chaos; and since humans have life and prosperity by conforming to the order of creation, seeking wisdom is the essence and goal of the religious life.

If everyone read and applied every proverb in this book, life would be a much more wonderful place. Seriously. This book is full of nuggets of truth upon which to build your life. It applies to almost everything you can think of. Every time I read this (and I’ve read it probably a hundred times) I’m blown away by the wisdom and truth of it... Read Proverbs. Frequently. Then live out Proverbs. Constantly.
The poetry is great. As the word of God it's great and there is much wisdom and common sense in it especially when it was written. If you apply Universal ethics and or modern ideas there are interesting things which might need thinking about. It's attitude to women/ wives is questionable and beating children and servants does not fit -on the face of it - with modern psychology or views on child abuse.
As a young boy my father regular read these with us and they absolutely shaped my outlook and life. We are trying to focus on them with our own children as well (in addition to regular, sequential Bible reading) and hope to go through this book carefully and thoughtfully many times and apply these words of wisdom to our lives. They are crucial to living in this world.
I did not read this book or the KJV - but I have been reading proverbs nonstop since starting my new job. Must have read it 5-6 times by now. Just trying to let it sink in.
The Book of Proverbs has tons of wisdom and many verses on how to live a Christlike life. I think this is my 6th re read of this book in the Bible and the same with psalms

9:8 "Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee; rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee."
10:16 "The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin."
15:16 "Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith."
15:23 "A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!"
