When Annie Richards finds a dead man floating in her pond, she knows it could be the kiss of death for her brand new business. After all, who's going to stay at a B&B where finding dead bodies seems to be an everyday happening? Surprisingly, Annie's eccentric guests are quite happy to stay, though one of them has an ulterior motive for remaining at the historic plantation-turned-cozy-inn. One of Annie's guests is a cold-blooded killer, but neither Annie nor the police can seem to surmise exactly who wanted conman Lou Ross dead. Two of her guests were victims of a con artist prior to visiting her inn--could they have had something to do with the dead man? Is the pretty young actress as innocent as she seem? Does the strange Mr. George have anything to do with the dead man's past? Can Marie, the self-proclaimed medium, really communicate with the dead man to find out who killed him? And can Annie lure the killer out using a mysterious package that belonged to the dead man, or is she putting her guests' lives at risk by letting them stay? Annie's willing to risk her own life to stop a killer, but is she risking the lives of everyone around her, too? Corpses & Conmen is the second book in the Rosewood Place Mysteries--read the first book, Bodies & Buried Secrets, to find out how Annie came to Rosewood Place plantation and find out how she almost lost her life trying to uncover its secrets...
Ruby Blaylock (aka Jessica B. Woods) grew up in a small, southern town surrounded by colorful characters and lots of food. She loves a good helping of gossip and great food, not necessarily in that order. She is a country girl at heart and can often be found sitting on the back porch, sipping sweet tea and watching her fat hound dogs chase bugs.
If she's not reading a book, she's writing one, or reading one to her kids, who can always help her think up new ways to kill off annoying characters.
This is the third Ruby Blaylock book that I have read. The first was given to me as an ARC, but I liked it so much I went back to the beginning and bought all the rest. I thoroughly enjoy the characters in this series and even all the murders that keep happening make for a great series. Loving them.
Ruby is a very diverse writer. Corpses and Conmen. Is in a class of its own. I've read a few of her books and this one was as good as the others, tho' I did figure out who the murderer was pretty easily. Her other books not so much. Great night time read. Keep up the good work. Cheers Lynn 🇨🇦
I received the book free in return for an honest review. Another good book by Ruby Blaylock. Annie finally gets her B&B open for guests. When the first guests arrive there are a few odd guests. Then there is a dead body found and then everyone is a possible suspect. Some of the guests could have a motive because the dead person is not such a good person to start with. It really keeps you guessing on Who could have done it. This is one of those books you just don’t want to put down. Ruby did a great job on all her characters. I cannot wait for the next book to come out. I also love the country setting of this series.
Annie and Bessie's B&B does lunch and dinner too! No wonder they are so tired all of the time. One of the guests failed to show up until a day late and as a corpse. It seems he was a con man who had ripped off a number of people, but whether a victim, partner or other person killed him is the cozy mystery of this story. The B&B is also starting to become a menagerie as Devon now has a puppy and Bessie has chickens. This is a cute, warm family kind of series, despite the murders.
I enjoyed this story almost as the previous one. I figured out the villain early but wanted to know how the story would unfold. I enjoy reading about the characters and seeing how there relationships develop. I look forward to the next book in this series.
