With release day (4/5) drawing nearer, I thought I would share my thoughts on Radio, my third book baby. It is perhaps the most difficult project I have ever worked on. I was blown away by the overwhelmingly positive reaction to Vinyl, and am grateful every day for my incredible readers. That being said, when you HAVE readers, people who care about your characters as much as you do, it adds a whole new level of pressure! I hope I have done them justice. I hope you enjoy the next chapter in the story of Ronja and the Anthemites. It went in a direction I never could have predicted, so much so that it almost swaps genres. Eeek...I should be quiet, now! May your song guide you home, my lovely readers.

Sophia, you did it again!
Radio.
This book was the sequel to Vinyl I was hoping for. I got sucked into this world again and it made me want to re-read the first book instantly.
Do you know this, when you’re reading a book and you’re just flying through it cause everything just makes sense and you don’t question things?
This whole concept with the music is a very unique one, I think I said that before. I haven’t read anything similar to this. It’s making me appreciate the fact that I’m (usually) able to choose the music I want to live to.
I’m truly in love with the characters. The greatest part about them? They have development. They get better humans because of their mistakes. They act real.
I guess I’ll be out in the world for the rest of my life, searching for my own personal Roark. He’s everything to me.
And well, the story? There were a lot of plot twist I didn’t expect. I’m talking about the last 50 pages in particular. It was the hell of a ride and now I can’t wait for the synopsis/title/cover reveal of the third book in this trilogy!
Edit: I so do not want this series to end but tomorrow I‘ll start Siren, the final book!

This is the sequel to Vinyl, so I don't want to give a synopsis and give anything away... but I will say that SOPHIA HAS DONE IT AGAIN - BREAKING MY HEART ALL OVER AGAIN.
If you guys have been following me for any amount of time this past year, you know I am IN LOVE with Vinyl, it being one of my favourite books of 2016. Having heard that Radio would be releasing I was nervous about it getting the "second book in a series syndrome". THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. This book was everything I wanted and more, I'd been anticipating it for far too long now and I was NOT disappointed. I didn't want to start the book because I didn't want it to have to end. It instantly became one of my favourites for 2017. I admit it took me so long to finish because I was terrified of how Sophia planned to BREAK MY HEART this time around. I was just WAITING for it to happen.... AND IT DID OF COURSE (I'm angry Sophia... SO VERY ANGRY) I'm just upset I have to wait until 2018 for the third book!!!
Sophia has a way with words that makes everything you're reading come alive. Her world building is incredible. The plot of the book isn't predictable and it is so action packed and thrilling it's hard to put down. The new characters introduced were amazing. Mouse, Jonah and Samson fill up the pages with so much personality. Of course, the old characters shine as well. All the characters grow and develop in such amazing ways throughout the story and you instantly become attached. I've grown to love each and EVERY one of them.
This trilogy is EXTREMELY UNDERRATED and I HIGHLY recommend checking it out if you get the chance. It's action packed and full of a diverse, loveable cast - you won't be disappointed.

Once again Sophia has destroyed my heart and soul.
This book was everything I wanted it to be. The writing was so beautiful. The new characters were amazing. This book was just absolutely phenomenal. I knew I was going to love it just by the cover (which, not going to lie, I could stare at for hours, that's how much I love the cover). Sophia did not disappoint in the sequel to Vinyl.
Sophia has a knack for crafting sentences in the most beautiful way. Her writing is probably my favorite part of the series (other than Roark hehe). A book's writing style is something that is extremely important when keeping your audience interested in the plot, and Radio does that. So if writing style is important to you and you want to read something that is beautifully crafted, check out this series pronto.
The new characters that were introduced were amazing. I loved Samson, Mouse, and Jonah (especially Jonah). I loved how these new characters were introduced and how we got to know and attached to them. I cannot wait to read more about some of these new characters in the final book.

Anybody who knows me knows that I love Vinyl. I love the characters, the plot, the worldbuilding. And I’ll admit I was a bit nervous for Radio - the second book of a trilogy really makes or breaks the series.But let me say that Radio didn’t disappoint. I found it just as good, if not better, than the first book, and anyone who liked Vinyl will love this.
The characters of Radio are just as great as they were in Vinyl, and we got some new characters added to the cast of Anthemites. I loved Iris and Evie just as much as before, and I loved Ronja’s development as a character. The aftermath of Red Bay was also shown really well in Georgie and Cosmin, and Charlotte’s character really hit me in the feels.
The plot was also so unpredictable - I would be convinced for a few chapters that I knew what was going to happen, only to be completely and utterly wrong. Everything was connected in a way that it all made sense, leaving no space for plot holes. It left me on the edge of my seat and dying for more.
The writing in this is absolutely beautiful. Sophia never fails to amaze me with her writing - it just has a certain flow to it. Readers will feel like they’re a part of the story, right there with the characters.
I really recommend Radio - release date is April 5th (that’s tomorrow)!! I’ll be doing a more in-depth and spoilery review after the release!

I have no idea where to even begin with this review! I read Vinyl last year and was blown away! I could not figure out how someone came up with the idea of using music as a weapon. It is such a unique idea! I could not wait for Radio to be released and now the day is almost here! 3 MORE DAYS! April 5th is the day you all will be reunited with your anthemites!
"The idea of music being able to travel without the aid of singers was insane enough, but a voice that could counteract it... she was not entirely convinced it was possible herself."
Sophia throws us right back into her musical world and I could not be happier. We get to see all our old favorite friends as well as some new ones! Ronja and the anthemites found a way to fight back. They think they have found a way to finally destroy the conductor.. but will it work? Ronja and her friends are faced with a difficult decision. What would you do if you could make a difference but the people around you were too afraid to try? Would you stand up for what you believe in? or would you accept defeat?
Sophia paints such an amazingly, vivid world for her readers. The words she uses and the way she places them on the page allows us to feel as if we are anthemites ourselves, running around with the characters in the book. These characters are so well thought out! Each has some complex story and background of their own. I love this in a book because it makes the characters real, allowing the reader to have something or someone to relate to. Each character has a super awesome, unique name, which I really enjoy! Once again, I have no idea how she thought of such cool names. Sophia's mind is truly something not from this world. Okay, back to the characters! I love Roark and I will always love Roark! Can you guys say book boyfriend material? Because I sure can! I was excited to meet Mouse in this book. Sophia has been talking about him for some time now, so I was pretty excited when he was introduced. I wish I could sit here and just type about each and every character, but what would be the fun in that? I try super hard not to give away spoilers, so you guys will have to check out the book for yourselves. There are so many surprises throughout this book! I can almost guarantee that once you start reading, you will not be able to stop. That is exactly what happened to me. I picked up Radio and I was glued to it until I was finished.
"My voice is a weapon; Ill use it when I have to." Roark smiled ruefully. "Your voice is an instrument of freedom. It can free you too, if you let it."
The vinyl Trilogy really is a series that does not get enough credit. For some weird reason, this series always kind of reminds me of the Divergent Series. I always find myself thinking... well if the Divergent Series can be that big then why cant the Vinyl Series be that big? I probably compare the two because they are both dystopian reads? But, my point is.... Vinyl is amazing and just as wonderful, if not more, than a lot of big named books out there. Sophia is an Indie author, but her time will come! This girl is going places, I can tell! With a mind like hers it is kind of impossible not to do great things!

i loved this book even more then the first! it was everything i could have wanted in a sequel!
content warnings: ptsd, death, mention of sexual assault, use of drugs, violence
the world building was fantastic! while a lot of the setting of the story was the same, the detail and environment was so captivating.
the introduction of new characters, as well as the development of the main characters was amazing. the new characters were written into the story so flawlessly, and were instantly likable. ronja continued to be an amazing main character as well as roark, evie and iris! the romance between the characters didn’t feel rushed at all, and was so sweet.
i liked how we were thrown into the story and plot instantly, and the main plot points happened pretty early on. this book, especially towards the end was so action packed, and i speed through it!
also that ending was crazy, and i can’t wait to see what happens in book 3!

**The review itself may contain minor spoilers**
I'm writing this review with the pieces of my broken heart. I don't know why Sophia isn't more popular because her books, both Vinyl and Radio, deserve to be read by everyone. In comparison with Vinyl, Radio was slower, but that is what made this book so darn awesome. The way Sophia writes about the world and characters she has created is so beautiful that you just feel like everything that happens to the characters in Revinia, happens to you too. I like that new characters, like Mouse, were introduced into the story. I would've liked more of him in this book, but I get that it wasn't actually that necessary. Nonetheless, I hope to see more of him in book three because I think he's an important character. Ronja and Roark's relationship give me LIFE, like c'mon, those two are one of my favorites OTP's! Ohhhhh, and the way Ronja grew as a character in this book was beyond spectacular! Radio was a book that gives you a ride through a beautiful river, but then, all of a sudden, you enter an inferno of rapids, taking twists here and there, making you think "Wow, am I sane after all this?". Totally recommend this book and series; so freaking pumped for book three!

•Wilcox was a huge idiot in this book, his arrogance and stupid way of dealing with things, specially things that could help Revinia, was incompetent.
•The story about Sigrun, Roark's sister, was truly heartfelt. The way their father just shot her because of being the first one to say "no" to him made me waaaaay too mad. That made my anger towards him much bigger.
•I loved the nicknames thing. Like Drakon for Roark, Chimera for Evie, Nymph for Iris, Medusa for Terra, Griffin for Samson and Siren for Ronja.
•MAXWELL IS AN ASSHOLE! That idiot set a trap for the whole team and ughhhhh, chaos went loose.
•HENRY IS ALIVE, PALS! I just have a bad new, he's being manipulated by the idiot, Maxwell. Thanks to that, he killed someone important in the story, for that, check out my next point.
•Can we talk about Samson's freaking death, huh? CAN WE TALK ABOUT THAT? Why is it that always good peoole end up dying? Ugh, I can't get over that loss.
•Ronja is the daughter of Darius Sorin Alezandri II, king of Revinia in exile. WHAT? Sh*t just got pretty intense.

Well, where do I even start with this? It was phenomenal. A fantastic sequel to Radio! I sped through this in about two days and once I had put it down I honestly thought to myself, "Sophia needs to teach me her writing magic!"
*WARNING this review contains some spoilers*
Let's begin with the pacing of the book. It was blissful to read and I found myself flicking through the pages with no trouble at all. It slowed down in all the right paces and picked up when it needed to, ending with a great build up of tension to the final few chapters. The introduction of new characters didn't feel forced or convenient and the time and dedication given to each characters personal development was applause worthy. I adored meeting Samson and Jonah - two completely different characters in terms of personality and physical appearance and yet both utterly stole my heart! The writing itself is A+++++ and is on par with some of my all time favourite authors work - Sophia is a natural!
I didn't see the twist with Henry's story coming at the end and it added a great shock factor to the book and completely changed the way I saw the story going, which as a reader is always a good thing. Samson's short lived story in this book was made up for with great page time and development, as I mentioned before, but for me the woman who stole the show was Terra. She was fabulous, which is probably an unpopular opinion due to her character, but I adore strong and powerful female leads who don't take shit from anyone, including the main character! She had a redemption arc throughout this leading on from what happened at the end of Radio, which I appreciated and enjoyed reading so much. This leads me gracefully onto Ronja. Ahhh, Ronja. Stubborn in her own right and frustrating at times, but she more than makes up for it with her fierce over protectiveness and fiery nature, as well as her unbending will to never give up.
All in all, a fantastic read, and I am so grateful to Sophia for letting me be a part of this journey with her and helping her bring her characters to life <3

Stubborn in her own right and frustrating at times, but she more than makes up for it with her fierce over protectiveness and fiery nature, as well as her unbending will to never give up.
All in all, a fantastic read, and I am so grateful to Sophia for letting me be a part of this journey with her and helping her bring her characters to life <3

Again, Sophia sucked me in. I am not surprised how easy it was to fall back into Revinia after so long, and I am so excited to finish this world with Siren next year. The writing is fast paced yet elegant and new characters were immediately like old friends (or enemies). A must read. Siren cannot come soon enough!

I enjoyed this one so much more than the first! All of the issues I had with the pacing in Vinyl were gone in Radio. I even started to feel something for the characters! Radio went in a direction I so was not expecting and now I can't wait to jump straight into Siren, the final installment in Vinyl trilogy.

Death seems to have trouble keeping up with Ronja Zipse. This book was so captivating from the beginning to end nothing short of perfection. I don’t like giving spoilers because I believe people should go into books not knowing much. { it’s all about the surprise }

I have never bought a book so fast. I feel as though the story is a bit, plain but I absolutely love it still. The characters are well developed and the literary devices used make the story even more amazing and interesting. All I can say is keep up the amazing work! Can't wait to read the next book.

Now that I've had a chance to actually process this book ... let's talk about Radio.
I was eager to read this book after finishing the first one of the trilogy, and it did not disappoint. Questions from the first book were answered, and new ones left in it's wake. New characters that were introduced fit right in among the old, and I never felt like I was being forced to accept the new characters or like them more (or less) than the original gang.
This series makes me nostalgic for The Host by Stephanie Meyer (a compliment, I swear, the Host is one of my all time favorite books) with the dystopian setting and all the cave dwelling that goes on, but this book showed readers new settings and gave the series a little more depth.
If there's one this Sophia has mastered as a writer, it's a well delivered plot twist. Every time I thought I had something figured out, every time I thought I was catching her in a cliche or an easy out, she flipped the switch and changed the game. It was so exciting to go further and further into the book.
My least favorite part (and this might just be because I'm a cynic) was that romance was far more abundant in this book than the first. I love the couples present in the series, and the diversity among them, but c'mon guys. Chill. You're trying to save the world here.

I had been anxiously awaiting for this sequel for quite some time and I was not disappointed, nor did I expect to be. I fell back in love with the characters I cheered for in Vinyl and this book exceeded my expectations. Sophia's parlance is truly a work of art; I have a habit of falling asleep while reading but the vivid imagery and diction kept me turning the page. Thank you for another astounding novel.

This novel is even better than the first in the series. It tugs at your heart strings. It demands your full attention and you won't be able to put it down. You can see the growth the characters have made since the first book, and how the relationships they have formed have changed. I have very high hopes for the last part of the trilogy. This story is such a beautiful piece of writing and the characters are phenomenal. Five stars for sure!

Returning to Revinia and these diverse characters was long over due. The makeshift family of rebels and misfits is really what drives this series; Sophia writes characters superbly, they are so real I can clearly imagine each and every one of them in my head. I honestly think if there is any lasting harm done to my favourite Anthemites by the end of this trilogy I will toss the books over a bridge to symbolically drown my feelings (and the quickly buy new copies to replace them in my library). Radio did an excellent job at pushing the revolution forward while also providing enough time to get to know the Anthemites more.

I’m still waiting to give my full review until the end but this book was as good as the first book. So I’m excited to read the final book In this series to see if the “music has guided them home”. I have a feeling we are going to finally get the upper hand and I loved the twist at the end of this book! It came at exactly the right moment!!!

Thanks so much to the author for providing me with a copy of her book for an honest review. As always, all opinions are my own.
I got the opportunity to read the first book in this series, Vinyl, around this time last year and I really enjoyed. This series is dystopian, but I found it was different from other dystopias I have read. The genre is so bogged down but I think Hanson is able to make this series stand apart.
I will just quickly say, while this review will be spoiler-free-ish for book two, there may be some spoilers for book one, just with plot and characters and stuff.
As with book one, Hanson continues to write succinctly. Despite the fact that it is an almost 350-page book, I flew through it. I think that's a combination of the writing style, the story itself, and the pacing of the book.
I was happy to see the relationship between Roark and Ronja develop, I know it was something that was worked in but not really the main focus - rightly so in that book. But in this case, there was some down time between events and having their relationship move forward filled the gaps. I think Hanson wove it in quite well, it wasn't just randomly thrown in because ROMANCE but because it made sense within the story.
As I mentioned in my previous review for book one, this series really is just a classic dystopian. It has everything I want in the genre and I really appreciated that. For a while, it felt like all I was reading was dystopian, but after taking a step back from the genre, I can really appreciate what Hanson has created. We got to see a bit more of the world around Revenia, into other nations. I liked this aspect because so often, in books like these, we see what is happening in one nation, but not how it affects or is seen by other nations in the world. I think about something like The Hunger Games and wonder, is there life outside the districts? What about other nations? What happened to them? Hanson weaves a history trying to answer some of these questions and I think, helps add an even more refreshing spin on the genre.
I liked how the story didn't drag on, something that is often a problem with the second book in a series. I think this book has a lot going for it and helps develop the series. And don't even get me started on that ending! How on Earth was that pulled off!? I am hotly anticipating book three so we can get some details!
Overall, great second book to a refreshing series; highly recommend.

I’m excited to talk about this because the first one ended up becoming one of my favorite books/series. It’s a dark, dystopian/steampunk type novel where the characters are being mind controlled by music through implants in their ears. There’s a society of rebels who have managed to take these implants out and live in hiding who are working to rid their society of their corrupt leader. The first book followed Ronja, who was taken in by the rebels – the Anthem – and went through a whirlpool of events. The end left us off with Ronja getting her family back from an experimental facility, and a rather sad and intense ending.
Radio picks up a short while after the events of Vinyl – with Ronja struggling with what had happened to her in the experimental facility as she tried to rescue her family. In this aspect, I liked the realistic portrayal of Ronja’s emotions and actions/reactions to everything that had happened to her. Normally the heroine only has issues for part of the book and then magically heals – but not Ronja. No she deals with it the whole book.
This novel was a little less fast-paced and intense than the first book was, but in a way it was a refresher compared to the emotional whirlwind that was Vinyl. However, there was still quite the emotional pain at the very end of the book. While reading this book, it was like I knew something was going to happen. Everything was going so well for the characters, but after having been through so much heartbreak with books I was just like this isn’t going to end well. And I was right – but I’m not complaining. I wasn’t expecting what happened and while it hurt it was so good. I just realized I’m probably spoiling the book a little — but just PREPARE YOURSELVES OKAY?
More characters were introduced this book, and naturally, I ended up loving them. The way the author writes these characters – their voices leap out of the page. They’re realistic, funny, and each of them has a defining personality. And they make mistakes, have flaws, etc. I think this cast of characters is one of my favorites of all time. I’m hoping to see more of the new characters in future books (which have been confirmed) — and I hope I won’t have to grieve anymore (*side eyes Sophia*).
Radio also opened up the world we were introduced to in Vinyl. Even though we don’t get to yet see them, I like that there’s more than just Revinia, the country/society the book currently takes place in with everyone under the spell of “The Music.” A character from one of these other areas of the world, a snarky guy I absolutely adore, is bringing a new conflict – a potential war. So it will be interesting to see in the final novel how this will all incorporate into the story, especially with the information about Ronja we were given right at the end of the book.
The Vinyl Trilogy is honestly one of the best examples of storytelling I’ve seen in a while. The writing is melodic, rhythmic..it just flows and creates an image in your head of everything that’s going on. Truly, this book brings a fresh new face to the dystopian genre, and I highly HIGHLY suggest it. It evokes emotions from you and the books are pretty much hard to put down. I nearly read Radio in one sitting.
Anyways, the author is also super sweet and nice – and there’s SO MUCH representation of all kinds and I doubt this book will disappoint. The first two books are out now and you can get them through Amazon, or Barnes and Noble, etc. PLEASE READ THEM. THANKS.

I've been waiting for this book for all my entire life, if this is possible. Since I started reading with a conscience I always loved sci-fi saga. Radio and the Vinyl trilogy are what I was hoping to read one day. I was enchanted by Vinyl and Revinia's world and I couldn't have imaged what was waiting for me in this stunning sequel. Plot twists, fights, love, betrayals, music (not just what you can think about!), all written with such grace and talent that brought my mind in an almost real and tangible place while I was loosing myself in this words' world. It doesn't happen so many times that a book make me feel so many feelings, all together and stronger than ever, that let me think for some hours I was more human for sharing feelings with other "people" than what I really am. From now on Ronja and the others will always be in my heart as the characters of a magnificent story who remind me how to love and feel something in a life that bring you to apathy. This, for what I know, is Sophia's "fault" and I'm sure I will never thank her enough to pay back this debt. Radio really gave me back my life, with all the bad and good aspects. I have to recommend this trilogy to all of you that love YA sci-fi books and want to live a unique experience through paper and ink. May your song guide you home!

This series is truly remarkable! As someone who has read her fair share of dystopian books, I didn't think I'd ever find another series to read in that genre - but I was wrong! This world is unlike other dystopian books because it has diverse characters, lyrical imagery, and a completely unique world where music is used as a way to gain control. It's set in a steampunk-esque world, and the author does an excellent job weaving her words to really paint a picture of where the story takes place. More than that, in this sequel, we get more information on the rest of the world which really adds a richness to this series that other dystopian series do not have. This sequel not only dives deeper into the world, but it also expands on the characters I had grown to love in the first book. The characters are one of the main reasons I love this story so much - each one is incredibly unique and the author describes them in a way that makes me care about them more and more as time goes on. While it does have some of the typical dystopian tropes, I love how the author put her own spin on them. The ending of this book ESPECIALLY blew my mind, and I cannot WAIT to get to the finale!

4.5! I had some issues with Ronja’s temperament but that’s more a me issue than a bad writing issue (Ik where they’re coming from but I’m also a much more level-headed person and when characters have a short temper I’m like gosh do you really have to beat someone up for it? Can’t you like, find a punching bag? Take some deep breaths? Etc?) Otherwise the book was near perfect! I flew through it! It did have a little drag towards the middle when we were waiting for something to happen but Hanson kept it from getting too long! And then all the drama at the end totally threw me for a loop! I knew something was up with Maxwell and he shouldn’t have been labeled a madman and trusted when he did just fine on his feet during Red Bay but dang I also didn’t see all that coming!

After the events of the first book I was excited to see where Hanson and her writing would take us with Radio. I loved seeing her characters again, watching them deal with the effects of Red Bay and what it had done to their bodies and minds. I loved Evie and Iris still being a key part of the story as they are absolutely my favorite couple. I found the pace of this book to be a little lagging compared to Vinyl, but the twists that are uncovered are much more dramatic and unexpected which more than makes up for a few slow moments.
When I had finished reading Vinyl I felt that it was wrapped up nicely, still leaving room to expand the story but that the situation I'd been reading about for 300 pages was complete. With Radio we are left with a little more of a cliffhanger and the knowledge that the final book may take place somewhere else, which makes me worried for the characters left behind. Hanson's ability to make me care for every person that tags along with Roark and Ronja means I'm committed to their stories as well. I do have faith that Hanson will be able to explain what's happened to them in the time they aren't in view, I just hope it's not horrible.

Overall, another perfect book from Sophia. A book that captures you and keeps you reading until there isn't anything left. A book that is perfection in so many ways. This book has writing that draws you into the world of the rebellion, a plot that keeps you wanting more and a cast of characters that feel like family. Sophia never ceases to amaze me. I am so happy that I got to read this book. I am so happy that Sophia sent it my way. If you have not read this book or the first one, I highly recommend that you do so as soon as you can. Because it is worth it.

I really really loved this one too!! It was definitely slower-paced than the previous book; up until the end it was more behind-the-scenes stuff. But I really liked that about it! I loved the almost slice-of-life moments in the middle, and the way I got to see my favorite couple grow to love and trust each other. In this house we love overthrowing fascist governments, healthy loving couples that care about consent, heart-wrenching endings (Sophia how dare you), found family, and A+ worldbuilding. I’ve been having a crazy week and this series has been an amazing escape when I need to take a break from my schoolwork. I’m going to be so sad when I’m done with the series!!

The second of book of the Vinyl series picks up right where the first left off. We start to see the consequences of the actions of the first and that those consequences having last effects. The development of the characters we met in the first book gets deeper and deeper. I thought I couldn’t love these characters anymore than I already did but I was wrong. I cried for these characters and I think you might too. The second doesn’t disappoint and leaves you with a want for justice!
