Lennox Powder formerly served as a voluntary lay counsellor at the Christ-centred Counselling Centre, St. Augustine, Trinidad. Between 1976 and 2005 he wrote dozens of newspaper articles, mainly in the Trinidad Guardian and Sunday Guardian. The articles in this compilation cover a wide range of interests, including Christian views on matters which are not commonly thought to involve Christian dimensions. Some of these views are familiar, some unconventional, some controversial; some vigorously challenge commonplace ‘Christian’ beliefs which are not biblical. Some views are expected to provoke reactions ranging from disbelief, dismay and rejection to enthusiastic support and adoption. Some are guaranteed to generate extensive discussion. Transcending all that, the unmistakable theme running through all the articles is the call for steadfast, unwavering faith in God and His Word. "I found brother Powder's articles to be insightful, educational and very practical, especially his analysis of suffering. No one likes suffering, however, upon reading brother Powder's exposition, set within a biblical framework encompassing God's plan, it gave me a totally new perspective on this subject and its relevance to believers. This is a must read for all Christians." Ronald Roberts, St Augustine Evangelical Bible Church. "Lennox Powder manages to make this body of Christian thought readily accessible to any reader. It is heart-stirring to accompany him as he glides elegantly from issues as contemporary as sport, social justice or the global financial crisis to those as longstanding as the meaning of trust or the reason for suffering. To each topic he gives equal consideration from the lens of a Christ follower and in that way helps the reader see the Bible’s teachings as actionable even for today’s fast-paced world. The touching honesty and vulnerability that pour out of Lennox’s own coming to terms with personal illness make the later insights truly relatable, and leave a lasting impression. As the chapters progress through time and space, the reader will find their sum a deeply moving and humbling testimony to the power of faith. This is a timeless collection of wisdom that I will cherish for myself and will surely pass on to my children." Angela Shirley-Gibbings, Country Coordinator, Langham Preaching Trinidad and Tobago.
