National bestselling and award-winning author Joanna Campbell Slan was born in Jacksonville, Florida, but she grew up in a small town in Indiana. After graduating from Ball State University with a degree in journalism, she worked as a newspaper reporter, a newspaper ad salesperson, a television talk show host, a college teacher, a public relations professional, and a motivational speaker. In that capacity, she was named by Sharing Ideas Magazine as “one of the top 25 speakers in the world.”

Slan's work has appeared in five of the New York Times Bestselling Chicken Soup for the Soul books, and one of those became a television show. She is the author of nearly 80 books, nonfiction and fiction, including Death of a Schoolgirl, which won the 2013 Daphne du Maurier Award of Excellence.

Joanna's personal essays have appeared in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, and one was made into a television program on the Pax Network. The college textbook Joanna wrote—Using Stories and Humor: Grab Your Audience—has been praised as an invaluable resource by Benjamin Netanyahu’s speechwriter and endorsed by Toastmasters, International.

RT Book Reviews has called Joanna “one of mystery’s rising stars.” Her first novel—Paper, Scissors, Death—was an Agatha Award finalist. It features Kiki Lowenstein, a spunky single mom who lives in St. Louis. The sixth book in that series will be released Summer 2013.

Kirkus Reviews has said, “Slan’s mysteries are most valuable for the well-developed characters and the issues they raise.” RT Book Reviews has said, “Kiki is so darn entertaining that she’ll keep readers hooked.” A series of short stories featuring Kiki are available on Kindle.

Joanna’s newest series—The Jane Eyre Chronicles—began with Death of a Schoolgirl (Berkley) and continues with the release of Death of a Dowager. The series features Charlotte Brontë’s classic heroine Jane Eyre as an amateur sleuth.

As “Lila Dare,” Joanna has penned the fourth book in the Southern Beauty Shop series—Wave Good-bye.

Joanna is married to David Slan. The Slans live on Jupiter Island, Florida.

Overall, I give HH4 5 Stars. My reviews will be short due to word limits on reviews. This is a wonderful collection of cozy mysteries. I recommend reading all of them. I have found some new to me authors that I intend to read more of their books.

**Cara Mia Delgatto and the House of Refuge: A Cara Mia Delgatto Novella by Joanna Campbell Slan
5 Stars Enjoyable story set on the Treasure Coast of FL. Loved learning the history. Quirky
characters. Well-written.

**Dying for School Tea: A Beach Tea Shop Novella by Linda Gordon Hengerer
5 Stars Enjoyable story. Kept me interested. Well-written. Likable characters.

**The Glass Birdhouse by Carole W. Price
4 Stars Enjoyable but no closure at end of story. I assume I know who the killer is but it is never
really stated.

**Bobbing For Murder: Aunt Nozzie’s Wonderful Autumn RV Tour by Lesley A. Diehl
5 Stars OMG!! Screwball comedy mystery. Think the Griswolds. I laughed out loud! Quirky
characters.

**Raven House: A Jillian Bradley Novella by Nancy Jill Thames
5 Stars WOW! Full of twists & turns! Lots of surprises. Enjoyable.

**Falling for Murder: A Pecan Bayou Series Novella by Teresa Trent
4 Stars Enjoyable but too many things that bothered me. I can't say what w/o spoilers. Still a good
story.

**Dead Men Tell Tales by Maggie Toussaint
5 Stars Full of twists & turns & surprises. Well-written. Highly enjoyable.

**All Hallows’ Eve Heist: Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery #3 by Anna Celeste Burke
5 Stars Chaos returns to Marley World & Catmmando Mountain. Of course, Georgie & Jack are
right in the middle of it. Full of twists, turns, & surprises. Loved it.

**Accident, Suicide, or Murder by Randy Rawls
5 Stars A bit "heavier" than the other stories in this set. Enjoyable well-written story.

**Haunted Hair Nights: A Bad Hair Day Mystery by Nancy J. Cohen
4 Stars Enjoyable but too many things that seemed unrealistic to me. Still a good story.

**Spirit in the Rock: A Trouble in Paradise McKenna Mystery by Terry Ambrose
5 Stars A PNR cozy mystery. Interesting characters, well-written, held my attention from the
beginning.

**Haunting in Himmarshee: A Mace and Mama Short Mystery by Deborah Sharp
5 Stars Mace & Mama are quite a pair! Lots of quirky characters. Highly enjoyable.

**Kiki Lowenstein and a ‘Doodoo’ to Remember: A Kiki Lowenstein Short Story Joanna Campbell
Slan,
5 Stars A slightly humorous short story. Loved how the bad guy is caught!

( I received this book in exchange for an honest review) average for the 12 stories 4 stars

12 Authors of the Cozy Mystery genre ( and for those who don't know the term you are in for a treat!) got together for a Fall themed compilation, their fourth as a group, of short stories or novellas set all over the country.

As a long standing reader of cozies,I,of course, have favorite authors, some of whom are present. Most can be read as "stand alones" even if you know the character. I particularly loved the "All Hallow's Eve Heist" "Accident, Suicide or Murder", Bobbing for Murder", and "Raven House". And three of those authors I had never read before! They are fairly easy to "figure out" along with the amateur problem solver.

Each story has a "sleuth" that was introduced in another book, so it fits the cozy genre well. So do short stories which are easy "one sit wonders". People love to squirrel these away in their desks, their car, their lunchbag, their purses so they can read something that helps them relax and focus. A series like this fits the bill just right. So, settle in for a fun fast frolic in the autumn leaves and enjoy!

Happy Homicides 4: Fall Into Crime Anthology is the latest collection of short stories by some terrific authors and put together by Joanna Campbell Slan. I have read the previous three anthologies, and to say I enjoyed them would be an understatement, so I was very excited when this one was released. I was not disappointed and I hope there is a #5, #6, #7 . . . you get the idea! The anthology includes bonus files with recipes and craft ideas that go along with the stories.

I always think I will read these stories while waiting for appointments or some other time when a short, quick read is called for. However, each time I can’t help myself and I read them all in one sitting. I also thought I would identify my favorite authors or favorite stories, but they were all great and thoroughly enjoyable. Sure, some are more to my taste than others, but they were all fun reads and a great way to get into the spirit of the Fall season. So congrats and thanks to Joanna Campbell Slan (twice!), Linda Gordon Hengerer, Carole W. Price, Leslie A. Diehl, Nancy Jill Thames, Teresa Trent, Maggie Toussaint, Anna Celeste Burke, Randy Rawls, Nancy J. Cohen, Terry Ambrose, and Deborah Sharp.

Because of them I (virtually) travelled all over the country: Florida, California, New York, Georgia, Texas, Missouri and Hawaii for starters. Mystery and murder were common themes, but how, who and why were unique. I saw a shipwreck, went to high school, learned some crafts, took an RV trip, investigated a fundraiser, learned organization tips in a former funeral home, went hunting, to a Disneyland-like park, a costume ball, a haunted house, and met a private eye, a ghost advisor and a farting dog! The stories were silly or serious or scary or romantic, with a variety of interesting characters.

A couple of the authors were new to me, many were favorites from previous Happy Homicides, and a couple of my favorite authors made a first appearance in these anthologies. The stories are all little glimpses into the full-length works of the authors, and as usual my TBR stack got taller because I want to read more from these authors.

If you want to read a collection of stories that you won’t be able to put down, Happy Homicides is for you!

Note: I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Happen to come across this as a freebie and this is the collection or maybe this one and one of the other collections that led me to Anna Celeste Burke books, of which own all of them now, this one may be one of the ones available on kindle unlimited can't remember offhand it's been a while since reviewed this one, and that means the date isn't right, but for some reason kept forgetting this place. Below is what happens when some find a writer that they like. . Try them on ku or buy them in sets or individually as I did; ku is nice, but keeping certain books forever is better. The others ranged from possible 5 or 4 all the way down to 3 or 2/1 which is why haven't been reading collections much now. This one, can't remember which book of her was in this one at moment since been a while, but reason I get them mostly {when in collection takes while to come out on own.}

Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery
Cowabunga Christmas #1 Gnarly New Year #2 Heinous Habits (Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery, #3) {out in collection, soon to be sole}

Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery Series
Murder at Catmmando Mountain #1 Love Notes in the Key of Sea #2 All Hallows' Eve Heist #3 A Merry Christmas Wedding Mystery#4 Murder at Sea of Passenger X #5

Jessica Huntington Desert Cities Mystery
Love a Foot Above the Ground 0 A Dead Husband 1 A Dead Sister 2 A Dead Daughter 3 A Dead Mother 4

5 stars and 5 stars and I bought them outright even though have ku, all I should have to say.

This was an enjoyable collection of Fall themed novellas and short stories. I especially liked the tropical settings of Florida and Hawaii. Plenty of Halloween mischief to read about and I was able to discover some mystery authors that are new to me and worth checking out.

Love the boxed sets.

All the stories were great and I read some new authors. It's even better that stories are short so that when I'm busy I still have time to read one.
