The Luck of Rainbow Gold

A fun, lighthearted read. Rainbow Gold believes she had good luck apart from in relationships, but she is determined to change that.
I found the book highly predictable and.a little far fetched, but still an enjoyable read.

The Luck of Rainbow Gold was a good read by Eryn Scott. Rainy is twenty-eight years old and has lived a lucky life. That is until she ends her last relationship after she finds her boyfriend cheating. Her best friend is convinced that she's lucky in life except for love. Rainy is looking for a guy who will get that luck to stick. It seems as though Adam may be that guy until she finds out who he is. I loved Adam and Rainy's story and can't wait to read more by Eryn Scott.

A little too cutesy
If you want a book that's light & easy to get through, this is that. If you want a book that's realistic or not riddled with clichés, it's not this. It's beyond silly that the primary female characters all have ludicrous first & last names, & their names "just happen" to go with their vocations (Sunny Skies is a meteorologist, Rainbow Gold is a lucky hippie type, Honey Pie is a baker (because of course)). The story really requires you to suspend disbelief to the point of ridiculousness--nothing is realistic about it--not the romances that are solely based on a week or two of sex but are magically love, not the fact that the characters believe in luck to the point where they ask Siri about it, and especially not the part where Sunny buys Rainbow a bracelet with a charm of a toilet (yes, really) to "change" Rainbow 's luck. Oh, & Rainbow goes by "Rainy," so the best friends are...Sunny & Rainy. Honey, of course, is the sweetest person on earth, who is innocent to the point of naïveté, & she looks like the girl next door. There is little character development (the author is too caught up in how many clichés or cutesy things she can plop on a page), & the romantic relationship (or any relationship) development is lacking. Rainy doesn't even ask Adam anything about his life until their 3rd date, which is of course the one where they're sure they're meant for each other. She doesn't even know is last name until the very end of the book.
Although the book almost reads like it's light & cute enough for young adults can read, don't be fooled--the author only breaks from her cutesy style to insert graphic sexual details into the book (way too frequently), many of which are cringeworthy. I'm not sure why anyone needs to know that on their first date, Rainbow's partner had her "on all fours," that her friend prefers sex on the kitchen table, or how much sand got on/in her when she had sex on a beach. And be ready for sex clichés, too--like about how Adam "saw" & "got into" her garden (both of them). And of course, Rainy thinks it's the funniest thing ever the call her "soulmate's" Adams Apple..."Adam's Apple! Hehehe!"
The whole book is trite--like some fantasyland all about fate, and the only thing that really differentiates many characters is what they look like (Honey has brown hair and eyes, Rainbow Gold has...golden locks, (of course) etc.). All of the women are gorgeous, new-agey, yoga fiends, who believe in vivid dreams/visions as indications of reality, are into organic products, etc. There may be some personality development in other books, but in is standalone book, the women are all basically the same person with a few very minor differences. Of course, they have sixth senses too--Sunny knows who's behind her without looking, Rainy "knows instantly" that Sunny was going to be her best friend when they met, Rainy knows exactly what Sunny is thinking, etc.
Read this if you like totally unrealistic trite fairytales (with highly graphic sexual content), have nothing better to do, or seriously believe in the concepts of this book. I actually like some things the characters do (yoga), but it's just too much--yoga, magic bracelets, the universe conferring luck & destiny on people, organic yogurt (at a food co-op of course), a tea shop with a tie-dyed banner, magic teas that cure ailments, only shopping local (and of course, in this absurdly fantasyland, no chain store/restaurant/etc. would DARE enter the community, except the one that is the basis for contempt & turns out to be "good guys" after all), people who read each other's minds/thoughts, DIY weddings in gardens, "bachelorette" parties that consist of baked goods & a sleepover with Meg Ryan movies, a group of friends who all believe in the same unrealistic fate-type nonsense, characters who never really need or wear makeup, every woman needing and finding a soulmate, protesting the one chain retailer in town, a group of magic players and knitters who hang out in a tea shop--you name it. Put it aside unless you have nothing better to do.

Again I picked this book because of a challenge I mean I needed a rainbow on the cover I had bought this book a while ago so bonus. I didn’t dislike it I found it intriguing and Rainey is a really interesting character and I get that she feels like life gave her luck and that’s the reason she is where she is, so when that kind of turns on her, well she freaks out a little bit. Which is understandable when you think everything is now going to go horribly wrong but I think she’s a little naïve to that part I didn’t really like.
Adam is a great character as her leading man but I found she didn’t really stick up for himself and that I wasn’t jiving with because as we get to know him we find out he’s just really cool guy. The reason he is where he is it’s truly a heart warming story.
Overall an interesting story the narration was OK. I think I will go back and listen to the first book I do on that one as well because her character the best friend seems quite interesting to me.

I listened to the audible version. This is the first book I’ve read/listened to in the What’s in a Name series, and while it is technically a stand alone novel, I did feel like I missed things having not read the first book. Sunny featured prominently in this book and what I assume were events or people from the first book were mentioned quite a few times. I suspect I would have preferred to read Sunny's story first.
This book had more secrets/communication/relationship drama than I would have preferred and some of the transitions didn’t seem logical to me. For example, characters assumed what others were thinking or suddenly changed their minds. It annoyed me when Rainy said she knew what she should do, but then didn't actually do it. But all that aside, I did like the writing style, the set up and the happy ending.

January 21, 2020It was a tried and tested story line and so it worked. Little private store owner, corporate guy blah blah. I wanted to keep reading and so it proved it was engaging. I actually liked the main character, although her musings got a little too much at times and devolved into skippable back story info dumps. I've taken off a star for the multiple asides in (brackets) which got really tiresome after a while. The characters were well rounded and I liked the tea shop idea. I also appreciated that the MC wasn't perfect and was taken on a full arc to come to the conclusion that she was failing as a business owner. There's an element of redemption and self analysing in that which I appreciated.
Overall, a good, easy read (as long as brackets don't annoy you too much.)

Audiobook Review:

This was my first book by this author and it was a good introduction. I found that the overall storyline and writing was really good. I also really liked Adam, the leading man. Rainbow, the leading lady however took a little warming up for me. Or maybe it was more that as she grew up and started taking more responsibility for her life, I liked her more. In the end I got there though.
The narrator for this one was fantastic. I really enjoyed her sound and the fact there was good tone distinction between characters. I know I would love her if she ever did a duet or dual narration too.
After finishing this book I know I want more of this narrator and I would be interested in trying another book by this author too.

AUDIOBOOK edition
A sweet romance with a mix of interesting characters, Rainy and Adam being the main ones. Their journey to the inevitable HEA is rocky but they make it and it is sweet and satisfying. Love the warm friendships and the feel of a community that helps each other, the glimpses in the characters lives woven in the main story. My first from the author, I will have to check the other books too. I will definitely need to listen to Sunny and Honey's stories too. - 4 stars
The narrator, Ms. Navarro was the reason I picked up this book and as usual she gave me a few hours of aural bliss. Her love of the craft shows and her talent gives each character life with their own temperament and quirks. That is why she is one of my 'eargasm' voices. - 5 stars

Easy, sweet love story
This is a very fun beach read. A happily ever after book whee the roadblocks aren't contrived. The financial stuff is definitely something that anyone living a hippie free-spirit lifestyle could find themselves in.

Eryn Scott pulled me in with The Luck of Rainbow Gold. I liked the premise of this book and thought that Kelsey Navarro was wonderful bringing the characters to life. Rainy and Adam both appealed to me. I grew up in a small town, so many things struck home with me. Thank you Audiobook Obsession for this great listen!

I enjoyed this book, however, I did get frustrated with Rainy and her mooning over Adam to the point she was in a daze whenever she was around him. Does that really happen? One or two asides is fun, but this book had too many, it felt like the author was trying to be too cute. I admit I skimmed over a lot of the thinking that Rainy did.

This had been on my kindle for far too long and I honestly don't know why I kept placing others in front of it. I am so glad I read this story! I loved the characters and the relationships between each one. Nice stand blood book with a HEA.

Fun Read
This story was a fun read. Rainbow is a quirky main character who discovers that relying on luck doesn't pay her tea shop bills. I adore her friends who display some of their own insecurities and keep the story a bit down to earth. The way Rainbow responds to Adam, her hunky new man, and his showing up in a BMW to pick her up, made me giggle. I had a good time reading this and will read more in this series.

Sunshine, the heroine, was a bit too clueless for my taste, but this still managed to be a pretty enjoyable read. There's a fair amount of talk about sex, but no actual sex scenes, if that sort of thing matters to you.

This book is adorable. It has a little "You've got mail" and the right amount of romance without being too cheesy. The story is very simple but that's why I picked it. If you're looking for a good love story, don't miss it!

3.5 stars. This is such a fun and enjoyable read, one of those freebies from Amazon that I read without expectations but turned out to be surprisingly good. I loved the quirky characters and the coffee. And tea, even if I'm not into tea. I'd love to read the other books in the series. :)
