There is Nate's side of the story and then there's mine. Some things he's gotten right. Others he has no clue about. What's the truth? It's not going to take you long to hate him. His very existence. Because he's a charming bastard, you're going to fall for him, too. He's honest even when it hurts. He deserved every bit of my revenge. Sex with him unmakes your world. That's just the truth of the matter. Don't ever let him put his mouth on you. He'll own you. Every part of you. I didn't heed that advice. So, no, I'm not sorry for destroying his world. This is the real story between me and Nate. *Scenes from PERV are included as this is a retelling from the heroine's POV.

Perv and Filth are two novellas that tell Nate and Robyn's sexy, dirty romance. Perv is told from Nate's point of view, and Filth is told from Robyn's point of view (with a few chapters from Nate in the mix). While they essentially tell the same story from two viewpoints, there are enough differences in the details that you don't feel like you are reading the same story twice, as the motivations for the characters are different and equally interesting. While they can be read as standalones, you're better off reading Perv first, then Filth, so that some spoilery details don't get .. well...spoiled.
When Robyn spots the sexy, handsome stranger across the bar, her friend insists she go for it, approach him and get out of her dryspell. And when Robyn takes her advice, everything seems to be going along wonderfully - until she finds out his name. When she realizes who it is, and the effect he had on a dear friend of hers, her mind is made up. She's going to pretend to be interested in him, sleep with him for revenge and then toss him aside, just like he does to all the women he sleeps with and whose names he can't be bothered to remember. The trouble is that the sex is sooo good, she has trouble remembering what her self imposed rules are. And more than that, it's clear that Nate is not just sex on a stick. He's a real man, with real feelings (who just happens to have a pussy fetish). Once she gets to know him, the emotional distance she's trying to keep gets smaller and smaller. But when Nate finds out the real reason Robyn is sleeping with him, it's no longer fun and games. I really enjoyed reading this from Robyn's point of view. Of course the sex scenes are super hot, but more than that, the romance has a sweet and emotional side to it too. I liked the scenes with Robyn's best friend who has a good head on her shoulders and is able to see clearly what Robyn can't - that she's falling for the man she's supposed to hate. It's another fun, sexy read from this author and there are enough secondary characters introduced that there are sure to be more sexy delights coming our way!
Note: a copy of this story was provided by the author for review.
We'll shoot. I've already read this book. Meaning; this is a re-telling of book one, just in a different POV. Not really my thing. I am sure it's a great read for those who enjoy That kind of thing.
OH EM GEE ... so here's the thing about Filth ... it's a story I already read, but not really. Let me explain. You see, I read Perv and all it's deliciousness back when it came out so one would think the only thing to keep me glued to the same story told from someone else's POV would just be the same delicious and dirty S.E.X .. one would think. Well, one would be sooooooooooo wrong.
This was a brand new journey of Nate and Robyn!! Well done, Dakota Gray, well fucking done!
When I did my review of Perv, I told ya'll the book wasn't just sexy, it was S.E.X. in all it's glory. Well, Filth, wasn't just sexy either, it was F.E.E.L.S. !! I was still very much the story of two people who learned to be the best version of themselves thru each other and for each other, but the emotional baggage that Robyn was carrying in her soul was front and center for us to carry with her. No longer was this story just sexual, it was emotional as well. It was gripping. It was brand new. And it was eye-opening!
IMO, you can read Filth without reading Perv and vise-versa, but you would be missing out. because the two combined are an outstanding journey of forgiveness and growth and redemption cloaked in a heart-warming blanket full of scorching hot S.E.X. #TRUTH
It's been a couple of years since I read Perv, which features Nate's POV, so reading Filth and getting primarily Robyn's perspective was a brand new reading experience, as I remembered only the haziest of details. Nate absolutely won me over again: he's sexy, confident, upfront about his kink and what he has to offer. This book is super hot and the sex scenes really deliver. Nate and Robyn have a great dynamic and top notch banter as they try to one up each other.
The issue I have with Filth is the same one I had with Perv: Robyn's relationship with her best friend Lorraine who died a year prior. (That's not a spoiler.) Lorraine told Robyn Nate essentially ruined her for all other men and she wished she had those three months back so Robyn now hates Nate and when she meets him by chance, it becomes an opportunity for revenge. However, Nate was always upfront about what he had to offer women. Could he have done better? Absolutely. But I didn't understand why not dating Lorraine once she wanted more from him and he didn't was a bad thing—why stay in a relationship if the other person doesn't feel the same way about you? More to the point, how did that become hate-worthy enough for Robyn to despise Nate?
It's definitely complicated because of her grief and the story did a great job of exploring this, especially the areas where Robyn still needs to heal. But it struck me early on how codependent Robyn and Lorraine's relationship was and that's always a struggle for me to read about personally. If not for this aspect, I would have rated the story higher because I really did enjoy reading it apart from this. Dakota Gray is a great author and I definitely want to check out the third book in the series.
CW: grief, references to death by cancer, reference to death by suicide
I knew FILTH was coming (heh!) before I started reading PERV and I knew it was going to be Robyn's side of the story told in PERV. So you would think you already have the gist of the story...You would but believe me, you don't! Though a retelling from the heroine's POV it still took me by surprise but didn’t blow me away as much as I expected it to do.
One minor issue I had was that I thought there were too many Nate POV chapters. Having read PERV I wanted to be in Robyn's head as much as possible and a few of the chapters in Nate's POV I suspect (haven't had time to check it) are the same as in PERV which seemed repetitive. However I understand why the author did it as it will give new readers (who haven't read PERV yet) a more complete story.
This being said I still completely and absolutely loved this perfect combination of raw ugly emotions, filthy sexy heat and the spot-on humor to create more light-hearted moments.
I enjoyed reading the story from Robyn’s POV and finding out more about her, her back story and her reasons for doing what she did. As you already know the story, there aren’t many surprises about the plot and the romance. You already know how it plays out.
A side note: I fell hard for Duke in PERV and fell even harder in FILTH. I am so very ready for his book!
Favorite Quotes: So how could I make these choices, willingly, knowing they bordered on self-destructive? Because I'd pressed death to my heart, breathed it in so deeply I couldn't find my own breath for months. Until he called me Sugar.
F*ckable is wrong the description. This is a man you let get away with all kinds of shit because he pins you against a wall and makes you forget air exists.
I open my mouth to obliterate him, but he brushes his thumb down my neck. The pad of his thumb is rough. My skin heats at the teasing caress. I'm touch-starved. It's the only reason the sensation of his skin against mine feels like every single sense is being awakened. It's why my mouth betrays me by letting out a moan.
I’d have to be brain dead to not know Nate remains in control in every relationship he has. His mouth gives him an upper hand. His honesty does the rest. Honesty disarms mistrust. He has that, and like his mouth, he uses it like a weapon.
I am really torn when I write this review. I fell in love with this set of characters, I loved Perv, read it in August 2016, it became my top read for this year, I immediately pre-ordered Filth was super excited to see that I could get Robyn's side of the story so soon after I had read Perv and would not have to wait forever to clear up her side. Dakota can write, why I did pre-order this book to beginning with, have you read my review of Perv ...I just re-read my review, I praised Dakota Gray over & over! I think Dakota should win amazing book awards for her job well done on the book Perv! I was sad that a great deal of this book, Filth was replayed version of Perv. I guess if you are a reader who has never read Perv you will not feel left out by reading 1st? i know it is near possible to not sort of overlap in the story, with just 2 main characters ...but I would have thought there would have been a lot less overlapping??! Kind of a let down.
Both books are very very steamy hot. Would even love a book all about Duke ... he is a cutie man as well.
Would I want to read this book if I had never read Perv? I would say if you have read Perv ... skip this one, unless it is free or on Kindle Unlimited? Now to me there is not enough new material in this new book to say spend the doe to get it & see Robyn's side of the story, there just is not enough juice-ness to add to the whole-ness of it all. I really feel sad over using my $$$. I know it is only $2.99, but when you read as many books as I do, I love reading ...it is my hobby, I wish for books that I do read to be the greatest ever. As you can see there is another book in the series coming out January 24th, 2017, "Hardcore" ... nothing to do with these characters. I will probably go with the sample thing and then decide whether to buy it from there? That being said this is a very very very high 4 stars very close to 5 stars. But my heart breaks 'cause I was hoping for so many more juice, droolable, amazing, awesome details. ( ;
I was really looking forward to reading Filth after having read Perv, which is the same story as Filth, but told from Nate's perspective. Filth is from Robyn's perspective, and it's just as good as Perv, but, gives us all the inner workings of Robyn's mind that we were missing in Perv.
I empathized much more with Robyn this time, much more than I did with her in Perv. Knowing exactly what she was thinking and feeling went a long way to making her a much more realistic, well rounded character. I can't say that I like her anymore than I did before reading Filth, but at least I understand her more. She's vulnerable in her grief, and it makes her do some pretty awful things, things she probably wouldn't normally have done if she weren't mourning her best friend.
I really appreciate this telling of the Robyn and Nate's story, it didn't feel as if it were just the same story, it felt much different with just the basics being the same. It's pretty amazing that Dakota can give us the same story from two different perspectives and make both of them interesting, relatable and thoroughly entertaining. Filth is just as hot and sexy, just as emotional, and just as well written in this female version.
OK I lied in my PERV review I said I wasn't gonna read this but then I read the first chapter from Gray's website and like SIGN ME UP
Being in Robyn's head isn't quite as fun as being in Nate's, but at least we get a little bit more on Broken Virgin, plus a few bonus scenes (including Duke's--WHY DOES HIS BOOK HAVE TO BE OUT IN 2017) and the postface is really cute ahdbsvbjsvnjf I'm gonna die alone-
Filth is the retelling (but not quite) of the story of Perv, but this time we get it from Robyn’s POV. Now for those blinking at the idea of a new book, retelling a prior book... just go with it. Because although you are replaying the same story, you get so much more from the overall story when you’re able to see into the mind of both of these characters.
Whereas Perv showcased the sexy-as-fuck times, we really get to see all that panty-soaking-goodness in a light that was wrapped in a much more emotional story through the eyes Robyn.
Okay, it was absolutely worth getting Robyn's POV. You should definitely read Perv before Filth because I think you really experience the story the best that way. Seeing it from Nate's POV, I had a little bit of a hard time understanding how Robyn really fell for him outside of the fact that he's good at sex, so I felt like I was suspending belief for that in Perv.
Seeing it from Robyn's POV actually endeared me to Nate even more and I absolutely saw myself in her when I used to fuck around with fuckbois. I finally understood the appeal because I'd been there done that.
There was also definitely more emotions here with Robyn going through her grief, which I thought added more depth to the story. One of my complaints for the last book was that the revenge didn't really seem to fit the crime? Because he is upfront about what he is looking for in a relationship and she was the one who left him, so how much can we really blame him???
But here, we see that it's not really about that. It's about a person who was at the end of their life who was dying too soon and she was looking back on her life's regrets. He was her first, and apparently best, and regardless of how up front you are to someone, it is absolutely hard not to fall someone who is sweet and treats you well. For Robyn, her revenge and anger was something for her to cling onto in her grief and meeting him meant that she could finally do something about it rather than just existing and mourning.
I do think that we got hit over the head too many times about how amazing and life changing Nate is in bed to the point that it felt unnecessary, in both books. Some chapters were also exactly the same in both books, and since I'm reading both so close together, I ended up just skipping those chapters. I do get that it's there for people who just read one or the other but it did take away some of the experience for me.
I don't always enjoy the others point of view, but like others have mentioned this offered a sense or sensuality and softness to Perv...I thoroughly love Robyn, so reading her POV was not a hardship. Because I had just finished Perv, I just skipped over the parts that were repetitive. My only push back is I wish their first encounter was from her POV, but other than that, the craving for just a little bit more of their journey helped to close this couples story. I am so happy I read it.
Filth is the first book in the series - Perv - retold from Robin's perspective. One would think that it would be difficult to hold interest in what is essentially a retelling of the same story, but Dakota Gray does a great job of engaging the reader with more focus on Robin's thoughts, motives and emotions. Despite knowing what was going to happen, I still found myself glued to the book until the end. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
Just a(n almost) duplicate of book 1 (yawn) so again I'm confused about all the 4 and 5 star ratings and gleeful reviews....
Also, I couldn't pick out many differences between this and the first one, as they're both dual POV's so how this is her story and the first one is his is beyond my understanding.
When I reviewed Perv (Book 1 in the Filth series), I made it very clear that if foul language and graphic scenes upset you...then don't read the book because it was dirty all the way through. Perv tested the limits of what is acceptable--and we owed it to ourselves to explore these limits.
As if our limits weren't stretched enough, Dakota Gray spins the tale of Nate and Robyn from Robyn's point of view in Filth (Book 2). This book will rip your heart out, shred your emotions, and make you wonder if you'll be sane when the book ends.
You knew the situation with Nate and Robyn was fu**ed up from Perv. What we didn't know was just how bad, and ultimately wrong, that relationship was. More than toxic...
Dakota Gray spins a tale of pain, sorrow, and love gone so terribly wrong. Her characters live and breathe the pain and hate--yet love tries to take hold. We are in the same room with Nate and Robyn. We feel what they feel; we hurt when they hurt; and we're just one step away from crashing when they do.
Please read this book. It will literally take your breath away! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.)
This is the Perv story, told mostly told from Robyn's POV with a little of Nate's thrown in here and there. I think Perv was groundbreaking in it's own way so it's hard to follow that up. Filth is a really good book and good story and you definitely glean a bit more from seeing her perspective. Their kinks line up nicely and they genuinely like each other once she can start working past her guilt. Their relationship is super hot. Once she gives him a chance and starts to actually get to know him, she can see how wrong she's been about a lot of things, but he is very honest and can admit his faults when he sees them. He tries very hard to not be a bad guy. I think he's a much more likeable character than she is. I'm glad I read the story, but I don't think I would have missed much of the story being told if I hadn't read it since Perv covered most of the bases.
In Perv, we read Nate's side of the story and in Filth we read Robyn's part of view. You don't have to read Perv to read Filth but either one is AWESOME! This is a story of revenge...so sad...but it's also of off-the-charts, steamy sex scenes that will BLOW YOUR MIND. Nate is a womanizer. He knows it and the women he sees know it too. He actually is careful who he sees and he dates them for a while but it's till he get bored or they do. Everyone is clear up front. But Robyn wants revenge for what he did to her friend and it kills her that Nate doesn't even know her friend's name. I'm not saying more on the plot so I don't ruin the book but you will not want to put this book down once you start!
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
As a rule, I am not a fan of "tell it from the other person's POV" stories. While Perv is Nate's story, Filth is Robyn's. I one-clicked it without reading the synopsis, and I'm glad I did. Nate's world is vastly different than Robyn's, and their story was big enough that they deserved separate treatments.
I was a little dubious about this book if I'm honest purely as I'd enjoyed Filth so much. I think that's why it took me awhile to be hooked. I was expecting the same story and obviously there are crossover parts. In this book you get to know and understand Robyn a lot better. Her need for revenge and state of mind. You can read this set of books as standalone and need to be read as such. Don't go with set ideas of the second one as it'll spoil your enjoyment.
I read Perv back in August. When I started Filth, I felt like I had read it before. I discovered this was Robyn's viewpoint of the same situation as in Perv, which was Nate's viewpoint.
The question I have, "was it any different?" I honestly don't know. I believe I have Perv four stars in my review. This honestly felt like I was reading the same book. There may be a difference, but I am not going to re-read Perv to find out. I am conflicted. It's like I took the time to read what I had already read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this Advanced Reader copy.
I liked Perv more. I just did. I think Filth added SOME but ... I don't know that it was NECESSARY? I felt that everything that needed to be said - to be conveyed was sufficiently done in Perv.
The end stuff with Nate's mom was cute though.
For Robyn ... I thought it was pretty clear in Perv she's broken, mourning, and upset. Filth just has a LOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT more of it.
I really want Robyn's friend to have her own story. I was actually kinda hoping it'd be with the lawyer [Nate's friend] but ... doesn't seem like that'll be the case.
First, I would have liked a different cover model for this one, because, although this one is hot, he is NOT an accurate depiction of THE Nathan Ellis.
Second, although readers are warned that there may be some repetition, it was not overly done. There were a couple of scenes that I felt should have been given in the alternate POV instead of just being pulled from Book 1 verbatim. Nevertheless, I enjoyed being in Robyn's head too much to make this one lose a star.
Can't wait to read Duke's story next (TBR 24 January 2017)!
Filth by Dakota Gray.....OMG, I thought how can you rewrite an hot amazing story Perv, but when I read Filth and I totally see a different story from another POV. I enjoyed Perv, Nates story, but Filth, Robyn's story, oh my....a new prospective, makes you think differently. This is a must read, you will love it. I voluntarily reviewed an advance readers copy of this book.
Filth is written in Robyn's point of view with a couple of scenes that are in Nate's. Revenge can be Bittersweet but what happens when you actually start to have feelings. Get ready to have your emotions on a rollercoaster. Filth can be read as a stand-alone but why miss out on Perv. Kinky, Revenge, Smart mouth, Hot
I really enjoyed Perv so I was pretty excited to read Filth, told from Robyn's POV. I didn't always understand her motives in Perv because it's told from Nate's POV. There aren't any surprises here; you know how the story ends. But I really loved the insight into Robyn's mind as their relationship progresses and she reconciles her feelings for Nate with her grief.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book." Beautiful point of view from Robyn. Still crazy, sexy love scenes. Would love a follow up to these characters or a spin off.
In many ways, Filth is kind of a cheat. Perv but with a whole lot more of Robyn's POV thrown in. Does this bother me? I could read about these two broken idiots forever. ... Okay, maybe not forever but definitely until I've been dutifully sated by their off brand, kink-laden cuteness. Which could take a while because goddamnit, their bickering foreplay is just... the best. But better than that was getting a backstage pass to those Robyn moments in Perv that were purposely withheld. It helped me understand her and her grief better. How she could even contemplate fucking someone who hurt her friend so badly. And slowly watching her come to terms with Nate not just being a fuckboy with a fetish but y'know, a layered human being who fucked up. Like we all fuck up. Like she fucked up.
I loved this. I love these two. I love how they fell in love. And the epilogue might have killed me. Goddamnit, Gray! I need more of my ship.
