Shortly after Kate Reed learns that her friend, a popular caterer named Pia Lincoln, plans to marry an artist who recently moved to Crescent Creek, the happy couple vanishes—leaving behind a torrent of unanswered questions and conflicting evidence.
While the police search for the missing pair, Kate uses her experience as a private investigator to look into the situation. The quest leads to a complex mystery and a series of curious clues, including a hunting knife speckled with blood, a sleek Aston Martin sports car, an infamous Hungarian-born counterfeiter, the delivery van from a local retailer and the artist’s secretive benefactors from New York.
An Imitation of Murder, Book 9 in the Sky High Pies Cozy Mystery series, includes a tasty trio of Nana Reed’s Sky High recipes!
This one got way too convoluted with characters to comes across the away it should have, and HEY! What happened to Pia? She was Katie's friend, she was a victim, what the heck happened to her???? No closure for us, as fans an not how Katie would usually treat her friends??? What's up with THAT????????
Just Google the dang name! There were a few frustrating parts with Katie. Someone was trying to be discreet and give her a clue about a person Katie was inquiring about, but when Katie called the woman and the woman simply said, “Just Google the name.” Katie couldn’t just do that. No, she had to continue hounding the lady with questions about why and who and when…
There was also a part near the end where Katie was listening in on a private conversation that didn’t involve her and she knew the people killed somebody, or at least she found out as the people began talking, yet she still decided she needed to get closer to the building they were talking in. I was gnawing on my nails and screaming at her to back away slowly and quietly before she’s caught! And killed! I think that’s just what you call Good Writing though.
I’d also like to point out how Katie talks to her parents at least once per day, yet she never mentions to them what she is doing outside of the pie shop. Her parents don’t know that Katie is smack dab in the middle of a homicide investigation and risking her life at least once a month. I think that’s actually kind of nice of her to not worry her parents like that, because it isn’t like they could do anything anyway.
I thought for sure another one of Katie’s friends would end up dirty again like in the last few books. Her friends were all killers and swindlers! She needs to choose better! Lol. One in particular in this read I had the feeling they were involved and they were. That stinks, but at least it wasn’t one of Katie’s best friends.
Oh, here’s a quote I pulled from this that I laughed about. It was said by a woman who had found out her boyfriend was cheating on her with another woman (the dog. Lol.) - “If I’d known he was so interested in dogs, I would’ve bought him a puppy.”
Lastly, these are cool books because every one has a few recipes that are talked about in the book. This one has a Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie. 3 cups cream?! Dutch pressed cocoa?! Mmmmm…
This was a good next installment. The characters continue to grow and get better. Katie is a good friend to have. She is very loyal and will stop at nothing to get to the truth. This book kept me guessing for quite a while and kept me reading to find out who was involved and how it would end. I recommend this series to any one who likes mysteries.
Intriguing story with great ending. Loved the recipes but I do not want to take on recipes that requires ingredients not normally stocked locally. Thank goodness for amazon.
Another escapade for Katie. Now she has to not only retrieve stolen artwork but also her friend. Well told and with a twist in the tale. However disappointed that Zack, who is supposed to be the love interest, only plays a cameo role. Is he necessary?
the mystery was interesting but got confusing the closer we got to the end of the book. There were a lot of different potential theories floating around crescent creek which are incorporated into the story that makes things very mucky.
We did get to learn more about the relationship between certain people in town. As Kate is looking into Pia’s jobs, we get to meet more people from around town than we normally do. We also find more out about Pia in this book, her background, her family and even why she would want to marry someone that she only just met recently.
