About the author

Steve Evans

Steven Evans writes just what is on his mind or in his heart -- no more, no less. Maybe anyone can do that ... but it takes a special person, such as Evans, to write it with such depth and feeling, yet without over-sentimentality or pretentiousness. Form is his servant, not his master: he likes to rhyme, and (for the most part) uses rhythm to good effect, but he refuses to let meter or syllable count interfere with his expressing himself honestly and clearly. Errors? Sure: “had of known” for “had known,” “wreaked” for “reeked.” We can live with that, in exchange for his spontaneity. He needs a proofreader, but emphatically not an editor. Evans avoids the traps of being too loose or folksy, too Southern or Western, too urban or cool. He doesn’t have a “shtick.” As well as telling his own story, he has an unexpected empathy with others, women as much as men (or more). He writes from experience and truth, not from others’ expectations. “What you see is what you get” has seldom been truer of a writer. Take it or leave it. I’ll take it.
-- John Ambury, Canadian poet and reviewer.

Reading for me is about being captured by the words, feelings and imagery that an author can evoke within the pages of their books. It’s my time to just be relaxed and chilled. To be caught up in the story and emotion of the character/s journey - their story. I’m an avid reader of pretty much most genres and certainly for anything that captures my attention, except HORROR! Something I pretty much avoid in both word and movies. I’m the person who would be sitting behind the cushion with her eyes closed tight or walking out of the room if the mere mention of horror is whispered. I just don’t do HORROR. WOW!! what happened here…

Steven Evans - I’m going to say it was the author who is at fault here, some cool friends who are loyal fans of Steven’s work plus my immense fascination for things pertaining to psychology and human behaviour. Still I’m left wondering at just how far that fascination intrigues me. Just a side note… if you want to grab a glimpse of an author’s work - make sure you watch them in a LIVE write. In that one hour - you get to see a couple of authors take an image and in 10 min. spurts - spin a tale. EXTRAORDINARY!! It’s what will make you want to read more of their stories and become that new fan. That’s what happened. Let’s say that live write was imaginative, pretty horrific, and oh so gruesome in detailed word and deed. The level of sophistication in content was ASTONISHING! To see this happen with very little time, is truly an experience not to miss.

I digress… back to DADDY’S ANGEL. I simply wanted more stories by this author. So this was going to be a huge undertaking for me to read. I’ve read books that are dark with horrific, gut wrenching content but this was going to take it to a whole new level, so I was apprehensive.

DADDY'S ANGEL does not disappoint! It’s highly charged, descriptive in content, not for the faint hearted or those with emotional triggers. This story brings you face to face with death. It’s a beautiful love and family that have been lost through tragedy. A man who has lost his reasons for living, consumed by grief and the precis, attention to detail planning to end his life. It’s an emotional roller coaster from the start before the depths of horror and nightmare grip you by the throat.

It’s a look at how we cope and deal as the person left behind, with no visible support from family and friends. Or maybe that support was pushed away. It’s how our grief becomes all consuming, that we become so entangled in our sadness, guilt, and grief that our thoughts become muddied. Once loving thoughts and memories become fuel to a nightmare world, which are further exacerbated under the influence of excessive alcohol consumption. Oh boy!! this is a one way ticket on a road trip to hell.

* Do we invest too much of ourselves into our love and relationships?
* Do we leave ourselves so exposed when a death occurs, we have so reserves or resources left to move forward? That when our loved ones are gone, we are completely lost, barely able to function and at the mercy of our pain and sadness and guilt.
* Do we just give up on life?

* Can we find that momentary speck of redemption, hope and inner strength to bring us back to living, to continue to fight the inner demons and move forward?

DADDY’S ANGEL is your journey that you find yourself on. One that will keep you turning page after page because those words have a tight grip on your mind, wanting more.

Thank you Steven Evans. Not only for your beautiful words found within these pages of sadness and horror but especially for intriguing my inquisitive mind, especially in a genre that is normally beyond me.

An Epic Journey !
100% SPOILER FREE
This was my 1st full length read by Steven Evans but it certainly won't be my last. If I could give more than 5 stars for this story I absolutely would.
Take a journey through one mans life and the raw emotions he feels. But be prepared because you will feel them too.
What would you do if you lost your family and there was nothing you could do to stop it; however, you feel like you should have been able to? How would you handle the loss of your greatest loves?
You may not agree with the choice this man makes, but you most certainly will understand it. Especially once you begin to feel what he feels and sees what he is seeing. Steven is just THAT GOOD!
What starts as a slow burn, allowing the reader time to build a relationship with the man and make a much needed connection to him - will quickly begin to change in front of your eyes, as the words start to dance off the pages and come into view as if you're a bystander watching these epic events unfold.
You may find yourself screaming, crying, laughing, but definitely questioning your own sanity much in the same way the man is, as the slow burn leads to a climatic moment when we realize all hell has broken loose and there is no coming back from what has now begun.
I absolutely recommend this to anyone who loves to read a extraordinary story with plot twists you'll never see coming. ***WARNING FOR GRAPHIC CONTENT**** 18+ with a strong stomach as what begins as a heartbreaking tale quickly becomes something much more sinister.

Genre: Horror/Paranormal
Rating 4.5/5

I am glad that I had a chance to read this book because it is not my usual genre, but I found it to be quite delightfully creepy and emotional. It is pretty dark and depressing at times, but as I have thought about the book since reading it initially, I realized that it has stuck with me. Readers will want to keep in mind that there are MORE books in this series. The main character goes through some rough stuff, but the next book answers some of the questions and is a little lighter.

A man loses his wife and child and spirals into an abyss of grief, trying to kill himself slowly because he wants to torture himself for not being there to save his loved ones. His grief is so powerful that it attracts a demon to him. She visits him and causes him even more grief, despite him trying to escape the nightmares of his life. She will not leave him alone, and he must figure out a way to get rid of this strange and seductive demon woman.

As noted, it's pretty dark, but there IS light at the end of the tunnel and this is an AWESOME series!
Great job, Mr. Evans!

1 HELL OF A RIDE
1st my reviews are 100% SPOILER FREE!! < read & reviewed by Meshelly for my personal pleasure>

With that out of the way ~ WOW what a rollercoaster of emotions throughout this entire story. This was my 1st full length read by Steve and i am already waiting for book two.
Steve has a way with words that are, in fact, intoxicating. He is able to pull you in within the 1st sentence and keep you hanging on. His descriptive nature had me feeling like I myself was in the book as a bystander just watching the whole thing play out right next to me. Man he is a GREAT STORYTELLER.

As I said this is spoiler free; however who is it that is haunting his dreams at night? Why do these dreams begin happening while he is awake? Is it his family coming from the beyond to show him the way, could this be just a trick of his own creation, or something much more sinister? Will good prevail or will evil and darkness consume his already lost soul?

I'm a hard sell on a 5 star review and yet this is such an easy choice for me to make ~ 5 emotional and relatable STARS

A heartbreaking tale of loss

This book is different than any other book I have ever read. I did have a herder time getting into it at the beginning. But, I think that is my OCD. I was having issues with the different size fonts from chapter to chapter. Having to change my sizing on my Kindle. The book itself is about a man. After a tragic car accident his wife and young daughter are killed. Having huge issues coping with their death he does what he thinks is right. He wants to follow. It is a wild ride.

A man's world is turned upside down when his wife and daughter are killed in a car accident.
This is a heart wrenching read that at points brought tears to my eyes. The description of his emotions and decent in to darkness are spot on, you actually feel them yourself. I would definitely recommend this book to my friends, but warn you to have tissues nearby.
I volunteered for a eBook copy for my honest review.

Amazing

Wow !! As a fan of horror and the things that go bump in the night, I was very impressed with this book . It just reached out and held me in its clutches to the very end . A tortured soul and a vengeful spirit make for an awesome read. Mr Evans has just found himself a new fan !!

Daddy’s Angel was a haunting story that left me wanting more. A tragic event decimates the main character sending him to a seemingly idyllic spot that turns out to be a special kind of hell for him. The imagery that is used in the story makes you feel as if you are in the pages of the story as you watch it play out. A fantastic read that I will definitely read again.

Not my usual

Steve Evans is an amazing poet and his depth of emotion also shows in his story. The realism he created put me with this poor man in his torment which will bring you to tears.

Steve Evans is a new author to me and I had no idea what to expect when I read this book. I have always been a fan of darker books and this book exceeded all my expectations.

It had all the elements I look for in a book: a powerful storyline, developed characters, thoroughly explained emotions, and most of all-- it was suspenseful and once I started reading it I had to finish the whole book immediately.

I felt all the emotions that he went through when his whole life was ripped from him and the extreme turmoil and distress that occurred as well. This is a must read for anyone whom enjoys an excellent dark read.

Quote from the book
"For some living is a daily struggle. There is no peace or joy waiting for them. Their days are spent in sorrow and their nights in torment. Their loneliness guides them and their sadness isolates them. They long for a sweet release, a release that can only be found in DEATH!"

Loved it.

Wow! this was such an amazing book, right from the beginning you could feel the raw pain of the main character. He has lost everything that means anything too him. I was torn between wanting to kick his butt, for wanting to leave this world and understood why he did. He was so sad and and depressed. He believed drinking his life away would help. The beginning was so tragically beautiful and then the author put an element of paranormal into the book. I was in love. I love paranormal and dark. This book had everything for me. A wonderful read. I highly recommend it. Bravo, Steven.

What a twist

I really enjoyed this book. The love he had for his wife and ill girl was so strong. The journey he suffers and endures is heartbreaking. Yet when he hears that message from his dead daughter it gives him strength to go on and find a way to get his life back. This book had me at page 1 and had me up all night reading. Definitely a must have. It's full of suspense, and some thrilling twists to it.

This a heart rending story of a man who loses his family and suffers so deeply with guilt and grief, that he tries to end his life through addiction. His grief and sorrow are so deep, he garners the attention of a demon who also suffered greatly. The emotions written in this story are palpable and feel like they are written from personal experience.

Wow what a roller-coaster ride of feelings and suspense. This was an amazing book and i'm glad I was given it to read. Mr. Evans is very clear in his writing and it feels like you are there watching everything unfold right in fight of you. His characters feel so real and you go from wanting to kick the main character's butt to wanting to hold him and tell him everything will be alright in the end. Since this was listed as book one I assume there are others to follow and I can't wait to read them as well.

This is such a heartbreaking tale. The nighates are horrible. I feel so horrible for him. Survivors guilt is one of the worst things to go through! I do understand a bit of how he feels! Need to get more of this story!

Bravo, Steven Evans!
