Step through the door, and get a Glimpse into a new world. This thrilling anthology includes twenty-two stories, written by some of today’s most talented authors.
Be tempted and fascinated with peeks into worlds of Ghosts, Vampires, and Fantasy, to Crime and Science Fiction.
Many of these short stories are brand new, penned just for Glimpse, and features bestselling authors Michael Anderle (The Kurtherian Gambit series), Sarah Dalton (The Blemished), and Kindle Scout winner Debbie Cassidy (Sleeping Gods Series), plus nineteen more cutting edge authors enamored with telling stories and sharing them with YOU.
As an anthology, of course it's a mixed bag. There were some stories I really enjoyed, while others I wasn't so enthusiastic about. I'll mention the best here, but other readers may find their preferences lean elsewhere. Being that the anthology is free, though, it's worth risking wading through the stories you don't enjoy to find the gems you do.
These ones were excellent (5 stars, really!): --Found by C.B. Stone - This is an intriguing dystopian about Miriam, a girl on a base with nothing better to do than break the rules, and she finds a room full of banned material that calls her name. --A Moment in the End by David R. Bernstein - A dystopian/sci-fi about a girl named Leeyah (great name :D ) with the ability to "push" thoughts and attitudes on others. She's part of a large corporation with secret assignments to help improve the positioning of the company. And of course, the company is taking care of her and her family, so it's worth it, right? --Rebels and Thieves: A White Hart Story by Sarah Dalton - This is a fantasy about Mae, a girl with a power she keeps hidden, and her and her father's struggle with a group of ruffians who have a keen eye on the white stag that chose Mae and her father.
I'm finished for now, simply because I got the book to read Michael Anderle's Kurtherian Gambit prequel. Unfortunately it's a very short, truncated piece of a story rather than a story. There was no cliff hanger, per se, but it did leave me feeling like I only read the opening chapter.
I'm not sure if that is what the rest of this anthology is, just little teaser tastes, but if so then I can't say that I recommend it. I may come back to it to "taste" some of the other authors' work, and see if it is as the first story in terms of length.
I can't say that I enjoy this sort of marketing. I've never really been one for non-consensual titillation.
What I loved about this compilation was that the stories were really short, which was excellent as that made it a great read during a short break. Some of the stories were good, some a little plain, and others just so badly written, and really painful to read, that I wondered how exactly they made it into the final cut. All in all it was a good little mix that entertained me for a little while.
I found some stories that had that flavor I craved. I found more that, while good enough, were not the tales to delight me. I, like a prospector, care naught for the rocks that don't fit my template for treasure. I still squee with excited amazement when I pickup the gems I treasure. A certain vampire's origin story was one of the gems.
All awesome stories! I loved each and every one. If you are looking for something to read, this finite the bill. You may find some new favorite authors.
Yet another book remember reading and rating but on amazon; it was short stories from what I remember, multiple writers, and very interesting. No idea what date read it but will just click today. Nice group of stories and writers.
Eclipse of the Missing by J.L. Hendricks: 5 stars Quick story about a missing friend, monsters, and heroes. DeeDee is wonderful. It seems like it might make a great novel or series. I enjoyed it.
Honor in Death by Michael Anderle: 3 stars A rather grim and ominous story. Perhaps this is a precursor of another story but that was not made clear. Perhaps this was just the moments thought of the author. Also unclear. It seems more like an introduction than a full story. Clarity of purpose is definitely not its purpose.
I've not read any of these authors previously but through these stories, I've bought books written by many of them. These stories were refreshing, unique, very well written, and a great change from my usual reading.
I must admit this isn't a typical genre that I usually read. I gave it a good go and some of the stories I liked better than others. I didn't care for the language in a few of the stories.
