Angela Asgard's Assassin #3

Angela: Asgard's Assassin #3

Rate this book
The Tenth Realm of Heven crashes into Vanaheim! We're going to Vanaheim for adventures, fun, and bleak existential horror! Does Loki join the pursuit of Angela and her tiny, diaper-wearing charge? Well, we'd have to be really cruel to mention him here if he's not going to turn up. Plus, find out why saying "all good angels go to heaven" would get you stabbed by Angela. She's a little touchy on the topic of the afterlife.

This reader is glad that Angela still considered the Guardians of the Galaxy as her friends, because Starlord and his crew lend a helping hand to our trio of fugitives. The Odinson's pursuit has ceased for now, all because Angela got an armor upgrade that averted Heimdall's all-seeing eyes.

The reader's questions regarding Angela's mysterious companion are answered by the character in a flashback monologue sequence. She's a male "angel" who identifies as a she. Apparently, she likes making a lot of secret deals and is a capable sorcerer.

My main reaction to this book so far is that it has a terrible depiction of Thor, but I'm staying on because it has an interesting story and because of Stephanie Hans illustrations.

In a last ditch effort to evade Thor, Angela and Sera escape to Vanaheim and right into the hands of a group of dark elves. But Angela makes quick work of the rogue band and the reason for the diversion becomes apparent... the temple holds the key to something Angela can use to avert Heimdall's gaze. The duo then makes it to the Moon to await the Guardians and buy Sera and the new heir to Asgard passage on the Guardians' ship, something Quill is reluctant to provide until Sera reasons with him by means of cleverly built backstory. That glimpse into Angela and Sera's past and explanation of their story was easily my favorite part of the whole issue because Angela didn't look so much like a robot void of emotion- she was capable of feeling loss and mourning. Now that I understand the relationship between them a little better, I'm looking forward to issue #4 but I really, really want to see more of the why behind Angela kidnapping her baby sister.

This series is young at its third issue, and I have been waiting for that first issue to come through that finally bursts forth as something I can point to that says "This is what Angela: Asgard's Assassin" is all about.

She's still being chased down by Thor, but it also turns out that she has a heart that has sacrificed for what she loves!

Angela is a strange character, raised in a culture with some seriously screwed up values. It makes for good science fiction, but it takes some warming up to wrap one's head around it. But I think we're finally at that point, with a glimpse into the history between Angela and her dearest friend Sera.

It is with this issue that Angela's story finally leaps away from the She-Ra The Movie / Red Sonja mash up feel that had put some serious drag on my excitement for this book. No that there's anything wrong with that mash up, because I would absolutely read that. But Angela is complicated, and a little crazy. She is definitely driven by very different things than either of those iconic lady warriors, and that difference is the story I've been waiting for.

Kieron Gillen starts in this book to make good on that promise.

The text just keeps getting blockier, leaving action out. It's still an intriguing story, but it seems it's just a setup to introduce the character and her story more than it's about doing much of anything. "Now here's a bit of background," has happened in all three so far, and then you see a little of the escape with the child. It's fine, except the escape is all rushed, and then the past is slowly bogged down by the amount of story they have to get into a few pages. It doesn't flow as well, there needs to be a happy medium.
But yes, still 4 because to be honest, I'm still highly intrigued and can't wait to know more.

This issue! I absolutely loved it. There are so many pivotal things that happen in this issue. We find out more about Angela and Sera's backstory which is a sweet thing to read. Not only that but this issue presents a trans character AND a shiny new armour. The angel finally wears clothes!

I liked the writing a lot more in this issue, it flows a lot better. Also there's a real nice treat for Marvel fans in this issue which had me geek squealing with glee.

All-in-all an awesome issue and easily the best so far.

The best issue yet. Not only does it reveal one of its main characters as trans, it does so in a way that feels right with the story and gives insight to the bond between Angela and Sera. Then it takes that relationship and puts it through the worst kind of scenario, revealing more about Angela's character and drawing emotion without being too dramatic. I hope this series keeps the good stuff coming!

This comic continues to improve, but part of me wishes that the motivation for the story wasn't laid out in such a Hansel&Gretel/breadcrumb sort of way. Please just tell me what purpose the baby has for her. Nevertheless, I'll continue reading. I still enjoy the art, and this cover is especially stunning.

Well then. I enjoyed this one much more than the last issue. The intensity picked back up and the flow wasn't killed by excessive blocks of text. Good stuff.
