THE CYBORG Celine Velmann’s never seen the sky. Her entire life, she’s lived in the Wastelands, where brutal dust storms that fill the sky are a way of life. She’s always dreamed of the stars that she’s only seen in pictures, but even her infallible robotic arm can’t craft the technology to get into orbit, so she’s stuck on the ground.
When she sees a ship crash, Celine’s drawn toward it like a magnet — maybe this is the chance she’s always hoped for, the chance to escape her dusty life for something more. But when the hatch opens to reveal a half-dead but handsome human, she thinks twice.
After all, her father’s warned her that humans are dangerous. That, if they could, they’d kill every last one of Celine’s kind.
THE PRINCE Ben’s never been good at anything but flying, but in the air, he’s the best there ever was. When the King — Ben’s father — orders all flights in the city grounded, he’s left stir-crazy and starved for action. Crazy enough to steal a ship and volunteer for a desperate, doomed, last-resort mission straight into the gaping maw of the Wasteland.
A day later he wakes up in a hospital bed, broken and bruised. The only thing he can remember about the Wasteland is a beautiful woman with vivid eyes, a soothing voice... and a mechanical arm.
Everyone knows cyborgs are just a legend, something parents tell their kids about to keep them in line. But when a beautiful, familiar woman shows up in the City, Ben finds her very intriguing. Things go off the rails quickly when Ben’s city is exposed to the punishing dust and Celine realizes her family is in the crosshairs of a vengeful alien.
Can Ben and Celine overcome age-old prejudice to discover happiness together and save the planet, or will fear and suspicion get the best of them and doom them all?
The Prince and the Cyborg is 51,000 words of thrilling, page-turning, romance with strong themes of self-acceptance and adventure. This book contains NO harsh language, explicit violence, or graphic romance scenes. It is an adult romance, but is suitable for older YAs as well. I hope you enjoy!

J.M. Page writes timeless fairytales with a sci-fi twist. You can expect sweeping adventures in far-off galaxies, love in unexpected places, and of course a Happily Ever After every time!
A sci-fi retelling of the Little Mermaid that's how I saw the author describe this book in a group I am part of and it caught my attention. The Little Mermaid was always one of my favorite Disney movies and retelling it as a sci-fi story sounded great. Combine that with my current mood for sci-fi romances and it seemed a good idea to buy this one. The prince and the Cyborg is a fun fairytale retelling and while I normally stay away from fairytale retellings I am glad I picked this up and gave it a try.
The story is told from Celine and Ben their point of views. Celine is a dreamer, she dreams of seeing the sky, but she's stuck in underground tunnels with the rest of the cyborgs. She fights for what she wants even when it's dangerous. Then there is Ben who is a prince who loves flying, but is stuck on the ground due to a government issues grounding. At the start I wasn't sure if I was going to like this one. The writing felt a bit chunky? It's hard to explain, but I had some trouble getting into the story, but as the story progressed it only got better and better. And by the end I was sad to see the book end and am looking forward to read more by this author.
One of the small issues I had with The Prince and the Cyrbog was that at times you really noticed the hints to the tale it was based on, a bit too much for my taste. This is the reason why I normally don't read fairytrale retelling as it seems like it's just retelling an already existing story. And at times that's pretty much what this novel felt like. There are scenes that feel so familiar, even sentences that felt almost exactly the same as in the movie and the character all could be lead back to who they are in The Little Mermaid. And twist I could predict almost exactly because they were so in tune with what happened in The Little Mermaid.
So that's the part I struggled with a bit, but as the story progressed I also got a better eye for the differences. Celine isn't like Ariel, she can actually talk and tell the prince of her hopes and dreams. Rufus might be like Flounders, but he can travel with Celine to the walled city. And the sci-fi elements gave everything an original touch as well. And then towards the end it felt the story deviated more from the original story as well. So it took me some time to look over the similarities to see the differences, but when i did I enjoyed it a lot more.
So I did end up enjoying this book for the most part even though I struggled with the retelling parts and writing at first. The story got smoother and more original as it progressed and it did keep my attention. I liked the world the author build with the cyborgs who live out in the tunnels and the rest of the citizens live in a big walled city and can travel to space.
I would've liked to get more of a feel for the technology and everyday life, but I was able to create a good mental image of the planet and the city, so that was nice. It did feel like a few scenes could've been expanded on a bit and things that went a bit too easy or a tad rushed towards the end. And I would've liked to get to know the villain a bit better. At first she didn't seem as nasty, but at the end it just left me wondering why she acted that way and how she had planned things. There also is a fun epilogue that shows what happens afterwards.
I did like the main characters and the dual point of view worked great to get to know both Celine and Ben. They both have enough depth to make them interesting and I also felt like these two really connected with each other, not only because she saved him but they also got to know each other and had things in common. Also while that cover with the half naked man might suggest otherwise, this is a sweet romance story. There's some kissing, but that's it. I enjoyed reading about Celine and Ben and follow their story and see them fall in love.
To summarize: I enjoyed reading this book, although I struggled with the start a bit. The writing felt a bit off at first and I had some trouble seeing past the similarities with The Little Mermaid, but as the story progressed that both got better. And at the end I was really enjoying this book and am curious to see what this author writes next! The sci-fi setting was interesting and I liked the main characters. Both have enough depth to make them interesting and it was fun to see them fall for each other. Add in some fun side characters and a interesting desert planet setting that was easy to visualize and this was a fun read.
I just read J. M. Page's Beauty and the Space Beast, and was underwhelmed. However, when The Prince and the Cyborg was included for free at the end of that book, I figured I'd give it a try. I'm so glad that I did. The Prince and the Cyborg was wonderful! It has great world building, adventure, and intrigue. I really enjoyed it.
I didn't realize that this was a "Little Mermaid" retelling until I recognized the quote about the MC wanting to be "part of their world." I didn't stick around long enough to see whether this takes the Disney happy-ending approach or the original depressing one. Cool idea, but DNF for now as it has yet to grab me as of 39%. Putting it on my "maybe later" shelf, for a rainy day.
Celine is our young lady cyborg, scraping out an existence in the dust-laden wasteland. She tinkers with robots and gadgets, but her dream is to fly.
Prince Bennett lives in a walled city with a force-field to keep the dust out. He flies – but not now, as his father the king has grounded everyone, not minding the strain this puts on his subjects. Ben has a friend who will lose a leg without teranite, and he steals a ship to make a teranite run. He crashes and would have died, if not saved by our intrepid Celine.
Celine thought the city was a rumor – but intrigued by Ben, gives up something so she can enter the city. This action puts the entire planet at risk. Can two diverse cultures work together to save the planet – and can our young heroes find happiness amidst the chaos?

It only appears Ben and Celine come from the same world
Ben and Celine's lives are so different it would be easy to believe they came from different worlds, but they meet when Ben crashes in the barren no man's land between their two societies. The more these two charismatic characters got to know one another, the more I liked them. Each of them are caring, compassionate souls, with a leader's heart, and by the end of this story I found myself hoping there is more, in some form, in this Universe. I also particularly enjoyed the bartender, he was a well used character, and his friendship with Ben showed so much more than we ever could have been told about the character.
I was gifted with a copy of this story, and switched to the Kindle Unlimited version when it was published.
This is a different take on the cyborg and Human stories, by a new Author J. M. Page and I will be looking for more of her books.Celine Velmann has a robotic arm and has never seen the sky she lives in the Wastelands where dust storms keep the sky from being seen, she sees a spaceship crash and goes to investigate . The human male she finds in the crash is Prince Ben , he has gone against his Father’s wishes to try and save his friend Alex who is in pain from his diseased leg. Will Ben find away to save his friend ? What happens when Celine comes to the city? What is the evil stalking their planet? Will they get a happy ending?
The Prince and the Cyborg by J.M. Page is a fun, sweet, and romantic space fairy-take about Ben, a prince, who sets out for the Wasteland on a mission to pick up teranite to save his friend's leg. However, a crash almost leaves him at death's door if not for the help of a cyborg named Celine. When these two characters meet again in the city, the story begins to fly. Star-crossed lovers, one human and another a cyborg, will these two be able to find happiness though the odds are against them?
I enjoyed The Prince and the Cyborg and loved that we got both main characters point of views. I can't wait to read more by this author. Happily recommend for anyone who loves romance and fairy-tales.
I just loved this story. It is well written and the characters are great. It contains challenges, looking different, mystery, betrayal and love. It is a story that holds your interest from start to finish. Prince Ben escapes to the wasteland for medicine for his friend and a challenge. Celine is a mod hunting parts in the wasteland above her home. Will these to meet? Who is Scorpia? Will they be able to help each others people fight the fear of mods? It is a definite must read at 5 stars. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was a really good sci-fi novel with a romantic twist. I loved Celine as the heroine in the story and how she is willing to do the right thing even when it is not easy. She helps Ben get back to the city after he crashes. I was also intrigued by the lengths she was willing to go to so she would fit in while in the city. I really loved how Ben ended the threat for both the city and the caverns that the modders lived in. I would love to see another story in this setting from this author in the future.
A very sweet romantic space fairy tale. The characters will make you remember Ariel the mermaid. This time the mermaid is a cyborg and the prince is the human she saves. She has the overprotective father and of course a villain that tricks her.
The story is great for young adults and adults. Highly recommend if you like fairy tales or space romances.
What a interesting and entertaining read. At first it kinda remains me of the Little Mermaid in a strange way only because Celine was just as curious and wanting to explore just like Ariel, and having her friend a little bot call Rufus to get into mischief just like Ariel who had Flounder. I don't want to give to much way just know that you'll enjoy this read as much as I did. I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
Just a note that I started and never finished this book. I had borrowed it on KU and began it but kept putting it aside. As other things cropped up that I wanted to read more, I decided to check it back in. It wasn't bad but just didn't grab me right then; I may return to it later. It has a sort of Little Mermaid theme that I just wasn't feeling right then.
I really Enjoyed it ! A good mix of romance, action and adventure, lots going on & there's some nice light hearted humour all the way through the story. A Really Sweet Sci Fi with a little romance thrown in along the way. Celine's little robot Rufus is adorable :)
Arc review for honest review . Celine and Ben both come from both inside and outside the city but when they meet things change. This story has lots of adventure. Good
I am usually all about a retelling of fairy tales into new books, but for some reason I just couldn't get behind this as a retelling of the Little Mermaid. It seemed like this was the Disney version being retold and I just had a hard time with it. Someone else might not have a problem so don't let it stop you. For some reason I just couldn't get into it.
