If I Could Turn Back Time

Rate this book
We all make mistakes, do things we regret. But sometimes, the mistake is so big that the regret chips away at you on a daily basis. What ifs and if onlys circle through your head like a broken record, driving you crazy. You feel as if there’s nothing you wouldn’t do for just one chance to go back and do things different.
What if you did get the opportunity? Would you take it?
Hi, my name is Sara. I'm in my fourth year of college and it's midterms week – the week before Winter Break...and two weeks before the fourth anniversary of my big screwup. It's Monday, my Sociology instructor isn't here, and taking his place is a middle aged sub who introduces herself as Beatrice Bomgarten. She's a little odd, but she isn't giving us a test, so it's cool. Instead, she turns on CNN, and a breaking news story – and that's where shit gets weird.
Next thing I know, I'm waking up in my old bedroom, back in my senior year of high school...two weeks before I made the choice that impacted the rest of my life. Only, in my head, I'm still a twenty-two year old college student with all my memories intact. I don't know how it happened, but I'm being given a chance for a do-over, an opportunity to turn back time and change the past. God, I hope I don't screw it up.

OK… so… I bet you’re all thinking what screw-up is our Sara regretting for 4 years, day after day after day… I did too and that’s why I accepted a copy of this book directly from the author for an honest review. We find out about the regretful actions quite early on. I really don’t want to give anything else away, but some readers may find it a dark, touchy subject. HEA though, hey!

If I Could Turn Back Time is a quick reading novella and we find out about the regretful actions early on. Essentially it was a really good read, it progressed at a good pace and balanced out the sad with the well deserved HEA ending. We meet Sara’s BF who dies but then doesn’t. We meet Sara’s mom who has a serious bone to pick with the BF’s mom (men, natürlich!) We meet Sara’s brother who has substance misuse issues and at a glimpse I got a good giggle thanks to a once off character from Sara’s class. Every classroom has a chancer, after all. Despite the shortness of the story it was easy to connect with characters fully.

If I Could Turn Back Time is short and sweet, with a happy ending. Don’t expect any kind of terrific plot twist.
The title gives you a clue to the plot and, although it certainly isn’t unique, writer Cindy Cowles writes our protagonist, Sara, into a likable young woman. Although a few of the others characters feel like sketches and not yet fully fleshed out.
If I Could Turn Back Time is worth a read.

Cindy’s short story takes the ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ divine intervention and applies it to regrets of love lost and family death. The premise is interesting enough to start reading.

Readers beware; the topics involved / sources of regret may cause people to react vehemently. In addition, there is a forced feeling to the conversations and interactions that were almost accepted carte blanche. It is easy to lose immersion and flow.

Ultimately, this story’s value will appeal to people with deep traumas that they wish to undo. Everything leads up to a happy ending. This story will resonate with a few purely for the topic, but it did not appeal to me.

I was provided an advanced review copy (ARC) of this fiction in exchange for an honest review.

If you have ever suffered from the "what ifs" then this book is perfect for you! I was blown away by how in depth I felt involved with the characters in such a short time. I wish this were a full-length novel (okay, I'll be honest, a series!). I got in deep when the substitute started talked and Sara started 'confessing' all about her life and choices from four years back. I loved that when she did 'leap back' that she kept all of her knowledge and experiences from those years to help her make better decisions. I was really moved a few times.

ARC provided in exchange for honest review.

I absolutely loved this refreshingly original twist on the "if only I could go back and fix my biggest regret" storyline. Sarah has that chance, but will she be able to do so?

This plot of this novel deals with something many of us likely wish we had the opportunity to do – to go back in time, but still know what we know now, so we have a second chance to make different decisions about something we regret. The premise of the plot is what attracted me to read this novel, as the storyline sounded very interesting and relatable, despite the fantasy elements which are necessary to make the story believable. I enjoyed the story and was glad to have come across this novel, especially considering what you get for the low price of the book. The author gives readers a novel full of drama, romance and action, but the storyline has a lot of depth and meaning to it also. The main character of Sara is relatable and likable. The book is fairly short so it can easily be read in one sitting or over a lazy weekend, and the plot is compelling enough to do so. If you are looking for an easy, light, yet meaningful read which has good elements of imagination and fantasy then you can’t go wrong with this novel.

It all begins with a young girl telling her story after a news broadcast announced the official death of a local celebrity, whom she actually dated in high school.

Everyone knows you can’ alter the past. But what if you could? Would you make the same fateful choice that changed your life forever?

Sara has been grappling with guilt ever since she had an abortion, which has been her biggest regret ever. Now, she’s woken up and is back in her senior year of high school with a chance to do it over again. Will she make the same decision?

Quick and to the point, this story is simple tale of longing and remorse. The concept was nice, but I feel like it lacked conflict as well as a back story. How did Sara get transported back in time? We never really find out. But, overall, this was an okay read.

One of the greatest limitations of man is time, once it passes you can never get it back.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be given a second chance at life, a clean slate to rewrite some of your actions especially the ones you regret the most? I personally have imagined such an opportunity but I have given up on the possibility of that, as the saying goes “learn to accept the things you can’t change”.

Sara Beth Brown was given a rare chance to correct the mistakes of her past. A substitute instructor walks into Sara’s classroom and addresses the class, informing them that Mr Price(their instructor) would not be available because he was unexpectedly called away. Beatrice Bongarten; the substitute instructor puts on a flat screen television and tunes to CNN. The news of Sara’s ex-boyfriend’s death is broadcasted on CNN before her very eyes, it hits her really hard and floods her heart with regrets. She eventually wakes up in her past and is given the opportunity to correct her mistakes. Will she choose the same choices that affected her future?

This book is just wow! It actually deals with major issues that affects everyone like regrets, mistakes and second chance. If I Could Turn Back Time puts your imagination to work which makes you feel like you are watching the events play out before your very eyes.

This book is a short story that is straight to the point with no unnecessary additions. Cindy Cowles told a capturing story with very few and clear words. I easily connected with this book and it was obvious that Cindy Cowles wrote from the heart and enjoyed herself while doing so.

p>If you are looking for a short story with love and mystery? Then this is a must read. This is one of the best books I’ve read this year, I kept wanting more of this book till the end and I look forward to more books from Cindy Cowles. I rate this book 5 stars.
