My Feet is a super cute book all about the anatomy and function of our feet! Written in an easy to understand tone, and including information about our feet and what they do for us, this book is perfect for teaching younger children about their bodies.
I liked the pace of this book, the cute illustrations, and the way the words bounced around like footprints on the page.
I think this book would be valuable in a kindergarten classroom, or even first grade, so kids could learn the names of the different parts of their feet and also be encouraged to be active and "on their feet" in their daily lives.
Title: My Feet Author: Aliki Genre: Concept Book Theme(s): Friends, Cooperation, Feet Opening line/sentence: I have two feet. My feet are the part of my body I stand on. Brief Book Summary: Aliki uses lots of different children to show the many different uses for our feet. He describes how they are good for hopping, skipping, marching, and many other fun activities. The story ends by giving the child’s feet a rest after the long day of using them. Professional Recommendation/Review #1: Horn Book- Aliki, My Feet 32 pp. HarperCollins ISBN 0-690-04813-0 PE ISBN 0-690-04815-7 (2) K-3 Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science series. In this colorful beginning science book, a multiethnic group of children examines the parts and functions of feet. The simple, lively text calls attention to a part of the body often taken for granted. Professional Recommendation/Review #2: CLCD- Dr. Beverly Kobrin (Children's Literature) Preschool and primary-graders have the first-rate "Let's-Read-and-Find-Out" titles to turn to for information about their physiological selves: Among them, author/artist Aliki's, My Hands, I'm Growing, My Five Senses, and My Feet. In the latter, a variety of kids are shown in activities that use their feet--running, jumping, walking, hopping, and they are shod in an assortment of footware. 1990, HarperCollins, $15.00, $14.89 and $4.95. Ages 2 to 7. (PUBLISHER: Crowell (New York:), PUBLISHED: 1990.) Response to Two Professional Reviews: I like how the Horn Book review talks about how the story is a group of multiethnic children that examine feet. This is very accurate and I think that having the children be multiethnic is a very cool touch to the book. I also agree that the feet are a body part that is taken for granted. Also, the CLCD review describes exactly how the children use all different kinds of activities with their feet. Evaluation of Literary Elements: The sentences in this story are short and to the point. The bright pictures make the story fun and easy to read. The sentences are sometimes split up between the pages, which make a longer sentence even shorter. Since the story is mainly about feet, it is descriptive when talking about the different used of them. Consideration of Instructional Application: In my classroom I could use this book to describe all of the different uses of our feet. I could have my children try everything that the children in the book do at the same time as I read them in the book. I could also have my students think of other uses for their feet and we could write them all on the board.
Great book. I remember books like these would always be found in my doctor's office. I remember my doctor would always read us a book before he gave a shot. When my little brother was born our Doctor read him this book because he needed to wear special shoes for his feet. Even at that moment, it made my brother calm and he learned all about his feet. What an awesome book! It is straight to the point and it is not complicated. When I read this book I think of my brother and his feet.
I am going to be reading this to a group of kids 1 and older. With the details and fun things kids can do with their feet, I believe that this will be perfect for them!
This book is about feet. It tells you what makes up the foot and all the things you can so with your feet. This book would be good for k-1st. I think this would be good for a science/body lesson.
