The insta-love. The perfect couple. The enchanted fairy tale.
The concept of ‘happily ever after’ on reality TV is beautiful, but it’s complete B.S.
I mean, I get the appeal.
The One is the most watched reality TV dating show because it sells the idea that two people “randomly” handpicked by producers will fall in love and ride off into the sunset. We are expected to believe that after having a group of women embarrass themselves for the affection of a man on national television, the bachelor and the chosen one fall in love and they live happily ever after.
Let’s be honest.
Shows like The One are really about fantasy romance and must-see entertainment—not happily ever afters. That’s why the creators and producers don’t show what happens after the exotic getaways, lavish lifestyles, and over-the-top proposals. Even though reality TV relationships never last, they want us to buy into the fairy tale.
Truth is… when the cameras stop rolling, the number one killer of reality TV couples is real life.
"...I want to give you your dream wedding.” My heart swelled. “The wedding isn’t the dream. You are.” -Julian and Zoe
My fave reality T.V. couple are BACK! Annnnnd I'm definitely SWOONING over them right now!
In After The One we find Zoe and Julian in a good place. Both living their dreams in career, love and more importantly enjoying one another. After being on tour for a few months, Julian returns home and is just as excited as Zoe to be back in one another's arms. However the night of his arrival the two are hit with a reality neither saw coming.
Soooo here is where I must be careful to not give anything away. Bare with me as I graze over the story a little. It doesn't take long for things to fall in place for this couple but then Julian receives some news they were honestly hoping to avoid. This unfortunately alters the plans they've made and moving forward all they can do is deal with it.
Even though things happen fast these two love each other. It's their love that holds them together through all the BS thrown their way. Because trust me, with all that begins to happen you will surely want to punch a few people in the face and/or throat.
Fave line "He lied to me and said he was meeting a colleague and he met Lucifer’s sister.” - Koko
Thoughts The motives from someone in Zoe and Julian's past come into play and sadly there was not much they could do about it. So if you read book 2 and you're trying to figure out how the love boat for these two can possibly be rocked that's how, motives. Once more I found the story was bursting with additional colorful characters that played their parts very well, so much so it rivals book one. Julian's friends plus Zoe's friends make for some truly fun times.
Allen had a few turns that will either have readers eyes bulging or have readers emotionally sighing aloud and it could be in shock or frustration. Overall I enjoyed it! Especially with so many great elements being thrown in like the words of wisdom from the parents, his friends linking up with her friends, the blunt honesty thrown in from a former contestant and of course the poetry❤️ And did I mention Lenny and James?!? HOLY HORNINESS! LOL!! Those two? WHOA!
To buy or Not to buy? GO Buy!! Series: Yes, this is book 2 in The One (a two book) Series. Recommendation: I HIGHLY recommend to alllll romance lovers! Plot/Storyline: This story had a few turns that will catch readers off guard, good doses of one on one with the main characters and was once again bursting with colorful characters that played their parts very well. Writing: Funny, Romantic and at times sugary sweet but I honestly loved that! Steam factor: High, on a scale of 1-10 I say a solid 8
Sometimes we have to go with the flow because life does not follow our plan, it has a mind of its own.
If you are not acquainted with Julian and Zoe, I suggest you get your act together and experience a love that will leave you jealous as well as hopeful. As I was reading this story I felt as if I was in a theater watching a movie that would hands down leave me crying and wanting what they had, all while eating Skittles. I didn't want the book to end so I called myself taking my time in turn reading because I just couldn't get enough.
Julian and Zoe relationship and journey displayed: understanding, devotion, love, trust, compromise, spontaneity, and severe sexual tension. When reading this all you can say is "relationship goals". They set the bar higher than their oarents did for them. It was like a Disney fairytale come to life without the prince being a frog, beast, or a royal figure. Julian was a man, one devoted to providing for his woman as well as making all her dreams come true. He was her support, her rock, and her protector. All those attributes were complimented by an understanding, devoted, supportive, and level headed woman. Zoe was a bad woman. She held her ground and never allowed jealousy show when time were questionable. She stood strong and believed, chose to talk instead of accuse and fight. That is what made them work and so damn adorable.
I totally suggestion you get on the Winters train and sit and enjoy the series from premier to finale.
I so so so so loved the first book in this series!! And I was so so so so looking forward to the next book based on the blurb. But to my utter disappointment, the blurb had nothing to do with what happens in the book.
You see, in the first book, the main characters fall for each other during the filming of a bachelor type reality tv show. So when the blurb for After The One said...
"Truth is… when the cameras stop rolling, the number one killer of reality TV couples is real life. And life just got REAL."
I assumed that the couple would encounter some ups and downs in their relationship OFF CAMERA. Thing is, everything OFF CAMERA was sickly sweet and romantic. IT WAS PERFECT!!!! It's when they were stupid enough to accept making their cherished wedding a reality TV show that all hell and crapshit happens. All they had to do is wait two months to have their own wedding. But because the heroine wanted to fit into her wedding dress because she was pregnant they accept the media circus into their lives again? REALLY? I mean... REALLY???? If that's not the dumbest reason, then it's completely vain. Heroine lost 90 IQ points for me right there.
And then the rest ends up being useless drama that test the heroines trust in the hero. And there's all kinds of shit going on that ends up being mindless filler that has no significance in the end goal. And that doesn't lend or lead the story to anything.
So 89% of the story ends up being pretty useless for me. I found my self skipping page upon page of mindless dialogue between the heroine and her friends.
And even though I really really love Julian and Zoe, (Especially Julian, he was just a dream on a stick that you wanna savour!!!), I think they would have benefitted from having some deeper dialogues. Most of the story they repeatedly just tell each other 'I love you'. I never read more I LOVE YOU's in any other book I think.
I find that the whole reality TV show premise KILLED this book! If it had been that She just got pregnant and was left alone to deal with her new job as an attorney while her boyfriend was off on tour doing shows for months at time and she was lonely and insecure and afraid and unwell and overworked, waiting to know if he would propose? Seeing social media shit about him??? I could see how that might test a new relationship IN REAL LIFE. And that's what I thought we would get. Not past contestants and ex girlfriends and ex boyfriends showing up at their wedding to sabotage shit. It just ended up being super childish wedding circus of confusion. And I know it could have been so much better. I wish Danielle Allen would rewrite this one and make EPIC!!! because, the love was really there. It was everything else that wasn't!

The One, the first book in the duet, should be read before After The One.
The first book was definitely better than this one. The beginning was strong! I loved seeing Julian and Zoe several years into being together after the reality show. The conflict was interesting and definitely tested whether they were truly on the same page. However, the second half surrounding the wedding really dragged for me.
Overall this was a fun duet for those who are fans of The Bachelor!
Holy freaking crap!!!! I didn't think that Julian and Zoe could get any more epic then the way The One ended..... But boy was I wrong!!! Ladies, you'll want to find your Julian after reading this book. He's perfect and absolutely everything! And Zoe, that girl loves her independence and I LOVE that about her! Right off the bat these two are tested in a very big way. And let me tell you, I expected goodness to happen. Goodness didn't happen, greatness happened! This entire story proved that true love can happen in many different forms. And that trust, no matter what trust is very important and if you can trust you can make it through just about anything. This was an epic read and I'm sad to have finished Zoe and Julian because I love them so! This series had my heart from the very beginning! What are you waiting for? Go one click!!
If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would! OMG where do I even start? I thought I loved Zoe and Julian in The One, but I love them even more.
First, let me say that if you haven't read The One, that's where you need to start. After The One picks up almost 2 years after The One and we get a more in depth look into Zoe and Julian's future. One thing that can never be denied is the love they both have to one another. No matter what they are going through, their love is stronger than ever.
Another thing I loved about them was their growth as individuals and as a couple. Real life experiences have come into play and how they deal with was amazing. Sure every couple will have hiccups, but it's how you deal with the situation that shows how strong you are together. We see some familiar faces from The One and I loved how Danielle incorporated them into this story.
The story flowed perfectly and you will fall in love with Julian Winters all over again. Danielle's writing as beautiful. Once you are done, you will want to find your own Julian and experience the love he and Zoe have, which is epic. I'm sorry to see their story end, but it was an experience to remember. You never know when and where you'll find love. When you find it, you hold on to it and cherish it. These two have been one of my favorite characters to read..
This is one series you need to read! I can't wait to see what Danielle has in store for us next :)
Its nearly 2 year after the show and Zoe & Julian are still head over heels with each other. But that doesn't mean that everything, everyday is always peachy.
Life has suddenly thrown some curve balls at them and they are faced with making some serious choices that will last a lifetime.
Having to be thrown back into the limelight because of the show does not sit well with either of them, and of course the main witches are back trying to interfere.
There are some interesting twist and turns in this story that I was not expecting. I got downright mad right along with Zoe's friends - that's when you know your reading a good book, when you catch yourself feeling the emotions you are reading.
And let me just end by saying I didn't think it was possible to love Julian anymore then I did after the first book, but I was WRONG, what he did was just...so amazingly full of love, he definitely raised the bar for romantic gestures.
As I said before about The One - Just Read It - you won't be sorry.
Two words. Julian Winters. Sweet baby Jesus, that man is everything. Deliciously sexy with a romantic poet's soul. Swoon...
Danielle sent us on a beautiful journey with Julian and Zoe and their real happily ever after, not the one on camera. It's a sexy as hell, well-written story of being strong enough to hold onto the one you love. This series is not to be missed!
****ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review****
When I heard Danielle was writing a continuation of Julian and Zoe's story from The One I was thrilled. And once again, her story did not disappoint.
What happens when the lights of the reality tv cameras are turned off and your relationship meets the real world? As, we see on a constant basis, (ahem, The Bachelor) we see that there are more failed relationship then lasting, but in After The One, Julian and Zoe's relationship couldn't be going any better. They are in love and know that they are in this for the long haul. But when something unexpected happens in their lives, their timeline is immediately speed up. In the midst of the unexpected, their reality tv past comes back to haunt them, with a vengeance. Old foes, past lovers, and a crazy producer tries to railroad Julian and Zoe's relationship but with the strength of their connections and love they try to navigate whatever is thrown at them.
Julian is still one of my favorite male characters. I mean, everyone should strive to find their own version of Julian. He is attentive to Zoe's needs and wants, and it's amazing to see their relationship flourish. And Zoe is ever the strong, confident woman. Throughout the story you root for their relationship, your heart pounds when drama tries to come in-between them and you swoon each and every time Julian and Zoe's expresses their love for each other. Add in their friends, especially Zoe's best friend Koko, and you will get a barrel of laughs.
After The One was a great conclusion to Julian an Zoe's story. The story had the right amount of swoon worthy moments, crazy sexual chemistry between Julian and Zoe and drama, which will satisfy a reality junkie and a book lover like myself. And I know I'm rooting for a Lenny/James and Koko/Bryce books! Danielle, another 5-star read!!!
This author just cannot write anything but 5 star reads in my opinion! This is book 2 which follows up after The One, the reality television show which Zoe reluctantly competes in after her BFF Koko enters her and she meets the man of her dreams, Julian Winters. Read this book first, it's wonderful! This is a follow-up of the real life happenings once the show is over.
This book shows the great love Julian and Zoe have for each other and what happens as they move forward after the show.
Julian, as always, makes your heart swoon!
"You are the music that beats in my heart, that guides my steps, that makes me whole. You are the music that inspires me, that captivates me, that drives me. You are the music I've been looking for to go with the lyrics in my heart."
I don't want to give any spoilers away and I didn't know what Ms. Allen could possibly come up with for this follow-up book, but she sure surprised me. The supporting characters, like her other books, are wonderful and I walk away with a feeling of love for them all. And I'd love to see Koko's story in the future. I loved her!!
"I'm serious," she giggled. "That 'don't go to bed angry' sh*t works and it's clearly working for you guys. I've been going to bed angry for weeks and I'm angry when I wake up and I'm angry when he calls and texts and pops up at my trailer.
There are some ups and downs in this book, surprises and times you will melt. There are also people from the past that will appear to make trouble and OMG, the producer of The One?
This author is amazing! Her characters are all wonderful and her writing very descriptive. I would highly recommend anything she has written and always look forward to her next release!
I liked it alright, but I'm not in love with it. It's well written and sweet. Its really more of a "its not my cup of tea" sort of thing. I personally found Julian and Zoe to be entirely too sweet for my liking. Maybe dare I say TOO in love? They just didn't feel real to me. Even when they were fighting it was filled with mushy sentiments of love and understanding. It came across as very one-dimensional. I would have liked to see them express something OTHER than love and niceness at SOME point throughout, but we really don't see it. I was hoping for more conflict and tension and just something MORE to keep me better interested.
This is all just me though. I prefer more meat to my stories, rather than a continuation of what we knew would happen. I'm sure I'll be in the minority on feeling this way. I still recommend you try it, as we all have different reading styles! There are a few things that piqued my interest more in various places, (Julian does the BEST THING but, I'm not telling you what!) But, it wasn't enough for me to bump this up higher.
After The One picks up almost 2 years after Julian and Zoe found true love on the reality dating show The One. Still passionately in love and unofficially living together they are so happy with where their life is. The future looks bright and they have many plans but then life throws a curveball at them. Life gets REAL and they face many complications on the road to their happily ever after. Zoe and Julian are still such a beautiful couple, and I was ecstatic to see what happens after the cameras are turned off. Visiting with Koko and some of the ladies from The One again was wonderful, and meeting the rest of their best friends was wonderful. This story flowed perfectly, and if not for my real life getting in the way I could've read this in one sitting. I hope we get more of this cast of characters!
Danielle is just amazing.. I read her work and always think how does her work keep getting better? Seriously y'all this gal will turn you into a love sick puppy and have you following her every book like she has me. In this book just like the last one, she will make you giggle out loud, cringe with anticipation, make you want to rip hair from the heads of some catty women but then just laugh at their stupidity. She keeps you guessing and rightfully so. I am gonna stop her because I get to telling to much at times and I don't want to ruin this book for you.
I absolutely adore Danielle's work and think you will too. Bravo once again Danielle for yet another awesome book!!!
This story was the continuation of Zoe and Julian's story. And let me saw the sexy sensual scenes between those two burned up the pages of my Kindle. It was nice to revisit with Koko and Keisha, they had me laughing anytime they graced the pages. Lenny was a hoot as well. I wish Zoe was more confident about all that she is.. And Julian worried me with the Lillian thingy.. I'm not sure I would not have used my hands on her. The One reunion and forced wedding was a nice plot twist. The story kept it interesting until the end. A great job Ms. Allen!
I really liked the first book... however, this continuation rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe because in the first book, Zoe and Julian's relationship was just developing? Now that they're fully settled into their relationship, all of the over-the-top love-dovey-ness and "I love you's" every 5 seconds made me roll my eyes. There was no real climax, no tension... no real issue to be resolved. This book is great if you want to lose yourself in a sugary-sweet perfect love story... but I think I this book just wasn't for me.
I really enjoyed this book. It was refreshing to see that Julian and Zoe were still in love and that their relationship was genuine. I loved their love for each other. The way that they loved each other was intense yet refreshing. I'm glad you included info about the cast from "The One" in the book but it didn't over power their story. Ms. Allen I was very pleased with how you pulled this off. This series gave an awesome spend on reality TV and how true love can be found and maintained even through the drama and chaos.
What a great book. I love Zoe and Julian and was super excited for the second book. They have such a beautiful love story. This book shows that sometimes life doesn't follow your plan and you have to go with the flow. They were such a strong couple that they were able to overcome their issues. I loved all of the characters in this book and would love to see them get their own book!
OMG! I so enjoyed this book. The Love that Zoe and Julian shared just leaped off the pages. Then the friendships. I laughed so much. That girlfriend thing made me contact my bestie. Then their family. Having great supportive parents. Great read. Oh and the part I will never forget is when Zoe said old boy's chest hair was eating his gold chain. I hollered.
What a perfect ending to a love story that may have never happened if it hadn't been for certain friendships and circumstances. A bit sappy at times but very employable, drama and all.
This was a good one. Julian and Zoe's love story continued. There were some surprises and drama but it was entertaining. I loved the supporting characters they really added to the story. A definite recommend
This was a continuation from The One and Zoe and Julian got roped into being on live TV again but this time it was their wedding.
I love these two together and it was so great to see how no matter what happened they worked out their issues. I love how this couple was written they faced real issues and instead of prettying it up because its a romance novel they went through it like a couple actually would in real life. I love how Zoe stood by her gut and trusted Julian with her everything because she could have spiraled and then assumed the wrong thing but her faith and trust in him was truly beautiful. They really are a strong and healthy couple.
I love that even though things happened unexpectedly they embraced the surprise and made it work. Their story is truly inspiring ❤️
Giiiiiirrrrrlllllllll, if I could've jumped through the pages of this book, I would have done it. I loved it. I want to snatch Leah and Tori by the hair, twist it around my wrist, and bag their heads like a ball and paddle. This is the thing I loved about this book series, it has the power to draw emotions out of you. Characters were well developed and very detailed. I was able to experience their personalities without descriptions because their parts were well written. I would recommend this series to anyone looking for a good read. Never judge a book by its cover. Every great author has their own unique twist on stories. In this story, he really did fine THE ONE!
Although a chance meeting for a reality tv show sparked an interest between the two, Zoe and Julian began a hot romance based on real feelings. The dealings of the reality show were interesting, but the book itself was an enjoyable read; the poetry was great! Both Zoe and Julian had great sets of parents and best friends which made for a great, fun and enjoyable read with some hot hookups lol.
