Dylan must face an entire convention of witches? It's enough to make a girl run for cover … except there's no place to go that they can't find her. Every time Dylan Apel casts a spell, disaster strikes—from conjuring a giant swarm of bloodsucking mosquitoes, to exploding the electrical grid. When witches flood her peaceful hometown for a convention, Dylan is in no shape to protect herself. She's not sure which will happen first--another witch killing her for her powers, or the ruling council punishing her for misuse of magic.
Murder strikes quickly. When a witchy gossip columnist dies, the peaceful convention turns riotous. Was the witch murdered for spreading lies, or for stealing magic? And was it coincidence that she ate Dylan's dessert? There is a mansion full of suspects, but only one man who can learn the truth—the hot, aggravating Roman Bane.
When the witches are ordered to stay until the murderer is found, Dylan decides Roman needs help, and she's the perfect witch for the job. Not because she's falling for him, nope. She's just being helpful. But to find the killer, Roman and Dylan must navigate a maze of lies, dark magic and old rivalries. With the killer one magical step ahead, will they discover her identity in time to prevent more death—such as Dylan's?
Hey, I’m Amy, I write books for folks who crave laugh-out-loud paranormal mysteries. I help bring humor into readers’ lives. I’ve got a Pharm D in pharmacy, a BA in Creative Writing and a Masters in Life. And when I’m not writing or chasing around two small children (one of which is four going on thirteen), I can be found antique shopping for a great deal, getting my roots touched up (because that’s an every four week job) and figuring out when I can get back to Disney World. If you’re dying to know more about my wacky life, here are three things you don’t know about me. —In college I spent a semester at Marvel Comics working in the X-Men office. —I worked at Carnegie Hall. —I grew up in a barbecue restaurant—literally. My parents owned one. If you want to reach out to me—and I love to hear from readers—you can email me at amyboylesauthor@gmail.com. Happy reading!
I think the mystery was better on this one. The investigation part, because the murder was pretty obvious. The main character and her grandmother are rude and it's getting on my nerves.
Based on Audiobook: The mystery was a little obvious in this one (though there were a couple nice little surprises ;)), but overall still just an enjoyable cozy with a great narrator. Jennie Butts's fist-pumping "y'all y'all y'all" is still one of my favorite things. Definitely continuing w/ the series!
From what I can recall the first book of this series was pretty cute. It had depth and character development with some mystery added in to keep the reader on their toes. It was a very pleasant story! Which is why I’m sad to say that this second installment falls flat. There doesn’t seem to be any of the good qualities from the first novel present in the second volume. What a shame!
I would love to say that this story is fun and exciting, but it’s not. After an attempted magic lesson goes awry, Dylan and her family are scolded by the Queen Witch and then forced to attend a party completely comprised of fellow witches. Considering Dylan’s previous encounter with a rather evil magic user it’s not something that sounds particularly alluring to her, but it’s the punishment that’s been given.
So the family sucks it up and reluctantly attends the strange witch gathering, only to have all hell break loose shortly after their arrival. During dessert a gossipmonger is killed after eating some poisonous food that was placed on Dylan’s plate at her appointed table space. Was she supposed to be the one poisoned? And if so, who would want to kill her?
To ensure the villain is captured and justice is served, Queen Em places the building on lockdown so no one can leave while Roman Bane investigates the scene and searches for clues. In short, this novel is nothing but a bad case of ‘Who dun it’. Now this sort of thing could’ve been fun if executed properly. However, in this instance, it wasn’t.
Instead of going for that old radio murder mystery vibe, this author goes in a completely different direction. There is no true sense of fun or mystery in the story. All there is is a bunch of stupid women with juvenile tendencies that constantly make really poor decisions that land them in hot water. In essence, Dylan wants to help solve the case, even though she has no qualifications to do so, while at the same time pining over the ever brooding and good looking Roman Bane. That’s it! That’s literally all she wrote!
There’s other little piddly stuff that happens in the book but it’s nothing really worth mentioning. Naturally the bad guy gets caught in the end and everything finishes on a happy note, which isn’t all that surprising. The mystery of who the culprit was is pretty easy to figure out, I called it very early on. What a bummer! I hate when the villain is so easy to predict! It takes away from the excitement of the conclusion. Boo!
As you can see I was not a fan of this little book. While some of the ideas are interesting, like the whole unicorn King thing, I’m not sure that’s enough to entice me into reading the next novel. I’m just not that impressed with this author's writing ability. Maybe one day I’ll give the next one a shot for curiosity's sake, but that won’t be anytime soon. Fairyland, Titus and the Monkey King will just have to wait.
I downloaded this series after reading the Sweet Tea Witches by the sane author which i enjoy. Now i know that authors who write different series make them different I was not expecting the same series i did expect a fairly consistent level of writing, not so! Not so at all!, Take the 2 main characters Dylan and Sera considering they own they're own businesses and are supposed to be adults they continually act like spoilt children, i just cannot take to either, their southern "sass"comes over as nasty sarcasm i thought southern gals put manners as priority? , I get that they are sister's and as such will have family banter, but their attitude to their younger sister Reid who at this point has no magic though it may come in later, Dylan and Sera instead of being understanding and sympathetic can be mean and childish to her. The granny 's are another review all of their own, one is supposed to be bat guana crazy, talking about winged monkeys (anyone else feeling the OZ vibes or is it just me!) and fairyland, and other strange things clearly her 3 year protective coma has addled her brain The other looks like the stereotypical witch you know the kind hooked nose and chin, and instead of teaching the newbie sister's they just seem to be there to give them a hard time about being useless,, occasionally one will demand attention and teach a really important spell that they must know (which so far involves closing your eyes and making it happen, not sure why they are struggling with the concept!!? And you can all but guarantee they will need that spell or piece of info 3chapters on. The plot holes are a joke, who was draining grandma? What happened to their powers at the summer solstic, Was the unicorn king told they solved the murders? Or is he still waiting for Dylan and Roman to investigate? How did a convicted killer (well he's innocent but we don't know that when he got the get the job as detective in the town and he wasn't even on the human police force but now he's a detective?! The murder he was accused of that was wrapped up way to easy with minimal input from anyone, it left me feeling short changed and confused, same with the council woman at the end saying ok girls you've been a victim of 2 crazy witch killers so we've decided you can ignore rule number 1 and won't be boiled in water if you accidentally duo magic inn front of humans, ok i get Dylan has been brave and encountered 2 murderers but Sera has done nothing really. No I'm sorry I feel I gave this series a fighting chance, i read books 1 & 2 but i won't continue any further.
. I was so excited to find this witch mystery through Kindle Unlimited. I look forward to an extended series, which gives the reader the opportunity to spend time with a defined group of characters, hopefully, who grow in depth.
This second installment starts out rather slow. It does have some eclectic characters, but none that are extremely compelling yet. Since we are getting to know them better, it is a little easier to understand some of the experiences than at first.
The grandaughters just got their powers and are very inexperienced. The grandmother's eccentricity is often confusing. Mostly the events are nonsensical and very little magic portrayed.
There are some minor grammatical errors. It is a clean read and contains an H.E.A. regarding the dead body. It is able to stand on its own, but the series will probably be better understood if read in order.
This is the second in the series and even better than the first! The characters are evolving nicely (I'm still on the fence about Reid, though), the situational humor is on target, and the mystery is entertaining. Dylan and Roman are cute, and those wacky grandmothers are a hoot. I'm looking forward to Dylan realizing her potential!
Queen Em calls a witchy gathering to throw Dylan and Sera in at the deep end. During the dinner one of Dylans table mates is murdered and so the fun and games begin.
Dylan is finally getting a grips on the fact that she is a witch, and she is adjusting to life, even with Roman staying in town to be the new police chief. That is until the witch queen shows up and "invites" her to a convention of witches at the local hotel. Of course someone dies and Dylan is a basket case with her magic and ends up getting called in by the council.
With another death, this means Roman is around, but they are having to try to keep the witch police out of the picture, because the head still wants to arrest Roman. Even Grandma Hazels talk of the unicorn king turns out to be turn as Roman and Dylan are whisked away to his kingdom.
Author Amy Boyles has a way about witch stories that just make them readable and fun. You want to be involved in this town and these peoples lives, you want to know more and you want to help them all learn what it means to be a witch. Its a fun read, easy and quick.
I was hopeful this was going to be a better book than I thought it was. This is the first book that I have attempted by the writer. I listened to the audiobook from the library. The narrator read with enthusiasm keeping consistent with the southern style of speaking.
The witches are very catty and mean. I did not like the group of witches at all. The main character didn’t seem to gel in terms of what she was doing to figure out the mystery and manage all these witches and their personalities She was hesitant with the love interest. After I was done, I realized I didn’t really enjoy it!
That is too bad. There wasn’t that sense of satisfaction of the end of the book instead I am feeling disappointed about this book. Not sure if her other series are any better?
The mystery was good, the humor there, family will be the death of you 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ Roman and Dylan are getting closer or are they? Mosquito attacks, electrical outages, a witch convention in town? Just what Dylan and her sister need especially not knowing who to trust or who may be out to steal their powers or boil them alive. When a gossipy witch is killed at the convention,Dylan insists on helping Roman investigates whether he wants the help or not. With two grandmothers heckling her on, what else is a fledging witch to do?
I think this is a great second book. When reading you get to know more about the wacky character such as both grandmother's and you find out more about Dylan and Roman and see which way the relationship is heading. It has a good story line for a cozy witch mystery and you get to see more of Dylan's investigation skulls which she us really lacking. it seems like its going to be a interesting series.nothing boring about witches and murder
Part 2 of the series. After avoiding being murdered in the first book the sisters accidently bring on a swarm of mosquitoes, instead of turning them to ice, forcing them to halt their picnic and head inside. Little did they know it would only infuriate the local witches even more. Now they are in really hot water. Murder and mayhem surround them again. Can the Unicorn King really get Dylan of this mess? You will have to read(listen) to find out!
A cute little southern witch mystery! Grandma is absolutely hysterical and will give you a giggle or two. New witch sisters, guided by both if their grandmothers, trying to stay out of trouble so they wouldn’t be boiled alive. Read or listen to the audio to solve the mystery! I love southern speech and funny sarcasm and Dylan’s thoughts. Easy to recommend for a light fun, read or listen. If you choose audio, Angela Dawe does an outstanding job narrating. 😍
Eh... This has one has made me not want to finish the series. The FMC is just so rude, to everyone, it is not endearing. I was hoping for a little character growth this book, but there really wasn't any. Maybe it would come off different if I read the series instead, but honestly, it really made me not want to, so I won't. There are other characters I love, but she is just too much of an a........
The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because I like the FMC's youngest sister Reed and Roman.
Very entertaining series. Cozy mystery series with a supernatural twist a family of witches with murders and mysteries to solve in every book. Great cast of characters very entertaining storylines it’ll make you laugh it’ll make you think and it is definitely well worth the read. Check them out
Just finished my second Bless You Witch book and I thoroughly enjoyed it as much as the first one. The continuing story with all the characters with another murder of two kept me on my toes with a touch of romance to top it off. Can't wait to start the next book. If you enjoy paranormal romantic mysteries I heartily recommend this series.
I truly enjoy this series by Amy Boyles. Her main character, Dylan, is a sassy little thing. It makes me laugh. I can picture the characters and scenery in this story. These books take my mind off the struggles of life and entertain me. I need that in this crazy world of ours. So, I say thank you to Amy Boyles. I will read every book she writes.
Loretta and Sumi were reporters who like to trash other witches. Everyone hated them and one of them dead. So when one of them died everyone was blaming everyone and it was up to Dylan to find out who did it. Of course the detective Roman is probably the one that should’ve been catching the killer but Dylan is a little nosy.
Quirky, fun, imaginative with a mystery to solve too.
I'm very happy I stumbled across this series! Perfect poolside reading! What do you get when you mix witches, unicorns, murder, mystery, a super hot detective and a quirky witch family? This "Southern Charmed" series!
These new witches are still learning their craft and we learn more about them. A great mystery keeps you guessing until the end! This is a fun read and the characters are fun as well. There is mystery, comedy and a bit of romance. Something for everyone!
This series is great- funny, filled with magic and a sarcastic lead character. I can imagine sitting in the living room with Grandma and Aunt Millie. Looking forward to the next.
I stumbled across this series and decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did. This is the perfect Cosy Mystery and the characters are hilarious. Hazel and Milly are the best.
Grandma is always talking about Unicorn Kings, Monkey Kings and flying monkeys... Is this the Wizard of Oz? Dylan finds herself embroiled in another murder mystery. But along the way she finds a heart that’s true, a new vacation spot and an Amazing Stone!!
In so glad that Dylan is finally getting what she wants. These cozy mysteries just take a hold of my brain and doesn't let go til I'm done with the book. If you like cozy mysteries then you should read this series.
Book # 2 in series , the sisters are growing as characters ,fun southern witch series with mystery murder 2 witches killed. My favorite character Tinnus the unicorn king is back
