Presidents, premiers, entire governments disappeared instantly, like a fragile house of cards in a hurricane. Some hid deep underground or holed up in fortified strongholds, but most were swallowed up by the dead, never to be heard from again.
Cade Grayson—husband, father, patriot—discovered two undead enemy soldiers on American soil, and soon the official call to duty came directly from the President herself in a transmission beamed by military satellite to Cade's refuge in rural Utah: It was time to take up arms in defense of his country once again. Valerie Clay’s hard-to-fathom video footage, showing thousands of enemy soldiers establishing beachheads all along the West Coast, made it impossible to resist. He was a former U.S. Army Delta Operator and he had to come to the aid of his dying country. If he and his team failed, it would leave America more vulnerable than ever – not only to the zombie scourge roaming the countryside, but to her enemies both foreign and domestic.
While Cade is away, the Eden survivors learn a devastating secret: The dead have recovered from the effects of an early season snowstorm. They are everywhere. Worse, someone capable of unspeakable violence has been systematically stripping nearby towns of everything worth taking.
Will Cade and his team survive their mission to halt the enemy’s push inland?
Will the Eden survivors find the supplies they need for the upcoming long and brutal winter? And will they survive (are they prepared to survive) an encounter with those responsible for the grisly crimes against humanity?
Discover who has what it takes to survive the Zombie Apocalypse ... and who doesn’t.
Mr Chester's series keeps getting better and better. I enjoyed this book a lot although felt Adrian's group needed to be fleshed out some more. Cannot wait till the next book is out!
Poor Cade never gets any "downtime." He is continually pulled into missions to save the country from the dead or from the originators of the Z virus that nearly decimated the world. The Chinese are determined to capture the U.S., but Cade and his band of ragtag SFs and flyboy helicopter pilot, Ari, are determined to thwart the NFC SF teams to save what remains of the nearly decimated citizens from the Chinese threat, all while defending themselves and others from the ever-present walking dead. All taking place while his friends back in his home compound, in Eden, Utah, deal with a new, dangerous, and evil threat to their existence. But what of Cade's wife, Brook? Did the anti-viral serum for the Z-virus fail her? What will Cade find when he returns from his mission? Read this book and you'll see. You won't be able to put it down!
At every turn Cade is faced with another difficult decision. He must answer the call to duty for his country once again, that is who he is, he keeps his promises. In doing so he must leave his band of friends and family to hopefully take care of their selves in his absence. This decision, this promise, he may regret....
I really enjoyed this hard-hitting, realistic novel. The characters especially were believable and sympathetic, while the mostly non-stop action was gripping.
I gave this a high review because I liked the book. I have several issues with the series that bother me.
1.) They give up their guns, like Duncan leaving his 1911 revolver behind because it may be a crime scene. Almost all the guns are military weapons, which shouldn't be true. 2.) They use a folding knife to kill the zombies. Most folding knives have to short of blade. Also they don't carry a spare knife. If I were using my knife to kill zombies, I would sure have a back up knife or two. Also they never lose their knives stuck in a skull, or pulled out of their hands and not be able to recover it. It also looks like it is unbreakable. 3.) The use of a metal knife steel to kill a zombie is speculated on. However every person is to dumb to make a spear to stab them in the eye? 4.) There are far more men than women being saved. Women are going to be needed if the country is going to recover. Rescue more women. 5.) Since all the stalled and wrecked cars are fleeing, why aren't they checking them for food and other needed supplies? Instead they just walk by.
Another action packed roller coaster ride from the mind of Shawn Chesser. This series just keeps getting better and better. Cade is once again out on a secret mission for President Nash hoping he will survive and make it back to his family. While he is away the group are having serious issues with another gang of waste of skin survivors. This book takes you on journey of fighting for survival, coping with loss, payback and a jaw dropping ending that will leave you in tears. I can hardly wait for the next addition to this awesome series. I highly recommend reading the entire Surviving The Zombie Apocalypse series if you enjoy the zombie/military genre.
Another fantastic book in Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse series by Shawn Chesser! And as usual, he didn't let me down in the suspense of his story telling or his leaving me hanging at the end. If you haven't started this series yet, now is a good time to start. You are only eleven books behind. His characters are all well developed and become loved as they become family!
Written well, you get to really like the characters. The only hard part for me to accept is when at towards the end the group decides to trust someone after all that has happened. That's out of character from how cautious they were throughout the story line and seems a bit unbelievable. I won't say any more because of spoilers, so I will let you decide after you read which I really hope you do because this is an awesome story!
The plot thickens as our survivors battle fear and foe alike, the PLA makes a brazen attempt to invade our shores, and time runs out for some, but you'll have to read it to find out who. Mr. Chesser continues to deliver with this latest addition to an awesome story that will leaves you wanting more.... looking forward to the next upcoming release.
This is one of my favorite authors and series. Shawn Chesser did not disappoint in this book. He kept me on the edge of my seat Chapter after Chapter, going back and forth between action packed settings. The gang was back in all their scary and funny glory. I always feel like I'm visiting with a group of friends, wanting them to find some kind of happiness in the apocalyptic world. Thanks for the awesome writing Mr. Chesser.
This book is better than the last one and the one before that. Every book is better than the last. I don't know what I will do when the series ends. I hope it doesn't. There was really nothing I didn't like other than the book not being longer. I will definitely recommend this book to everyone .
This series is really awesome you can not wait to see what cade, brook and raven are going to do next there is always a lot of action with zombies and people you will not put this book down
Love this series. Ive come to know these characters so well I feel the sorrows of the chacters and their highs. I say again this series would make a tremendous movie of tv series. Keep it up but keep cade safe !!!
I have enjoyed every book from the first... this one was excellent as well. My heart is broke for the survivors, and can hardly wait for the next book in this series.
Shawn is one powerful wordsmith. He inspires and breaks your heart at the same time. Each book while part of the same series is new and fresh all at once. My only wish is to survive my cancer apocalypse long enough to read more STZA.
This is one of the best series of books in this genre. Holds your interest but doesn't get too overly technical. Has just the right amount of good times versus bad times. Can't wait to see what's next.
This book had a lot of twists that kept the story going. The entire series has been great and in this book we see more of Cade's personal struggles. Really enjoyed this book.
I choose this rating because at times the story moved too slowly. Excellent portrayal of characters with believable outcomes. I recommend this series too any Z A lovers.
I found the first third to be pretty slow - so much so that I was tempted to give up - but it picks up. That being said, many Eden storylines still failed to grab me.
11 books in and showing no sign of slowing down. This latest installment of Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse really kept me on edge, there is always a darkness simmering away underneath it all. I can't go in to detail as it would be a shame to spoil the troughs and peaks our hardy gang of survivors endure. If you are new to this series , then I would recommend starting from book one.
