Worth #3

Worth the Wait

Rate this book
A proposal turned political…
Detective Oliver Worth doesn’t always think things through. When he proposed to Connor Pierce in front of all the packs of Logan’s Court, he thought he was being romantic. It was a grand gesture to show Connor he meant it—that they were Fated, that Oliver wanted to spend the rest of his life with Connor. He didn’t think he was proposing a bond that would unify the Courts of Logan and Nimueh, forever solidifying peace between the two kingdoms. If he had, maybe he would have expected the fallout.

Marked a murderer…
When Oliver and Connor’s bonding ceremony is interrupted by news of a murder—with Connor the prime suspect—Oliver and Connor are forced to disappear into hiding in Maeve’s Court. With a dwindling list of allies, they must race to solve the murder and clear Connor’s name. But with every passing moment, the political landscape of the Three Courts shifts toward destabilization and war, with Connor and Oliver at the centre of it all. As the evidence mounts against Connor, and the Courts prepare for all-out war, the case gets more convoluted. Is Connor being framed for murder? Is the murder only one part of a much larger plan? And with Connor presumed guilty across the Three Courts, how far does the conspiracy stretch?

A grasp for power…
The road ahead is more treacherous than Oliver ever imagined. As he pushes to find answers and save his lover, Oliver must hold desperately to the belief that he and Connor really are meant to be. Can they work fast enough to find the real killer and save their Courts from all-out war? Or will their Fated love be Fated to die?

Worth the Wait is the final book in the Worth Series, 82,000 words, and a paranormal mystery m/m romance. Though it can be read as a stand-alone, it is best enjoyed as the finale to the series. It contains scenes of coarse language, violence, and explicit sexual content, therefore is not suitable for readers under 18 years of age.

Good writing, excellent world building, and great characters combine to make this series, and this book in particular, a great read. In this last installment of the Worth Series, Oliver and Connor are on the verge of having everything they want when their world as they know it comes crashing down around them. I was excited to jump back into this world Evans has crafted and to see exactly how everything was going to play out for the two MCs I’d come to care about. This series definitely needs to be read in order, so start at the first one and then continue on.

What I particularly enjoyed about this story was the consistency in characters and world building. Everything in the story follows a unique set of rules that has been laid out and are unbreakable for this world. That alone gives a story like this extra oomph, as it hinges on a creative and yet believable world. I loved watching more of it unfold and seeing how everything fits together with what came before.

The characters do the same thing. Oliver has grown by leaps and bounds in his personal life since the first book. Connor has always been rock solid. From the very beginning, these guys worked together, and more than just believing they were fated mates had me rooting for them. I loved seeing the guys that I knew standing firm together in this third book. Easily, the treachery, murder, and mayhem could have made for external conflict that would tear them apart. It could have cast doubt and fear on them. But Oliver and Connor are just so solid in their love for each other, and of their knowledge of each other, that they do not waver. Yes, Connor has occasional doubts, fears, but his thoughts are for what’s best to protect Oliver and his pack. It was completely natural for his character. But as he had these doubts, he and Oliver conversed about things. And it was so refreshing to see a couple actually talking instead of letting miscommunications rule them. Their whole relationship arc in this book was done so exceptionally well.

There is some magic here, something that compels me to read forward but somehow it's more the magic of too much, a magic that is necessary to whitewash weak points, that leaves you breathless although you already guessed what it's all about - until you don't know anymore because you stepped from a nice fantasy story into one of those 80s shows where people appear out of the blue from a years long coma or they're not as dead as you they should be just to fill the loopholes of the logic, where suddenly the world of wizards, werewolves and fae are full of creatures you don't remember being mentioned in the first parts like dragons, unicorns or pixies, even Atlantis is mentioned somewhere as a honeymoon destination.

Would have liked this story to be more focused and clear. Wouldn't have minded the not so strong mystery at its core, that didn't worry me much in the other parts. Ms. Evans should have more believe in her telling skills. There is after all a reason why I had to read all 3 parts of this trilogy one after the other in such a short time but somewhere along the line she lit a fire under her imagination and packed everything into this last installment, moving the feeling for the romance into the backseat.

I really enjoyed it but it could have been more.

In this book, the author had lost his/her imagination. The big bad, was the usual bad, with an extra help. I found the story boring and I wanted to skip pages only to end it. I still liked Connor and Oliver together, but the unnecessary drama, really didn't make me able to enjoy their scenes. The finale was good, maybe also romantic, but didn't do much to save a book that wasn't necessary, in my opinion, for the conclusion of the story, and maybe if it all had ended in book 2, that would have been a more wise choice.

A great story to wrap up a really entertaining series. Lovely world-building, hot sex and wonderful romance.

BUT...

I distinctly remember in Out of the Blue (which I think comes later, chronologically) that Selkies were a myth, a legend. But at the end of this one, our MCs are planning a trip to Atlantis, to see the Selkies? I know there was never a hint of a Selkie Court, but Selkies are mentioned off-handedly (specifically swamp Selkies) in a couple of other instances in this story. So...on that I'm confused.

Well.... fuck me twice - what a ride! I think I've snarled at anyone trying to talk to me, because I HAD to finish this book. Like, seriously, don't start this book at eleven at night thinking "one chapter is enough" like I did. (It wasn't, and I had to force myself to stop, because I needed sleep)

This book starts with a bang and ends with an even bigger bang! There was never a dull moment, more twists and turns than I can count, and a crime that was revealed more hidden truths than you would have thought there to be in the first place. It not only tides the first two books perfectly together, it also leaves you wanting MORE. *coughs* a certain idiot needs to get his head out of his ass *coughs* And I really need to check in with Connor and Oliver again. Most of the questions were answered , and there is the very hard won HAE you've wanted since book one, but it was also a bitter sweet ending. So many things happened in such a short amount of time, and I think that, yes, the immediate danger is resolved, but there has to be a time of healing now. Everyone needs that. It's like a real bad storm where you emerge at the end of it, finding everything different, maybe your favorite plant is gone, and you grieve for it. You grieve, but you are also happy that it's over. You can see the light, look up into the sky, soak up the sunshine and take a step forward. You know you'll be okay that things are okay, and that you've grown. You've survived the storm.
That's how it feels when you finish the book. Your heart will have been torn upart, you grieved, but the end will leave you sad, but joyous at the same time, relieved and most of all: hopeful! Everything is going to be all right.

I have to thank M. Derr, who has absolutely no clue that she's the one that prompted me to give the Worth series a shot, that she read the first part, and rated it here on GR. I would have never found the trilogy on my own, and that would have been inexcuseable. I really hope that Mrs. Evans will continue to publish such great adventures, and I hope she'll create a HP and a newsletter - I nearly missed the third part, because I don't have a twitter account.

I bought this book back in 2016 and for some strange reason never read it until now. As I was reading, I remembered how much I really liked this series. This is the final installment in Oliver and Conner’s story and it did not disappoint. I loved both Oliver and Conner. Both of their back stories were just heartbreaking, and they had to go through so much on their way to a HEA.

I will say that the person murdered shocked me. I didn’t expect it at all and it really saddened me. Other aspects were a bit predictable, but there were plenty of twists and turns that were unexpected. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend you read not only this book, but the other two in the series as well.

As the final book in the Worth series featuring Connor and Oliver I was very excited to see them get their HEA. I was not dissapointed. Lots of drama in book 3, but none between Connor and Oli. They stayed strong even with Oliver's constant worrying about Connor leaving. Connor as usual was amazing , always reassuring Oliver and being sweet. Then the next second hes rough and tumble baby. We get to meet the other two heads of the 3 courts. They were interesting and a few surprises were thrown our way that had me saying holy shitaki mushrooms! All in all it was a good ending to great couple.

2.5 stars rounded up. This one seemed to take me a while to read. I liked it, and I love the main characters, but I just wasn't riveted to the story this time. So much murder and Oliver and Connor always under suspicion - it wore me out.

Love Oliver and Connor!

I loved this entire series so much! This book had a lot happening and it was a little confusing in the middle (too many plot points added willy-nilly), but a great HEA for these two!

What an ending for this series!

This last book of the series is the perfect ending! The trials they faced and the way Oli and Connor became more confident in their love and trust as they faced uncertainty and death. There were parts of this story that made me laugh out loud while I was on my breaks at work!

Lyra Evans, you are an outstanding author and am looking forward to your next book!

This is a great way to cap an extremely enjoyable series! Having established the characters and the setting well in previous book, Evans is free to dive deeply into the characters and the world of the Three Courts. The political machinations take center stage here, as does a pretty clever mystery.

We (finally!) learn both Oliver and Connor's family histories, and that plays a big part in the story. The heat and passion between these two is there as always, though the on-page hotness is toned down from previous books. The fast-paced story more than makes up for this though as our heroes traverse one end of the Three Courts to the other seeking to clear their names.

As always, the side characters shine here, from the stalwart Donna, Connor's second in command, to the wild and fearless reporter Rory. The small side-plot involving border guard Brook was sweet and sad, and not something I had noticed in previous books.

I enjoyed this book so much. I'm sad to leave Oliver and Connor but the ending of their story is so perfect I have no complaints whatsoever!

Enjoyable conclusion to the series!

I like this world and the continued world-building was a nice touch, as was the increased spotlight on some of the periphery character. It was nice to get to know some of the people surrounding Connor and Oliver a bit more. :)

This one was super action packed, and at times perhaps a little too packed. Not necessarily bad, but it did feel like a lot of GOGOGO--though they always had time to stop for sex. ;)

It definitely felt like a conclusion, and though there were some loose threads, it wasn't anything that will keep me up at night. I felt like the stuff with sort of came ot of left field, and not in a good way. Especially as it resolved so quickly, and it just felt a little contrived and under developed.

But given how many plot threads there were, it was a relatively minor gripe, and overall, I enjoyed this book and the series overall.

Even if we get conspiracy, death, suspicion and a lot of action, I still found that story plot a bit unattractive and slightly ridiculous.

What I found fascinating (in a bad way) is how Author "Lyra Evans" brought back characters like Sky who we know was torn to pieces and Kayla a twin sister of Connor who died and nevertheless of her parents or she being a wolf still could do what she did.

All in all, the story plot is not pulling or in anyway attractive it moves more toward disappointing.

I love this. Every single word of it. Just recently discovered this author and now she's an autobuy for me. Great flow to the writing, wonderful characters and a fantastic story. This is a trilogy and the books need to be read in order. Each has its own story with a good ending and there are no cliffhangers. Sex is well integrated and doesn't overwhelm the story.

This time I found this story a bit to action packed. Oliver and Connor were always on a run, always defending themselves while doing their best to solve who murdered Logan and why. I wasn't as enthralled with this third book in Worth series. Still ending was full of HEA, which came a bit to abrupt.
