The Camino Ingles: 6 days (or less) to Santiago

Rate this book
Do you think you are too old, too young, or not fit enough for an adventure?

What about if it's a walking adventure in Northern Spain?

Do you want to hike the famous pilgrimage trail, the 500 mile/800 km Camino Frances in Spain, but don’t have 30+ days for that trek? Or are you terrified of the fitness, research, and planning that is required?

The Camino Ingles is the answer!

The Camino Ingles is one of the Northern Caminos, a Galician pilgrimage trail ending in Santiago de Compostela, a great doable walking adventure for anyone of moderate fitness. You may have heard of the Camino, called variously, St. James Way, or Jacobsweg; but there are in fact, many Caminos, and the English Way or Camino Ingles is one of them.

Walking the Camino was a goal of mine last year, and the year before that, and the year before that. I had never even walked five miles, but I wanted to walk the Camino to prove to myself that I could achieve a goal. But, I didn’t have the time for 500 miles, then, I heard of the Camino Ingles. No more excuses! The shorter time and distance of the Camino Ingles was the clincher, and I set out on a quieter, less travelled and less well documented hike through Spain.

This book helps you to set a practical goal and achieve it, by showing you exactly how to:

Walk the Camino Ingles, a Galician route as old as the Camino Frances Prepare your mind, body and feet to enjoy the long walk Pack and what to discard to travel light Plan your travel and arrival in Spain in the shortest time Decide on strategies to overcome obstacles Find the medieval way posts for an authentic experience Enjoy the food of the region Book, or not book your bed for a good nights’ rest Get your Compostela in Santiago Find more information if you really want it

Follow this book to complete a real pilgrimage trek in only 6 days, there is enough detail to guide you each day. Go on, what’s stopping you? It's only one step at a time!

Thanks for popping by - if you are interested in having adventures of your own, here's a gift for you - https://www.susanjagannath.com/planyo...
Susan Jagannath successfully combined a passion for reading, a love of writing and a fascination for technology, to create a career in technical writing.
With over 50 technical manuals (not) to her name, “RTFM” could have been the motto for her life; but she didn’t let the idea that no one ever reads the manual stop her from thoroughly enjoying her work.
As an army brat, her childhood included seven different schools, three universities and a couple of emergency evacuations from conflict zones. Travel and adventure were a normal part of life.
She now believes in seizing every opportunity to have a new adventure. Whether it’s camping on the beach in Australia, trekking in the Himalayas, kayaking in Queensland, whitewater rafting down the Ganges, or walking the Camino in Spain, her philosophy is to pack it into one or two weeks to create memories for a lifetime, (and disconnect from television and computer games).
Susan is now on the next adventure of her life, writing books that are not technical manuals, training to be an awesome grandmother, and planning her next getaway.

Useful & enjoyable

I'm so glad I found this book. The Camino bug has bitten me during the last couple of weeks and won't let me go! Firstly I was randomly sent a CD from my sister who knew I was interested in walking and enjoyed a challenge. After watching it I got a book on kindle about the Camino Francaise . As I plodded through the 500 Km of it fascinated, low and behold a TV series begins about the pilgrimage. The next day I heard that my next-door neighbour and his mates were doing the Camino next month !!! All this within 2 weeks......I was getting a message but couldn't imagine how I could be away from home for so long. Then this book came to my rescue. A Camino on 6 days !!!! A very informative read and I will buy the hard copy to take with me on my pilgrimage full of confidence. All my questions, queries and problems solved and answered.

Good handbook for walking the Camino Ingles, and encouraging the reader to do it. If you're overwhelmed at the thought of walking the Camino Francese, and don't want to face the crowds walking from Saria to Santiago, this book provides an alternative which I hope to take next year. Lots of helpful information here.

What once seemed impossible is now in the realm of the possible!

When I make this dream a reality, which won't be long, this book will prove both a boon and welcome companion. Recommended!

Concise and clear instructions to make this pilgrimage accessible to those who cannot or do not have the time to spend 30 days on the road. A must read for anyone wanting to make this pilgrimage but overwhelmed by the effort.

Short and sweet

Packed with information and lighthearted observations, the author makes a compelling case for walking this branch of the pilgrim’s path to Santiago. Not in depth as far as history, but very thorough in describing preparation for the walk.

I read this book in preparation for the Camino I'll be doing in a few months with a group of friends. It is going to be my first Camino and I'm quite excited.
This book is really detailed and at the same time it's always encouraging: according to the author's experience, this Camino is very approachable and definitely worth the effort.
The style is a bit sloppy and punctuation is a nightmare, though. Some editing would make it a more pleasant read.

I was really looking forward to this book since it covers the lesser known Camino Ingles. However, I found the book extremely repetitious, stating the same thing over and over. The author seemed to need to tell the reader over and over, "now that you are ready", "you are on your way", etc.. I finally gave up halfway through as there are many other Camino books that are far better and appealing to read.

A good insight.

By the authors own admission, this is a personal account and as such gives a good mix of practical advice and real life experience. I found it to be an engaging read that filled in a few gaps I had from reading many other books on this topic.

This book is now completely updated with the new route. I walked again in 2019, and a new edition was out in 2020. Seeing that it was 2020, I added notes on walking in the new normal. There are checklists and notes in the free bonuses section to guide you re the "new normal".
As of today, the path can be walked by those who are already in Galicia. Albergues are open and operating at 30% capacity, with new social distancing and mandatory mask rules.
However, it is better to use this as an armchair read and as preparation for when we can walk safely again.

I found this book to be both valuable and entertaining on my recent Camino Inglés. Susan adds colorful insight and a special quote at the beginning of each chapter.
