As competitors strive to win the war for talent, effective human resource management is necessary to gain true competitive advantage in the marketplace. Three challenges companies face are sustainability, technology, and globalization. "Human Resource Management 6th Edition" brings these challenges to life by highlighting real-world examples pertaining to these issues and relating it to the concepts within the chapter. While clearly strategic in nature, the text also emphasizes how managers can more effectively acquire, develop, compensate, and manage the internal and external environment that relates to the management of human resources.
Professor Raymond Andrew Noe is one of the foremost academic authorities in the area of training and development.
He is an author of three texts in human resource management, including Employee Training and Development, which includes a section on use of the technologies in training, and has published extensively in such publications as the Journal of Applied Psychology, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Organizational Behavior and Personnel Psychology.
He has consulted with several companies, including Strategic Interactive and General Motors Assurance Corporation, on training and development issues.
This text is highly disorganized. The topics jump back and forth. Very poor editing, excessively wordy, and not easy to follow, even for a textbook dealing with a somewhat dry topic.
Needed the updated version for an MBA, which I received. To be honest- if you are a new grad going straight to an MBA from undergrad it may help you. On the other hand, if you spent 30 plus years in Multi level store leadership - you probably know all of this. I received an A+ in the class and it had nothing what do ever to do with the book. It was ALL prior knowledge. However if you truly have not functioned at that level get the book. It did help me realized what a long term career in corporate Leadership preps you for: getting an MBA to give you academic credit for what you know, the ability to advise working people of how to handle HR issues, Leaves and general operations to keep them and their company safe.
This textbook is inconsistent and unorganized. On page 8 it discusses shared services models briefly then says Chapter 16 will go into more detail. In Chapter 16 it never references them again. There is so much detail that could be explored, but this book leaves out a lot of nuance. Overall, this book has a lot of missed opportunities.
An excellent and well-written textbook for college level programs in business and HR. The authors even included some humor, which is nearly non-existent in college textbooks. I highly recommend this textbook. Only a few minor grammatical errors, but nothing that took away from the overall rating.
This book has WAY to many examples and they don’t relate to anything being said in the book. The actual content/points could have been made with 2/3 less of the long winded blabbing on.
I enjoyed learning more on the "in and out" of the human rescource department in companies. The biggest challenge was just diving into such a "focused" area of business. I found some information to repeat itself, but I suppose the text writers wanted to get their point across!
A wonderful book on a little known department in most companies. This book takes "Human Resources" apart. We look at each event that HR is responsible for. I recommend this book for your reading. You will come away from this book with a better understanding of this important part of your business or any business that you may have dealings with.
Very good overview of the various topics in Human Resource Management. The book was very readable, and divided up in a way as to promote (at least in me) recall of the topics in a better way than most course textbooks I've read. Highly recommended (from a student's standpoint at least).
We have just received the book ordered but unfortunately we received the wrong book or missmatch with the book's description on this page (I received a copy of book with only 268 pages and different cover design). Order number :13851859 (ordered by my friend). How can you fix this? Thank you.
