Twisters and Textbooks (a Sunset Plains romance novella) by Lindzee Armstrong.

When a funeral brings Lauren back to Sunset Plains, she decides to seek out Tanner in a desperate attempt to finally let go of her past. He’s still angry by her abrupt departure from his life, and she begins to question whether she ever should’ve returned.

Zoey’s Place By Rachel Branton
Caring for the animals at Safe Haven Exotic Wildlife Sanctuary has filled the holes in Zoey Morgan’s life and smoothed the memories that still haunt her. It helps that she works with friendly Stephen Carey, whose uncle owns the Arizona sanctuary, and Declan Walker, who is as wild and untouchable as the animals they help. When a storm hits, flattening buildings and flooding roads all over the state, the sanctuary goes into lockdown mode. But Zoey learns that her younger sister is lost in the storm, and she will risk anything to find her. So will the man who loves her—if she’d let him. Can he slip past the walls Zoey has built to hide her secrets? Zoey’s Place is a stand-alone novella telling the story of the now-grownup orphan that readers first saw in Rachel Branton’s House without Lies.
Rebecca is the USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of TIDES OF MUTINY (Little, Brown Book for Young Readers). Her previously published work includes the dystopian Numbers Game trilogy and the Ember series for fans of Firefly and The Mandalorian. She has also published an inspirational nonfiction book for moms (How to Have Peace When You're Falling to Pieces) and a number of online newspaper and magazine articles. It's her books about fierce teens smashing societal barriers, however, that she enjoys writing the most. Rebecca and her husband are raising their family in the Rocky Mountains. She has two cats, a ridiculous number of books, and an odd assortment of book-related socks. She is represented by Kelly Peterson at Rees Literary.
(4.5 Stars) Each of these stories has more in common than just a storm and a romance. Although those are great threads to bind these books together, they also have characters who are trying to overcome things from their pasts, moments of awakening, and real and hard growth.
One of my favorite things about anthologies is that I can get a little dose of some good, clean romance in a sitting or a day, but when each story feels like a full and complete novel, it's an added bonus. I also love it when a good level of creativity is used to develop some great characters and a good story line and feel that each of these achieves that expectation that I'd set up for this anthology, based on the previous ones I've read.
I love that each and every character is so realistic. I wanted to tell some of them to grow up and others to quit being so jealous and others to just move on already, but they've got some real and powerful emotions. Each setting is unique and the added suspense that shadows most of the stories is superbly done.
Content: mild moments of peril and suspense; mild romance.
*I received a copy through eBooks for Review. I voluntarily reviewed this and all thoughts are my own.*
Whoever came up with the idea of a collection of novella's that centered on a central theme was brilliant. Oh my goodness! I love the variety of stories told from different author's in one book. This anthology had some fabulous kisses that happen during a storm. The storms range from tornadoes, snow storms that turn into avalanches, flash floods, etc. Some of the stories have suspense and few are second chance romances. I even recognized characters from other stories.
There are some characters who keep showing up that I hope will have a HEA (Secrets in the Storm). For now I will settle for stolen kisses and lots of suspense. But seriously, there has to be a happy ending sometime for them. I guess it will keep me wanting to read more about them and their relationship. :)
This book is clean romance with kissing and a little bit of non-graphic violence.
I still haven't quite decided how I wanted to write this review. Sometimes for anthologies I'll break down each story and give a little(ok sometimes I'm longwinded) blurb and sometimes I'll just generalize the whole anthology. I'm still not sure so I'm just going to start letting my rambling thoughts come tumbling out and we'll see what we get with this review. Stick with me people, I'll try not to bore you. <333
When I sat down to read the Stormy Kisses anthology I didn't recognize too many of the author's names so I felt like I was going to be in for a treat in discovering some new authors to add to my reading list. Maybe I'm just the supreme optimist, but I really tend to rate books pretty high. Not that I'm trying to sugar coat anything, especially not my review books(which I'll be honest most of the books I read are review books), but let's face it there are only so many hours in a day and only so much time I can give to my addiction stress reliefLOVE of reading. (If you've read other reviews of mine you might have read this a while ago so just bear with me) I have an ever growing TBR and the only way to get through that is to choose books that I know I will enjoy, really enjoy, or absolutely love. My reading time is "my precioussss" time so if a book isn't something that I want to devote time to I just can't justify using my time for that. Everyone still with me and agreeing, or somewhat agreeing? So I guess my little rant there was more to say that I liked the book and have found authors that I am happily going to keep reading from(some I have read a novella of theirs already).
Soooooo...now onto my amazing review that's going to have you wanting to read this book. ;-)
The 6 novellas were all very different, all their own unique settings and very different group of characters. The similarities? A storm of some sort, almost all of the stories were second chance stories between the main characters, great humor, suspense and sweet kisses with all having a HEA(happily ever after) ending.
I was looking through the titles of the book trying to see if I had one that I loved more than the others and I don't think I could say that I do. Some books I like the female MCs better, some the male MCs, some the suspense had me turning the pages faster, some the romance had me turning pages faster and others the witty banter and humor had me turning pages faster. All in all I feel like each story really had a great combination of all these aspects with good writing that I gave it 4 stars overall.
To give you a taste of what awaits you within these pages I'll give little blips of different things. I'm just going to pull them off the top of my head fast so I won't guarantee that they will be in any order but a mash up of all the stories. So here we goooooooooo........
Book writer, skiing, hiking, spies, hurricanes, tornadoes, wild animals, hidden and abandoned cabin, mudslide, resort island, zip lining, waterfall, flash flood, courthouse explosion, underground safe room, orangutan(especially one in love with the MC-lol), attorneys, broken bones, helicopter rides, storm chasers, false identities, disguises, old flames, deceitful(in a good way) best friends, hidden cave, mortuary, sorrow, deaths, anger, reporters, hand holding, sweet and steamy kisses, long stares, power outages, cold temperature(which brings on snuggling), car crashes, tears, outdoor adventures, company infiltration, witty dialogue, giggles(from me of course), sighs(me again), and big grins(yep, you guessed it me-and you if you get the chance to read this one).
I'm sure I could add many more descriptive words or phrases for you to understand what's packed into this anthology but I'll stop there.
As I was thinking and writing those words, I kept thinking about the different MCs and I guess I will say that I loved them all, here's my little blips on them. Shelby and Wade(sigh), Zara and Trevor(ahhhh), Lauren and Tanner(electricity), Corie and Micah(toasty), Zoey and Declan(those eye locks-wow), and last but not least, Christy and Jeremy(kaboom-explosive).
I guess I didn't go with an individual review of each book but gave you some little snippets of it all to peek your interest. As far as content I would say these are all great clean reads. As I said earlier, some hand holding, eye locks, sweet and some steamy kisses but nothing further. I'd recommend for older YAs and above.
I received a copy from ebooks in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a fun collection of novellas. I'm very familiar with all but one of these authors so it was a treat to delve into this book. Secrets in the Storm and Zoey's Place are both spin off novellas from full length novels by the authors. The characters in both books appear in other books. I haven't read anything by Rebecca Rode so I'll be looking into her other books now that I've had a sample. :)
I loved how different each novella felt. There was romance in all of them but each one also had some sort of suspense, action or danger as well. It was fantastically diverting!
One of the great things about novella collections is that you can plow right through them (like me), or you can read one at a time, (just a nibble) here or there. Whatever your circumstances allow. It's a great way to be introduced to new authors who you might enjoy.
As of right now, this book is only .99 cents to buy on Amazon for kindle. That's a bargain deal! If you have kindle unlimited, you can read this book free! :) Yay!!

--I received this book for free. A favorable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
I always have a hard time knowing how to rate anthologies, though I think ones like this where each story is longer and there are fewer of them is a little easier. If I had to aggregate my ratings for each story we'd prolly end up around a 3.5 for this collection of sweet romance all revolving around storms, but I enjoyed my time enough over all to bump it up to a four.
My personal favorite was Zoey's story. I liked seeing how changed she was from the girl we met in Lily's House, and how she was dealing with a screwed up past and making a future for herself with minimal drama. She's learned to accept herself in a way that is very attractive and worked well with the stormy and sexy Declan.
This was a fun collection of short stories that all had some kind of storm as part of the story line. There were a lot of second chance stories (which are always my favorite), but there was also a couple trying to have a romantic getaway, and a heroine who thought she was too broken to ever find love. They all had some degree of danger (some danger from the weather, and some had more danger and action added in) which added to the story lines.
"Secrets in the Storm" is part of a series by Cindy Hogan; I have read most of the Christy stories and while I enjoy the action-packed adventures Jeremy and Christy have, I would like to see them get that romantic getaway sometime so we can see how they interact when there isn't danger involved.
"Zoey's Place" is part of a series by Rachel Branton, and I had just recently read "Bianca's Hope" which is part of the Blind Date Collection, and so it was fun to go back and read Declan's and Zoey's story.
Content: Clean Source: Review Copy (opinion is 100% my own)
This was a fun romance anthology with the the theme of bad weather. All the stories have in common storms and other bad weather conditions that somehow interfere or ultimately bring together the characters.
For some of the stories, I really had to suspend belief as they were a bit more on the improbable side . Another story was not quite a romance but more an adventure/action story.
All the stories are easy to read and have likable characters and the situational plots and storms add to the interest. I recommend it to readers who like novellas and unusual story ideas.
I received a free ebook in exchanged for an honest review.
I enjoyed reading this collection of stormy romances. It's nice to read these collections as I almost always come across new authors that I like. There was one story that felt as though the plot only moved when a supporting character pushed it along, which was bothersome, but overall I liked the collection.
Love Right by Rebecca Rode- 3 stars Corie's ex fiancee broke up with her which left her untrusting of men, love and relationships. She meets Micah at a retreat her friend drug her to and remembers him as a player from high school. This was my least favorite of the colkection. It wasn't poorly written but I don't think the story worked as a novella. I think had it been longer I probably would have liked it more. I didn't care too much for Corie but I liked Micah. A group decision was made that I didn't find to be believable and then Micah and Corie got very personal very fast. It just didn't work for me.
Waves of Deceit by Donna Weaver-3 stars I liked this story. I think the second chance at romance story works well as a novella. Shelby and Wade were likeable characters and there was some mystery and action as well.
Secrets in the Storm by Cindy Hogan-4 stars This novella starts where Fatal Exchange ends which was a pleasant surprise. I like Jeremy and Christy and the mystery was well written.
Back to You by Jo Noelle-3 stars I liked Zara and Trevor. I thought the situation with Zara's mother was sad and I didn't like the occasions where Zara was working in the funeral home she owns. The romance portion was good and I liked the mystery surrounding Trevor's company.
Twisters & Textbooks by Lindzee Armstrong-5 stars This is my favorite novella in this collection. I loved Tanner and Lauren's story. It reminded me a little of the movie Twister. The epilogue made me smile.
Zoey's Place by Rachel Branton-5 stars I enjoyed this novella as much as the last one. Zoey and Declan were likeable characters and I liked the setting.
This was such a fun read. So many exciting stories in it. There's a fun mixture of humor and well-meaning friends (Love Right), undercover boss (Back to You), terrorist attacks (Secrets in the Storm), thrilling tornado chasing (Twisters & Textbooks), and rescuing family while caring for animals in a refuge during a terrible storm (Zoey's Place--I had to go and download Lily's House Without Lies after reading Zoey's Place). And, of course, I loved Waves of Deceit. But I'm biased there. ;)
And all of these with the sweet elixir of clean romances.
Romance, clean This was a fun collection by various authors. Over all well done, and the authors came up with some unusual takes on the stormy kisses theme. Fast-paced, some fun, the storm setting was unique with each novella, and of course the different romantic stories were clever from the different authors. I chose to read this collection because of one author that I follow, and was pleased to find some new authors to add to my reading list. The various settings, and genres (suspense, mystery, action, etc.) and different romantic situations made for a fun read. Glad to have read this.
Fun, clean collection of stories. There was one that got on my nerves because the best friend felt like nothing but a plot device to force the story where it needed to go. But overall, they were well written and cute.
This is a hard one to rate. There are several small works in this one "novel" by different authors. So while some (the first and the last) were a five star, some ranged around a two star because you had no character depth.
I was given the Advance Review Copy (ARC) of the Kindle version of this book in exchange for an honest review.
All the stories in this anthology are set in areas of the USA where the weather poses a serious threat.
Story 1- Love Right by Rebecca Rode
Sofia and Corrie are best friends and go to a lodge in Colorado to celebrate Sophia's birthday. Sofia has just broken up with her boyfriend. Corrie is a successful author and relationships expert in the process of promoting her book, Love Right. They go to Colorado with guys. Micah Calloway and Corrie know each other from high school. Bit by bit, they get talking. One day, during a trip to a snowboarding lesson, she and Micah pair up, as do Sophia and a guy called Tim. The four of them decide to take a trip up a mountain. There are moments of tension and romance. The cave scene was my favourite, although the story kept me interested throughout. 6/10
Story 2 Waves of Deceit by Donna K. Weaver.
Shelby's father is a billionaire, and has had parental rights for her over the last decade. She sees her ex in the coffee shop. The book did not draw me in much at all with the meeting, but was much more fun when the characters got to the island. Lots of action, tension and suspense. The worst part was when Shelby called her boyfriend stupid, which I thought was really out of line and a bad way to treat someone, especially the person she loves. 3/10
Story 3- Secrets in the Storm by Cindy M. Hogan
Another story involving spies, Jeremy and Christy. The first story was in the Sweet and Sassy Anthology: Sand and Kisses, which I also reviewed. This follows them as they solve another case. There's nonstop action in this one, and the characters are well-formed. I'd love to see romance without them working and get to know them that way too. There's not much romance, it's more of an action-packed story.
3/10
Story 4- Back to You by Jo Noelle
I was pleased to see another story by this author. I also reviewed a story by her in the Sweet and Sassy Anthology: Sand and Kisses. Zara is the protagonist. She is the main caregiver for her mum, who has early-onset Alzheimers. One night, her mum goes wandering off and Trev brings her home. Trev is an old friend of Zara's. Trev has set up an outdoor adventure business and Zara is also very outdoorsy, having volunteered for the mountain rescue team. This is a story about rekindling relationships. It has enough substance to really make me feel for the characters and I also learnt about Alzheimers.
10/10
Story 5-Twisters and Textbooks by Lindzee Armstrong
Tanner and Lauren met at a meteorology class in high school. Lauren has had a difficult life, her parents passed away when she graduated high school. The death of a teacher force she and Tanner back to their hometown of Sunset Plains. They were devoted high school sweethearts and Tanner still can't stop thinking about her despite the time that's passed.
Now, Lauren's a storm chaser, and Tanner teaches meteorology. This is a very heartfelt story and has a lot of feelings. There's family tragedy and feelings surrounding lost love.
10/10
Zoey's Place- Rachel Branton
Zoey Morgan looks after animals at Safe Haven Exotic Wildlife Sanctuary. She falls for Declan and they both seem very caring. I found myself feeling very concerned about the animals welfare during the storm as well as Zoey's and Declan's. Zoey and her sister Bianca get on well. This story is part of a series and I'd like to read the other stories in the series. Great character building and atmosphere.
10/10
All the stories have some typos and/or grammatical errors which lets the book down, but the collection was good. I especially enjoyed the last 3 stories. Overall this book is 4 stars for me, basically because of the strength of the last 3 stories. The first 3 just were not as good in my opinion
Fun collection of novellas. Since this collection was titled “Stormy Kisses”, I knew that each story was going to have a storm of some sort. I think that kind of lessened the intensity of the climax for a couple of stories- they couldn’t catch the audience by surprise. It was still a nice collection to read. My favorite story was “Waves of Deceit” by Donna K. Weaver.
My personal rating: “Love Right” by Rebecca Rode – 4 stars, very enjoyable, first time reading her work; “Waves of Deceit” by Donna K. Weaver – 5 stars, good story, a little mystery with it; “Secrets in the Storm” – 3 stars, this is a continuing story of super spies Christy and Jeremy, but this was my first time reading about them and I felt a little disconnected because of that. Also, some of it seemed a little far-fetched, but it was still ok; “Back to You” by Jo Noelle – 4 stars, interesting characters, liked the plot, some editing errors (like POV switching in the middle of a chapter without warning – that’s kind of a big thing to miss!); “Twisters and Textbooks” by Lindzee Armstrong – 3 stars, started out liking it, but then it felt a little forced. It was ok; “Zoey’s Place” by Rachel Branton – 4 stars, repeating characters from House with No Lies, but can be a stand-alone story. I had read the novel, so I was familiar with the characters and this was a nice read. The romance in each story is clean. Overall rating is 4 stars.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
SWEET & SASSY ANTHOLOGY -STORMY KISSES WAS GREAT TO READ BUT A LOT OF THE STORIES I DIDNT WANT THEM TO END. I WISH SOME OF THE STORIES COULD HAVE WENT ON. THE FIRST BOOK LOVE RIGHT IS ABOUT CORIE WHO WROTE A BOOK ON HOW TO TELL IF HE IS THE RIGHT MAN FOR YOU. BOOK TWO WAVES OF DECEIT IS ABOUT SHELBY AND WADE. WADE HAD FOUND OUT THAT SHELBYS DAD WAS RICH AND HE BROKE UP WITH HER. SHELBY HAS BEEN HOLDING A GRUDGE ABOUT THIS FOR YEARS. NOW WADE IS BACK AND THEY MUST WORK ON A PROJECT TOGETHER. BOOK THREE IS SECRETS IN THE STORM . CHRISTY TRIES TO SPEND A ROMANTIC DAY ALONE WITH JEREMY WHEN THEY COME ACROSS A TERRORIST PLOT. JEREMY'S EX COMES INTO THE SCENE AND JEALOUSY ARISES. BOOK FOUR IS BACK TO YOU. ZARA AND TREVOR DID EVERYTHING TOGETHER UNTIL TREVOR MOVED AWAY AT THE AGE OF 13. HE NEVER GOT OVER HER AND WHEN HE MOVES BACK TO TRY AND FIND OUT WHO IS STEALING FROM HIS COMPANY THE OLD FRIENDS CANT SEEM TO GET IT TOGETHER. BOOK FIVE TWISTERS AND TEXTBOOKS IS ABOUT LAUREN WHO LEAVES TOWN AFTER GRADUATING AND HER PARENTS DEATH. SHE LEAVES BEHIND TANNER WHO IS HEARTBROKEN. BOOK SIX IS ZOEYS PLACE. ZOEY IS WORKING AT A SAFE HAVEN WILDLIFE SANCTUARY AND IS ATTACTED TO DECLAN. THEY MUST WORK TOGETHER DURING A STORM BUT WILL THE PAST KEEP THEM APART. LOVED ALL THESE BOOKS. GOOD CLEAN READING.
I am torn as to how to rate this anthology. There are a couple of stories in the collection that I definitely re-read, yet a few are totally forgettable. The only thing they have in common is the element of a storm in each one. Secrets in the storm was a fun read because I have read other stories about Christy and Jeremy. Otherwise, I might not have liked it as well. Zoey’s Place was a fun read, but I have read the next in the series, so I knew how it would turn out from the beginning (which takes away some of the excitement!) An easy beach read--nothing breathtaking, earth shattering or so intriguing that you can't put it down as needed.
The thing with anthologies is, there will always be stories that you really love, and some that you find are just okay in the set. I really liked all of these stories. I found them to be original, with engaging characters, great action, clean romance, and satisfying endings. I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to recommend this collection. A good number of talented authors came together to write this anthology of clean romances. Well done! Here's a brief summary of my thoughts for each novella included in the set:
Love Right- Rebecca Rode
In this story, Corie and Micah survived a night in a blizzard and an avalanche, along with a concussion and a knee injury. Corie remembers Micah as being a "player" in high school and wants nothing to do with him now. But, maybe people can change... Great story. A new author for me. Really enjoyed it. 5 stars.
Waves of Deceit by Donna K. Weaver
Her father is a billionaire and she works for him. But, she can't stand him. She feels he doesn't love her and never has. She's more like a possession than a daughter. So, at every chance, she tries to run from his security detail to make him angry. This time, she sent out résumés, determined to break away from her father for good. But there's a threat against her, and it's serious. Full of plot twists and nonstop action, this is another winner for author Donna K. Weaver! Excellent story. Most definitely worth 5 stars!
Secrets in the Storm Cindy M. Hogan
Nonstop action and suspense in this spy adventure story! Very well written as well. Another great story.
Back to you - Jo Noelle
Very different storyline. The main character owns and operates a mortuary and her mother has early Alzheimer's. She's very adventurous too, and independent. This story is very well-written. The characters are engaging and well developed. The end was very satisfactory. I've always enjoyed these authors. I rate this story 5 stars.
Twisters and Textbooks Lindzee Armstrong
In this story, Lauren is obsessed with chasing storms and tornadoes. She feels closer to her deceased parents when she's near vicious storms. Tanner loves her and wants to protect her from the danger, but Lauren feels stifled. Will Lauren ever be able to grieve her parents' passing enough to find true love again? In this story, we see some characters from a previous book written by this author. A very exciting story with lots of intense action.
Zoey’s Place Rachel Branton
This story was also very good. It takes place at a wild animal sanctuary. Zoey's story seems to be part of a series, so that's always fun too - to have a continuation of a story.
I read this book for Cindy M. Hogan's Secrets in the Storm. I wanted to know what happened with Christy and Jeremy. It didn't disappoint. I enjoyed the rest of the stories as well, though I was uncertain and had no prior experience with any of the the authors. There were a few editing problems, especially with Back to You. It changed POV from one character to the next and back in just a few paragraphs. It was confusing and pulled me from the story. Still, that was one of my favorite to read. All in all, I would recommend this collection.
Love Right - This was an interesting mix for me. I found the squabbling over who was in charge of the details of Sofia's party to be a little juvenile, as well as the situations from their past. And the situation they find themselves in where the storm comes into play seems a stretch as far as plausibility. I did enjoy some of the banter, the premise of Corie's work, and the ingenuity of the resolution.
Waves of Deceit - Shelby is a very like-able spit fire. I think she embodies a lot of the modern day independence, snark, and rebellion that modern girls relate to. The concept of the island was pretty fabulous too! I really would have liked to have seen a longer story-line with more experience with the different "villages" of the island in play. I hope this might be the setting for a future novel...hint hint. ;) Wade seems like a solid guy, but his excuses for what had happened to them previously were a little device-y to me. The conflict toward the end was tragic and sad, but contributed well to the story. And the surprise ending I kind of guessed, but I thought was well played.
Secrets in the Storm - This story is a whirlwind. There's a lot of story packed into these short chapters. I loved the adventure/thrill element to the story, I just wish it could have focused more on the romantic side of things, which it does to a point, but not as much as I wish it would have. I loved the way Christy and Jeremy work as a team. I love how they can't stay out of helping solve the crime. I loved the breadth of the scope of the plot details, codes to figure out, rough spots to genius their way out of, etc. I didn't love the whole jealousy/insecurity aspect of the story, and wish that whole scenario had played out differently. But, all in all, I was happy with the way things turned out...even though it was a pretty violent ending. I wish we could have seen more of the after story, which is where I would have loved to see more of the romance, but part of that is the space/time restrictions of novellas. ;)
Back to You - I loved this story about Zara and Trevor! This was very creatively crafted with lots of pathos. But, it also has such great elements of fun to balance that out. Their ancient history is very believable, and lends a sentimental charm to the overall effect of the story. The nature of Trevor's "job" adds an adventurous entertaining quality to their relationship since it's something they love in common. The Zara's inner conflict is painful, and it added a distressing element to the story, which resolves but may have been overly focused on a tad. The overall effect could have been achieved with a little less focus on that part of the story. Trevor's conflict wasn't a total shocker, but was very creatively concieved by the culprit. Which I appreciate, I like believability in criminal conspiracy.
Twisters and Textbooks - I think this was the saddest of all of these stories, and yet I was still able to love the ending. I love the messages of working through miscommunications, being able to forgive past mistakes, and finding common ground through compromise. It definitely throws some curves at you, and I wasn't sure how/if the resolution was going to play out, which added suspense to an already intense scenario with the weather. Tanner and Lauren definitely have a lot to heal from, and I thought this story did a great job of taking them through their emotional processes. Which is important for me to really 'feel' the story.
Zoey's Place - I love that this story is a branch off of the House without Lies series. At the beginning of this story, it's confusing to figure out who Zoey's love interest is going to be. Watching that play out was intriguing, although it becomes clear pretty quickly. I think she, without a doubt, ended up with the right guy for her. The storm is intense and stressful in this story, and with Bianca getting stranded out in the storm, it was pretty suspenseful. I hate the lawyer, but you're supposed to. I love the perspective of them dealing with the different animals. I thought the romantic tension was great, and there's bonding vulnerability from both of their pasts that cements their relationship pretty quickly and believably. Great stuff!
I was given a copy of this book by ebooks for review, and this is my honest opinion.
I love these anthologies because they are just the right length to read one or two in one sitting and come back to them later. I loved the cover of this one. I loved that all the stories were clean and appropriate for teens on up. These are authors I don't usually read, so it was nice to take another stab at their works. Love Right- I liked the other series by this author so I was excited to read something new from her. This story was a different genre than her series. Sadly, this one was just ok. It had a negative feel about it. I don't know if that's what the author was going for because the mc was leery of men or what. The best part of the story was from the cave to the end. I really liked Micah, but I didn't love Corie. Waves of Deceit-This was headed for my favorite story in this anthology. It had action, mystery, and romance. I wasn't expecting the mystery. I loved the history between the mc's. I pegged the bad guy. The main thing I didn't like about this one was that the mc called her boyfriend stupid. You don't call someone you love stupid. That ruined it for me. Secrets in the Storm-I didn't know what this one was about so I was pleasantly surprised when Christy and Jeremy popped back up. This one had me from the beginning. Christy is a genius heroine. The only thing I didn't like about this one was Jeremy's lack of communication and concern for Christy's feelings. If I had been Christy, I'm not sure I could have stayed with Jeremy after this. Christy seems to be more committed to/ invested in the relationship than Jeremy and that bugs me. I just can't tell from one minute to the next if they will stay together in the end. Maybe that's the way the author wants it though. I liked the setting and the time crunch to figure out the mystery. I complained that the last book with these two seemed to young. This one seemed to be for an older audience and I liked that. Back to You- This was one of my favorites. I loved the adventure in this story. It also had some mystery and romance. The only thing I thought was inaccurate was the fact that Zara didn't remember Trev when they ran into each other again. If they had had feelings for each other all those years ago, she's going to remember him. I also didn't understand why Trev couldn't tell Zara what was going on with his company. It caused unnecessary issues in my opinion. I liked how the author wove the Alzheimer's story in. That added another layer to the story. I loved toward the end when Trev told his "boss" who he was. Rob was a crack up. I laughed out loud. I'll read more by this author. Twisters and Textbooks- This one was my least favorite of the novella's. There were a lot of typos. I didn't like the mc's. Lauren seemed really immature and like she hadn't grown up since high school. I did like the growth and discoveries she made though. I guess that couldn't have happened if she hadn't been immature in the first place. The number of years since they'd seen each other seemed off by a couple years. The time line didn't match up for me. I've read another book by this author and I didn't love it either. Maybe I just don't like her writing style. Zoey's Place- I loved that I got another look at Zoey and her sister years later. It's great to see that they made something of themselves and rose above their abusive childhood. I liked the strength of the mc's. I liked the setting. I'm interested in reading the novella about Bianca now. All in all, a fun, relaxing read. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a fun collection of novellas. The first one Love Right is about Corie who has been disappointed in love and has used numbers to help others find the right guy. She has written this concept up in a book called Love Right. She has an interview about the book on national television in New York in a few days. In the meantime her best friend and roommates convinces her to go to a Singles week in Colorado where she meets a guy she vaguely knew from high school. When the two are fighting for survival against a fierce mountain storm she realizes she might have misjudged him. Waves of Deceit is a fast paced thriller. Shelby and Wade were sweethearts in college but have parted ways when Wade found out Shelby's father was rich. Now the two are working together on a project on a private island. When the two are running for their lives from those who would use Shelby to get at her dad, they discover that maybe there is a future for them after all. Secrets in the Storm is another Jeremy and Christy novella. This one starts off not long after the last one ended. The two are still trying to sneak in a romantic day alone when they come across a terrorist plot in Canada. They find themselves in the middle of it fighting the terrorist and trying to save lives. Back to You is about Zara and Trevor. They were best friends until Trevor moved away at 13. Trevor is back trying to figure out who is stealing from his outdoor recreation company. He is pretending to be a regular worker when he meets up with Zara again. Zara is dealing with the stress of a mother with Alzheimer's and find solace with Trevor. The friendship starts again with a lot more chemistry this time. Twisters and textbooks is about Lauren and her old high school sweetheart Tanner. Lauren's parents died in an accident caused by a tornado right before she graduated from high school. Lauren left everything and everyone she knows behind because she was not able to deal with the pain of her parents deaths. Now she is back and the love between her and Tanner is still there. Can Lauren deal with the last so that she can have a future with Tanner? The last one Zoey's place has a character in it from another one of Rachel Braton's books. Zoey is working at Safe Haven Wildlife Sanctuary. She is very attracted to her co worker Declan. The two work together to secure the animals in the sanctuary against a fierce storm and then go looking for Zoey's sister Bianca in the storm. Zoey and Declan start to learn each other's secrets. Can a relationship grow between them? I enjoyed each novella and it was fun to see characters from other stories by these authors.
This anthology is delightful. In Love Right, Corie is an author about to get her big break on a morning interview show in New York City. Her best friend and roommate, Sophia, talks her into going to Denver for a Singles retreat to celebrate Sophia’s birthday. When the weather takes a turn for the worse, Corie learns a lot about herself and love.
In Waves of Deceit, Shelby never knew her father until her mother died when Shelby was just sixteen. Her father’s attorney, Allen Bradley showed up at the funeral and took Shelby away from her painful childhood. When Shelby fell in love in college, she knew Wade was the ONE. But when Shelby told Wade who her father was, he reacted terribly and Shelby ran away. Four years later, the two are thrown together to work on one of her father’s construction projects but life threats against Shelby complicate things.
In Secrets in the Storm, spy Christy and her handler Jeremy finally sneak away to Jeremy’s families deserted ski lodge for a romantic weekend. When they arrive, they find there has been a break-in with remnants of a bomb having been made. As they fly in a helicopter to Calgary to share their evidence with the authorities, a terrible storm arises, complicating matters.
Back to You is a story about best friends reunited after Trevor moved away in the 8th grade and came back to his home town in Colorado as un undercover boss to find an embezzler. I enjoyed this story but the grammatical errors made me cringe.
In Twisters & Textbooks, Lauren’s parents are killed by a tornado just a few weeks before her High School graduation. When her boyfriend, Tanner tries to help her through this terrible tragedy, she feels troubled and literally runs away. Now four years have passed and Lauren returns to her home town to attend a funeral and face not only her pained past but Tanner.
Zoey’s Place tells the story of Zoey who works at an endangered animal refuge. When a huge storm arises, they batten down all the animal cages and hunker down in the break room until Zoey gets a call from her younger sisters’ roommate, asking if Bianca arrived safely. Zoey braves the storm to rescue her sister and gets a lot of help from her secret admirer.
A sweet collection of romances set around the theme of extreme weather.
Love Right - This is a second chance romance. Corrie and Micah knew each other back in high school. My criticism is that Corie seemed too over the top. It was as if she never left high school and the events surrounding the blizzard seemed unrealistic to me.
Waves of Deceit - Another second chance romance where Shelby and Wade dated in college. This one also felt too unrealistic for me to truly enjoy it.
Secrets in the Storm - This is an ongoing series featuring super spies, Christy and Jeremy. Their romance has to remain secret. Unfortunately, every time they try to get together, something goes terribly wrong. Also, unfortunately, the couple doesn't hold my interest and I find myself skipping pages.
Back to You - This is also a second chance romance and was a bright spot in the collection. It's somewhat emotional as Zara has to face the reality of her mother's early onset Alzheimer's, but the author does a good job trying to balance that with the romance.
Twisters and Textbooks - Also a second chance romance. My criticism is that it seemed that Lauren never quite grew up and faced her past pain. Consequently, she irrationally lives in the danger zone and pushes away the one boy who honestly loves her. I failed to understand why Tanner kept going after her.
Zoey’s Place - Another bright spot in the collection. Zoey is a survivor from a horrible past that she tries to hide. However, when Declan shows his honest care and affection, he's able to break past her walls. When Zoey learns that her sister is lost in a storm that's flooding out the roads, it's Declan that comes to her aid to search for her sister.
Even though I enjoyed this story, I wish I had read it before the author's contribution to the Sand and Kisses collection. This story about Zoey actually happens first. I would have rather read them in the correct order.
Love Right – I love reading stories that are quick and to the point. Ones you can finish in an hour or so. This story did not disappoint, but I do doubt that love can be found in less than a week. But, that aside, I did love the storyline.
Waves of Deceit – I really liked this novella. Have you ever wondered if “The One” got away and dreamed of a second chance? Well, some dreams do come true and second chances can happen – even on an island while being under attack. This story is short, but definitely delivers.
Secrets in the Storm – This novella was very action packed. Sometimes jealousy rears its ugly head and makes us stop trusting the people we love. But, thank heavens, intelligence takes over and we know who to trust and what to do. When you love someone with your whole heart and they reciprocate, any storm can be weathered.
Back to You – Sometimes in life, we have the opportunity to revisit our past. We get the chance to connect with old friends and form new friendships. And sometimes old crushes have a way to ignite our souls to help us become who we really should be.
Twisters & Textbooks – We have all lost loved ones in our lives and would do anything to feel close to them – even if that was something dangerous and leaving loved ones that are still here. Chasing tornadoes is such an adrenaline rush and makes her feel close to her parents, that Lauren isn’t sure she can give it up. Maybe true love would be able to give her that same rush, but in a different way.
Zoey – This was a great novella. I know that when people have been hurt, whether by family or loved ones, accidentally or on purpose, it is really hard to bring their walls down and accept that other people do care about and love them. But, when friendship and chemistry are already there, love is not too far away.
Sweet & Sassy Anthology: Stormy Kisses is a terrific read made up of six stories by six remarkable romance writers. This particular anthology has the following stories: Love Right by Rebecca Rode; Waves of Deceit by Donna K. Weaver; Secrets in the Storm by Cindy M. Hogan; Back to You by Jo Noelle; Twisters & Textbooks by Lindzee Armstrong; and Zoey's Place by Rachel Branton. While every story in the anthology is great...my personal favorites were Love Right by Rebecca Rode, Back to You by Jo Noelle, and Zoey's Place by Rachel Branton.
There's something wonderful about second chance love. Rebecca Rode and Jo Noelle have given us a wonderfully crafted tale of love and second chances. The story of Micah and Corie in Love Right, as well as the touching story of Zara and Trevor in Back to You, are both so magically told that you feel like these characters are your friends and family, too. The storylines are beautifully spun with well developed characters that keep you turning those pages. Micah and Corie face being stranded on a mountainside after an avalanche: while Zara must deal with a mother with Alzheimer's who is losing her grip on reality at an increased pace with all the inherent dangers, and Trevor's company is systematically losing money from an insider/employee that is eluding all Trevor's efforts. In Zoey's place, Zoey, Stephen, and Declan must work hard to find Zoey's sister who is missing during a storm. The Wildlife Sanctuary and all its animals are endangered as well.
Every story is a winner--and comes with a guaranteed HEA. You really need to grab a copy of this book for your very own library. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.)
I read Waves of Deceit by Donna Weaver from this book. It's about Shelby. She's a young woman who's risen through the ranks of her father's business, but she feels that he doesn't care for her because she's never even met him. That's a bit crazy, but you'll have to read the story to find out just why she hasn't. Her father wants Shelby assigned to his pet project an island resort that seems to be having problems. The catch: she has to work with the young man that spurned her when she was in college, Wade. Shelby has no idea how she's going to be able to work with him, because she still has feelings for him. This book kept me interested and intrigued with a crazy plot including a huge storm, friends who may turn out to be traitors and of course the intrigue of not knowing her father.
I also have read Secrets in the Storm by Cindy Hogan. I loved this one as well, it's the latest in her Christy series. I love how Christy and Jeremy keep thinking their going to sneak away and have time to themselves, but somehow they always end up in trouble. This time they're in Canada and they stumble upon a crime that they can't just let go, there is too much at stake for that. I love the way that Christy can take care of herself, she's a strong, in charge young woman. It's been really fun to watch her grow from the scared high school girl who witnessed a crime and has no idea what to do about it to the young woman who is always in the thick of things and trying to fix every situation she can. This is a cute story, I enjoyed reading it!
I love these Sweet and Sassy Anthologies. They're always full of cute, clean books that I enjoy.
This is a collection of six short stories by different authors. As the title suggests, a common factor in the stories is rain and storm. Before the start of each story is a brief summary.
These were really great stories. I like them all. Each has a unique story line and I wished they were longer. I can't decide which one was my favorite. I enjoyed them all so much. They were sweet but not sappy. All the women in the stories embodied strength of character. They were not hapless maidens waiting for knights in a shining armor to save the day. Though, the men were there nevertheless to make sure our heroines were safe and gave them more strength when doubts started to set in. I like that the stories spotlighted empowered women. Women who are really good, if not excel in their careers.
The stories were all well-crafted and the authors really spent time trying to come up with a really great plot. It was a delight to be reading these stories and I can't help but feel the tension and danger the characters had to go through. I was transported to the various scenes in the stories. It brought back happy memories like the first time I tried to zip line over a forest. And I wish that one day I could ski in the slopes of Colorado. All these stories brought back similar experiences that made me relate to the characters and the circumstances they were in.
I give it 4/5 dark rain clouds. This is an excellent collection. The stories were really inspiring. They make me want to fall in love over and over again. I would love to read them all in full version.
