Eve Lloyd, a death knell? Eve refuses to believe her choice of words had something to do with inviting a killer to the island, but just to be on the safe side, she agrees to avoid all use of any and all words related to killing. However, it might already be too late… Her run in with a local artist, Reginald Bryant Burns, has put her in an awkward position. Trying to make amends, Eve resorts to bribery, but that only makes matters worse and now… She’s a prime suspect in a murder investigation. The timing couldn’t be worse. She has a date with Detective Jack Bradford and the killer is threatening to ruin it for her.
Eve continues her 'vacation' on the Island as she tries to figure out the next chapter of her life. Of course she and Jill get caught up in the next murder to happen on the island. This second book in the series is just as fast as the first one and Eve's ability to find and dismiss suspects and motives is undiminished. The editing is much better than the first book. I enjoyed the book and the mystery. I did not enjoy Eve as much in this story. I found myself annoyed with all her lying and often found myself thinking her ideas and decisions were stupid instead of funny. But it didn't stop me from reading it right to the end. I hope the next book gives us back the funny.
Book number two, loved reading this book, I love ❤️ the way the Author tells her story, the humor, the bantering between friends and most of all the plots. On to book three..
Eve Lloyd, former restaurant owner and currently unemployed while searching for a perfect job, joins up with her new friend, artist Jill to enjoy the island while job searching.
The duo run across an acerbic rather famous artist, Reginald Bryant Burns. Mr. Burns is as pretentious as his moniker. During their encounter at the town's Bakery, Eve is knocked down amidst a tower of cookies...her crime? Trying to get a meeting and look at the Burns Studio with Burns himself for her friend Jill.
This very unlikable artist has a bevy of family, ex's, and hanger-on's. Which one of them are the killer? For certain one is as the now former artist is killed by a donut from the top of the lighthouse.
When Detective Jack Bradford, and another detective come to continuously interview both Eve and Jill the girls decide they need to solve this crime or they will be in jail.
I loved the first in this series, and the second was just as good!! These stories are like Murder She Wrote, Columbo, and Laverne and Shirley all rolled into one awesome cozy mystery series!!
Eve's got herself in the middle of another murder.. Jill is inspired by the reclusive artist Reggie who has a getaway on the island. Wanting to do a good deed for Jill Eve waits for him at the café where he collects his adored donuts. He's noticeably absent because he has a large party of houseguests which includes his exwives, stepchildren, lawyer and various arty friends. When he finally turns up Eve does her best to flatter him into allowing Jill to visit his studio, but Reggie has a high opinion of himself, dismisses other artists as irrelevant and is incredibly rude barging his way out the door deliberately knocking Eve flying into a display of cookies. Wound up to fever pitch Eve shouts that someone "ought to snuff him out"! Later she tries sending a peace offering of homemade donuts with little reward. Cue the murder and all the fingers are once again pointing at Eve.
Eve can't leave it alone.. her desperation to clear her name gets her and Jill into plenty more trouble with Jack. Can she clear her name and find the real killer?
I really tried to finish this book! I got to page 141 out of 183 pages. but I am totally tired of the pot device that has the main female character trying to solve a murder while she has a romantic interest in the local law enforcement guy! Just couldn't go any further!
Amazin synopsis: Eve refuses to believe her choice of words had something to do with inviting a killer to the island, but just to be on the safe side, she agrees to avoid all use of any words related to killing.
However, it might already be too late…
Her run-in with a local artist, Reginald Bryant Burns, has put her in an awkward position. Trying to make amends, Eve resorts to bribery, but that only makes matters worse, and now…
She’s a prime suspect in a murder investigation.
The timing couldn’t be worse. She has a date with Detective Jack Bradford and the killer is threatening to ruin it for her.
The second in a cozy mystery series from an author that's new to me. Eve is living with her Aunt Mira on Rock-Maine Island. She's made friends with Jill, a local artist and is starting a relationship with the local Detective, Jack.
Eve has a tendency to speak her mind, and this gets her into trouble. When she runs into local artist Reginald Bryant Burns, and is humiliated by him, she says some things which she will come to regret. When he's found murdered, Eve becomes a suspect, so she starts to find out who has cause to murder the obnoxious artist so she can clear her mind.
I enjoyed reading this cozy mystery, read in a few hours. The books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.
This series has started out fun with a touch of quirky. As Eve tries to find a new career after a divorce and selling her restaurant , she visits her aunt Mira on a quiet, peaceful island. Then murders begin happening around her and she has to step in to solve them, right? Not according to Jack, the detective paid to put himself in danger. The two female characters are written as very immature, socially inept "girls" who should, in fact, be adults. It all works for a cozy read when you want a puzzle to solve, a little romance and some chuckles.
Eve Lloyd is banned from using any form of the words relating to death, her best friend Jill Saunders is going to be making bank on this one.
After an altercation with a local artist, Eve decides to use donuts as a bribe to get on his good side. The only problem is her donuts are the murder weapon of the artist.
Now she has to break her promise to both Detective Jack Bradford, whom she is in a tentative relationship. And also her aunt. Both of whom made her promise to stay out of trouble while she is once again housesitting while her aunt is away on a cruise.
A fun story with developed characters, and lots of humor.
Another great entry in the Deadline Cozy mystery series. Eve is still on the island looking after her aunt’s house while she is away on a cruise and of course, once again gets involved in a murder and the investigation that follows and of course, once again finds herself a suspect. Needless to say, she isn’t guilty but people are trying to make it seem that she is. Once again, she assists with the case being solved. Maybe she should consider being an investigator. Hmmmmm, something to think about.
Another good one in this series. As with book one, there is a nice dollop of humour along with a murder mystery which makes an enjoyable read.
Eve, along with her friend Jill, finds herself crossing swords with a not very nice artist. She tries to calm things down and put things right to no avail. Before long, Eve is a suspect in a murder investigation. It is up to her with Jill's help to solve the mystery or she could end up in jail.
Snuffed Out is book 2 in the Deadline series and was an enjoyable cozy mystery. The characters are likable and the mystery kept me guessing. Eve Lloyd is living with her Aunt Mira until she decides the next step in her life. Her boyfriend Jack is a police deputy and her friend Jill is an artist. An unpopular artist dies and Eve is the prime suspect and needs to clear her name before her aunt returns from vacation. There is humor, friendship, and a little romance. Very enjoyable.
Awesome. Our spunky divorcee is back. Being viewed as a sort of Grim Reaper, she agrees not to use any words dealing with death. However her actions lead her to having to solve another case. Who wanted to kill the artist? Why has she been set up to be the fall guy? It is a great light read and the romance is building up steam.
Sonia Parin has written a fabulous cozey mystery with a stroke of murder. There are vibrant and colorful characters painting a humorous yet deadly and intriguing small town murder with numerous suspects that makes finding who done it all the more challenging. Acquire "Snuffed Out " today so you yourself can enjoy it as much as I have. 🙂 Kat
Really enjoyed the quirky characters and the twist at the end. Well cone look forward to more. Just a bit of proof reading to fix a few incorrect words and all good.
Eve and Jill's friendship grows deeper as they attempt to discover the murder of murderers of an obnoxious famous artist. Her boyfriend Jack is removed from the case because Eve is a suspect. I know I will read the entire series to discover what Eve,Jill, Jack and Mira lives will bring.
Loving this series. However, the author says no language in her books. If you read these, there is some language...just in case you only read books that have no language in them. Otherwise, these books are great!
Eve and Jill are again involved in a murder. What reason for the murder money, a Picasso print something else? Jack and a new detective are both a step behind but Jack comes to the rescue. Another good read fom Sonia Parn.
I am really coming to like these characters and their relationships. Although this book had a few typos, it wasn't enough to put me off from enjoying the story.
This book is about tabby Winslow and she owns a book and candle shop.they do a lot of investigation and become like detectives to solve a murder. It is fun and entertaining lf you really like murder in small towns.this book was approved by netgalley and the publisher..
Sigh. What an idiot for a main character. Eve is a motor mouth without brakes, clutch, or throttle. This time, her mouth, on automatic, places her in the hot seat. The woman's stupidity, continuously making her the priumew suspect, is immeasurable.
Who killed Reginald Bryant Burns and why AND why use Eve's life buoy??? What's up with Brandon??? Where is the cannister and what does it contain??? I enjoyed this story and recommend the book.
The main character, Eve, doesn't have a lick of sense. Why do authors ruin their stories by making the main characters act so foolish? It turns me off reading any more of her books.
I enjoyed reading this mystery. It is set in an island and has some characters including nutty main character, funny side kick and a handsome detective.
