Returning home to Kansas City to care for her orphaned niece Holly and to catch the psychopath who murdered her sister, Haley Lambert must gain the trust of psychologist Grey Banes to help Holly remember what happened on that fateful night before the killer comes back to finish what he started. Original.
I didn't dislike this book, but the pacing was off. Not that it dragged, but everything happened at a pace that threw me off, especially the attraction/relationship- even for this genre, they were going at is so fast in the plot that I rolled my eyes.
The leaps in logic in this book baffled me, on multiple levels, and it really comes across at the other not showing their characters well enough, but just telling me directly what they are like/what I should feel about them.
The ending was fine in some ways, but the 'reasons' for the killer made it an annoying level of cliche.
First book I’ve read by Carla Cassidy. Liked it a lot. Haley goes home to her sisters house after her sister is brutally murdered leaving her 8 year old daughter Molly alone. Molly was hiding under the bed when her mother was murdered and now doesn’t speak. Dedicated cops, dedicated psychologists, and lots of love help both Haley and Molly survive. Good read.
Could not put the book down. Great murder, mystery suspense. And a good story of trying to think who did it. Several possibilities that all came together in the end. Another author to read!
Haley, a self-proclaimed drifted and loner, finds herself moving back to her childhood home because her sister was brutally murdered and she's the only living relative to take care of her 8 year old niece Molly. Molly happened to be home hiding under her mother's bed when her mother was attacked and killed. However, she's not talking and she doesn't want to remember what she saw. Haley is faced with becoming an instant mom to a troubled little girl and trying to find out who killed her sister. At the same time Haley is dealing with her own struggles with life and her feelings for a particular psyhotherapist (Dr. Grey Banes).
I loved this book! It brought several to tears to my eyes at Molly and Haley dealt with the death of their mom/sister as well as their own relationship. I LOVED the character of Grey Banes - he was described as such an amazing man and someone that was finally able to crack through Haley's shielded heart. He also has dealt with grief in his own life and is able to help Haley get through hers.
The killer was a sicko. I had guessed at who it was in the beginning, but not because the book didn't hide it well. It was just a good guess.
I definitely recommend this book for those who enjoy a good suspense with a touch of romance. The romance is definitely there but it's not a major part of the book. This book sort of reminded me a little of Karen Rose and her latest books.
I have got to start proofreading my updates...stupid autocorrect. That last one should say OCD not LCD. I thought this was a great book & 4-1/2 stars so rounded it up to 5. Grey was a great hero, not an alpha, more beta but that was perfect for Haley who needs a "rock" since she is a "kite" as the book says. I loved that even though they both had experienced tragedy, they found the strength to go on. Grey was still open to love. Haley took longer to realize what her issue was, but once she did, she faced it, put on her big-girl panties and called Grey to fix things. I loved how she took on the challenges of raising her niece even though she was terrified and wanted to run. She was not a perfect character but was relatable and human. I would recommend this one for fans of romantic suspense.
“As far as I’m concerned there’s nothing more appealing than a man who can cook. If you do windows and can fold a fitted sheet, then maybe we need to talk about a long-term relationship.” He laughed. It was a nice sound, deep and sexy. “I must confess, the folding of fitted sheets still eludes me.” “Then I guess we’ll just keep this casual,” she replied teasingly.
A 7 yr old girl witnessed the death of her mother. The last words that her mother told her was, "Don't make a sound." So, the girl adhered to that advice even when the police and social services found her. Her aunt on her mother's side quit her job and came to live with the daughter. The aunt wasn't married and had no children so she didn't know how to relate to this little person. But, eventually the little girl spoke & you'll be quessing until the last page who the murderer was,
Awesome from the first chapter it kept me going I keep thinking of three It could be three people but I was head on with one of them I will not give it away but I was a lil disjointed it was that person but they fit profile. Awesome book awesome author I enjoy her books and look forward to reading the rest I have in my TBR shelf.
Too perfect can lead to insanity. I knew from the jump something was wrong with his/her character, the killer. For some it will be a shocker for others it will make sense why the character is the killer. I love Haley and Grey characters that have characteristics of people in real life.
Good for light reading. Plot was decent though I wanted a mystery and I got more of a love story. I felt like the main character was way too distracted by a man, which made me not like her very much. Maybe that was the point?
I absolutely loved this book. You think you know exactly who did it and then all of sudden a twist happens that makes so much sense but still leaves you shell-shocked.
