I do love a good small town-ranch romance, but put it during the holiday season and I'm all ready to snuggle up and listen. Liz Isaacson is a new to me author and I was glad to try her holiday Christian romance on audio by a new to me narrator, Becky Doughty.
Christmas in Three Rivers is the eighth installment in the Three Rivers Rance series, but I had no trouble jumping in mid-series to listen to this collection of standalone Christmas novellas.
THE NINTH INNING: Beginning at Thanksgiving time, The Ninth Inning features a second chance romance for clothing shop owner, Andy Larsen, who is weighted down with a big dose of remorse for jumping to conclusions and ending things with cowboy Lawrence before learning her mistake, grieving her mom's passing, and now feeling lonely. Then after a year of awkward avoidance, Lawrence reaches out to her and she can get past her pride to word and apology. But, can they get past their struggles for a Christmas season second chance?
I found this a lovely deceptive story. At first, I was irritated at Andy that the only real barrier was that she messed up and couldn't cough up an apology and then she made the guy work even harder to win her back. But... no, there's more to it. Lawrence kept a lot of himself back that first time around and now, if he wants Andy to go all in, he needs to trust her with everything. Gentle, but layered.
TEN DAYS IN TOWN: Sandy Keller is tired of the dating scene in Three Rivers. Though she owns the pancake house, she's looking for a fresh start, which means an escape from the town where she grew up. When her older brother's best friend, Tad Jorgensen, comes to town for the holidays, it is a balm to his weary soul. A helicopter tour guide who experienced a near-death experience, he's looking to start over too--but in Three Rivers. Can Sandy and Tad navigate their troubles to find the path God wants them to take--and discover true love--in only ten days?
Poor Sandy has tried and tried again to find that special someone even while part of her dreams of leaving Three Rivers to see the big wide world out there. But, then her brother's friend comes for the holidays and they are attracted. Tad needs a place to land and think since he's lost his edge as a helicopter pilot and won't fly again. He faces the brother code, Sandy's self-esteem and vulnerability issues, and his own struggle to open himself to others. There were cringe-worthy mistakes and overreactions between them, but I was still rooting for them to figure it out.
ELEVEN YEAR REUNION: Pastry chef extraordinaire, Grace Lewis has moved to Three Rivers to help Heidi Ackerman open a bakery in Three Rivers. Grace relishes the idea of starting over in a town where no one knows about her failed cupcakery. She doesn't expect to run into her old high school boyfriend, Jonathan Carver. A carpenter working at Three Rivers Ranch, Jon's in town against his will. But with Grace now on the scene, Jon's thinking life in Three Rivers is suddenly looking up. But with her focus on baking and his disdain for small towns, can they make their eleven year reunion stick?
Eleven Year Reunion was characterized by 'vulnerability'. Grace feels raw about starting over after failing at a bakery on her own and she goes out on a limb to date a guy who is planning to move on by Christmas. Jon never lost that attraction toward Grace after her family moved away after high school, but he has no desire to put down stakes in small town, Three Rivers. He waxes hot and cold with Grace as he can't make up his mind about what he wants until she gives him an ultimatum. I appreciated the way the pair worked through Jon's struggles and Grace was forgiving when it was needed after her friends helped her see things from Jon's perspective.
THE TWELFTH TOWN: Newscaster Taryn Tucker has had enough of life on-screen. She's bounced from town to town before arriving in Three Rivers, completely alone and completely anonymous--just the way she now likes it. She takes a job cleaning at Three Rivers Ranch, hoping for a chance to figure out who she is and where God wants her. When she meets happy-go-lucky cowhand Kenny Stockton, she doesn't expect sparks to fly. Kenny's always been "the best friend" for his female friends, but the pull between him and Taryn can't be denied. Will they have the courage and faith necessary to make their opposite worlds mesh?
A woman running from her past encounters a sunny cowboy too good to be true- or is he just the man she's been waiting for to give her a reason to stay. Kenny knows Taryn is worth waiting for as she finds the courage to trust him with her secrets and her heart. Good steady character growth and romance development Leading to a heartwarming epilogue that capped the collection nicely.
"The Ninth Inning" is a very cute novella about the town's boutique owner and the local cowboy. Andy wasn't looking for love, had actually broken off one of the best relationships she had ever had, but Lawrence knew deep down that their love was meant to last. Through a little engineering and a few smooth moves, can this love be reunited?
"Ten Days in Town" was a different short of novella, it is not the "typical" Three Rivers story. We find Sandy, the pancake house owner wishing one moment she could fly far away and then another moment to forever remain within the comfort of her small town. Enter in her older brother and his best friend from college, jealousy flares from Sandy for the sort of life she wants when her brother becomes engaged. Can Tad, her brother's best friend, be the one she has been waiting on?
"Eleven Year Reunion" is a novella that had my heart melting over the sweetest between second chances and first loves! Jon and Grace knew each other as high schoolers, but were separated by a twist of fate and a move. Through failures and sour endings, they both want a new start and to find happiness that they have both been desperately needing; there's only one problem though, one of the doesn't like Three Rivers and cannot wait to leave! Can God be calling this couple back together for their second chance?
"The Twelfth Town" is an amazing short-story about Taryn, a star reporter until something drastic changed her life forever. Now she's running, whether from self-preservation or embarrassment, she has yet to figure out- all she knows is she has to get as far away from her past as possible. When she enters into the twelfth town in the past eight months she begins to feel a peace like she has never known before, one that suggests she might have found her true home, that is until a handsome cowboy throws her for a loop. Kenny is a happy, go-lucky former marine, who has been told more than once that he is just "too happy." Can his forever smile and charms win over the miserable Taryn and let her finally feel safe?
Fun clean romance. I love the author's writing. Always a nice mix of work, romance, and the setting is described so well. Always a magical read for me. Characters in need of healing, trust, and friendship, along with the romance. Hardworking, honest characters with great chemistry makes for a great read for me personally. Thanks for another great read!
This book contains 4 short stories that are all very good and each deserve their own review.
The Ninth Inning: This is the story of Andrea and Lawrence. This story is sometimes humorous and sometimes its a little hard on the heart. It's going to take humility to make this relationship work. I've been waiting for Andrea's story, ever since I've started reading the Three River series.
Ten Days in Town: This is Sandi's and Tad's story. Sandi is the owner of the cafe and Tad is her brother's friend. They have ten days to decide if they can make a relationship work. This story will make you smile.
Eleven Year Reunion: Grace comes to town to help Heidi finally open her bakery. She meets Jonathan, her high school sweetheart from eleven years ago. I like the play between Grace and Jonathan, although Jonathan gets stuck in his head. I kind of wished this story could have been longer. These two need more depth.
The Twelfth Town: This is Taryn and Kenny's story. Taryn is a newscaster and is hiding in Three Rivers to decide what she wants from her life. Enters Kenny, a friend and confidant to all females, except with Taryn the sparks fly. This relationship starts a a true friendship and fans itself to love. You know this is the foundation to most marriages, and probably why I liked this story best.
I love this book of romance stories! It was so much fun to read four different novellas set in the same wonderful place, Three Rivers Ranch. I enjoyed all four stories and would be hard-pressed to pick a favorite. The first one highlights a lonely young woman who owns a clothes boutique. When she gets her first online order, it's from the ranch her former beau works at. She is afraid to see him after her previous behavior of falsely accusing him of cheating on her, and breaking up with him. It's been a year, and it's the holiday time again. What she doesn't know, is that he arranged the online sale to get a chance to see her again.... it's a sweet story. The other stories have to do with a woman who owns a pancake house and when she meets her brother's friend, Tad, that comes for a visit...that's an interesting romance that takes off. Another story is about a baker, who is plying her love interest with all kinds of delicious treats- very fun to read all the descriptions, and a lovely romance. I also enjoyed the last story with the mysterious Taryn coming to town and being rescued by the former marine. Kenny, in a storm out on the ranch land. They are all well worth the read. I highly recommend this book. Thanks to the author for a copy to review.
A box set of 4 novellas about people in a mythological town named Three Rivers. The first story deals with a boutique owner and the man with whom she broke up a year ago, suspecting him of cheating when he had just been with his visiting sister. Both miss each other, but is there a 2nd chance for them? Another story details the adventures of a pastry chef who tried to jump into retail space too soon and ended up failing and in debt. She has moved to town to help an older woman start a bakery. They're cooking out of the woman's kitchen now, and also out of her own. She meets a man who she crushed on in junior high and dated in high school, until her parents moved away. She likes the small town but he doesn't. He owns a construction company in Omaha, and does the traveling to remote construction sites because he's single and all the other men are married with families. Will he stay in town to be with the girl he's never really gotten over or will he insist on going back home, even if it means breaking it off with her again? Another story focuses on a man who has decided he wants to stay in town, and who finds himself attracted to his friend's little sister. He used to fly helicopters for air tours over the Grand Canyon and lived in Vegas. Something happened on his last flight that has shaken his confidence, and he is done with flying. His dad owned a boarding stable and bred horses. The owner of the pancake restaurant in town, the friend's little sister, had dreams of escaping her small town. She has known him from his visits with her brother but something has clicked this time. Will she give up her dreams of leaving town to stay with him as he has done the research and wants to set up breeding and boarding horses there? Or will her dreams of leaving drive them apart? Last is a mysterious woman who has taken a job cleaning the cowboy cabins on the ranch at Three Rivers. She goes to clean the cabins at a time when the cowboys are supposedly out on the ranch working, but one man is in the cabins, just getting ready to zip up his jeans. He explains that he drew a job that left him filthy, and came back for a quick shower and change. His positive attitude amazes her and she finds herself relaxing around him. She seems skittish to him, so he moves slowly around her. She also notices his cammies sticking out of his closet when she cleans the cabin after he leaves that first encounter - her brother was also a veteran , made it home, and then died. His 2nd encounter with her is when he noticed her lost in a field while a particularly bad storm was starting. They hole up in a cabin set aside for emergency use as they can't get back to the ranch safely in the storm. He gives her blankets and the cot, and gets out his sleeping bag, and starts a fire in the stove for her. After that, they start taking lunch breaks together, and their relationship is in its early phases. She loves the town, but it is obvious she is running from something. Will she confide in him what she truly did for a living before she ran, and let the relationship progress, or will she run again? All the stories are told about Christians who attend church and do their best to listen to the still, small, and gentle voice of the Lord. There is an acknowledgement of physical attraction but lust doesn't enter into their interactions with the opposite sex. Still, most of the stories are too short. The character development is good for short stories, but they deserve more fleshing out and more of a resolution than the very brief ones they're given...hence 4 stars and not 5.
THE NINTH INNING: Andy has lost her Mama and with the Holidays coming is blue. Former boyfriend, cowboy Lawrence hasn't forgotten about Andy. Do they have the faith and humility to patch things up and start a new relationship?
TEN DAYS IN TOWN: Sandy owns the pancake house, she's looking for a fresh start. When her older brother's best friend, Tad, comes to town for the holidays, it is a balm to his weary soul. A helicopter tour guide who experienced a near-death experience, he's looking to start over too--but in Three Rivers. Can Sandy and Tad navigate their troubles to find the path God wants them to take--and discover true love--in only ten days?
ELEVEN YEAR REUNION: Pastry chef extraordinaire, Grace has moved to Three Rivers to help Heidi Ackerman open a bakery in Three Rivers. She doesn't expect to run into her old high school boyfriend, Jonathan. A carpenter working at Three Rivers Ranch, Jon's in town against his will. But with Grace now on the scene, Jon's thinking life in Three Rivers is suddenly looking up. Can they make their eleven year reunion stick?
THE TWELFTH TOWN: Newscaster Taryn Tucker has had enough of life on-screen. She's bounced from town to town before arriving in Three Rivers. She takes a job cleaning at Three Rivers Ranch, hoping for a chance to figure out who she is and where God wants her. When she meets happy-go-lucky cowhand Kenny, she doesn't expect sparks to fly. The pull between Kenny and Taryn can't be denied. Will they have the courage and faith necessary to make their opposite worlds mesh?

11-year reunion

The 12th town
Running from who she was, Tyrnn came into Three Rivers. Journalist took a job on the ranch and therapy at Courage Reins, meet Kenny a Marine cowboy whom Frank hired. Kenny waits and prays until Christmas and waits for all to gather before stepping into the future.
A sweet collection of Christmas novellas. It was fun to see some minor characters throughout the series get a romance story. I didn’t enjoy these as much as the previous books and novellas in the series, but they were still quick and fun reads.
Ninth A sweet and energetic second chance romance. Some trust issues that were a bit unsettling.
Ten: Brothers best friend romance. I enjoyed the different places these two characters came to this relationship from. While the romance was whirlwind, and this story was kinda different, there was a different thread of real ness to it.
Eleven I really do like how we see previous mains in previous books reappear in subsequent ones and get to see what’s going on in their lives. I enjoyed this second chance romance and the decisions that had to be made about feelings and likes.
Twelfth: This was a fun “incognito type” with some damsel in distress tones. I enjoyed these characters getting together.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I'm always a little conflicted about novellas because there isn't much time to develop the story but these did pretty well. It helped that in some of them the love interests knew each other previously so it wasn't insta-love and in the other, the story is over the course of more than a year so it wasn't a "we just met-let's get married" story either. But I thought it was a little weird that there was a public proposal knowing how mortified she was by the first one. I suppose the author meant to show she had healed over time but it was still odd. If you knew your love hated the public proposal before, why would you choose to do it that way? So yeah, I didn't like that part.
The stories were clean and while obviously Christian lit it wasn't over the top or in your face. I did wonder if the entire population of Three Rivers all attend the same the church though. It seemed like it.
Four stories about people that love and work at Three Rivers Branch
Ninth inning ---- Andy and Lawrence jealousy caused the breakup. A year later an apology and working on the root cause brought them together . Ten days in town---- Tad was Sandy had known each other for years. Tad was needing a career change . After connecting with Sandy he knew Three Rivers was the place. Eleven year reunion ---- Grace had come to Three Rivers to set up a bakery. Jon was there to do construction work. They had been separated since high school. Jon hated the small town but Grace couldn't leave. She taught him to love the small town The Twelfth Town----After an on air proposal and refusal Taryn just had to get away.Kenny saw her the first day. He knew there was more to her story. If he took it slow and easy she would tell him. All four are wonderful stories as only Liz Isaacson can tell
I need to preface this by saying that I am not a big fan of novella's as I find the stories too short to really get into, but when they are part of a series I do enjoy them more as I have already got to the know the town or characters. These four stories were sweet Christmas stories that help you get in the Christmas spirit. I really enjoyed the first two the most, probably because I had already met the main females in previous books. The other two stories I just didn't enjoy as much as I found I didn't really care about the characters. Overall it was a sweet Christmas read.
I received an complimentary copy of this book. The views expressed are my own.
This was very easy read. My only issue isn't really an issue with the book and the writing so much as with logistics. It's sort of exciting to read about places I know. So, needless to say, I was excited to read stories about the small town of Three Rivers, Texas, which is about an hour away from me. However, it was hard to wrap my head around the fact the book put Three Rivers, Tx in the panhandle, which then hurt the references to "Texas summers" versus those of Oklahoma, 'cause there's not a whole lot of difference between Ok and Tx panhandle!
Liz Isaacson is without a doubt one of the best authors. This set of four stories takes place at Three River's Ranch which must have special powers of some kind because lost souls show up there and God works through the other people on the ranch to help set the lost person in the right direction. Everything is not smooth sailing all the time but with their faith in God, difficult situations are handled. Each story tells a different character's trials as they fall in love. Wonderful feel-good books to read. Highly recommend.
Christmas in Three Rivers by Liz Isaacson is a novella with 4 short stories in it. Each story has people in it from the other ones and yet is completely different. I love going back to Three Rivers Ranch, old friends and meeting new ones, each bringing with them their hurts that become healed. I love visiting Three Rivers Ranch because it brings joy, redemption and lots of family, through heartbreaking situations. We find lost love brought back together, meeting as grown-ups, second chances and running away from shame. Each story is unique and wants you to get more.
I love this writer. This book is a collection of four novellas. If you have read any of Liz's Three Rivers Range or Courage Reines series, some of the characters may be familiar. I love the way she will add a new staring character to the plot, put you still get to see what is going on with the old friends. I did not give this book a five, due to the novellas. I enjoyed them, but felt they were rushed in some places. Great read, would definitely recommend it.
Taryn & Kenny are great addition to the Three Rivers families. Kenny is a marine who still has battle scars. But then who doesn't. Taryn escapes to this town running from the big city. I love all the characters and how they reach out with outreached arms to show hope to the hopeless and rest to the weary. Still picking up the pieces these two discover patience and hope for a brighter future. Will it be with each other? Gotta read this!
I really enjoyed these 4 short stories with couples from the Three Rivers Ranch. This is the first book I've read in the series but I enjoyed them so much I plan to go back and read the others. With not having read the series, it sometimes got confusing on who people were when it would switch so quickly to another couple that hadn't been mentioned yet in this book but I worked through it and enjoyed it. Definitely recommend.
I enjoyed reading these. They are clean stories about characters who overcome obstacles without compromising who they are. I got a sense of these characters being people who took their beliefs seriously. The stories are short so they move pretty fast, but it's just for enjoyment. At least, I found them to be good. If you enjoy clean, contemporary romance stories with a dash of spice here and there, you might try this collection.
Some of the 4 stories were sweet. However, I did find fault with one of them that had the main characters kissing the first day they met. I gave a 2nd star because the author has been consistent throughout this series of revisiting previous characters (e.g. married couples having children, etc.) I was able to read a copy of this book via Overdrive, but it did not in any way affect my review. All opinions are my own.
This is a collection of the next 4 books in this series (9-12). Wonderful additions to this series. This is a western/country themed romance series with a nice clean content. Each book is about a different resident of the town of Three Rivers and they all blend together nicely. I would recommend this entire series for all.
This was a collection of short romance stories with a great cast of characters at Three Rivers, Texas. I really enjoyed reading about new romances that also included how people from previous romances and part of Three Rivers were doing. It was like going home to the family you love.
Just when you are not expecting it, love slips right in.
Loved the way the author showed how each woman had given up trying to find her "true one", but how God can bring that "one" to find you when the time is right. Each story shows a lesson in how necessary it is to rely on His wisdom in the timing of when it is right.
I liked the main story and then the short samples of books to read I just got into the 10 Days in Town story and really wanted to finish it and it is not in Liz's list. Drat.... The stories are good that all revolve around various ones that live in a small town called Three Rivers. Each one are good that I read in the back of the main story. They are good clean goodreads
I Love this series! I don't think I will ever get enough of this loving and giving family. Liz Isaacson has completely embraced God and shares with her readers all the ways He is here for us.
Thank you for bringing endless smiles and the warmth God fills our souls with ~
The first two syyories come together two quick and not as smooth. The last two are more sweet and believable and they also provide such fun updates of almost everyone from The previous books. I loved getting to see how each of those stories had progressed. I liked the slower timeline of Taryn and Kenny very nice.
What a wonderful read. I loved all four of the short story's that I have read. It just tells you all things are possible if you only believe.Three River's sounds magical. The people that come to Three Rivers, seem to find peace, love and a reason to stay.
I liked all the different stories in this book. I was very sad that they were so short. It seemed that you were just getting to know the characters and things just started to happen and then the books ended. Other then the stories being too short it was a really good book.
Christmas in Three Rivers Liz Isaacson is a beautiful book with Christian principles. It takes place on the Three River Ranch. The characters are very nice and you get to know them quickly. The stories have content and are pleasant to read. Could hardly put the book down and I am curious about the next book.
