An enjoyable short tale of a woman and her dog. She's transitioning from work on the police force to becoming an FBI agent when she gets caught in a robbery in progress. The bad guy that gets away comes for her, and it's up to her childhood friend and longtime crush to keep her safe.

Mini-review: This was good until the end. At the end, Dylan (who I swear was based off of Eric Beale from NCIS: Los Angeles) the team hacker, the guy in the chair (as Ned Leeds would say) and who doesn't do field work in any other book goes on to the field and becomes a knight in shining armour for his lady love, who I forgot to mention is an ex-cop and is training to be a part of the FBI. What? You, a scrawny hacker with glasses and who wears Hawaiian shirts (see, Eric) is suddenly strong enough to save a cop? Why can't we have a LIS where the woman saves the man. #annoyed

"Agent in Training" got off to a rocky start for me as it seems to rely on an impossibility. K-9 officer Zara Fielding and her dog, Radar, interrupt a night-time robbery in progress. She hides behind crates, in the shadows, calls a report in to the police - then her phone rings. As she crouches down, don't forget, in the shadows, one of the masked gunmen approaches and opens fire. She fires back, he falls to the ground.
The second robber is in the getaway truck and has already turned the engine on. He shouts out that she is a dead woman. How does he know, has he got X-ray vision? It seems unlikely that Zara moved out from hiding into plain view.
And, of course, the wounded robber is no ordinary criminal - he's "a known associate of the Dupree Crime Syndicate."
It's a good thing that Zara has a highly placed friend: "That was where faith in God made such a difference. Knowing He was in control gave her peace."
It may give her peace, it sure as hell won't give her any protection against the notorious Dupree Crime Syndicate.
I'm not a fan of Christian fiction that does not identify itself, I'm not a particular fan of Christians - self-righteous and determined to put the world to rights (not all, just some, but they tend to be the ones who seek to achieve power and tell me how to live my life!). I'm Irish, I know whereof I speak.
So, "Agent in Training" needs to be something special to overcome my prejudice and so far it ain't cutting the mustard.
There's a fairly dodgy love story crowbarred in, Zoe has had feelings from afar for Dylan, and ditto for Dylan. Neither is prepared to cross the imaginary line. Dylan: "He hoped Zara didn’t recognize he cared for her in a very unbrotherly way." Zara: "He covered her hand and lifted her palm to place a kiss in the center. Her world shifted ever so slightly. He’d never shown more than brotherly affection toward her, but this small, seemingly insignificant gesture rocked her to the core. Was there the possibility that he could feel more for her than she thought?"
Get a room you two - hang on they are in the same room in his house. But it being Christian and all that there is little chance of hanky panky!
Almost immediately after the two are hijacked and Zara calls out to her imaginary friend: "She took a shuddering breath and dropped her chin to her chest. “Lord, please protect us. Let the team find us. We’re at Your mercy. Amen."
God, surprisingly, fails to appear and rescue her - he must have been busy somewhere else. Them's the breaks when you need help from above.
I realise that this is very snarky, but, on my word of honour, it would not be quite as dismissive if this was not such an awful piece of writing. It is genuinely dreadful.
There is, of course, a HEA, and thankfully it came after a merciful 45 pages. The best thing "Agent in Training" has going for it is that is it short.
It will be a cold day in Hell before I read another book written by Terri Reed.

Zara Fielding and Dylan O'Leary have been friends for a very long time. In fact, when Dylan's parents died when he was 16, Zara's parents took him in since her brother is his best friend. The trouble is, they're both in love with each other, and neither thinks they can admit it because it will ruin their friendship. Now, they work together, too. She's the intern for the FBI's Classified/Tactical K-9 Unit along with her border collie Radar and Dylan is the communications expert. When she witnesses a pair of men robbing a jewelry store, she calls it in, but is discovered before help can arrive. Shots are exchanged and one of the men is injured. Zara and Radar are unscathed, but the remaining man swears he will kill her. He almost immediately sets his plan for vengeance in action and Dylan, Zara, and Radar are in danger from then on. Both Dylan and Zara pray for guidance, strength, and protection after they are captured and both have to decide if they should admit how they feel before one or both of them is killed.

I wish this had been a longer story and I'm really hoping that Zara, Radar, and Dylan are in the other books in this series. I plan to pick up the first one - Guardian - by the same author soon.

Best of every thing

I love this series, both the full length and the shorter novellas. The love inspired is a formulaic sub-genre of the romance category which is centered on prayer and God. However, the stories are well written and have strong characters that defy most stereotypes.
This novella is a beautiful example of this with both the female protagonist and her dog battling (and winning) a case of PTSD. Having lived through a bombing, officer Zara and her dog, Radar, have spent a year training to return to duty. After a day of upper level training, Radar alerts while Zara is driving home. Trusting her dog, Zara stops and foils a burglary but must shoot one of the perps. Can Zara and Radar outsmart the perps partner? If long time friend, Dylan has any say in the matter, Zara will! But just how close a friend does Dylan wish to be?

Quick and exciting intro to the Classified K-9 Unit series

Dylan works in the Classified K-9 Unit, Zara is an intern there. They have known each other a long time. When Zara gets in trouble with a dangerous criminal it takes Dylan and her K-9 Radar to try and help her. Can they all manage to survive? This short story introduced some of the main characters in the Classified K-9 Unit series.

The pace is fast and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with a character and action oriented storyline that has no steam. The characters are vivid and endearing. Enjoy this and then go on to read the whole series which is more in depth.

Dependable K9 instincts

This was a cute story about the love two people have for each other and how they finally admit it during a crisis. They are part of an FBI K9 group and the story shows how valuable these dogs are and what they are capable of doing. It is a quick and enjoyable read. After reading this story I plan to read more of the series.

Inspiration in Law and Order

All of the elements are here and Terri Reed used them to create a great Agent in Training novella. The suspense, drama and undercurrents of love result in a platform for more to follow. I would prefer more descriptions to help me visualize locations and character nuances. Happy Reading!

I have read 3 of the 7 books in this series so far, and I am hooked. I have enjoyed each book, and look forward to reading the other books. This book had intense suspense. Zara, and Dylan were locked in a trunk together, and the car was pushed into a river. The action was good, and the romance between the two agents was sweet. I also loved Radar Zara’s K-9 partner. Excellent book.

In-Training FBI

Fred's story starts with agents hunting for a crime family. A former police detective is working to get into the agency and actually work in the K-9 specialty. This book is more of a novella that leads to an intro into another of Terri Reed 's novels based on the same plot. It's good just rather short.

Too short!

As with all of Terri 's books, I would like more! But I always look forward to the next book. And the next one, well, you get it. Ani animal stories are also a favorite so this was special.

FANTASTIC!

If you're a fan of working dogs, the hero dogs who work with law enforcement to protect us, then you will absolutely love this book. In fact the whole series is great and it showcases how brave these dogs truly are. The romance is a pretty good thing too.

This novel has great potential, but it is way too short. I enjoyed watching the K-9 dogs at work, and found the development of the relationship of Zara and Dylon interesting. It is still a better read than some of the longer books in this series.

Too Short

It was a good story but with only 60 pages, everything happened too quickly and ended up being unrealistic. All the characters needed more development as well.

This book was super short as a prequel so not a lot to go on. But I liked the premise of the team and will be reading the series now so I guess it served its purpose.

Action from beginning to end

Wow, Zara and her K-9 partner Radar is heading home when Radar see something suspicious. Zara stop to take a look a bullets start flying. Dylan who was taken in my Zara's family when his parents were killed has been hiding his feelings for Zara for a decade, do she feel the same way. Time will tell if the survive. This story has house bombs, kidnapping, attempted murder and so much more. A great start to what looks to be a on the edge of the seat, cannot wait for the next book in the series.
