Having read all of the author's work, I can easily say this was her best yet. I usually say that about all her books, but this one will be hard to beat. Still, I'm looking forward to see how she does it. She's fast becoming one of my most favorite authors.
Her books are full of emotion, plot twists, and characters that are so easy to relate to that it feels like we are friends rather than them just being characters in a book. It's like I'm living their story instead of just reading about it.
And it happened again with Derek and Erin. Especially Erin. Almost every woman has that one guy they've always pined for.
I don't know if it was the characters, the plot, or just the good writing, but the author has, somehow, converted me to liking rock n roll novels. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Just finished reading Derek's Thorn and absolutely loved everything about it. I am completely and utterly in love with Derek❤
Watching the love blossom between Derek and Erin was funny and beautiful at the same time. It's funny because love sometimes blind sides you and it's hard to know what to do with all the feelings inside.
I went through the whole emotional rollercoaster with the characters wondering what was going to happen next and loved the ride! Thanks for an amazing read definitely can't wait for what's next on the series!

I would actually give this book a 4.5 rating ---
Loved how the story started out from Erin's p.o.v. and bounced back and forth with Derek's, but for me I would have liked to be a little more in his head (I'm weird, I know). This is the classic story about a girl having a longtime crush and ending up in a situation that could have gone a lot farther south than it did - D ends up stepping in and rescuing her. Stuck between a crush and white knight status, Erin goes beyond star struck when D asks her to hang out. Step by step they learn more about each other and how similar they actually are. Little did they know they would become each others strengths and weaknesses. Can it be easy to control your heart? Probably about as easy as controlling your hormones.... and when you have an unlimited amount of sex, alcohol and rock and roll, it's even harder to hold onto your heart

This the first book I've read by this author. This book didn't work for me. There wasn't much substance to the plot. It's a friends with benefits who fall in love story. Only there really wasn't any story. The characters didn't to have any depth, they weren't fully threshed out, so it was difficult to feel a connection with them. I really had difficulty with the way the author handled the event that led to the couple's reconciliation. It was glossed over and minimized.

3.5 stars. This is a light hearted read for me. Its cute. boy and girl are cute and so is there story......
If you want a light feel good read, this is a good book. This is the first book I have read from this author. I like my story's with a little more grit to them.

i really liked the book just didnt love it! she has always had a crush on the guy who is now in a band. one night brings them together. he doesnt do relationships cause of his ex. will she be able to change his mind? read to find out.

La historia de Derek y Erin fue una dulzura.
Derek's Thorn trata sobre un baterista que salva a una chica, Erin, de ser atacada por un excremento de persona.
Y resulta que Erin ha tenido un crush por Derek desde que estaban en la secundaria. Nunca nada pasó ya que, Derek era de esos que sólo vivía en su mundo.
Pero resulta que luego de este desafortunado evento comienzan a pasar el rato y se dan cuenta que se lo pasan muy bien juntos. Gustos afines y toda la cosa. No está de más decir que Erin adora pasar tiempo con Derek, así que nunca declina ante sus invitaciones. Y Derek es tan genial que apaña en todas las locuras de Erin.
Son una dulzura sin llegar a ser empalagosos.
La verdad es que fue algo completamente distinto, con una de esas relaciones que se va construyendo de a poco, sin prisas, y sin darte cuenta ya estas metido hasta el cuello en ella. Y sin ganas de encontrar una escapatoria.
Hace tiempo que no sentía esa emoción en donde el corazón se te aprieta por lo que le pasa a los protas. Y Nate, con su sabiduría pothead era añadir más condimento a la mezcla.
Y para finalizar, ese acto de Derek fue épico. No se esperaba menos de él.

This is the first time I read this author and I'm glad I did. I really loved this book. It's a typical story and in the middle it was a bit flat, the dramas were too simple for me. But the beginning and the end are great.
No surprises though but it's a really good book!

Derek's Thorn is an enjoyable rock star romance, but I had anticipated more edginess in a rock band book.
Derek is the drummer for the band Ashes to Ashes. He is trying to recover from a very bad break up and is of course wary.
Erin has crushed on Derek since high school days and when they meet up again at one of his concerts they renew their friendship. They slowly work to trust each other and to trust their own feelings.
"The butterflies in my stomach were in full force. The more time I had spent with Derek, the more I liked him. Part of that was getting to know him as a person. Another part was developing more feelings for him. The small crush I’d had on him was growing."
There was really nice chemistry between all of the characters and I am looking forward to reading Nate's story next.

Wow! That was a great read. Erin and Derek are soo cute even if they're "just friends". so what happens when you're high school crush rescues you from something bad happening.......you start hanging out and get to know each other. Derek knew he knew the girl he rescued but couldn't place her. Couple days later Erin wants to return Derek's shirt from that night so they meet up at a diner. Conversation a bit slow to start but they ease into it nicely. Erin tells Derek they went to school together when he asks why she looks familiar. Being friends with benefits, no strings attached what could possibly go wrong?
Tara loved this one <3 You write in my favorite style, POV from each character and you kept me on my toes to see what would become of Erin and Derek and did not disappoint.

I just finished reading Derek's Thorn by Tara Lin Mossinghoff, and I thought it was a very enjoyable read. Two very different people, a second chance, what could go wrong?
The story begins with Erin, she has been in love with Derek all throughout high school. But he never noticed her. Time passes and he is a huge icon, living the dream of being a rock star. Erin knew she should have acted on her feelings, but now it's to late. Or is it?
One night changes everything.
Her savior, the one and only Derek.
What starts as harmless friends with benefits, slowly turns to love.
But can it last?
Read to find out.

Derek is a drummer in a band, and having been burned by an ex, is only interested in fun and friendship. Erin has had a crush on Derek since school, and loves the band he's now playing in. They're paths cross once again, and a friendship develops then becomes friends with benefits.
The characters were likeable, with a good mix of background characters too. But it was missing that spark that makes me want to not put a book down. An enjoyable book.

Erin has had a crush on Derek since high school but they never really knew each other back then. Derek saves Erin from a drunk guy at a club where they played. Soon Erin & Derek are inserpeable friends. Eventually lines blur and they become friends with benefits. What happens when one wants more but the other isn't ready?
This was a quick easy read and very sweet. I love a good rocker romance & this one fits the bill. I really enjoyed the dual POV and thought it worked very well with this storyline. The ending was so good.

I honestly didn't want this book to end. I fell in love with Erin and Derek. Erin has had a crush on Derek since school, before he was in a popular band. Never did she think he would be her savior. Things would never be the same after that night. They were just supposed to be friends, but what happens when someone falls in love? Even if it's hard to admit, you shouldn't hide you feelings. If you do, you may lose the best thing in your life. I was rooting for Derek and Erin to become a couple throughout the whole book. I really thought they complimented each other. Everyone needs to read this. Highly recommended

This is a really sweet romance and I was a bit surprised by that, as I think I thought this book would be more of the grittier and rougher variety. But it turns out that Derek is a sweetheart and the non relationship he builds with Erin, day by day through the story, is a special one that warms the heart.
A little slow paced but steady in the delivery, I really enjoyed this book and would definitely read more by this author.

Erin has had a crush on Derek since school, and has admired him from afar as he is in a rock band. When circumstances throw them together, the attraction is great between them. I enjoyed how their relationship developed, and loved the secondary characters as well.
This is a well written and intriguing story, and I was hooked from the word go. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. Awesome job Tara!

I liked the story a lot. I thought the chemistry was good between Derek and Erin. I felt though that nothing really happened throughout and that when the blowups happened, they didn't seem in character for Erin though. I feel like the story wrapped up too fast at the end and I would have liked more background for both of the characters. We got more insight into Ian's family than Derek or Erin's. I'm looking forward to reading Nate's story!!

Loved this book. Loved how the relationship developed between them, even though I did want to slap them to wake up. Also loved all the characters in the book def strong and would be interested to read there books!!!

I'm really awful at, and about, writing book reviews. I never know what to say without spoilers, and I just don't have a way with words. The best I can do is say I really enjoyed reading this book. I'm really looking forward to Nate's story next, and Max's after that!

I enjoyed this book, but wanted more details about band life. Those parts felt glossed over and rushed.
I love getting absorbed into the music world so would've liked more of that but overall enjoyable read.

Can Erin be my best friend? I love how strong she is, and how she interacts with Derek. Best friends moving out of the friend zone. It was a quick paced, great read.
