I love a book that makes me feel many things at once, and this debut by Heather Bentley succeeds.

Christina is both relatable and likeable, and this is her story. The remaining cast of characters serves to support her, including CJ (our hero), and makes for a fresh style of storytelling that's a welcome change from everyday, cookie cutter contemporary romance—which
Beautiful Lies is at its core, though at times has a family saga feel.

I could have lived in Christina’s past for many more chapters and sincerely hope Bentley considers a second “in-between years” book. There are so may facets to Christina's life I’d love to explore, starting with the tragedy that sets the stage for the plot.

Despite said tragedy and some tummy twisting details within, the book isn't overly heavy. There are many sweet, lighthearted moments, this one being my LOL favorite:

“God, I love wine. Wine is the best. They should put it in the water. I feel brave and smart and melty. Like Wonder Woman. I am so like Wonder Woman. Is that why she has so many W’s in her name? Because Wonder Woman likes wine, too? I bet that’s her super power. Drinking lots and lots of wine. What do you think?”

But then, only a few sentences down, Bentley has me tearing up again.

“I want to come home with you, CJ. Take me home with you.” I know tomorrow I’ll be embarrassed by the whine in my voice but I can’t seem to stop myself.

“Christina …” His tone is chastising as he continues to kiss me, but I don’t give up. Because, you know, I’m Wonder Woman.

“Please, CJ. I promise it’ll be good. I promise they’ll like me.”

It's the best blend of feels! ❤❤❤

I have this gorgeous book in both paperback and kindle, and I can't believe I let it sit on both shelves for so long. *thud*

A beautiful young woman who only wants to love and be loved by her family is haunted by family lies and secrets. Being the rich girl who she is and hates she lies about her life status to a young man who she met and fell in love with only to find out that he has also lied about his rich life status. But in the end they forgive each other for the lies and start a new life together with love and trust. I guess a beautiful lie is okay as long as it has a beautiful ending☺

Wow! So Good! This book is stay-up and read all night good! Instead of the unlimited freedom that one would assume wealth automatically brings, rich girl Christina Harcourt is imprisoned by her snooty, uptight and upper class family. Love her? They don't even like her. She is not allowed to make her own decisions about her life, her career or even the man she loves. Christina's family has already destroyed one relationship, Christina is not about to let that happen again, even if she has to disappear forever! Especially when her mother's tragic death reveals just how evil and duplicitous her family really is! Awesome story!

Delightful.

Recommended by a book buddy as a debut author to watch... and Heather Bentley didn't disappoint.

I loved the silver-spoon with a generous heart heroine. And I felt empathy for her in her inability to trust the emotions and feelings of those around her after growing up in a loveless home.

I enjoyed and couldn't predict the plot twists which was refreshing. It kept me guessing. I really liked the MCs together.

I probably would have welcomed more angst but that may be more because I've read a raft of angst-lite books lately and my heart is yearning to be broken.

Great first book. I'll be looking for more from this author.

Because fighting for what you want should never be easy.
This quote from Heather Bentley’s Beautiful story doesn’t sum it up but instead it makes you realize fighting for what you want should always be worth the struggle and learning how Christina/Sara had struggled with so much sadness, despite her wealth. C.J. Was a breath of fresh air! He was her match and she was afraid her wealthy controlling family would ruin everything between them.
The Beautiful Lies unfold in this story many, many times. I Love that C.J. Never gave up fighting!

This is the debut novel from Heather Bentley and I am impressed! She gives us a really well written, emotional and romantic story that captured me and kept me intrigued all the way through.

Christina Harcourt lives a life of wealth and privilege, but it is not as perfect as it appears to be from the outside. Since the death of her beloved mother, Christina’s life has been at the mercy of her cruel father and grandmother. She gets fulfilment by volunteering at a local hospital, and tries to live a happy life, but she knows that the only way she can truly be happy is to escape, leaving everything behind, and that is exactly what she plans to do.

And then along comes CJ. CJ represents everything that Christina’s life is not – fun, carefree and blue collar. Of course it doesn’t hurt that he’s gorgeous, smart, and a genuinely nice guy. Their chemistry sizzles off the page, and though Christina tries to keep him at arm’s length in order to protect him from her family (and to protect her heart), he’s not a man to be deterred, and they soon fall and fall fast for each other.

“There is something here. Something worth taking a chance on. And I want more than anything to give this a try.”

This is SUCH A gorgeous romance! It’s well paced, feels easy and natural, and is beautifully emotional. Christina opens herself up to CJ, telling him her deepest, darkest secrets, and he doesn’t hesitate to share his feelings with her.

“If you’re really serious, please talk to me before you ever think of leaving.”
“Why?”
He leans forward until his forehead reaches mine. “Because I just found you.”

So swoony!

But CJ hides a lot of himself away. And for a woman whose life has been built around lies, will she be able to cope with his secrecy? And what happens when his secrets are finally revealed?

The way this book begins, you know some of how the story is going to play out, but the way it all unfolds is really well done. I love both of the characters, and though they have their moments of stupid - both are guilty of being quick to judge and having OTT reactions - it’s not dragged out, and it works to add some intensity to the story, which I appreciated.

The story builds nicely up to the big climax, with some great twists and some interesting ups and downs for the characters along the way. I did think that the book ended a bit abruptly though - the build-up was there, but the actual ending was a bit subdued and felt a bit rushed. I was happy with how it all ended up, I just wanted something a bit more to truly bring the feels.

But I did really enjoy this one. It was an enjoyable book that sucked me in, and I was feeling along with the characters and rooting for them to find their HEA.

I’ll definitely be looking out for more of this author’s work in the future.

3.5 stars.

I honestly was blown away by this story. Reading the blurb I thought, ‘Yeah, I know how this might go’, but Ms. Bentley threw in quite a few twists and turns, and just when I thought, ‘Wow, this is...’, then BOOM, another twist I didn't see coming!

We start off in present time, but I appreciate how we are taken back to the time that Christina would prefer to forget. Christina had the coveted ‘All-American’ life, yet that was only what people could see on the outside. Behind closed doors, it was a NIGHTMARE!!

Having lost her mother at a young age, she's left with her father and fraternal grandmother. Christina felt suffocated, held down and just miserable, and in part, I believe it's because she had her mother's personality and determination. As I read how she tried to cope with her true home life, my heart truly went out to her.

She just wanted one night to be free of her family's hold, and that night would change everything for her. She meets CJ. Thinking she would only see him that one time, she kinda lets loose, not realizing that CJ would leave a permanent mark in her life.

Yes, there are secrets that both brought out to the open—but what always happens when we decide not to be honest about all out secrets?? Well, once exposed there is always the risk of hurt feelings, and more secrets and lies to cover those. CJ & Sara…well, they both had them and even though one of them wasn't completely honest, I did not see that twist coming!

Truly, Beautiful Lies was an emotionally beautiful love story of second chances and allowing one to be themselves. Like I said, this story caught me off guard but captured my heart completely! ~ Kara, 5 stars

Summary

This is a good story about how family lies and secrets can change a person's life. Some lies are meant to intentionally hurt and some are meant to hide the truth. Either way the lies in this book went both ways. When is it ever okay to tell a beautiful lie?

One of the things I love about reading is discovering new authors. Not just authors I haven’t read before, but also authors who’ve just published their first book. Heather Bentley is such an author. Beautiful Lies is her debut book, and I was pleasantly surprised by the characters and the author’s writing style.
“My life is not my own. A total façade. From what to wear, what to eat, what to dream, every day I’m told what to do, what is acceptable. For all of the indulgence that surrounds me, I feel none of it. I am surrounded by … by stuff. Not by love.”

Christina is a sweet, caring woman born into a life of privilege. But while she has all the luxury money can buy, she doesn’t have what she craves most; a normal family life with loving parents. Christina’s mother died when she was young, leaving her with her cold father and cruel grandmother. The fact that she the heiress of the Harcourt family is something Christina isn’t proud of; she has learned the hard way it brings out the worst in people. When she meets CJ during an evening out with a friend Christina is charmed right away, but she keeps pushing him away, too afraid he will hurt her as well.
“What are you smiling about?” he asks, with a smile to match my own. “I didn’t realize I was smiling.” I catch myself and immediately stop. “Don’t stop on my account. Your smile, it’s … stunning.” I look away. I’m not used to compliments, especially from gorgeous strangers I’m in close proximity to.”

The moment they meet, Christina is very attracted to CJ. When he finds out who she truly is, he doesn’t react the way she thought he would, and CJ and Christina form a friendship, slowly leading to something more. There are a few bumps, but the couple can’t stay away from each other. From the moment CJ gets to know the real Christina, she doesn’t hold back and tells him everything, doesn’t want any secrets between them. CJ on the other hand isn’t so open and tries to keep parts of his life hidden for Christina. And holding back such information for an already damaged Christina is very, very wrong.

As already said, Beautiful Lies is the author’s debut book. I really like the author’s writing style, and the way she lets Christina act; realistic. There is some drama and a bit of angst, but it’s not over-the-top. The pace of the book is a bit fast at times, but it didn’t bother me. Beautiful Lies is written from Christina’s perspective, therefor you don’t get a peek in CJ’s mind. I wish the author had written some chapters in his POV, because some of his actions where absolutely not okay; an insight into his mind would have given me a better understanding for his choices.
“The kiss is warm and deep, a reacquaintance kiss that says so many things. I’m sorry. I missed you. I love you. But more than anything it says that together, we are solid and strong, with a courage and tenacity that is all us.”

I’ve enjoyed reading Beautiful Lies, and I will definitely read future books by this author (maybe a story about Alex and Anna?). I give this story 4 stars.

Right from the start the cover grabbed me. If a cover is not good the odds of me reading the blurb are very slim to none. it's a sad truth. After I fell in love with the cover I read the blurb and I really liked rich girl and blue-collar hard-working guy so I definitely give this book a try. After getting past the first couple chapters I was definitely drawn into the story into the characters and into the plot.

Christina isn't your typical rich girl. You can feel how much she wants to not have that kind of money, if it makes any sense. She wants to be a normal person become a social worker and do what her mom used to do before money changed everything that was my impression of Christina for the most part. At times it was hard to like her but she grew on me as time went on. I was not a super big fan of Becca I can't put my finger on why exactly but I just felt that her and Christina shouldn't have been friends I know that's harsh but it's the truth. Christina had this huge heart and you see it as the chapters go by and I truly loved it. it's what helped me make me really love her.

I really love seeing CJ and Christina's relationship bloom from the start, all the way to the end. It wasn't one of those Insta loves books, it was very Instaattracted instalust but not, they worked very hard to get to this happy ending. I love seeing when characters have to work for love. It wasn't easy by any means I really hate the misunderstanding that happen and how is CJ reacted. It was totally out of line and pissed me off and made me dislike him for a while. But by the end I loved him again.

At times I wish that there had been more dialogue between characters. But as the story progresses and the author became more confident in her writing and there was more.

I really hated Christina's family. With a passion. It felt like she had been adopted because she was so different then the majority of them. Nicole was one of those characters you just wished would jump off a bridge but she wasn't the only one.

At the start of this book you could feel that the author was a little shy and her writing but is the story went on she became a lot more confident and it showed and shined through her story. I felt that being the authors first book she did amazing and I feel that she will be one we need to watch for. She was able to make me cry like a little baby, make me laugh, make me swoon and make me have feelings and that's what makes a great book. The twist oh my goodness blew my mind I won't going to detail but dang!!!! 4.5 stars. Make sure to check out this book! You won't be sorry! #2OCCJD

Being a novel by a debut author, consider me thoroughly impressed! This book had me captivated from the get go, charmed throughout, and charmed me until the end. Heather Bentley may be new, but she writes as if she’s been doing this her entire life.

Christina may be rich, but she hasn’t asked for the life she’s given. Money can’t buy you happiness. Being raised by nearly torturous family members, her father and grandmother, hasn’t been easy and it’s only in her social work that she finds not only solace, but a reason for living; existing. Her big heart goes a long way in her dream of being a social worker like her mom. Her biggest downfall though? She doesn’t trust.

Enter CJ, opposite of Christina, sexy, smart, and everyone’s future book boyfriend. I mean, as soon as I read about him, my heart was beating, my palms got sweaty, and the air was turned down a few notches. I love CJ’s fun and lighthearted ways.

Their chemistry is off the charts, but one they work for. Hot and sizzling but genuine. And I love their openness with one another. The only problem is Christina tends to keep him at arm’s length but its laced with good intentions. All she wants to do is save him from her family. I loved reading about how they deal with things and I swear ovaries will burst when CJ tells Christina, “Because I just found you.”

This book is completely swoon worthy, fun, emotional, and extremely fulfilling and I might have a bit of a girl crush on Heather herself for writing something I couldn’t put down! Pick this up ASAP, especially if you want to read a book that will take you on a grand adventure!

This book! OMG. I read this in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. WOW. I can't believe this is Heather's first book. This is the stuff I expect from an experienced author and she is bringing it on her fist book. I'm putting her on my automatic one click list.

I was approached by Heather to review this and as soon as I read the blurb I accepted it. The book was just as captivating.

"I'm about to lose my mind and pull him to me, but he beats me to it, giving me the kiss I've been waiting for. This kiss. There is no other kiss like it. It lifts me up and warms me from the inside out."

Christina Harcourt is an heirass and trapped in a life she doesn't want. She has everything but is lonely and unhappy. On a night out with her friend she meets CJ, and wow do the sparks fly. From the minute these two meet I start falling in love with CJ. He never failed to show what an amazing man he is. I guarentee you will feel the same. He now owns a piece of my heart.

This book doesn't have the stuff that I consider my "book crack" but that didn't matter. I loved Heather's writing and her story. The story did start off a bit slow but with how fantastic this book was and the fact that this is her FIRST book, I don't even see that mattering. She's going to just keep getting better and I can't wait to follow her career. Grab this one now, I can't recommend it enough.

Courtney/ Christina/ Sara... 3 Names that probably won't ring a bell for most of you and 3 names that don't make a lick of sense at this point.

Well I just found out what, why and how!
And boy am I glad I read this book!

From page 1 I was intrigued, anxious to know more about the girl that would eventually make me laugh and cry and yes mad at times as well.
If you read the blurb, you simply cannot wonder what happened exactly. And what will happen next.

Enter CJ, a strong male that just sizzles of the pages. I never met the guy and I fell in love with him!
Okay, I'll admit I wanted to slap him a few times as well.

They fall in live with each other, heads over heels, but if that would be it, this book wouldn't be as awesome as it is. You keep guessing what has happened? What will happen? And will they both come out of this as a whole.

Heather Bentley was a new author for me, but it's safe to say I will definitely keep a look out for her next books. She knows how to write and she knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat.

You should pick up your copy and read it for yourself. You wont be dissapointed.

I absolutely love when I stumble across a new author that completely blows my mind. Heather Bentley did exactly that with Beautiful Lies. What an emotionally beautiful debut book! Hooked from the very beginning, I had to fight the urge to call in sick so I could stay home and read. I don't cry often while reading a book, but Beautiful Lies broke my heart repeatedly. Excellent story from a new author!

I was deeply touched by the saga about Christine and CJ! A heartfelt and emotional ride! Trust issues are central to the story, as lies play a huge part in the anguish and tragedy to follow!
Heather Bentley has written a powerful opus about the exponential destruction in the wake of dishonesty! An all encompassing evil that permeates our humanity! Catching in it's web the guilty and the innocent!
Thankfully CJ pursuits Christine aka Sara, overcomes her distrust and reclaims the forever love they both desire! HEA!
I look forward to more amazing stories from this author! Beautiful lies is a wonderful book!

I was surprised to read at the end that this was Heather Bentley’s debut book. If this is how Heather starts her journey I will be anxiously awaiting her new books! I devoured this book. When I wasn’t reading it all I could think about was reading it!
Heiress Christina Harcourt's is biding her time in a privileged emotionless life until she can start a life worth living. She devotes her time to a children’s cancer ward hoping to give back the best she can. At times she becomes “Courtney” to go to an out of town bar to let loose. In walks CJ, who she has an immediate connection with. She tries to get him to understand that anything her family touches is ruined, he won’t let that stop him. There are a lot of bumps in the road and half-truths given that cause many tears and may induce some screaming at times. A true sign of a good book!

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
4.5 stars
Sara lives above the diner where she works in a town in the middle of nowhere. It is a peaceful place to live. She knows most everyone and that is good because that means that no one knows who she really is or where she came from. Running from your past is never easy when your family is famous and mega-rich. But getting away from being Christina Harcourt was what she needed to do because her life was a lie. After her mother's death, Christina was told what to do, what to wear, how to act. It was about appearances and never about the love she needed.
One night when Christina and her BFF Becca goes to a country bar, she meets CJ and he is just the guy she needs for one night. He is caring, handsome and oh those eyes. But when CJ wants more, can she tell him who she really is and why they can't be together? Her family will not approve. And she doesn't want either of them to get hurt. But when CJ tracks her down at the hospital, she thinks that maybe they can give it a try.
CJ Whitford is the hardworking man that Christina met at the bar. And CJ has found the one that makes him feel things he has never felt with a woman before. Can she see past her fear about her family and see that they are good together? And what will happen when the biggest lie of all is CJ's?
Sara/Christina is a character that you will feel her pain and CJ is the hero to help her heal. I loved this story and wished there would have been more confrontation with her family. But I do think it ended great.
This story is an emotional roller coaster, so have plenty of Kleenex handy because you will need it. It is a great debut story from this author and I look forward to reading more from her.

Wonderful, angsty read

This book starts off a little slow, but stick with it and you will be sucked into a drama filled story about a woman looking for freedom and the truth. Only one tiny complaint, I do wish Christina/Sara had confronted Becca with a punch to the nose.

Wow!

As a debut, that's one hell of a start! I was almost dared to read this book. A blogger practically dared a bunch of us to read it. I'm a lover of free books and well I took the dare. Wow was that worth it! So now, I'm daring you to read Beautiful Lies and see the beautiful tragedy that happens before your eyes.

Christina's life is not what everyone thinks. All that glitters is not gold. A beautiful house does not make a home. Do you understand what I'm saying? Life's not all it appears.

Some would say poor little rich girl, but I saw everyone has their own personal hell. Christina lives in hers. That house, all the glittery things, all the fancy clothes...none of it leads to a life she wants.

Constantly disappointed by those support support and love her, she forms a secret plan...almost like her own fairytale.

But you don't always get Prince Charming and Happily Ever After is sometimes just words.

Sometimes though, they are so much more. I don't believe in spoilers so I won't give away the ending. Just know that some people get EXACTLY what they deserve!

It's a heart felt story. It had me balling like a baby. I felt too many emotions reading this book. Somethings will effect people gravely while others will feel a tinge. This book was a tear jerker for me due to certain content, but we'll worth the read.

I am impressed with the author. I enjoyed the story. Were some parts predictable yes but it is still a darn good book!

I look forward to reading more from Heather Bentley!

I love books that feel like the character is speaking directly to you, telling you their story. Completely relatable characters, honest, like finding a new group of friends. Well written, you are given a detailed account of Christine, who lives a unfulfilling life of opulence, but no love that caused her nothing but pain, suffering and loss. A chance meeting of a gorgeous stranger causes her to rethink everything.

"I'm about to lose my mind and pull him to me, but he beats me to it, giving me the kiss I've been waiting for. This kiss. There is no other kiss like it. It lifts me up and warms me from the inside out."

Heartwarming and romantic, yet steamy and sexy, you fall in love with the couple and root for their happy ending. Bentley truly captures the nuances of a new relationship, and there was nothing I didn't like about this couple. Smooth prose, engaging story, not one minute was awkward, or not entertaining. It made me laugh, made me empathize with Christina for her losses and lack of love, and enjoy the seemingly perfect boyfriend in CJ.

Misunderstandings occur, and the relationship is tested, and a fast moving set of events brought me to tears, shock, disbelief, and an ending that tied it all together perfectly. I thank the author for providing a copy to review.

I was very surprised to find this author and I enjoyed Beautiful Lies. Heather Bentley is a new author to me, but I can honestly say I am looking forward to reading more of her work.

Christina Harcourt live a very privileged life. But sometimes having anything and everything you could want is not what you always want. She lost her mother very young in life and since then her family has dictated everything about her, from where she goes to what she does with her time. The only true joy she gets is helping sick children at the local hospital. Until she meets C.J.

C.J. Whitford is a hard-working, middle class man or so we think, that has captured the eye of Christina and can’t get her out of his head.
