Mr. Right has never been so freakin’ wrong. I'm a single mom and a cop. When some arrogant superstar thinks he can speed through my town and smirk and charm his way out of a ticket, he’s wrong. I wrote the ticket and impounded his car.
Then he moved in next door.
This muscled up god with his glorious physique, panty-dropping smile and smart mouth is my new neighbor. He hates the ‘burbs, but that doesn’t seem to stop him from flirting with me every chance he gets. As if strutting around in boxers with his abs and chest on display is enough to make me forget his snide comments and wisecracks. Oh sure, he knows how to turn on the charm... like I'll fall for that.
I bet that would make a great story, bagging the cop that gave him the ticket- but I’m not some ditzy arm candy lining up to be the next notch in his bedpost.
I don’t have time to fool around. It doesn’t matter if he’s hot, and younger than I am, and just looking at him makes my legs shake.
The closer we get, the more I think I misjudged him. Somewhere beneath that arrogant smirk is a good man, maybe even the right man, but my past threatens to shatter us both...
BENCHED is a standalone, full-length romance with an HEA. This special edition includes a second full length novel, Player's Princess, with an all new, exclusive epilogue!
I have read Abigail Graham books before and they were ok for me, but I loved this one. I absolutely loved everything about this book. It was humorously charming.
So, he is a big time football player, he gets a ticket for driving 100mph through a school zone in a little town. She is the cop that pulls him over (which I love). Since he has been in trouble before he is sentenced to community service in this little town with the peewee football team. Ends up renting a house right next to her.
Her 6 yr old is a huge fan of his, which is just adorable, posters of him and she plays on the peewee team. He really starts "invading" her space....persistence is key. He is always at her house cooking....which I absolutely loved. He wants her and keeps pursuing her in a gruff charming way, he is going in my BBC (book boyfriend collection).....he had me at the cooking:). He is fiercely protective of her and her daughter and I love it.
This book had it all, funny, charming, alpha male....that cooks, good with kids, safe read, no cheating, no other women or men (not including "stalkers"), hea. This is a must read....loved it.
Okay first off can I please just say the whole time I was reading this I couldn’t help but picture Gronk. This was a perfect love story and it had some mystery in it as well. Didn’t expect the things that happened in it to happen. But overall it was a great romance and a great HEA!
When Phoebe pulled the speeding sports car over, she had no idea who was inside. Giving him a ticket and impounding his car, Alex was stuck in the little town, forced to do community service. Enjoy this story as Phoebe and Alex find themselves spending time together. Can she get past his cocky personality? Will he get over the fact he is in this miserable town because of her? What if spending time is better than they both thought it could be? I enjoyed this story of bad boy football star, strong single mom and chemistry that could not be denied.
I received an ARC for honest review I absolutely loved this book the chemistry between Alex and Phoebe was scorching hot phoebe didn't want to go there at first as she was a cop and her past was catching up with her and Alex took control of everything I was hooked from the start and finished in one read Another great book from a fantastic Author
Great story-line, well-developed characters, a hot bad boy football player, secrets, humor, hot as hell chemistry, love, and a HEA. What's not to like about Benched by Abigail Graham.
I was provided a courtesy ARC for an honest review.
I received this for a honest review. If you have ever read anything of Abigail Graham then you already know you are in for a real treat. This book was truly amazing. Hear you had a man that was trying to find himself. He had wealth, fame, and a job most guys would dream of but yet he was not happy. There was also a woman that had secrets and was a single mom. She was living her life just getting by and not letting a man get to close. The story holds such a great meaning. It shows no matter how much you have or how little you have if you do not allow your heart to love then you can not be truly happy.
I am not much of a sports lover when it comes to books. So I was glad to see the how Abigail wrote the book. It was more focus on the main characters and not the sport.
Officer Phoebe Maguire was this amazing strong woman. She was trying her best to make it in a man’s world. She found that her co-worker did not respect her. Towns men said bad things about her but yet she held her head high. She did not let this tear her down. She went out there and done her job. She did hate that her little girl had to hear the things people were saying. FYI, I just loved Phoebe’s daughter Carrie. She had a strong personality like her mother.
Alex was a linebacker who has found himself in trouble. He was flying in his sports car not taking in consideration the harm that he could of caused. Alex was a lost soul. He was looking for something, he was looking for happiness. He hated being in the limelight. He just wanted to live his life without being recognized and people looking to him as a god.
It is funny how Alex got to meet Office Maguire. There was just something about her that caught his eye. It was like fate was pushing them together. Alex did not know what he was missing until he got a chance to be in Alex and Carries life. He had went through his life thinking he did not like kids. Now here he is having to coach 6 yr olds. You will love Alex interaction with Phoebe’s daughter Carrie. It is priceless and so sweet how that little girl just won her hero’s hearts.
There is a lot that happens in this book. There is new chances, love, danger, and two people learning to live. It was such a great story and so happy I got a chance to read the book.
We meet Alex, who is a super star linebacker! He was caught speeding and sentenced to coach pee wee football! Oh and he says he doesn't like kids! He is not really happy with it but he takes that instead of going to jail! He is also angry at the cop that arrested him because effectively she ended his career! Phoebe is totally angry at Alex for his speeding and his attitude towards it too! She thinks he's an arrogant jerk! She is the only female on the force and she's stuck being a traffic cop! No one seems to take her seriously but she is one tuff mama and woman! I love that she us strong and independent! She has a beautiful little girl called Carrie. Alex can't seem to stop thinking about Phoebe though! And she can't forget him either! He finds a house to rent but not realizing that it's the house next door to Phoebe! They start out with a hate/hate relationship. When they come face to face a few times Alex totally softens and see her in a new light! He takes it upon himself to invade her life and personal space. She slowly drops her guard and the chemistry between these is hot! After a while he realizes he doesn't want to play football anymore. He feels truly happy after caring for Phoebe and little Carrie, who by the way is cute as a button! Phoebe does put up a bit if a fight when Alex takes control but I think she secretly loves it! Alex makes her feel cherished. They both share secrets that no one else knows and that they truly trust each other! But things at one point take a deadly turn and they are fighting for their lives! Man, I enjoyed this book! I loved the banter back and forth! The hot scenes were sizzling! Also every story needs a villain or three [ counting Louis, Alex's agent as a villain] and this has everything in it a you could want it need! Plus the scene at her sister's house was hilarious, couldn't stop giggling! I highly recommend this book. A fun and quick read. You won't want to put it down. I loved both the main characters and the story was well developed and I didn't feel as though I was missing something! Received as an ARC for an honest review!
Once again, author Abigail Graham delivers a first-rate, well-crafted and delightful romance worthy of five stars. The sex scenes are over-the-top hot – smokin’, actually – and envy-worthy (who wouldn’t want her very own Alex?). Some readers may be surprised at the pace Alex’s and Phoebe’s relationship takes off considering how it started, but frankly it’s worth hanging on and enjoying the ride. Phoebe initially took her time and allowed her feelings to simmer, and then poof!, she decided to let the pot boil over. The domesticity slant was really enjoyable – as if Alex needed to become any more heart- and lust-worthy – especially since Graham does such a realistic job of painting Alex’s true colors as he allows himself to feel and grow, even overcoming what seemed to be an initial dislike of kids. The most notable scenes for me included him lying in the hammock and not holding back on expressing his emotions – a guy, expressing his emotions, IN WORDS! – cooking dinner and doing laundry (without being asked) and mowing the lawn the final time and this-is-my-life-and-I-call-it-like-I-see-it approach, not to mention how he takes an initially bad experience and molds it into a dream-come-true fairy tale.
Alex and Phoebe are well-developed and truly likable characters who have more layers than the reader may originally think, and ultimately they’re like any one of us and just need and want to love and be loved. I appreciated how they grew both individually and as a couple – they were real right down to their conversations. The reader will discover a couple of the story’s twists are truly original and surprising - who else was blindsided by Phoebe’s admission about her younger years and the real story about Carrie’s father (I know I sure didn’t guess that one). Graham delivers first-rate bantering dialogue between these two, and a few richly developed scenes with other characters prove just as memorable (just wait until you get to the birthday party!). This is a beautiful love story, and Alex’s relationship with Phoebe’s daughter will make your ovaries dance.
I am providing an honest review based on an Advanced Readers Copy of the book.
On one of Phoebe's daily traffic stops she pulls over a really cocky Alex. He was going 100 mph in a school zone. He of course makes a disparaging comment, which Phoebe is sick of hearing because she is the only woman cop in her small town.
Even with all his money and connections, Alex's agent and attorney cannot get him off with a fine and slap on the wrist. He is given community service coaching a pee wee league and has to wear an ankle bracelet so he doesn't leave town. Phoebe isn't only angry at him for his dumb comment, but because he had no care about speeding thru a school zone. Little does she know Alex will end up right next door to her. He is sick of the hotel he is in and has his people rent a house which happens to be next door to Phoebe and her six year old daughter, Carrie. At least one person is happy about the new neighbor. Carrie is a big fan of Alex. He is a little thrown with the little girls attention because he doesn't like children. (It was never explained why he felt this way)
So this was a quick read and Alex was different than the usual ball jock. He was looking for something different and better. Even though he enjoyed playing, he is tired of the public lifestyle. There is a mention that he dated a lot, he wasn't a monk, but he indicates a lot was more for show and was basically dinner with women, and not what the public believed. He becomes very protective of Phoebe and her daughter and the best thing ever, he loves to cook. He was always taking care of Phoebe and worrying about her resting because she worked too hard.
There is Phoebe who has secrets of her own. She works hard in a mans world but is exceedingly tired of always having to prove herself. Alex is funny and very persuasive and he finally convinces Phoebe to take a chance on him. This book gets HOT fast.
Towards the end a lot happened. Stalkers, ex boyfriend appearance, attempted kidnapping, and agent gone bad, but it all ends well.
Phoebe Maquire was a small town traffic cop who just so happened to stop and ticketed a famous football player Alexander Wright while he was speeding through their little town. He thought she was cute but not his type but there was something about her that attracted him and when the judge told him that his sentence was to work with the peewee football team as community service for the next 6 months and has to wear an ankle monitor while serving his time in town he was livid but he didn't have a choice so he found a house that he liked and after he got the keys he finds out that the cop who is responsible for his community service lives right next door to him they didn't hit hit off to well but he realized that he really liked her but he still hated kids he thought but things change and when Phoebe came home one day and found that her yard was filled with reporters and she could not get to her porch as they mobbed her she heard this loud voice it was Alex and he made everyone move away and followed her right into her house where he fixed her and Carrie her daughter dinner even though she resented him for forcing his way into their lives but she wouldn't give him the upper hand though she realized that she was totally attracted to this man but would not give in to him because she didn't want anyone to know her secret and she wanted to be respected and treated fairly by everyone in the town including Mr. Famous Alexander Wright. Alex realized that when he was with Phoebe something inside of him changed and softened and he wanted that feeling to last with her but it was not going to be as easy as either one of them might have thought. This is a really a wonderfully written story of the love and life that Alex was willing to fight for so that he could be with Phoebe and Carrie. I provided an honest review.
I received a complimentary copy from the author...
I need an Alex of my own!!
This book was so good. It had cute moments, scary moments, loving moments and downright naughty moments. Nothing felt rushed even though the book moved fast paced and I just loved the character interactions. Alex was such a cocky football player in the beginning and Phoebe was trying to be tough as well as hard just to gain the respect of her fellow cops. This book was different for me in a great way because Alex changed his life to fit his new family instead of the usual woman changing for the man.
Sarah had to be the most odd character of them all and I'm not quite sure what happened to her, but she did do something good in the end to somewhat redeem herself.
Loved this book. Can't wait for Abigail's next book!

Phoebe is a single mom, a cop, and running with her daughter from an ex, three strikes against her already. So when Mr. Hot shot football star moves in next door to stay in town all of those work against her. She wasn't looking for a relationship or Mr. Right, you could stay he just speed on into town.
Alex loved to drive, it cleared his head from life and made it to where he didn't have to think. So after caught doing 100 mph in a 30 mph zone he finds himself in a rental living next to the single cop and coaching pee wee football. He wasn't looking for anything but he couldn't help the feelings that was developing between the 2!
Great read! This book includes a bonus book but I just couldn't get into it.
This review is from: BENCHED (Kindle Edition) Loved this book, great short story. Alex will melt your heart, he comes to town with a cocky attitude, and falls for cop Phoebe, she changes the way he thinks about everything, and he finds himself caring for her daughter Carrie. Phoebe is just trying to raise her daughter the best she can, that is until a storm name Alex rolls into town, and turns both their worlds upside down.
This is the first book that I read by author Abigail Graham. The first story, Benched, I felt was good, but for me it wasn't amazing. I am not sure if it was the writing style, which felt a bit juvenile to me, or whether my qualms are with the characters themselves, though I think it might be the latter. Benched begins with Phoebe, the lone female police officer in her small town, who pulls over and arrests a famous football star, Alex, for speeding in a school zone in his flashy car. All of which is believable but after that is where it started to go off the rails a bit for me. While I get that he was speeding at a very high rate of speed, there was an almost immediate severe hatred for he driver on the part of Phoebe. I think that was a bit overdone. Then there was the ridiculous punishment handed down by the judge in the case. That made it completely unbelievable and where the author started to lose me. So many things happened between the judge and Phoebe's own actions that it was just too unbelievable and just wouldn't happen in law enforcement. Then the Alex moves in nextdoor to Phoebe and things begin to move very fast. While I am able to enjoy short romance books, this one was in warp speed and there were too many things that happened in the timeline of things that were just unrealistic. While I liked Alex's character and could actually see his character as being a believable character, I just didn't like Phoebes character. She was just hard to like. Plus her character, as a police officer, was just hard to believe. Plus her personality was not enjoyable. If you could get past that then the sex scenes were actually pretty good. It was just an okay short read.
I liked the characters in the bonus book Player's Princess a bit more but the writing style was still a bit juvenile and it wasn't as well written as Bench, if that is saying anything. Plus the main characters, Jason (the star quarterback) and Anastasia "Anna" (the Princess of Jyvaslka), seemed younger than what they were supposed to be, more like highschoolers than fourth year college students. The plot was a bit crazy and some of their actions were a just ridiculous and unbelievable. It was a cute story though because of the personalities of the some of the characters, especially the supporting characters like the Thunder Brothers Akele and Aheahe. They made it a fun read. The sex scenes where hot, though with the whole risk of getting caught aspect. The story definitely needed some more editing and more substance. There were quite a bit of spelling and grammar issues in this bonus story though, which made it a bit distracting.
I hate giving a poor review, especially since both stories have such promises, but both stories need some refinement and to be more realistic and enjoyable. I will give the author another try though and see if her other books are any better.
Alex is speeding through town and Phoebe pulls him over and gives him a ticket. He is forced to stay in town for a year and coach the local peewee football team. She is pissed at the comments he said to her when she pulled him over. Next thing she finds out he is her next door neighbor. From there it just went all over the place. She can't stand him and yet he is at her house everyday fixing her and her daughter breakfast or dinner. Then he is baby sitting her daughter, which leads to them going on a date. One date and they are intimate and he has pretty much moved in. There was a bit of drama with a stalker of Alex's and of course when you find out Phoebe lied about her "husband" you just knew he was going to show up some way and cause problems. The one thing I was disappointed in was when it came to what was going on with Alex, with his lawyer, you saw his anger but I would have liked to see how he dealt with each situation. It kind of left you hanging on what he did. I skimmed through most of the sex scenes they were boring.
I really enjoyed this story. Though it did have its pros and cons. Let's do cons first. Something's didn't add up. The book description states Phoebe is older then Alex and it also says in the story she is pushing 30. Firstly Alex is 28 but she has her baby at 18/19 and the kid is only 6. Doesn't add up. Also she says she didn't know she was pregnant before she wasn't able to talk to her mom before the coma but before that it said while Phoebe was sick her mother was watching her 18month old baby. Once again it doesn't add up. I also could have done without the last chapter. Got a little Dom and submissive for me and I wasn't into the anal play in the closing chapter and there was lots of unemotional sex. Fast. Hard and doggie style. No loving. I would have loved an epilogue! That being said. I liked the story as a whole. Good characters. Nice plot. Some action towards the end. Feisty female. Alpha male. Cute kid. Just a good story overall. It had a few flaws but otherwise I really enjoyed and would definitely recommend.
3.5 Stars I like this story but it had a little too much drama for my personal taste. I read romance to relax, if I want drama I watch the evening news The book is well written and if you like to experience a full range of emotions while reading this book is for you. I received a ARC copy from the author for my honest review
Good story. Loved the little girl and how he fell in love with both the mom and the daughter. Got to love a man that can cook, take care of you and still let you be you. I didn't read all the bonus stuff that is at the end.
Benched is a standalone book by Abigail Graham. The storyline was solid and well thought out. I absolutely love a sports romance book and this one hit the spot. The characters were well developed and had smokin hot chemistry. All in all a fabulous book that I would recommend!!
